Riviera Fitness Center / Fine print in contract
My mom is 80 years old. She went to Riviera Fitness Center and was told that she could pay on a month to month basis and not have to cancel if she wanted to discontinue membership. She was then presented with a contract in small print, which she signed without reading, because she could not read the fine print. Unfortunately, she believed they would honor their verbal agreement. Now she is being billed electronically each month. When my father, who is legally blind, finally discovered what the contract said, he was surprised to find out she had signed a 2 year contract. Since then, he has called and left a message for the manager, which was not returned. He also went over to the gymn and asked to speak to the manager. He was told that the manager would be coming in between 9 and 10 AM. He decided to wait, but then heard the person who worked at the front desk calling the manager to warn him not to come in. It will be very easy for these people to take advantage of my parents. I have read many complaints about Riviera and their contracted billing company Paramount. Before anyone decides to join a gym, you need to do a thorough search for complaints. Try the [redacted].com website for a start.
