I have a renault Megane Grand Scenic just over 4 years old. I bought this 2nd hand in September 2006 and in that time three windows have failed, the source of the problem being the regulator switch in each. My mechanic now thinks that the first window repaired in November 2006 is about to go again! The total cost to date has been over £700! How on earth can such a small item a) cost so much and b) continually fail? Electric windows are not a new piece of technology and this is clearly a design fault on the part of Renault as I have nevr had another car with this problem. Anyone else experienced similar?

This sounds all too familiar. Would appreciate your comments on my blog post on this problem: http://no-renaultnomo.blogspot.com/2011/06/windows-on-car-go-up-and-down-up-and.html

ihave a megane 2005 hatchback, bought 2nd hand november 2008. within 3 days 2 ignition coils went, luckily replaced under the warranty, then it was drivers window dropping down...in the rain and would not go back up...then within the next few days the light came out of the headlamp on its own. the second year of owning the car has been another 2 ignition coils going, indicator bulb coming out of the housings...which are near impossible to put in unless you are a very small handed person or a child so it was off too the garage again who put it up on the ramp...yes it's true, now we are back to getting the drivers window repaired as yet again we have a problem but hey! look on the good side it is stuck up.i have called renault and out the goodness of their hearts they will repair it with 75% discount so it will only cost between £80- £100 as i would not be entitled to any warranty(12 months) if i don't payanything towards the repair...renault should recall the cars and do it for free! when you call them you get 2 choices...if you are calling in regard to a scenic in regard to the dashboard press button 1 and if you are calling about a megane and it is in regard to the drivers window press button 2. that to me proves that renault know there is a problem and should fix the repair for FREE. does anyone have the head office details...thanks...another disatisfied renault owner

Well my wifes Scenic, 2004 has had the same rear window regulator go twice. I fixed it ok the first time, renault only wanted 290euro ! cool eh. Nice way to make money! Anyway, theres a site on ebay if you type in renault regulator clips.
A second thing that went was the electronic Dashboard. Had to send this up the nort of Ireland, fixes by a great company up there, would reccommend. Again, renault going to charge around 450 euro with only 1 year warranty. I got it sorted for 150stg and 2 year warranty.
FOR THOSE OF YOU THINKING OF BUYING A NEW RENAULT SCENIC...DONT...YOU CANT EVEN CHANGE THE BLOODY LIGHT BULBS. A CANOPY COVERS THE WHOLE ENCLOSURE, RENAULT IN IRELAND CHARGING 120EURO TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB...ITS A GOD DAM JOKE.
SOON WE'LL HAVE TO BRING IT TO A RENAULT GARAGE TO GET PETROL...!

THE COMPANY IS A JOKE!

I believe this to be a deliberate design so that the part fails and needs to be replaced. 3 windows have gone on my 4+ yrs old car. specifically it is the green or white plastic clip that grips the window. if you google "renault regulator clip" and click on the image results u will see they all break in similar ways. My local Renault garage quoted me almost 300 euro to fix. I purchased the part for 30 euro and fixed myself. it took time and hassle, but for the sake of it, i did it myself. now it has happened again to another window, the part is now 12 euro, but is out of stock, so the car has a SERIOUS security weakness now ( the window just falls down and cannot be locked). The replacement part is more robust than the original. I find it very hard to believe that this is accidental, or an oversight, i think that it is a deliberate ploy to get you back into the garage and help generate business for them. The only alternate view is that Renault did not test it, or do not care that it won't last beyond the standard 24 month guarantee.
i feel totally cheated by a piece of cheap plastic and some very questionable design.

I have had the same problem, now all four have gone.

Was yours the small black switch at bottom of door?

I am trying to get the name of it as I want to write to trading standards about this.

My friend also has a renault megane and same problem happened to his!
