Rheem unethical behavior and poor customer service

On 2-6-18 I called the Rheem warranty line to follow up on a heating element that I was supposed to receive 1-2 days prior. After the first representative took my serial and model numbers I was transferred to another customer service representative named " Saro". He came on the line and said " you have been transferred to me. Please hold." He put me on hold and when he came back he asked me why I was calling. I mentioned that I ordered a heating element for my Rheem water heater as it was covered under warranty and on 2-2-18 and that representative stated that I would receive it in 1-2 days. It has been 3 days and I was calling to let them know that I hadn't received it and the water is coming out luke warm then cold. I asked that they send me one overnight as I needed it right away. He yawned loud and quite long then paused then sighed loudly. I asked him if I was keeping him up. He said "life is keeping me up!" He then told me that on the FED/Ex website it shows that the package should be delivered at 10:30 this morning and if it doesn't arrive then I should call back and they will send one out overnight.

He was extremely rude and I hope that Rheem will address this very poor customer service representative as their own staff is hurting their industry.

I also hope that the part that I need comes today. It should have been sent out overnight to begin with. Not having hot water is unsanitary.

Rheem therm air conditioner

Now this is the second time in a four year period the coil unit is being replaced and you will not pay for labor to replace it? That is totally unacceptable! Stand behind your product! Last year it was the compressor on the same unit and it wasn't under warranty because the sorry company that put it in didn't register it! Please pay the labor charge on the coil so I can give you a good report!

Rheem rheem tankless water softener

Tankless water softener installed in March 2012. Gas control valve went out. Called Rheem and was told the warranty expired 4 months ago. David in the escalated tech dept was extremely rude and admitted they rarely go out but they are not at all flexible with warranty issues. Our plumber told us the gas control valve should not fail after five years. Will never buy a Rheem product again..

Rheem Heat Pump Mod# 13PA42AO1757

Unit installed as new unit June 2014. First repair in Aug 2014 to replace Freon from unknown leak. Next repair for a defective fill valve on 9/8/2015 finally another repair this year on 1/6/16 and 1/18/2016 to repair a defective service valve.. The actual body of the valve had cracked. While the labor was covered or reduced the cost of Freon replacement has almost equaled half of the units purchase price. Contacted Rheem via web site but as expected no reply to date.

Rheem Defective product

Just bought a Marathon Water Heater (GE product) and found out it was defective after having it professionally installed. Had to have it uninstalled and reinstalled after the drain valve was replaced and could not wait for Rheem to figure things out about what was needed. My basement was flooding! I am out several hundred dollars in repair costs as a result. Returning it was not an option because it would have cost me more money to do that! Rheem warranty team says they will only pay for the part. What a crock. Considering filing a small claims lawsuit about GE in Wisconsin. Wonder if that would get their attention.

Rheem Central a / c unit - faulty, cracked

I purchased a Rheem Classic Central A/C unit at the very end of 2006. In 2009 the exterior fan motor broke and had to be replaced. in 2011 a capacitor/condenser broke and had to be replaced. a week ago the water pan under the coils cracked and the unit is leaking water. Water pan and coils are one piece, so the whole thing has to be replaced. Quote - Cost of this last repair $600.00
I tried calling Rheem to complain about this and the sales rep pretty much told me that this was my fault for having a 7 years old unit. It didn't matter what I tried to explain to her, her words were blaming me and blaming the weather. I tried to ask for a supervisor, manager, anybody else who could help, she said the complaint stopped at her desk and nobody else could help.
I don't know what else I can do other than complain at all the rheem complain forums, BBB, etc, etc. But this is really bad becuse if their units are faulty they need to replace them at no cost.
In total I will have paid close to $1, 500 in repairs since I purchased this unit, so the real cost of the whole thing is close to $4, 000 for a 2 ton. INSANE.
They don't listen, they are blaming the customer.

I built a new house, and a Rheem heat pump was installed. In the first two years the system failed nine times. They finally installed a new unit that has failed 7 times in the last two years. Avoid this company at all costs. They build poorly designed products, and their company rep's are only familiar with the "current band aid to solve a problem. AVIOD RHEEM!

Our unit is less than 2 years old and I've already spent hundreds repairing it. Sure, parts are under warranty, but the labor isn't. The cheap capacitor they use is only warrantied for 1 year, imagine that. The labor charge to replace the fan motor is $300. If you have a choice, pick anyone but Rheem. I've had Carrier units that are 10 years old that never have had a problem. Trust me, don't buy Rheem.

The unit was chosen by the builder, so unfortunately consumers don't often have a choice with the A/C brands that are chosen.

I would not recommend Rheem. My heat pump went out on Saturday and now it is Friday and I have been trying to get someone to service it. I have talked with Rheem customer service which is a joke. I have talked with field reps and they assure me someone will be here today. I am thinking about talking with an attorney to get my money back and purchase something I get serviced. This is a total joke. Brand new unit and cannot get service.

Rheem High electric bills

I had new air conditioner installed in 2009. Since then a new unit was installed 7 times. Rheem Air Conditioning sent a rep to look at unit and all we got was wrong from duct work to unit installed by electric company. What was not taken into consideration was the high electric bills we had during this time.

Rheem They repaired my system 10 times and without any result.

I have bought air conditioning system from them. After two months it started to sound strange and the speed became lower... I called to them as i had a guarantee. They sent me a master and he repaired the system. It happened in the same way some 10 times and now I am so angry that I want to kill them!

Rheem Rheem Tankless is Junk

Had a Rheem GT-199DVN-2 tankless installed in a new home construction. After 20 months the circuit board went out. Rheem admits to bad boards from their supplier. This was an $1800 water heater with installation. Parts are warrantied for three years but labor to install parts is on the consumer after one year. This work is $100 an hour. The repair did not last two hours after the technician left. Over the next 30 days we had to pay for installation of 2 boards, a gas valve, and the controller, all while having no hot water. We were eventually reimbursed for all but $200 of the repair costs. The repairs lasted until November (3 1/2 months) and it started to fail again. I finally yanked the piece of junk off the wall and installed a tank type heater. I wrote a letter to the CEO of Rheem and quoted him their own quality policy. I've had no reply. If you are thinking of buying a Rheem water heater, save yourself a lot of grief. Rheem uses cheap foreign parts and does not stand behind their products.

Rheem Hot water tank ignition

Rheem Technical Service told us we needed new thermostat (still under warranty), and that parts would be shipped overnight even though Memorial Day weekend; and we were told we could install it easily ourselves, and that technicians were available by phone to guide us through the installation. Not the case.

We received the parts 7 days later despite numerous calls and promises.

We could not install it easily ourselves--in fact written material cautioned NOT to attempt replacement--needed a qualified service specialist. Even our experienced plumber refused to tackle the replacement! Oh yes, there was no technician available by phone on weekends or nights.

When I asked Rheem technician how I could possibly replace the device myself when a certified plumber refused the job and asked the tech to 'walk me through' the repair--he hung up on me. (Yes I was terse and sarcastic in tone, but I was polite and not belligerent!)

We were told by Rheem that the labor cost would be between $60-$100 and was not covered under warranty; however only service specialist in Capital District, New York said cost is $175.

I hope the repair goes smoothly this morning. I'll let you know if it doesn't.

Rheem airconditioner

We installed a rheem central airconditioning unit for 6500 dollars. A coil is leaking and the company has dragged its foot since may. The airconditionerinstaller has to come by every few days to add refrigeration so we have cool air.Company says the new coil will be delivered but for now they can't stop the assembly line to get a new coil for this particular unit. Bad strategy we will never recommend a Rheem. Marinus Plooy

Rheem leaking

I have a similar problem (as Collin) with my Rheem Model 21VR75N 75 gallon Water Heater. In my case the water heater (WH) leaked towards the back of the unit so I didn't see that the leak soaked into the house/garage. I bought my house new and the builder put the water heater on a wood/sheetrock platform. I'm 8 months out of warranty but it appears the unit was leaking for quite a while. I appear to have corrosian at the top causing leaking. I replaced the nipples connecting to the WH but the leak continues. I built a house and have done a lot of plumbing so when I say I properly prepared the threads before screwing the new nipples in, I really did it correctly. I almost think something else is leaking.

Beacause I reported after the warranty expired, Rheem will not cover. They had their insurance company contact me becasue the water damage has caused the platform to deteriorate, the WH now leans against the wall, and this new contact allowed more water to soak into a new section of the wall/house/garage. I won't be making a caim though becuase the Rheem insurance company insists I have to pay (about $1, 000) a Forensic Engineer to prove there is a defect. I'm calling a lawyer first, but it will cost about $1, 000 to repair the damage so why should I pay $1, 000 for an engineer, then fight with the insurance Co just to get the repair money?

Sorry to be politically incorrect here, but Big Business can do this to the little guy because (in general) the Republicans have spent the past 8 years passing law to protect business at the expense of the consumer. It's time to change that!

my rheem water heater is 13 years old and is also leaking at the bottom. and it is showing crosion around the top edges and around the pipes. my water heater is located on my first floor, living area and i throught that i would'nt have a problem with crosion because it wasn't located in the basement, was i wrong. i feel that the rheem company is making an inferior product that shouldn't be aloud to continue. i've seen many water heaters 20-30 years old that never had this problem. companys need to be held responsible when they choose to make and sell inferior products.

Rheem pilot light continues to go out

The pilot on my eight yr old Rheem water heater continues to go out. I have notified my home protection plan several times and thus had several different plumbing companies check it out...to no avail. The thurmal couple has been replaced twice, the pilot orfice 'cleaned out' twice, and at other times it's just been lit and off they go...I've never been advised to replace the hot water heater.
It's been suggested that I don't have enough ventilation in the attic by some plumbers...others say there IS enough ventilation and that it's just too hot.
NOW, it's been suggested that I leave the attic door open (down) for ventilation...and I'm complying.
I'm afraid that the stinkin' thing might blow up! What do I do?
It's not right to have to do this make-shift requirement. If the pilot light's not working...what else is not working?!
Help...please!

Rheem Disreputable practices, worthless warranty

A thoroughly disreputable company. Warranty is worthless. If your Rheem water heater has a 6 year warranty and fails after 3.5 years (as ours did), you may find them using all kinds of questionable tactics to escape responsibility.

On three separate calls to three agents they insisted our heater was 7 years old. They had clearly been trained to say this, the patter was so automatic. When challenged with their own web-site’s data, which stated (correctly) that the heater was still under warranty, they did not know what to say and hung up! The house had been built only 3.5 years earlier! And indeed, the heater’s body was date-stamped 3.5 years ago. What was going on here? Either Rheem was lying, or the plumber or the plumber’s merchant had supplied old product, falsely relabelled. Of course the plumber and his merchant denied that. Finally after a lot of photos, heated phone calls, and intervention by the plumber’s merchant in escalating to Rheem management, we discovered the procedure for making a claim.

Rheem’s claims are handled by a third party agency, ESIS Risk Management. We supplied photos of the leaking rusty tank and the flooding in the cellar and adjacent room that it had caused. ESIS are apparently tarred with the same dirty brush as Rheem. Despite the overwhelming evidence, ESIS' Susan Fritts insisted there was no proof of defect and that a report was required from a ‘forensic plumber.’ Oh yeah, like we had sabotaged our own heater and voluntarily lived without hot water for two weeks? The forensic exam could cost $1000 and would not be reimbursed even if Rheem were found to be at fault! Outrageous! That’s more than the cost of a new heater! ESIS and Rheem had created an impossible obstacle.

So we were stuck with buying a new heater. Now these things are built like tanks (ha!). They should not fail after 3. 5 years, sitting untouched in a basement. It makes you wonder if Rheem is supplying old refurbs that are falsely relabelled with a new manufacturing date. And then wriggling like crazy to escape any liability. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

I purchased this 5 ton rheem a/c unit in December of 2015. I called the company ( Florida Solar and Air)that I purchase the unit from and they also did the installment and I was told that the damage wasn't covered under the warranty because it was a break instead of a crack. I emailed pictures so that you can see that this factory damage. my a/c unit has been out for two weeks and I have to wait an addition week to have repairs done to the unit. this water pan is faulty and should be covered under the warranty which was given in good faith. I shouldn't have to pay 600.00 for repairs when it is covered. I will be writing a review on Florida Solar and Air on the lack of service that was given in making the repairs in the proper time period.

Rheem Terrible experience!

The new home I purchased was configured with a 75 gallon Rheem Water Heater. Model 21VR75N, Serial# RHLN [protected]. The first incident we experienced involved a significant amount of corrosion on top of the unit where the nipples are attached for the inlet and outlet water. Rheem, when contacted for warranty service, denied it was their problem. They deferred the issue to inproper installation. Galvanic corrosion was resident to the top element of the water heater, not the nipple couplers. They denied the claim and sidestepped the opportunity to help.

A second occurrence with this same unit just happened with a complete failure of the unit due to corrosion through the underneath side of the tank near the apex of the bottom portion where the flame heats the unit. I contacted Rheem, and they were not interested in helping.

The water heater is now 6 years and 1 week old. The water heater warranty lasts for 6 years. Given they knew of the corrosion occurring with this unit, they offered no help at all. The unit appears brand new upon initial inspection. It has been destroying itself, from the inside out, due to galvanic corrosion and materials that do not stand up to the process of reduction(Corrosion).

Rheem makes the water heaters that Home Depot sells. Those units they sell are considered problematic by most if not all plumbers that must replace water heaters for customers. Beware to the DIY! You will have similar issues with corrosion.

I am an installer of rheem tank water heaters
in the last ten daysI've experienced 4 anode rods leaking due to poor installation at the factory 2 were one install apart in other words 2 in the same day a fifty and a forty, wow what are you doing rheem ?
obviously lacking in performance .
I guess it's an attitude that you people seem to enjoy
and oh yeah why don't you make a thermocoulpe that at least lasts as long as the heater .
and oh one more thing why don't they install a flame lighter that works the first time you push it instead of trying many times first with no avail ?
I am not that impressed with your heaters surely you can do better .
Not to mention the nipples and P and temp. valve leaking okay ?

Rheem Bad hot water heater

We purchased a GE labeled hot water heater from HomeDepot.

Over a 30 day period, we had 10 days of hot water. GE sent a plumber out 3xs to replace parts several times.

GE told me it was electrical. I hired an electrician who spoke with GE and said it was a bad hot water heater and the electric was working fine.

HomeDepot said to return the hot water heater within 30 days for a refund.

My husband and I bought a Kenmore and had it installed, which has been working flawlessly. We brought back the GE hot water heater to HomeDepot and got a refund.

GE and Rheem refuse to reimburse me for the electrician or the installation. They still will not admit that it was a bad hot water heater.
