Rent-A-Center telephone calls

Ive been a customer at rent a center for seven yrs, the majority of my house is filled with their merch, at one point, it was the greatest. Over the last few months ive been a couple of days late with my payment, 5 days late to be exact, from day 1 they called me 7 times if you multiply that times 5 they called me 35 times in those five days. That is more times than any bill collector ever call any one, they are the worst! It is unbelievable they would treat someone who's giving them bussiness all these yrs, run... Run... Run, save your self, do not go to rent a center. You will be better off buying from a crackhead!

I agree with JennD-

Maybe instead of complaining about a company wanting to know what a person is doing with their merchandise, we should complain about deadbeats like you not paying your bills on time!

Or here's another thought: How about you call them and let them know you're going to be late and they'll be more than okay with it!

You people are a bunch of deadbeats that buy things you are unable to afford.

Or instead of calling numbers to complain about collection efforts, you could try paying your bills. If you are one day late or two months later, you are still late. It is kinda funny people then get mad at people doing their job. Do not buy a new big tv or computer when you can't pay for it!

Hope this helps.

Rent A Center employees are not required to study or know the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act- and tend to break every rule in there because of this.

If someone does have a problem with a specific store- you should call the customer service number- and ask for the complaint hot line, THERE IS ONE. Or, talk to the customer service representative- as it is not tied with THAT specific store. Rent A Center is all over- and the branch of managers is spread throughout the US- not just in that store.

I'm not sure of the complaint hot line, but it does exist. Here's the number and hours of operation for customer service. All you can do is complain, in hopes it changes- than do nothing and let it continue.

Rent-A-Center unsolicited phone calls

We are being harassed by rent a center. They keep calling our home at least 5 to 6 times a day but from different numbers back to back. The same day our first bill was do they called us early that morning. When rent a center delivered my bed room set they didn't even put it together. no bed rails.

I was a week behind on my payment and i asked if i could pay on the second of October and i was told no. I was threaten, by rent a center saying that they were going to come with the police department.

Okay, first and foremost, on the day that you are due, they are not supposed to be calling before 10 am. Secondly, you state that your bedroom set didn't come with bedrails? The majority of bedroom sets will not come with bedrails unless you specifically ask for them. As for the payment that was a week late, if you are a week late, after they have been trying to contact you all week, they're going to be a lot less willing to work with you, mainly because you have not returned any of the 12(minimum) calls to your home and cell, and any messages they may have left with your references. At 7 days past due, it's either pay today or return.

Rent-A-Center unauthorized billing

I am so made at rac because i am missing money that i paid on my account and they keep telling me a different balance that is higher and that is not right even though i have three kids and trying to make a honest living with rac stealing your money as you make payments and thats not right. Also i had the granite city driver Robby do a road rage on me in collinsville on october 2nd 2008 about 10;30am about total my truck and i think that was bogus which i kind wish it would have happened then that means they would have to cover that for sure.

I've also had problems with them. Me and my husband just got married 6 months ago so we had nothing and we decided to rent some things from RAC so our apartment was not completely empty. When we first got everything the guy said wecould make payments weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, we chose monthly because that worked best for us. Well, a week goes by and they call and said we needed to make a payment before 7 pm, we had told them that the guy said we could pay monthly and they said we had to pay bi-weekly for the first month then we could start paying monthly, so we paid them and set up pur account where our payment was due on the 15th, then a week later they are calling for another payment. So we had enough with this issue and talked to the manager and obviously they are not going to do anything so we gave up and started paying every week.

Please if you're going to post something for other people to read, make it possible for other people to understand what it is you're actually saying. I got nothing out of that paragraph except a jumbled up run-on unstructured sentence and it was absolutely no use for me to read it.

Rent-A-Center terrible experience

I rented a washer and dryer and today I took a $25.00 money order and $4.63 in cash, to pay a late fee on the washer and dryer since I was a couple days late. Romone at the Leano St. Elyria, Ohio 44035, He refused the payment and brought the money and was trying to leave it on the side walk at the store that I had left to pay the bill. I owe CashEvantage and they said since I owe CashEdvantage that they can refuse payment for the washer and dryer. It is two separate businesses. How can they do this?

If they are calling you about late payments it is because your payments are LATE. You may not think that they are but obviously they are if you are getting calls. and of course they are tacking of late fees because your account is late and of course they are going to call you because your payment is late and the amounts are going to change if you don't pay your payment the amount will continue to get larger. How can you lie about something that is on paper? Nobody is changing your due dates in the computer. 1 because they cant 2. why would they pay your payment for you?
My advice to you: Pay your bill or return the merchandise!

Its annoying when people complain about rent a center because they cant make their payments on time. That is one thing that I really cant help you with. Give me a legitimate problem and I will be glad to help you!

I agree completely with you about rent a center's shady business practices. It seems that not only do they not care...but try and screw you over even more if they can do it. I am currently renting a TV and a washer and dryer. They call me all the time even though I'm not late on my payments...but they claim that I am. They're tacking on late pay penalties and have even gone as so far as to call me at home and tell my wife one thing and then tell me something completely different which has caused arguments and stress. They've lied about how much I was going to pay. They've lied about my contract agreements. They have deliberately tried to cause arguments between me and my wife. And so far even the management hasn't even tried to contact me about the situation at all.

Rent-A-Center scam and cheating

I have bought things w/RAC before w/no problems. I went to the one in Medford, OR where I was living. Bought a TV, stereo and printer. I went in with a week left on my 90 days on the stereo to pay it off in cash, they told me I had missed it by 4 days even though I had the original receipt and contract with the managers signature on it saying otherwise. It took them 3 months to get me the printer and charged me during that time for printer. I got pissed over the stereo and told them to come pick it all up. I had been a good paying customer always. When I told them to pick it up, they begged me to keep the products. I told them *** no, I was going to their competition across town. I told them if they didn't come get it I was going to come drop it in the middle of their store. They picked it up finally and now they keep sending me these stupid coupons for what I had paid on the products towards a new product but only if I take a contract and more than 90 days. I have advised them repeatedly to quit sending me their crap because I'm tired of finding it in my mailbox and me having to put it in my garbage can. I WILL not go back to them EVER! I'd much rather go to Aarons who at least reports when you make timely payments to your credit report AND if you have to move where you can't take the products with you, they transfer ALL the money that you paid into it to the new store for the same product. Screw RAC!

That will never happen "realmanplus." RAC is in a group of rent to own companys that have a huge amount of lobbying power. However, what I could see happening is lawmakers changing some of the ways these companies do business in regards to the cash prices and lease agreements...

Cynthia,
What you need to do is talk to the store manager. If you requested that they not call your workplace then that request is required to be respected. If they still call your workplace then call the 800 number. The district manager will handle it from there.

Just make sure that you make your payments on time and if you find that you can't make it in on the day that it is due. Call the store before it goes past due. ( Keep in mind that if you consistently do not pay on time, they are likely just to close your account and pick up the merchandise and not do business with you.)

Rent-A-Center - violation fdcp; fraudulent actions

I have been an ongoing customer since 1999, whenever I've purchased an item I've always asked for a "new" product. My 1st purchase was unavailable so I was given a "temporary" leather sofa & love seat until the new one arrived. In the meantime I made weekly payments. After 2 months or so, the new items never arrived so I returned the used items. Instead of...

Rent-A-Center service

I have been a customer with rent a center for 3 1/2 years and have a fridge paid off and the whole time we had it, we had to send it in for service 5 or six times. the store did nothing to rectify this and we still had to send it back more. This last time that we sent it back it came back from head to toe with mold in both the freezer and refrigarator section. It took us three hours to clean and all our food was unthawed by then. we are now calling aarons which will cut our payments in half and hopefully will not send us a health hazard back to our home. just say no to rent a center.

To all these people that complain about the service and product that you get from Rent a Center..I have been dealing with them for over 20 years, its all in how you deal with them. There are a lot of people that rent things and then move without telling them, or just don't pay the payments, so when you wonder why they go postal about the money, this is why..I have never had a problem, if you pay the few dollars more each payment for the service contract, then you get a loaner when you send yours in for service, if you don't ask about a loaner, they aren't going to offer one. Simple as that..Learn to ask for what you want. Most credit cards or debit cards charge a business a service charge to process the fees through their banks, hence the new 1.50 convienence fee for paying over the phone.. I'm not saying that there aren't some bad stores out there, but, I have used stores from Texas to Maine and on to Massachusetts with no problems, its all in how you deal with them and how you treat them...When they deliver furniture to me, I always have popsicles at the ready for the workers for when they are finished, it is hard work carrying heavy furniture up my granite stairs..appreciate them and they will go above and beyond for you, simple as that...they work hard for people that don't think about them and how many people they deliver to or how badly they are treated each day..moving furniture and installing appliances for you.

I have spent thousands of dollars at rent a center. The last time i rented from them i have some financial issues and requested they pick up the mechendise. No one came for several weeks. They even scedualed appointments with me and came hours early or late. Therefor I missed them. Now that i am stable again I wanted to get only a tv and they wont even rent me one pice of mechendise. So much for costomer appreitation. So much for all the money i have put in. If i had a rental store i deffinatly would look at the amount of time and money they had spent with me before i turned them away.

Rent-A-Center mgr. emry grayson

I rented a refridgerator, paid a payment, the next time I paid for one month, this time when it was due, I was a few days late, the Mgr. Emry Grayson sent two of his people to pick it up, however upon their arrival I had the money to pay and to keep the refridgerator another two weeks, after that time I will not be needing a rental refridgerator, I talked to him and he refused to let me keep it even though I had the money and it was full of food, about $150.00 worth of food. He was very nasty to me, his speech was slurred, he was not making complete sense and the he proceeded to hang up on me, I was not being rude to him, I just couldn't afford to lose my food. I am filing this complaint on behalf of myself and my daughter, I will also be seeking the $150.00 to replace my food.

I keep reading these and still don't see a problem like the one we have.
We have been renting a big screen TV from RAC for over a year, and a lovely kitchen table, months ago, my son had a keyboard sitting on top of the TV, it fell and broke the corner of the screen, you can still watch the tv, just some lines on the far side, when we asked RAC how much it would be to fix, they said 1, 000 dollars, we of course don't have that kind of money, and asked if they could fix the tv, and add damage cost extra to our payment or take 50 dollars a month on the damages until paid in full. NO they said, one lump sum only. Well months go bye, we of course didn't get it fixed, my son gets laid off from his job, we ask RAC to take back the table and tv, they come right out and get the table, but no on the tv, we ask again.. take the tv and we will pay 50 a month out of my SSD per month. NO .. they say.. so we make a couple more months payments while son was on unemployment. Now, his benefits are gone.. RAC agrees that we can make one weekly payment (60 dollars) per month, so we did, now last week a store employees comes to the door, again I say.. "To get the tv ? " "NOOOO, he says, just have son call the store", my son calls, and offers the one payment, the manager refuses.. "Has to be 2 payments" we don't have 2 payments, car exhaust fell apart that day before, car is in the shop, rent behind, not even going to talk about power and groceries and meds etc.. sooo, RAC wouldn't accept one payment and told my son that legal action is going on now against him. MY son goes in the store saturday, with 3 of his college friends as witness and tries again to make the payment.. was refused again, RAC will not come to get the tv, will NOT accept a payment, will NOT accept a monthly payment on the damage.. I don't understand this at all. It makes more sense to me for them to come and get the tv, repair it, rerent it out to someone, let us pay the damages per month. What are they out ? any suggestions ? we are trying to find legal aid to help us .

they should not have taken the refridgerator from you being that it was only 2 days exp. and you had the money to pay on it. The contracts do say there is not a grace period but they also say all you have to do is pay the reinstatement fee (past due fee) $5.00 after 3 days of being past due. in which case why are they not allowing this for you when its aparent they do for other people. I call that favortism

HERE IS THE PROBLEM PEOPLE IT IS NOT A CONTRACT IT IS A RENTAL WITH THE OPTION TO PURCHASE JUST LIKE GOING TO BLOCKBUSTER YOU PAY IN ADVANCE IF YOU IF YOU ARE SET UP ON SATURDAYS THAT IS NOT A DUE DATE WHICH WOULD IMPLY A GRACE PERIOD FOR A CONTRACT THAT IS THE DAY THE ACCOUNT EXPIRES AT WHICH TIME YOU HAVE THE OPTION OF MAKING A RENEWEL PAYMENT AND FOR ALL OF YOU THAT DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THAY KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR IT IS BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO REPO THE MERCHANDISE ANYTIME THEY WANT (RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE)AND IF YOU CAN NOT HONOR YOUR AGREEMENT THEY WILL PRETTY MUCH YOU PAY OR THE MERCHANDISE DOES NOT STAY

Rent-A-Center never again

Look the last time I rented from Rent a centre I had paid off all but $200 on a computer I was purchasing from your company. I had been making payments for over a year. When your employees stopped by my house because I was 2 days late on my payment they had an altercation with my ex-husband who was not even supposed to be on my property. Whereas your company called me and told me they were taking my property...the computer which was nearly paid off, and that as long as I was with my husband I could never rent from them again. Well, I tried to explain I wasn't with him, which they already knew, and that he was not supposed to be on my property, I even had the money including late fee to catch up payment. So I guess I am out the over $1, 000 I spent thinking I was buying my property from an honest company. I feel like I was stolen from and will never use Rent-A-Center again.

I have rented some furniture from the Niles store as well. It was the same situation with me except my kids were home alone when the tried to break in my house for $17. I also called the police and filed a report! I also have 6 complaints into corporate about the stores practices! I pay monthly and always pay more then I should to bring the balance done, but the recent compliant was I decided that since I was dealing with idiots I would just pay online! Ha they still call looking for money even though corporate and my receipt say otherwise! I am currently up to date w my payment and the Niles store still calls saying I owe them. I believe they are doing shady business and stealing money! When I'm done with paying off my furniture I am suing them for harassment! !

this just happened to me In Prospect heights illinois...i had 2 rent a center employees try and brake into my house while i was home with my 5 year old son...They were beating on the door and telling me to open up, like they were the freaking police or something...they would not go away and told me that they were like loan sharks and that they would be back to my house if i didn't pay. I called the police and filed a report with them because it scared me to death. The police said it was illegal for them to do this and harrass me like this. They actually tried to use a credit card to brake into my house . I could see them through the peak hole. I was terrified. It was like a scene from the godfather. The police did go and tell them to leave me alone. DO NOT EVER GO TO RENT-A-CAENTER
I went to the one in Niles Illinois. they are unproffesional and take part in illegal opperations

Oh, and by the way, RAC is not an "honest" company like you said. Companies like them prey on people who have had trouble in life and exploit them to the hilt. You'll pay $2000 for a computer you could have bought outright for $500.

The lesson here, do not lease to own. Save your money, buy it when you have enough, and don't blame anyone but yourself for the situation. Take a little responsibility, for pete's sake.

Besides, if you buy it outright with cash, you don't pay the interest you accrue through RAC or Aarons.

Rent-A-Center rude manager

The manager at Rent A Center was very rude. When I finish paying for an item I rent something else. I paid over $2000 for a stereo and then I paid over $1200 for a computer.

Recently I purchased another stereo system and a living room set. I pay every week, sometimes I am late but I pay the late fees.

The manager at the store located at 777 SW Capital Circle told me if I was late again he would pick up his merchandise.

I asked him his name he only told me James, when I asked for his last name he wouldn't give it to me.

you should have 30 days to make payments not this 7 day ### and on the 8th day they knock on your door to harass your family and demand money for a measly 20 dollar a week rental agreement ...Note to Rent-A-Dick employees... when you walk to the rac truck open the door and start the engine let it idle to warm... put it in drive and come over to my house you wasted problably 5 or 6 dollars in gas sooooooooooo... that 5 dollar late charge per item per week...is bogus the 5 bucks is so the rent a dick employees... could come to your house harrass your family so they look in the mirror at the end of their shift so they feel tough...Rac employees are not tough...not cool...not well paid...not good looking...not well dressed ...they work for the company so they get paid to legally harass people and pretend to be tough ...Right Nick...Right Allen...Right Gregg...Jason sorry Orlando was too much for you...I guess your way too big of a business man to be successful

if you keep on being late then yes they have the right to pick it up read your agreement dont think they because sdont they skim over it with you and just tell how much you have to pay every week. like you miss three pmnts in a row they will try to pick it up but half the time they really dont mean because it is their job to tell you that my best advice try and pay over the phone little contact can go a big way with them

Rent-A-Center poor experience

We rented a used sectional from RAC, 1st time ever doing business there. We were close to the end of our agreement when we got a week behind and we were told if we didn’t get our payment in by the next day, they would send the sheriff to my house and use a pop lock and come in and get there merchandise. Then in the mean time we were calling countless times to get our payment to them and they refused. Listen, we paid probably 3x what the furniture was worth and they refused our payment, I say they abandoned their obligation. I tried and tried, they said someone would be getting a hold of us and hung up on me; REAL professional RAC.

Rent-A-Center fraudulent actions

I've been with my girlfriend 10 years now and some times we've rented things from Rent a Center. She has always been a good customer; obtained items with no problems. Some late payments but shame on her for paying extra money. Dec 2006 we picked up two computers and a bunk bed to give the kids for Christmas. Times have been tough but here it is 18 months later and 9 thousand dollars poorer and the kids are still on the internet. Now Rent A Center wants them back. We are supposed to pay 116.00 dollars every Saturday, and they have a late fee of 5.00 dollars per item. The policy is in writing in the contract. Now I really hate paying an extra 15.00 dollars a week but the late fee is in black and white on the contract.

So when I bring a payment in on Monday or Tuesday (or Wednesday or Thursday...) I bring in 132.00 dollars. Shame on us for being late but thats what the late fee is for. Add up 15.00 dollars a week and stick that in someones gas tank! Now is it a breach of contract when they refuse to take a payment? Thats right. I've come in during the week (many times) and have been told that they wont take the 132.00 unless i also pay the 116.00 for the next week that isn't even here yet. (248.00 total). If I could pay a week in advance I would. But I don't think they can force me. (Extortion).

They should take the 132.00 (that I owe) and then see me next week for next weeks pay. If I can't make it on Saturday with the 116.00 then they will get another 15.00 dollars in late fees when I come in during the week with 132.00.

I was taken aback the first couple times that i walked in with 132.00 and was told they would only take 248.00. 'how on earth is it 248.00?' Because they demanded next weeks money now. When i explained that I only had the money that i actually owed (132.00) I was shocked when they refused the payment and demanded 248.00. This has happened 5 or 6 times and sometimes they give in and take their money and other times we hold the 132.00 until the following Saturday and bring in 248.00.

This last week on May 31st (Saturday) I did not have the 116.00 until I was paid, late. (after they close for the night) so on Monday I went to work and had a friend drop off the 132.00. When I came home that night my friend said they refused the payment (that I actually owed) and would only accept 248.00. So I sent another friend in on Tuesday to drop off 132.00 and that payment was refused too. (I didn't know it could be so hard to pay a bill)

On Wednesday I called from work and was told by Hope that the manager, (Kirk or Kurt) wanted next weeks pay now because he just didn't think we would be in on Saturday. but Hope said that if we brought the 132.00 in now she would accept it. I explained that I was at work and didn't have access to the 132.00 and that now they would get the whole 248.00 on Saturday when 248.00 would be due.

On the next day, Thursday, my neighbors said they spent a half hour banging on our door. Now today is Friday. I called again to assure that the 248.00 that they want will be in on Saturday WHEN 248.00 IS DUE. And then i was told that they want the computers back. But not the (USED) bunk bed.

Nowhere on the contract does it say that after a specific number of late days the property must go back. I never breached the contract. as far as I'm concerned they breached it when they refused to take my payment (numerous times). And I think it's extortion to demand future payments.

Lemme explain a couple things as far as how RAC works.

1) You have a rental AGREEMENT. An agrrement between yourself and RAC. The same way that you can refuse to renew (make a payment) the rental agreement and schedule a return of the mechandise, Rac can also refuse to renew the rental agreement with you and schedule the return of the merchandise. There is no long term obligation.

The word AGREEMENT means that both parties agree to do business. In other words, if you don't renew the rental agreement before it expires, it is RAC's choice if they want to accept your payment along with the $5.00 REINSTATEMENT fee and continue to business with you.

2) When you make a renewal payment, you are required to make a minimum payment of at least seven days in advance of the date that you are making the payment on, not your last due date.

So in your case, if you are due on Saturdays, you most likely have indicated that Saturday are the best day for your payments to be due on, if you don't show up until the following Wednesday or Thursday, you are required to pay from that previous Saturday that you were due on up to a week from the day that you pay on, for example Wednesday or Thursday. So you are looking at a minimum of 11 or 12 day payment + Reinstatement fees. If you did make that 11 or 12 day payment then you will be due on Wednesday or Thursday. Now you are due a payment when you won't be getting paid until that Friday most likely. So that next payment is most likely gonna be late.

So the practice of asking for the next payment is done to satisfy the minimum 7 day in advance payment and to keep you on your correct due date. It has nothing to do with wanting you to pay a payment that is not due yet because you are supposed to pay a week in advance anyways.

Rent-A-Center money stolen

Like everyone else I also have a complaint with our dear friends at rent a center! 1st I should mentioned I am on social security and I barely make it with the income I make. I was in desperate need for a living room set and saw 1 sitting outside the rent a center store, the sign said 450.00 cash so I went inside and talked to the manager to see if I can talk her down
to 300.00 she wanted at least 400.00 which I could not cover, so I thanked her and left.

A month later I saw the same living room set outside rent a center at the same price 450.00 so I went back inside and asked if she remembered me from a month ago and she said yes I do, so I said I was still interested in this set but only have 300.00 so she agreed and gave it to me at that price but she said there are no returns on the furniture I agreed and thanked her.

Now here comes the bad part! I needed the living room set delivered and told her I only live across the street so she said we can do it for 25.00 so I agreed and she added that amount on my bill and gave me a delivery date for 2 days later. How ever I had a few friends say that they would be happy to help me and get my set that evening, in which they did, they even set up my living room set in which I was so thankful for.

A few days later I went back to rent a center for my $25.00 for the furniture delivery charge and she said it was non refundable, I said what? but you never delivered my living room my friends did, she never mentioned to me that the delivery charge was non-refundable because I surely would have waited until I talked to a few of my friends.

Even though I was boiling hot I kept my composure and I try to talk to her but she was very rude And went to her office and shut the door in my face, around the office there are some glass windows So I went over to the window and knocked on it very lightly and asked her to please talk to me about this And she shut the blinds on me. I am really not sure what to do at this point, I know it is only 25.00 But if you times this with 7 more customers that's a 200.00 profit in which they stole from there customers! Anyone have any suggestions? Because I want to fight this, I feel she latterly stole from me and she will Not work anything out with me.

Rent-A-Center rip off

Rent way which I believe to have been bought out by rent a centre adds hidden charges don’t deliver new merchandise; I paid for new and got used. they also say they have lifetime re instatement you can pick up where you left off if you need to return you rental at any time I HAVE BEEN WAITING ON A COMPUTER that I paid on for over a year and they say they have been looking for me a good one. Do they mean one that doesn’t have roaches crawling out of it like the refrigerator I had to return? Or are they just hoping ill go away? Which I will but not before I tell everyone that I know about their sales tactics. oh by the way when I returned the computer I was because my husband died and I need a couple of months to get things straight and they never gave me back my comp all they gave was excuses that was 1 year ago. So where is the money I already paid? Gone that’s where, they have no intentions on making it right.

The Lifetime Reinstatement Policy is true and in full effect. The only problem I see you having is the fact that when Rent-A-Center gets a return like that, the money you paid on the computer puts it in a specific class of computer. So let's say you rented a computer for 3 weeks for $34.99 a week and the base price was $1000. After taxes it goes up to, let's say and even $40 a week. 3 weeks at $40 is $120. and $1000 after having $120 paid off is $880. In order to put your lifetime reinstatement in effect, they would have to find a computer that has $880 left with the same specs on the computer as the one you rented before. It does take time. Also, how was your payment history on your prior rental? If it's bad, then give up now. They won't play games.

Rent-A-Center new mother harrassed by rac

I really hate to give this company even the single star. The business tactics of this particular store are HORRENDOUS! I have bought $2000+ worth of merchandise from this company, and toward the end, we were bullied, threatened, and harassed by employees of this store. I explained to the store manager (Jesse) that I would be starting a new job and I wouldn't get paid for a month. I tried to keep my account current, but eventually, my account did lapse by 15 days.

In that 15 day lapse, I was left numerous messages that were very threatening. A man named Larry called saying he was going to be serving a certified letter with option to catch up or release the merchandise. Two days later. a guy came to my house, banged on my door, yelled through my window, and told my husband to come "see him outside." I NEVER received the letter Larry said he sent. I had every intention of responding to the letter with a payment. When I called to make my catch up payment, Larry hung up in my face 3 times, before finally taking my payment. After my payment was made, the guy outside still stood at my door another five minutes. I had to call them back and tell them to make him leave.

I understand I was late with my payment, in this economy, it could happen to anyone. I had been with this store for over a year and paid of a couple thousand dollars worth of merchandise successfully, but when it came down to the final $200, I was treated with extreme disrespect.

I have never known a business to take it's collection methods to the point of threatening a woman at home with her newborn, yelling through windows of her home, and harassing her for a delinquent $75 payment. I wasn't even 30 days late. $75 apparently was enough to go "Scarface" on me.

Any other business would have, at the very least, waited for the response of the letter before pursuing further action. Obviously, the word of management team is useless. I'm not even going to mention how the scene created by the Rent-A-Center thug affected my neighbors! He woke my neighbors and scared my neighbor's little boy with the yelling. Rent-A-Center did their own advertising of their business with those methods.

I would NEVER EVER in this lifetime, ever go to this store for ANYTHING ever again! The staff is unprofessional to say the least. They employ thugs and encourage harassment. My sympathies to anyone else that does business with them. My advice, if you want to do business with Rent-A-Center, go to another store, or look up Rent-To-Own.

Rent-A-Center scam and rip off!

I got a laptop and digital camera from Rent A Center. About 3-4 months after renting the items... the items were stolen by my brother in my apartment he lived there... in the contract it does state 'Insurance does not cover a non breaking and entering theft.' But it also states that 'as long as I paid for my items up to date of loss I no longer have to pay up to date of loss.' So I stopped paying for something I no longer had. I started paying more attention to my other bills... more important... I gave them my Police Reports about 4 months ago and still haven't heard anything about it. I just stopped paying 3 weeks ago and they have continually harassed my friends and family members everyday for 2 weeks... I got yelled at from my friend saying that I really need to pay for it because she's getting sick of the calls... my sister called them back after they called her and this is their conversation.

'Hello I'm the Sister of Seth (LAST NAME) he has already given you a police report.' The Rent A Center Rep said 'We never got a police report he just gave us a business card.' What the hell? I have given them the report those a**holes never faxed them to their main office. They lost my f*cking report. They finally took 'The Last Step' by coming to my place of work and Harassing me there... they are lucky they came right before I started... they wouldn't have heard anything from me.

My customers are more important than they will ever be. Anyway... he kept saying that I have to keep paying or they will file 'Theft Charges' hello you idiots... I already did. So I argued with the man and he then continued to speak to me calling me a '###' and that 'I probably looked up gay porn with the laptop anyway.' I will soon be filling out a Restraining Order against the Employee and the Company and if they try to sue me I will be counter suing for Harassment and Discrimination so obviously I will win that. But what do you think about this... this is wrong taking advantage of me because I'm 19 and a Bisexual... they would never harass my mother if she did the same thing... they would drop the whole case.

So her along with a Attorney (Family Member) and her boyfriend and also me... will be going down to Rent A Center tomorrow to have a uneasy conversation with them... I'm sick of being harassed and being called names for my sexuality. I have decided to Record My Phone Call's between me and Rent-A-Center until the restraining order has been issued. I feel I was slandered and feel abused.

Rent-A-Center what can we do

They have been harassing me 4 weeks. They have come into my house illegally and taken their property but they are still harassing me as if they don't know what the heck is going on. I did not file a police report because I'm glad they got their TV back. What else can I do? They say THEY are going to take legal action. Can they? They got their stuff! They have now started beating on our windows and it's scaring my kids. I'm usually not home when they come, but the kids are? What can we do?

I got a computer from them I only owed 200 dollars on it. I went back in and for some reasson my 200 dollars went up to 800 we got in a big fight with them after not understanding why i could never pay it off cause they just kept increasing what I owe. I told them I wasn't giving them my computer back. So they started calling everyday not ones but at least 5 times called my family called my work non stop. Came to my house my husband and I got in a fight w/them in our front yard they told us we would go to jail and they would break in 2 are house if they had to they have done it before. The things they would say over the phone just pissed me off I just gave these people 5000 dollars and only owed 200 on my computer I had been a customer for a year and this is how they treat me. It was like they were trying to get the computer back so they could make more money. So eventually I got sick of the phone calls, them showing up at my house so I gave it back. Well when I went back to the store to talk to the manager about all this. my computer was back up for sale for the original price I bought it for and in there rental agreement it clearly states that they can only sale a rental item for what is owed on it wich was the 200 dollars and I seen it there and I told them what I knew and they told me oh we messed up on the price of it. Yah, right thet were trying to make more money off it. What they do is not right there a bunch of liars and the phone calls and they are rude who gives a ### if im late on my payment thats why there a late fee.

Rent-A-Center beware of broken or roughed up merchandise

I went to RAC looking to purchase a television. My credit isn't that bad, and I have credit cards and am able to purchase a television elsewhere. What I liked about renting was that if something happened to it they would give me another and fix it or replace it. The same goes with a couch. I was buying one every three years or so and liked the fact that we could just give it back and get another at any time. What I don't like about RAC is the fact that sometimes the products are worn out and used. They recycle products. If someone returns a product they just rent it to another. It may be scratched dented torn or whatever. The price stays the same too. I always request it to be brand new or I am not interested. So far I have been lucky. Beware of broken or roughed up merchandise.

I am renting a bunk bed set from the rent a center here in town for my two daughters. The first week that we recieved the beds I started to notice little bumps on my youngest daughter. I assumed it was ants coming from outside so we sprayed thinking that would solve the problem. We then started to notice that my daughter was waking up crying in the middle of the night and we once again figured that ants had somehow gotten back in the house so we sprayed again. It got to the point where my daughter ended up sleeping in our room on the floor. Last night was the last straw. I was at the store so my husband gave my daughter a bath and put her to bed (her bumps had cleared up and started to go away because she was sleeping in our room.) When I got home she woke up crying again, so I decided to give her another bath to calm her down. I was mortified when I lifted up her shirt and she was covered in bumps again. I am a nurse and have a lot of friends who are doctors. I called one to come and identify the bumps and was told they are from bed bugs. We currently live with my mother in law who is one of the cleanest people in Bakersfield she has OCD when it comes to being clean so I know that the bed bugs did not come from our end! Also, she never had bites before she started sleeping on that bed! I called our local rent a center and told them what had happened a few hours later they replace the mattresses and picked up the old ones. The fact of the matter is that I personally have bought thousands of dollars in merchandise from rac and have been a good customer. I even pay two weeks in advance everytime. I used to have couches that I paid a over 1600 dollars on and I had to return them because I moved in with inlaws and the couches did not fit in the room I wanted them in, so rent a center sent me a voucher for1600 dollars that I could use on furniture, it did not specify that I had to use it on the same couches! When I tried to use the credit to purchase the bunk beds they would not let me use it all. They only applied 400 of it! What happened to the rest of my money? who knows? To top it off they brought me a bunk bed that was used, written on and the ladder was broken! Today they finally brought new mattresses and supposedly fixed the ladder but I still feel we are getting screwed! I have been a loyal customer to your company. I have always been kind to your employees and forgiven the fact that most of them with the exception of a few, have not been doing their job! When a payment is due not even past due. They start to call all of my numbers all day long until I go make a payment. Which They know for a fact that I always pay on time. I am so disappointed in RAC! I mean, my baby girl is covered in bites from bed bugs and I am stuck paying 900dollars for something that should have been part of the 1600dollar credit on the account! If my daughter catches an illness from those bed bugs, we are going to have a huge problem! I have taken pictures of her and I will keep them on file! Something more has to be done! This is ridiculous! My trust in your products and service are gone and I know now never to purchase another item from RAC if this is how I am going to be treated! I used to refer friends and family to RAC and believe me that is going to change! If nothing is done, I will take my story to the news and make sure no one else has to go through what my child and I have gone through! I wish to be contacted by a main supervisor not just the store manager, my trust in him is gone! I need to speak to someone in charge!

For all those who buy from RAC be careful. I worked in a service center repairing various products and at least half the stuff is only partially fixed. Our managers told us not to worry about fixing it completely just get it "rent ready". Only after something had come into service 3 times in 2 months (approx.) or we had free time could we properly diagnose and fix tv's pc's and other electronics.

Rent-A-Center stockers

My complaint is with your store employees at 901 n polk st ste 365, desoto, tx 75115, ph: [protected].

I rented a sofa from this location and I make weekly payments, however the store employees call me every saturday and tell me that the payment is due. One saturday I was out of town and as usual someone from their office called me and I was not available, so she called my references looking for me as if I stole something from them... Please take note that my payment is not past due and has never been late.

I spoke to the manager about this and he assured me that this was not acceptable behaviour and it would not happen again, he said my account is noted for a “no call reminder”... However, the calls continued. They call me from their personal cell phones and ask for a payment. On one occasion I refused to give her credit card information on her personal phone, so I called the store. Please take note “I have never been late”. These people are stockers, well today may 5, 2008 was the last straw... I was out of town this past week on business and did not pay on saturday (May 3, 2008). So far today (Monday, may 05, 2008, 3:32pm) I have received over 15 missed calls from this store, they have left no messages, and they just keep calling from different numbers. Their behaviour is so bizarre and I have experienced nothing like it in my life. I want nothing to do with this company and I wish to discontinue our rental relationship. I will request that they immediately pick up the sofa and I have filed a complaint with the police department.

Please counsel these people or they will run away all of your “good” customers.

Rent-A-Center terrible service!

My husband used Rent-A-Center when we moved to a new town. My husband then went away on military duty. While he was gone, I paid the bill. Now that he is back he pays it, it is his account. Once my husband returned from active duty, he fell into a little financial crunch. So he was late on his payments. I don't deny that HE owes them money, but why are they harassing ME!

His payment was due one Saturday but he couldn't make it to the store to pay it because I was in labor with our second child. They knew what was going on and still called my cell phone, 3 times, that day. I then spent 3 days in the hospital and for the first time he had to take care of our oldest child by himself - so he didn't make it. They knew that but instead of calling HIS cell phone, they called MINE, a total of 9 times during that hospital stay.

By the time I came home, they were POUNDING on my door, even though I had a 'New Baby Sleeping - Please Knock Softly' sign on the door. I ignored the door cause the baby started screaming and I then went to the store later and paid it.

The next time my husband was late they once again called MY cell phone 5 times in one day. When I spoke to them, I told them my husband will be in on his next day off, since when he goes to work and when he leaves work they are closed. They told me that I should use HIS credit card to pay it. Since I'm his wife, it will be fine. I told them that it was fraud for me to do that. I am not an authorize user on his card. They weren't happy and continued to call MY cell phone. By my husband's next day off, I received a warrant for the price off the computer - IN MY NAME! I didn't rent the product. My name wasn't on the application. It wasn't my account!

It got so bad that they came to my house when my mother was house sitting. She was instructed not to open the door to anyone. The Rent-A-Center employee banged on the door screaming 'I know someone is in there and I'm not leaving till you open the door.' Finally, my mother said something and they told her that they were looking for ME and she better open the door. Only after she explained the situation did he go away.

I don't doubt that my husband has this account with them and sometimes he is a week late. What I want to know is why they harass me but are so pleasant to my husband? They try to intimidate me and I am not connected with this account.

Maybe if you losers could learn to pay your bills on time there wouldn't be people calling you and coming to your home. Try learning that you have to pay for your toys. For crying out loud, at Rent a Center if you can't afford it all you have to do is give it back! Get real people!

If you're not paying for something that you're keeping, you are stealing!

if anyone does go there get a laptop and see if you can take it that day and if you can pay roughly around 12 weeks into it and then just quit paying for it. Because with rent a center they will not prosecute you after 8 weeks and yes they will blow up every reference that you have put down. but all your refernce has to do is just tell them to quit calling and if the peopke are good at whichever one they will not call anymore. because depending on how which store operates rent a center usually just charges the merchandise off i said laptop because it is the easiest.well beside a living room or a bed room.if you do that you will walk away with a new laptopfor little less than 500.

My fiancee has done the same thing with his payments. He used my parents number as a reference and they call their house three to five times a day if he has been late with a payment. I get anxiety when he is late with the money. They have come knocking on our door a couple times. Thankfully we have a big dog and they are scared of him. And I always find their notes on our door. The writing looks like a 5yr olds! I hate them so much. Oh yes and to make it better. The harassment started three days before the payment was even due!

this just happened to me In Prospect heights illinois...i had 2 rent a center employees try and brake into my house while i was home with my 5 year old son...They were beating on the door and telling me to open up, like they were the freaking police or something...they would not go away and told me that they were like loan sharks and that they would be back to my house if i didn't pay.
