In March, 2009, my third generation iPod that I've owned for about five years quit working. I sent it in to RH iPod Repair for a free diagnostic test. A week later, I was contacted via email by "Jason", asking me to call them in regards to the results of the testing. Apparently the logic board and battery were both faulty. Not surprising, given the age and daily use of my iPod. I authorized repairs, and was told that they were "a little backed up", and that my iPod would be returned to me in about a week.
When I still hadn't received my iPod a month later, I attempted to contact "Jason" via email. No response. Several days later, I sent the same email to every email address that was listed on RHouseMedia.com's website. I finally got a response from "Nathanial", who apologized for the delay, and told me that they were waiting on parts for my older iPod. He said that they were expecting a shipment of parts in about a week, and asked if I'd like to wait even longer, or if I'd like them to ship it back. I told him that I'd like it shipped back. He responded that they charge $15 for return shipping, and asked if I'd like that charged to my credit card. I thought this was a bit much, but what could I do? I wanted my iPod back, so I agreed. Another week went by, and STILL no iPod. I had to contact "Nathanial" AGAIN to get him to ship my iPod back to me. He responded, apologized, and told me that my iPod would be shipped back that day, which was May 14, 2009, and that I should have it back within one to two days.
I got my iPod back today, finally. Of course, the price that they charged for shipping FAR exceeded what the actual postage was. Actual postage from Laguna Beach, CA to Culver City, CA was all of $1.73. This is quite possibly the WORST customer service I've ever experienced, not counting dealing with bureaucrats.
For the record, had they simply told me that the parts weren't in stock when I called them, I wouldn't have had a problem with waiting. It's the fact that I was told that I would only be waiting about another week that is inexcusable, as is the fact that they didn't ship my un-repaired iPod back to me until after I contacted them a second time in regards to shipping it back to me.
I did, however, have a very good experience with Blake at ifixipodsfast.com. He had the parts I needed in stock, and shipped them to me within two business days. Now THAT'S customer service!!
