Rent-A-Center horrible buisness

I have delt with rent a center for the past few years, the first time I went their I rent to own a 32 inch toshiba flat screen. I had it to for two years it was a good tv and I always paid, yes their were times I was late but, I always paid. I understand that if you are late, they have every right contact you but, the way the contacted me was beyound unprofessional.

I was called about 10 times a day, my references were called up to 10 times a day, my work was called up to 10 times a day, they even showed up at my work. After that happened, I told them they were not allowed at my work. I always contacted back and told them when I would be and they never listened. Okay well let me finish with this I was close to paying it off the lady said I owed on 160 left. I was super stoaked I paid 70 one week and then two weeks later I tried to go in on monday and pay the rest they told me that they could not except the payment and took the tv from me. They added I am not lying about this 300 dollars to the end. I was sp pissed off, they even refused me to as a return customer. Then months went by and I wanted a upgrade I got a coupon in the mail so I go in and they even let me credit all that money to upgrade on the tv I was like I will give them another chance. Oh was i even more wrong then ever this time. I started being on time for quite a while then slipped again, I know it was my fault but I contacted them everytime I was going to except a payment.

Well I come home to sorry we missed you all over my door. I contacted them asking what this was about, let me tell you. They know my work schedule and I let them know when I was home or not but, they stilll came to my door when they knew clearly know was home. My neighbors said that they bangedd and even tried kicking in my door a few times. They said my dogs went nuts and the men were screaming it rent a center. They kept up with two weeks with this. I gave them their merchandise I know once shame on you twice shame on me. I tell you SHAME ON ME. I know I had money stolen from me because they are rip offs. I will never do buisness with this company again. THey are so unprofessional, they lie, they say way to much in apporiate things, then when I report it to the manager, then they deny it. I have read nothing but reports the same as mine. It is a sad deal, I cant believe any company would even imagine running a business like this.

Rent-A-Center not refunding my security deposit

I rented a dryer for 2 months and paid a $200 security deposit. When I returned the dryer (About 2 months ago) they could not refund the money as the credit card with which I paid was lost. I am calling them several times each day but nothing doing! They claim that they're working on it but I don't see any progress at all! I'm very disappointed at their service so i'm involving consumer affairs. Hopefully they'll help me get my money back! Anyone out there interested in renting from them - be very careful their service stinks!

Rent-A-Center illegal collection practices

this location has now for about five years has been breaking all the collection rules and regulations. it seems that when customers go seven days late they are threatened with arrest and the "booty house. it would not be so bad but it seems that the dm is also ok with this. because as long as the numbers are met he does not care what is said or done. on top of all this it seems that company guide lines of not being able to file on any one unless they meet certain guide lines. previous managers at this location have filed or allowed to be filed on customers that had paid in hundreds of dollars. all it would take is a call to the da office and then a call to rent a center home office in plano texas to verify that they have not given permission for these " illegal action" of company and federal collection policies.

Rent-A-Center their furniture is falling apart

Years ago I moved into a new home. I was looking for nice furniture that I could afford while making house payments. I looked in many furniture stores for something unique and different. I did not have much luck since I was looking for something that would be durable but with darker colors. One day I was going to a dry cleaner and next store was a Rent A Center. I decided to just take a stroll and see what they had. Since I have never rented to own furniture I was a little skeptical. After going in I was surprised to find something I really liked. I found a black sofa, chair and love seat that had such a pretty pattern. It was like sprays of paint in multi colors. The set also had these really cool glass tables with stone bases. I also loved the lamps that where black poles that went up and over the sofa with 5 globe bulbs that fanned out over the furniture. This set was very different and was really neat. I talked it over with my boyfriend because I was not real keen on the idea of paying interest to rent to own. We both decided to do the transaction because I really wanted the set. Well let me say that I was happy at first until the sofa that I was paying so much for was starting to sag. I had the set for less than 1 year and the cushions where so messed up it was like sitting on a marshmallow. I had to keep turning them over to try and make the sagging not appear so much. I also was sorry I bought the tables because they never stayed clean. I had to dust them everyday. I did like them but they where a pain. I called the store and told them about the furniture falling apart. They did nothing and I was bound to a contract. Either make the payments or the furniture gets taken. Since I was so upset I went to the store to talk to manager there and advised him of what was going on. He never did anything to fix replace or repair the flabby furniture. I wound up paying it off. and then giving it away. I will never buy anything from these scam artist again. In the end I wound up paying almost double for furniture only because I liked the look. Well looks can be very deceiving. Remember this my friends. The sweetest candy can be rotten on the inside. These types of company's prey on people who can't afford to buy lavish furniture promising to back there products. What a big joke. I like the design of the furniture but if I knew it was put together with elmer's glue and cotton balls, I would have made it myself. I would have been better of with bean bag chairs at least they are meant to sag. I hope this helps anyone who may consider using fraud furniture stores. Do yourself a favor sit on the floor.

the renter center misleading that i and my son in-come met two times the rent then we are fine. but after they find out my son is on SSI disability in-come. they change thier mind not to rent to a person who is metality is slow. but they check my credit even they knew my in-come alone is not made up for the rent . just to get me drop a few point on my credit report and get 15 dollars out of my credit check. i was charged $40. dollar for credit check.
They are mean to the people who are born with disability. They get a way with the law because they did not tell me, they only consider of my in-come but not my son.
stay away from the renter center. They have no heart. but they will answer to God for the didable people that way.

Rent-A-Center worst place ever!!!

I am completely unsatisfied with how Rent-A-Center works with customers. I purchased an acer laptop about 2 months ago, and have been making bi-weekly payments on it. I just lost my job (due to the economy) and notified Rent-A-Center of what had happened. Next thing I know, they are sending their workers to my doorstep to collect the computer or the money----along with the next 2 weeks payment. On top of that, they called EVERY SINGLE ONE of my references and emergency contacts. that's 8 people! How embarrassing! So now, my whole family and close friends knows what's going on cause Rent-A-Center call them at least twice a day! UGH! I am so irritated and sick of this place...I am returning my laptop and will never talk highly of rent-a-center!

Rent-A-Center ethics

I took out rent-to-own contracts on an air conditioner and a washer/dryer set. A month or so later, I took out another one on an Acer Tablet. Made every payment on time and pleased with the items. Problem was, you have to police them. I had only one item that was low enough in price that I had any shot at paying off at the 90 day mark--that was the air conditioner. One problem from the start was not having any access to my account online. I got in once and never again. So I can't make my payments online or check my account status. So every week, on time, I called in my payments. Well the 90 day mark came and went. Nobody said a word. I was told it was my responsibility to know the day that I can pay off early. Fine, but that's a real 'let the buyer beware' way of doing things, isn't it? Doesn't that kind of tell your customer that you're going to sneak everything you can past them? If I'm not monitoring it, you'll keep quiet so that I get to pay 3 times the item's market value, right? Not smart.
1 - Can't return the air conditioner--it's hard-mounted into the wall and I am unable to remove it. So instead, I return both the Acer Tablet and the washer/dryer set. You had a customer with NO missed payments and NO late payments who was paying you $332 a month, and you lost that. Intelligent? No.
2 - I still need a sofa, a bedroom suite, and another laptop. Where was I going to go for those items? Rent-a-center. So you lost current business and you lost future business. Intelligent? No.

So after all the money I've paid into the Table and the washer/dryer set are applied to the one item I have left, even if you play around with the numbers as much as you can, you'll be lucky to get another $100 out of me. I estimate that I'll still come out of it with a store credit and owning the AC I should have owned at the 90-day mark. Intelligent? No. You shoved good money out the door. Why do that?

More than half of all Americans have bad credit. And smart companies realize that those people still work jobs and still have money. People with good credit do NOT patronize companies who rent furniture like this--they have good credit. They don't go to rental companies in order to pay 3 times an item's value. So why bash and mistreat and scam people with bad credit when those people are your entire customer base? And why do that in an area where you are competing with Aaron's (whom I've bought a Dell laptop from in 2003) and Easy Home?

So you can say yeah, it was my responsibility to keep track of the 90-day mark. Doesn't really change things though, does it? Didn't you still lose a good paying customer? I call the store and I'm told "Why? You only had another 13 payments to make on the air conditioner." Well, no, actually I was supposed to be owning it by now and able to order up another item--the sofa, laptop, or bedroom. Do you want to take something in your own home that you already own and then make another 13 payments on it? Of course not. 'Bad credit' does NOT equal 'stupid.' You took good money out of your register and gave it to another store. Intelligent? Nooooooooo.

Rent-A-Center infested couches

I had gotten a living room set from Rent-A-Center when I moved into my first apartment (07/08/2010). I loved the living room set that I had got, and the price was a decent amount to pay bi-weekly. Due to unseen circumstances I moved out of the apartment I was renting and moved into my dad's house (10/15/2010). Just before my sister was due to give birth (07/04/2011) I traded the original living room set for a different bigger set. I found this really nice sectional that looked and worked great in our living room. And the pay off amount was less than the other living room set; so of course I was feeling pretty good about finally owning the couches. Little did I know that when I traded my old living room set for the new living room set, I was picking up on someone else's payments (Rent-A-Center had a clearance event going on at that time) So it was like my couches were "second hand" about a month later (07/26/2011) I was sitting on one part of the couch and a bed bug was crawling on my arm! It freaked me out! We never had this type of problem ever before in my dad's house. The next day we were cleaning our living room out, we took apart our sectional couch and there was just an infestation of bed bugs in the lining and surrounding the part where the couches connect. I was very upset, I came so close to owning these couches and now they were infested. So I contacted Rent-A-Center right away and we got a claim started. It was about a month and a half before they finally stopped giving me the run around. During that month and a half I was told to contact Terminix and they came out to my dad's house and did a full inspection and left and we heard nothing more until 6 weeks later (give or take), and Rent-A-Center's district manager (I forget his name) called me back and said there is nothing that they can do, and from the looks of the report that the infestation was already present in the home. He didn't say where, but he did say that there was nothing that they could help me with. A week before I traded my living room set for the sectional we had a housing inspection and they found no evidence of any sort of infestation in our home, and if they did, they would have immediately notified us. But there was no signs of any infestation. So when I was talking to the district manager I of course said he must be mistaken and that it had to be the couches that caused it. Now the "infested" couches are sitting outside my dads home and we have nothing in our living room. I feel like I was taken advantage of and I lost over $2000.00 for a sectional I can't use. I thought that after they repossessed furniture that they would inspect and clean it before putting them back in their "show room". I'm at a total loss and could use some advice any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Rent-A-Center stay away

I have worked for the company for 4 years now and the only thing i have learned is how not to treat people. i mean debt collection is a big part of the job, but when your store manager intentionally has you breaking laws and then threatening your job if you don't. I mean that isn't professional.

Then you have DM's playing favortism with female employees and tell their cowokers how the have "integraty" issues. I am now on workmans comp for a injury and the employees and store manager tell the customers i have been fired c'mon now ! The company doesn't care about there employees or their customers they care about their income and who they can screw next. They always asked us wheather we thought rac was a job or a career and if we where honest and not being a "poster boy" as they label you, then they would just tell you to pack your stuff because your always replacable. I mean really... DM's or market managers would you all work every day in this job because this is what you love to do?... Didn't think so and if so your a *** liar and you all need some severe training on how to train and be leaders.

Rent-A-Center scam

I've been a Rent a Center customer since 2004, I bought quite a few things from them and always had a trust relationship with the Morrisville employees... until in 2005, I went to pay for my rented Xbox at the time and an employee I never met before used my credit card to make 900 (sex line) calls. I spoke with the manager and it was elevated to the district manager who promptly called me to apologize and extend me a free agreement, and assured me the guy had been fired. I took it into consideration and figured everyone else didn't do it, the one who was fired was the culprit, and they're the closest store (as far as electronics went) so why not. I returned to them and had a good experience until a month and a half ago, I had my laptop computer sent in for service since the camera would act strange (snow screen, as if I had switched the channel to one that had no reception) anyways, I was lent a laptop and due to my history with the company I wasn't charged for it. Once my laptop was fixed, I was called and told it was ready to be picked up, I told the manager that I was working long hours and wouldn't be able to until the next couple of days, but I had one of my friends who could drop the loaner to him. Making a long story short, My friend was on her way to Texas, she didn't return the laptop to the Morrisville Rent a Center, instead she returned it to the Burlington Store (she was late getting the Grayhound bus) I told Isaac (Morrisville Rent a center manager) and supposedly he called them and was told no laptop was returned, I freaked out thinking that my friend had kept it, anyways then I find out that she had another guy in the car who hitched a ride, and he vouchers for her, saying that indeed they were late and she stopped at the Burlington Store to drop a laptop and about 5 mins or so later they were rushing to the bus stop (btw, this guy is in North Carolina, and my friend who dropped the laptop to RAC is in Texas) I spent close to an hour with Isaac on the phone discussing about this, and he flat out told me that either I stole the laptop or one of the two who are saying it was returned are lying, because he's worked with the Burlington Rent a Center and he knows none of them could have kept it. Now because I have a couch set that I'm still paying on through them, they basically want to hold it hostage (coming to get my couch set) until I pay for the laptop or make arrangement of payment... (they want to draw papers and have it under my name, so that I can be responsible for it)

unfortunately, RAC will not give anyone returning merchandise (even if partner) unless the account holder physically goes to the store and gives that person access to the account. At the same rate though, what's I'm wondering and been researching for a while now is that, unless you actually sign a contract, I can't imagine being responsible for the item... (for as bad as that sounds, I believe it to be accurate)

Rent-A-Center referrals

I am a single parent and just trying to make it in this economy. Every chance I have to make it a little easier I do. Well those comercials you see about Rent A Center referrals are a bunch of BS! I have been a loyal Rent A Center costomer for quit some time. I at one time enjoyed renting from them. I have now been accused of stealing a washer and dryer that there manager sold to myself and my father. It turned out that there manager was tking money from the store and they had the nerve to call me and ask me to come up and continued to inform me that my washer and dryer was not paid for and that I would prob have to talk to the police because they did not show that I paid for it and I didn't have a reciept for it I had paid for it in cash and the manager was un able to give me a reciept at that time that I could come back and pick on up when the printer was fixed, Needless to say that I was in there paying my bill on a diffrent item and low and behold once a agian they said that they could not print me a reciept because the printer was down after just pretty much accusing me that I didn't pay for my other stuff because I didn't have the reciept 4 months later? What the heck? Finnally it was resolved and I still have my washer and dryer. Now I just found out that I had 42 refurrals saved up to help pay for my tv, because being a single parent I need help sometimes so I have those to help when needed and I worked my butt off to get them! I find out that they are now taking those away from me? How can they so that? I earned them, the new manager told me him self how many I had and that I was able to use them how I wanted too? Now he is taking them away? This is truely unfair How can they keep accuseing customers of things then taking what they have earned away? I am in shock and in a lost for words. Is this even legal?

Rent-A-Center tv

I had purchased a 37" flat screen tv from rent a center of Aberdeen sd an before I payed it off I had told them that there was a problem cuz part of the screen had a black streak in there. They must of thought nothing was wrong cuz never did ### to fix the problem now I have a dead tv with now warranty so they say. An all the money I payed for it I could of got a new one plus 2. They sell appliances that are junk. I'll probably never get it fixed but this is where ppl who can't afford things to get them an shouldn't have to worry about it going out. If they can't back up there products then they shouldn't sell to the public. I want a replacent or to get mine fixed. That's what would be right for them to do. Thanks

Rent-A-Center they need to go out of business!!

Rent a center is a rip off! I rented a 32inch. TV that basically ended up being more than a 52inch is worth. I am so pissed I even let my BF talk me into getting the *** TV. I went into Best Buy and found the same exact TV for $400.00! They are rude and go by what ever means to collect there money/and or merchandise. They went as far as contacting my landlord for a payment. I have dealt with them for a over year now. The harass you at work and they are extremely unprofessional! It's horrible! I wouldn't recommend anyone to rent from this company ever! They aren't reasonable and could care less about you or your well being! This company should seriously consider going out of business!

Rent-A-Center total misrepresentation

I rented a laptop computer from Rent-A Center. I thought it was new. I have paid over 400.00. They
tax my weekly payments. I am close to the "90 days same as cash" buyout price. I still owe over $700.00
plus sales tax again. If I wanted this brand of "refurbished laptop" I would have bought it for $350.00 at
most places. They stick you with all these "hidden charges" without really explaing what they are.

I consider this to be misrepresentation. I rented what I thought was a new computer, taxed and still owing...
it is mosty certainly going back. I have a call into the district manager.

I will never do business there again. They are a "secret sham"

Yveltes-
i have rented to own from this store for over 10 years but when I had a problem there I tried to discuss the issue with an employee and he was a conplete jerk to me. Only after screaming and demanding the district managers number numerous times, did this tool finally give it to me. I called three different times and all I ever got was a machine to leave a message on, which I did- but I never got a phone call back, This place is a joke, and the only thing more ridiculous then the A-hole who is the manager there is their customer service! I will never recommend this place and have already deferred over 10 people from renting from there.

Sorry--I've had problems with rac before too. They advertised that if you had rented something, gave the item back, and then later rented another of the same item, you have previous money paid into the item applied to the new item, no matter how long ago you had rented the first time. I lived in Stroudsburg, PA. I rented a washer/dryer set from the RAC in East Stroudsburg, the Kmart/Walmart plaza on Lincoln. I paid $700 into the set. We moved to an apt with no hookups and I gave the set back to RAC. 4 years later, I moved out (was living with my family) and wanted another washer/dryer set, setting the 'guarantee' they were advertising. This outlet of RAC refused to honor what their company was advertising. Pulled up my records, verified my payments, and then sent me out the door. I now live in Tonawanda and have an apt with hookups. I want a washer/dryer set. Will I get my previous $700 applied to this set that will end up costing me over $2, 000? Of course not. So I'm dragging my clothes one load at a time to the laundromat. I'm a walker--no I cannot afford a car. I won't put $400-700 into a used set with only a 30-day warranty. The only shot I have at a new set is RAC or Aarons, and both of these companies rip off the working poor. Sears has layaway on appliances and this locks in the sale price. That's the way I'm going to go. It will be months before I have a set, but it won't cost me 3 times the value, won't break in a month with no refund, repair, or replacement, and Sears has sales on base model washer/dryer sets running $450-600. Done deal.

Hi Teacher500, I work with RAC and we’re sorry to hear about your situation. Products are specifically marked as "New" or "Used" on their tags and then again on the customer’s contract. If the District Manager is unable to address your concerns, please contact Customer Support at [protected]. Hope this helps.

If you don't like it, return it, what's the problem? When you rent a car do you expect it to be new? As far as tax goes, being a teacher I'm sure you realize that taxes are set by the government, so it's not fair to blame the vendor for them.

Rent-A-Center delivery sucks #

Ok so my husband n I decided to get a tv thru them, this being the first time going to a rent to own place like this...BIG MISTAKE! We signed papers on a Fri, they said they'll deliver the next Thurs. They ended up arriving 3 1/2hrs after the promised time at 7:30pm, no courtesy call or anything, I had to call them! Then the guy setting up the tv don't have the bolts or whatever. He said we'll be the first one they stop at the next morning, So I call the next day at noon, they promised around 1pm. 2:30 rolls around n I call again. Nothing but excuse after excuse...Waited n waited...Well here we are on Saturday n the tv is still sitting on the floor not being used by my family. Come on guys, you guys want your payments n ### on time, at least have good customer service! Bring my ### n set it up on time!

You are a ###. You are worried and complaining about set up, when what you REALLY should be concerned about is COST. Hey trailer trash, here's the deal. You over paid (probably for a used item). You most likely paid 2 to 3 times MORE for this TV than if you had waited like a mature NON-hood rat adult until you had the money to buy it. But noooooooooooooooooooo. Being stupid trash, you had to HAVE it now like some 8 year old entitled brat. If you look up stupid on the computer, you picture comes up. The definition of stupid is ANYONE who rents from these soul sucking "business" like RAC. Grow up.

Rent-A-Center rude service

I rented from the Jamestown rent a center for quite awhile. I went thru some hours reductions at work and had a death in the family. I called them to let them know i need to return my items i could not afford to catch up or keep up with payments. They talked me into keeping the items and work with me. We we gave it a try but did not work out. Decided to return everything. Well now back to work and hours back up to par i decided to walk into the Jamestown ny store and re rent a laptop. Well i sttod there for 15 minutes not even a hello may we help you, they know me by name. So i walk up to the counter and first thing out of one of the mouths of one of the reps is we cannot rent to you for past history. My issue isnt the policy of not renting my issue was they were rude enough to treat me like i was a piece of crap and ignore me, Pretty much walked out in disgust. So i called the main office and filed a complaint. Didn't do a damn thing for me not that i want it to i would not rent from them if they gave me a year free in rent payments. Rent a center... Kiss my A**

Your Athens store workers on West Broad St. are the rudess group of workers I have ever encounter. You really need to get a group that love to deal with the public not a group that just want to get paid. I use to love your store now I hate it.

I was a old customer trying to enjoy your services again but your new staff made that a big mistake on my part. If you don't clean up that store you might get a lawsuit against your company for sexually harrestment. Please correct this problem soon as you can.

Wow I completely agree with you there as far as RAC kissing your a**... I am in a situation with them now where I want to return what I am renting but it's all like "oh well you're late on your payment, we need you to make that payment, blah blah blah..." and when I offered to try to get current on the account, such as making a week payment to try to get it current, she pretty much told me that she couldn't accept a week payment, that I had to make a 2 week payment. I said, I will be in before you close. She tells me, I can't let you off the phone until you give me a EXACT time you will be in... I repeated, I will be there before you close and hung up. I wasn't able to make it in that day due to a family emergency, and the following monday (today) I got home to a doorhanger on my front door stating I needed to call them TODAY. They are the least of my worries but I will be taking the rented items to them tomorrow. I most definitely will not be renting from them ever again. If I can't afford to get it, I don't need it.

This is sad to say, Rent-a center doors need to be closed. the commerical that they keep playing on tv is false advertising. I tired 2 times to deal with them. they mail you a check to make itlook good to try to get you back. so I went back for the second time. I was given a tv that i wanted and they came and pick it up because they stated that the girl put down the wrong tv. this was the tv that i wanted. the tv that they gave me was not good quality and i didnot choose that tv. they gave me the run around for about 3 weeks, becasuse i told them i want that tv back. she stated to me that it will cost more. and insisted that i keep a tv that i di not want.
the person that own rent a center need to be locked up and his or her stores need to be closed. i have a lot of bad things to say about them but i am not because i will be postng all day long.

First of all your credit is only messed up with rent a center becus they do mot do credit checks. second of all you probably have not told us the whole story. what was your payment history for example? Did you call them and tell them you could not make a payment for on day? Did you read your contract to see what you are obligated to do?

Rent-A-Center evicted tenant

As a landlord, we have to evict tenants on occasion. On two separate occasions we have had to deal with this company because the tenants rented from them. We have always followed the law when it comes to our evictions and by law we are required to remove all possessions after an eviction is completed and a sheriff has removed the the tenants from the property. After a certain amount of time, if the property is not picked up, it is moved to the curb or the landlord may keep, sell or basically do whatever he/she wishes with it. Well, Rent a Center went to one of our properties and harassed our new tenants after being told that the person they had a contract with no longer lived there. They were told that the property they were looking for was not there and was asked to vacate the property. Instead of leaving the property, they proceeded to pull their truck onto the lawn and called the police on our tenants and told the police that the tenants were in possession of stolen property! Needless to say our tenants were very upset by this. The company was told that the the person no longer lived there. That should have been the end of it. They should have left and tried to get in contact with the person they had the contract with, Or call us. our tenants should not have had to deal with this. This company needs to realize that when a person is evicted from a property, it is not the landlords responsibility to know that a tenant is renting from them and what they have rented after a eviction has taken place. They DO NOT have the right to harass new tenants! Landlords beware. This company wit try and hold you responsible and harass your new tenant.
A VERY ANGRY LANDLORD.

first off by them being there after they were told that they should have been arrested for trespassing to top it off harassing anyone is illegal no matter what the reason they should have contacted the local sheriff dept and let them go handle it if they thought they were being lied to but not tell them that there was stolen property there if they had no proof as that is a false police report and again against the law even if they thought it was there it still falls under civil court just like renting a house or apt..
