I have frequented this establishment a number of times with very little problems. Recently I went to the bar and gave two pieces of I.D. (completley real) - my drivers licence and my care card. The bouncer who was at the door took my drivers licence, grabbed his key and scratched out the year on it. He then peeled my Care Card and handed both pieces of id back to me saying that they had been tampered with. Obviously everyone has dealt with overzealous bouncers, but destruction of personal property is taking it a few steps too far. Any suggestions on how to deal with this situation?

If you get the name of the person that defaced your license, file a small claims court case against him. You may get contacted by some of the TV Judge shows, and if you do, respond to the show. They will pay your travel and hotel, and will collect for you. Most states, will not enforce collection if you can't find the person you sued, and if they are sneaky enough to leave the state, they may be hard to find.
You can sue for damages (replacement costs, plus lost time from work) and you can sue for intentionally damaging your property. Do not try to sue for lost time for going to court, or for filing. You will get filing costs also. good luck.

I was assuming you were in the U.S.. Unfortunately, I do not know the procedure for Canada, but would definitely approach the establishments owners or managers, and take witnesses if you have them and see what they will do. Again, good luck
