Roadway Inn, South Bend, IN room today / disgusting room conditions

Today I checked into your Roadway Inn at 52624 Indiana St, South Bend, IN. It was the main st disgusting place Ihave ever been at. These are the conditions I encountered. First, the room key I was given didn't work. I looked inside and it looked like someone was staying in that room. I went back to the front desk and was assigned a different room. The key card worked but the door seemed jammed. I had to force the door to open. When the door was first opened it appeared the lock was lose and was causing the door to jam.. The smell in the room was terrible. My wife then tried to turn on the air conditioner. The grid was broken. The knobs were missing so there was no way to turn it on. The room was very warm when we got there. The trim around the built in desk was missing exposing raw wood. The carpet was filthy. The front window in the room next to ours was broken and the glass looked dangerous and the opening should ha e been covered up. My wife and I said there was no way we could stay there and within 10 minutes of checking we went back to the front desk and told the desk clerk what we found and said we would not stay there and I turned in our room key. I said I didn't know if he could refund our $55.00 or not and he said he could give us a different room. I told him no way and left. After leaving I called the company we booked the room from and I explained the room conditions. He said he would call the Roadway Inn and see about getting me a refund while I was still on the telephone with him. After a few minutes he came back online and said he call Roadway Inn and talked to a clerk with a name that sounded like Gigar. He was told by Gigar that I didn't want a refund which is not true. The man with the reservation company was extremely helpful and told me that the Roadway Inn was a Choice Hotels property and that I should contact you with my complaint.
