Regional Yellow Pages Online Advertising Scam

Received call from ACA Recovery "collecting" for the Regional Yellow Pages Online for advertising we supposedly authorized in a phone conversation last fall. I asked for a signed written authorization, but was informed quite rudely that we owed based on a recorded conversation. They have threatened that this will have an adverse affect on our credit rating. I am so tired of all the time honest business people need to devote to fighting scam artists!

Hi, my name is - -. I am calling with the Regional Yellow Pages. I am calling regarding your request that you made about three months ago, that you want to remove your listings from our database and cancel all your future listings. Is that correct?

Regional Yellow Pages Online Unauthorized charge Telephone scam

We received a letter in the mail from A.C.A Recovery, Inc dated 5/17/2017 and it was addressed to a store name and location that we closed in September 2017. Upon calling the collection office I was informed that we owed $604.95 for the past year's online sevices from Regional Yellow Pages Online. We would never have authorized such a charge over the phone in 2017, as the business had been closed since 2017! We have an additional and separate store next door and we transferred the phone #.

The collection agent named Jim Murphy, told me that he had a recording from the person in my business that approved these charges and that person was my manager. Upon listening to this recording, it clearly was filtered or fixed, as my manager has no authority to approve ANY invoice charges over the phone. We have never received a bill or notification until today when the mailman delivered this envelope to us instead of returning it to the sender. The collector was professional and told us if we did not pay the invoice we would be taken to small claims court and the charges then would be higher.

After reading all the other complaints on this site, I am not sure how to proceed at this point. We did not make this authorization for a closed business and are not going to pay for charges we never received a bill for or used. We are filing complaints on several sites to get to the bottom of this and are not going to be intimidated by a collecion agency. KF

On Friday, Dec. 3, 2017 I received a phone call from a lady about a 200+day pass due bill. I had never heard of it, had not received a bill and certainly did not approve this listing. With the economy we have now I am not approving anything that is not necessary, and I certainly would not approve this when I already pay At&T for this service monthly. Why would I need to pay this kind of money to someone else for that service. I do not appreciate being called everyday about this. I now consider this harassment. I do not want to be contacted by this company ever again.

All the complaints sound exactly like mine. We received a call from this company verifying information. My studio manager answered questions thinking that this with AT&T/SW Bell. We had been cancelling all our yellow page print advertising & she thought it was AT&T. Now we get a call from ACA Collection Agency saying we have not paid the invoice. This company is not associated with AT&T or Southwestern Bell. I do not intend to pay this bill. I would be interested if anyone has made progress on reversing the bill.

Regional Yellow Pages Online false billing

I initially recieved a call from RYP regarding an outstanding ccount two months ago. After saying "yes" to a number or questions that they told me I "had to say yes to" I was suppose ot get an invoive in the mail that would allow me to cancel it. I never recieved a thing and now they are calling me telling me I owe them almost $500.00 and it is going to collections. After asking for the copy of inital agreement of listing they only sent me a copy of the invoice, because there is no agreement of course.

I knew I should have not said yes to anything at the time but I was in a hurry and just wanted it resolved so I went against my insincts and said yes, foolishly trusting it would be cancelled. I should have INSISTED that they send me something in writing before I went any further. I was relieved to see others having the same problem, as I feel like I can fight it now. I will never ignor my instincts again!

I have left a message informing them I am aware of the scam and have contacted the BBB, FCC and anyone else I have too. I will see if I get any additional calls.

I am going through the same thing. I said "yes" to get them off the phone and they sent me a bill in the mail. I researched and found several people with the same problem so I ignored it. Two months later I get a phone call wanting to know when we were going to pay. I told them that we handed it over to our lawyers and we will NOT be paying anything. He tried to saying that he had my voice recorded accepting the charges but I hung up. I then a fax about the bill but I just kept it and I haven't received another call. It is a SCAM and we will not pay anything to them.

Regional Yellow Pages Online SCAM

I recieved another phone call from theses IDIOTS today. When I started asking questions...this [censored] bag could NOT answer them. I asked him to tell me EXACTLY what this company did for my business. He ignored that question...and played back some conversation where I "supposedly" accepted their terms for an online registration...

I asked him to tell me when the LAST statement was sent to me...he couldnt even tell me that!

When I asked this IDIOT to send me all the legal paper work of the entire YEAR contract I supposedly entered into...he sent me a document pretty much stating what I OWED and what they were going to do if I did NOT pay and some GENERIC INVOICE marked FINAL... NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!

I sent an email back stating that I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and also the NY State Attourney and also my personal lawyer. HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT?

They call to "verify billing address", then a few months later fax to demand payment for an invoice you never requested or authorized. They are intimidating and threatening on the phone, playing back the tape where the employee does in fact verify a billing address. They made our employee cry, and when I (the owner of the company) called back saying that I understood their business was a scam, the internet has hundreds of complaints about them, and we were reporting them to the BBB, the person (Kelly Taylor) threatened to go online and post that my company didn't pay their bills. I asked if she was threatening me, and told her that I was taping the conversation. She responded by saying, "GOOD, you're paying for my retirement, because I do not authorize the taping. You had better get a good lawyer because I'm going to sue you." I told her I had a lawyer, and she sounded crazy and should get a life, and she hung up on me.

Same here, got a call first telling me that there is a balance on our bill and they need to verify some info which I did, we’ve got the bill in the mail but didn’t pay it as we didn’t have an account with this company and we knew it’s a scam. They send us to collections and today got a call from their lawyer. I just filled a complain with FTC and I’ll file one with BBB, really hope they’ll stop it as I’m tired of their harassing calls.

I get these calls several times a day, every damn day. Even though I have asked to be removed from their list - I still get calls. I either hang up on them the minute I hear they are from OYP - or I get creative in how I handle them.

When they call, they usually ask if xxx-xxx-xxxx is your phone number - and my response is - "well, if you're the real yellow pages, you would know that number, wouldn't you?" ...

Then, they hang up.

Sometimes I ask if they have children, or if the weather is nice, etc... I usually get responses like "that doesn't have anything to do with blah blah blah ... " and I usually respond with something like "yeah, but at least *I* am trying to engage in a legitimate conversation..."

They hang up.

I am annoyed that the FCC hasn't done anything to stop these ###s - but in the meantime, instead of getting aggravated, I am having a little fun with these jerks.

I agree, I had recieved a Fax stating it was a collection notice. THey had called me 2 months prior stating that we had there service and that they wanted to know if we wnated to contiue or if we wanted to cancel advising me that it is going to cost me 495.00 for the service that we have already had. Me being the office manager verified the mailing address with them not really sure what was going on and told them we do not want this service it is not something that would benefit our company in the first place. They had recorded mestating we did not want the service and confirming our address to send the bill. It was all confusing so I figured when we recieved the bill I would show it to my bosses and see what was going on. Like I said never recieved a bill, just got a clollection notice. I called Max and asked him about this and he wanted me to give him payment advised him that I can not authorize payments like this and had to talk to the owners. He was very rude did not let me talk and never really answered any questions. When my boss talked to him he said he does not have a boss and that we better pay it or they are going to send it to a third party collections. Everyone has to have a boss unless you own the company! We are still dealing with it so we will see how it turns out.

Has Your Office Encountered The Online Yellow Pages Scam!
Phony directories or yellow page scams usually target small to medium sized businesses. The scam manifests itself in the form of solicitors calling businesses and seeking to verify the company's name and physical location, and allegedly calling to "renew" or "re-enroll" an existing yellow pages listing or advertisement.

Many companies are misled into accepting the alleged "renewals." The illegitimate directory provider immediately sends an invoice for this service, usually in the amounts between $500 and $900 dollars, and threatens businesses with collections or credit report damage should they dispute the charges or decline to pay.

Don't be taken into this scam this is theft and its illegal!

This scam does get worse. Lets say you do pay one of these companies either using your credit card or by cheque, little do you know they reprocess your card a year later because they have all the info on file not only that but then they turn around and sell your company profile to another telemarketing office with your credit card information for a generous profit. They will even be bold enough to send you a final invoice to close off the account just around the time your getting your new credit card (as all cards are renewed after a few years)

If you've paid by cheque, what happens is a shocking discovery. Not only do they take your checking information, they get authorization to withdraw from the account many months later and send you a notice claiming they’ve taken fees for online services.

There are limits on how far telemarketers can go, that is why we provide information on how to put an end to telemarketer calls and more efficiently, how to correspond with them about your account and/or to dispute a collection action and can teach you what are your rights in terms of privacy.

Regional Yellow Pages Online unauthorized listing

In October 2009 a representative from Regional Yellow Pages Online contacted our business to discuss listing our business on their web site. An employee from our store said that she did not have authorization to subscribe to the service and that only the owner of the store can do that. She asked that information be mailed to us. After the sales call they said someone would be calling to verify the information. When we received the call our employee was asked if it was OK to record the call. She said yes and thought she was authorizing the information to be sent to us in the mail. Then we received an invoice from them for $479.00. We called them to tell them that we did not authorize this sale and to please adjust their records to reflect this. We did not receive any more invoices and thought the problem was solved. On March 17th, 2010 a representative from Regional Yellow Pages Online called us to inform us that they would be sending us to collection for non-payment and would not send our Business to a Third Party Collection if we paid on the phone that day. After explaining that we did not authorize this and addressed this last year they played a recording of our employee supposedly authorizing the service. There were long pauses inbetween the questions. It sounded like the employee did authorize the service but it is not possible as the Owner is the only authorized to conduct such business for our store. The employee thought she was authorizing information to be send to us about their service. In order to protect our credit rating a payment was made. They discounted the amount to $150.00. What a great scam! Who wouldn't pay $150.00 to protect their credit rating?

Has Your Office Encountered The Online Yellow Pages Scam?

Phony directories and yellow pages - Phony directories or yellow page scams usually target small to medium sized businesses. The scam manifests itself in the form of solicitors calling businesses and seeking to verify the company's name and physical location, and allegedly calling to "renew" or "re-enroll" an existent yellow pages listing or advertisement. Many companies or their employees are misled into accepting the alleged "renewals." The illegitimate directory provider immediately sends an invoice for this service, usually in the amount of hundreds of dollars, and threatens businesses with collections or credit report damage should they dispute the charges or decline to pay.

Harassing calls, threats and use of obscene language can pressurize you to the edge and moreover, a collector may embarrass you by contacting your employer or even be pursued to disburse for a debt that is not rightfully yours.

There are limits on how far telemarketers can go, that is why we provide information on how to put an end to telemarketer calls and more efficiently, how to correspond with them about your account and/or to dispute a collection action and can teach you what are your rights in terms of privacy.

Regional Yellow Pages Online - Script

May I speak with the Office Manager please. . .

Hi, my name is - -. I am calling with the Regional Yellow Pages. I am calling regarding your request that you made about three months ago, that you want to remove your listings from our database and cancel all your future listings. Is that correct?

YES/NO

Yes = Closer. No = Opener

An opener means you do not want to cancel and will be charged the $479.95. This rarely happens so it will be mostly a Closer.

Closer

Alright - What I will do today is that l will close your account and provide you with a cancellation file # and also, we will send you a Letter of Closure stating that the account is permanently closed with us, which means that we will not be contacting you for any renewals or updates, and we will also put it on our do-not- call, do-not-renew list, OK.

Since the listings were started in - - they will expire in - - and will be purged from our database.

You will also receive the balance of the invoice, which is $ 479.95 and the invoice will be marked FINAL on it.

Do you use purchase order numbers down there or should we just mail this invoice to your attention?

Alright, and the address we have on file is - - OK and your name is- - ? And position - - . Are you authorized to approve and accept this Final Invoice for your Company? (Must be Yes)

Our business was contacted the same was way as listed above, I'm the bookkeeper, Mgr, and was standing next to one of our owner's, when he recived the same call as listed as
above, claiming we had an outstanding bill. Explained to him that we had no such service,
he thought that possibly his business partner had set up. I explained we are connected to
two others services, and no others. He asked the person to send a final bill, so I could contact them to explain. We recieved the bill, I called asked to speak with a Mgr who could assist me. I recieved a call back from a Lisa Johnson, who had given me a number [protected], ext 305. It took a couple calls back in forth, and she finally reached me. When I explained what happen, we went back in forth; and near the end of the call she said to me "Your not listing Damm it, and hung up. We have no intentions of paying this bill, but would love to know what else we could do to stop this from happening again, or to anyone else.

Regional Yellow Pages Online Did not Authorize

Received a notice from A.C.A. Recovery, Inc. stating that my account from Regional Yellow Pages Online had been turned over to them for collection. I never authorized any business from Regional Yellow Pages. They played a very suspect tape with the voice of my ex-office manager supposedly authorizing this. Each answer on this tape had a tremendous pause between each answer, not a normal conversation. I called her and she said she never authorized anything as she kne she did not have the authority. This collection agency claims I owe over $600. I have never received a bill from Regional Yellow Pages that I am aware of or I would have definately disputed it at that time. I am going through legal channels now.

My company was contacted by RYPO asking to update information for an existing account that is up for renewal. I asked at that time if the renewal was free and I was told "yes" so I updated my information by asnwering "yes" to the sales rep's questions. Today my office received a letter from a collection agency stating we owe $500 and if we do not pay then legal action will be taken against us. I contacted the company and spoke to Ray Platel, a collection agent. He began to play the recorded conversation that was completely changed. I never heard myself ask if the renewal was free nor were the questions that were asked in the initial conversation the same as the ones being played back for me. All they had was my voice and they pieced it together with a converstation that would benefit them. I was irrate and imediately asked for dates that all invoices were sent to my company. Mr. Platel tried to say they sent an invoice in Aug. 2009 and then he said he contacted my office in Nov. 2009 and left a message for me and then called again in Dec. 2009. No one in my small office ever recalls speaking to a Mr. Ray Platel nor do they recall an invoice coming to our office. The only information we recieved was a collection note. Other than the "update" phone call we never dealt with this comapny and they never provided a service to my company. The only time we heard we owe them money was at the time of a collection bill that said our "account" was considered old debt and was being turned over to a recovery group. This is boggus and this scam must be stopped. I asked Mr. Platel about the scam that I was reading about online and he would not respond and just said we owe the money or he will sue us and ruin our credit. Let me state for the record that my company and myself are not afraid of RYPO or Mr. Platel and we will not stand for this boggus act. We will NOT pay one penny to this company. As soon as Ray Platel hung up on me I did some research online and found hundreds of compplaints about this company. The scam is getting people to answer "yes" to their questions so they can use your voice to their advantage. Do not be fooled! After researching this comapny I filed a complaint with the FTC, BBB, Attorney Genereal for the state of Georgia, and with the FBI. I know this seems like a lot but it took a total of 25 minutes and it could mean the safety of others personal information. Please let's band together and stop this scammer! I read so many reports of people caving and paying... DO NOT PAY THIS COMANY ANY MONEY! Everytime a person pays it gives this company the motivation to scam someone else. Let's stop their money income and see how well they do scamming people. MAKE THEM GET A REAL JOB AND STOP SCAMMING OTHER AND ROBBING OTHERS OF THEIR MONEY! I would just like to say one more time that my company does not care if Mr. Platel calls every single day of the week.. WE will not send any money to him or his company and we will file a complaint every single time he contacts our comapny. Do not be afraid of this scam... They will not take legal action against you because they are not a legal company. Tell them you never authorized any service with them nor do you wish to initiate service with them and you are contacting the FBI, FTC, and BBB. Then ask for their business license and say your attorney will be in touch. Hang up and do not talk to them again. Eventaully the calls will stop. My company will contact our attorney if RYPO contacts us again. THIS SCAM MUST BE STOPPED! Never answer "yes" to anything.. in fact do not answer any questions just state what you need to say and hang up. LET'S NOT BE AFRAID TO STAND UP FOR OURSELVES! STOP THE SCAMMERS!

We did not request the service that Regional Yellow Pages Online is attempting to collect from our company. I called on July 14th, 2009 to ask that the billing be stopped and to question why we were receiving a bill for a service for which we did not ask. The individual that I spoke with asked to record my statement which I agreed to. When I started protesting about the fact that we did not request this service, the gentleman stated that he had to start the recording over because the conversation was going over the time limit. In the second recording, I simply answered his questions which confirmed my name and our address.
In an internet search for Regional Yellow Pages Online, there are numerous similar complaints about the bad business practices of this company. These complaints sound very similar to what I experienced. The tactics of Regional Yellow Pages Online are unscrupulous and underhanded. We are hardworking, honest Christians and I despise dealing with a group who appears to have no regard for basic human decency and honesty.
By copy of this letter, I am notifying our attorney. It is not our desire to pursue legal action but at the same time, I absolutely refuse to simply pay this fee. If it is necessary to go through the legal system to get this balance abated so be it.

I have been threatened by ACA Recovery, stating that I owe 604.95 to Regional Yellow pages online for a service which I did not authorize . When I googled the name I came upon this site and saw all of the exact same complaints. I am curious to see if anyone has made any progress in dealing with this.

Regional Yellow Pages online has a recording of an employee of mine just saying "yes" to confirm our fax number and address, we have been charged over $ 600.00 to supposedly be on their website. now we have been turned in to a collection agency. We will not pay this bill, and believe it is a SCAM. We have also contacted our attorney and he has sent them a letter.

We have been harrased for over 2 years by this company. They originally called and recorded my voice cancelling any service by them, but now they play back a tape that they have altered of my acceptance of services. They are now faxing "invoices" and saying we owe nearly $600.00, including "interest". I have told him I believe they are a fraudulent company and not to call back, but they keep persisting. I filed a complaint today with the Colorado attorney general.

My experience with this company has been very similar- Yellow Pages Online called me last summer to see if I wanted a listing with them.. they had initially contacted me in 2008, offering me a print listing and an online listing in a yellow pages directory. I agreed to it, but when the yellow pages were distributed, my business was not listed. I called Yellow Pages online to ask them about this and they claimed that they had no idea why I would have been told that I would have a print listing, as they dealt only with online advertising. I tried to cancel the online listing in various ways, by phone and by mail, but they have continued to bill me for it. I thought at first that it was just incompetence -a failure of internal communication on their part combined with poor sales practices which they would have to remedy on their own. Lo and behold, they called me again this past summer to " update" my listing. I informed them that I had cancelled it years ago and I was told that it could not be cancelled until it was paid. I told them that I would not pay for a product/ service that had been so misrepresented and they said that was fine, it would be sent to collections. Their collections rep, Linda Binks, was beyond rude. She does not care that the debt she is trying to collect on the behalf of Regional Yellow Pages online is not a valid debt. I hired a lawyer and told them they could take me to court. They have not done so, as I think that they know that they do not have a case that will hold up in court. I reported them to the FTC, and will tell them that our state attorney general will also hear about it if they call again. I was initially contacted in 2008 and am very surprised that they are still operating- this will stop if enough people complain about it and are not intimidated/ fooled into paying them.

I wish I had found this site last year. I did like others and paid ACA off to get them off my back. I thought that was it. This year I got another collection letter from ACA but this time it was from "local us pages". I checked the web site and sure enough there is a listing for my old company. Funny thing, I haven't owned that company for years but yet I still get pages on the web and collection letters. I called ACA and disputed the claim but I am not sure how I am going to deal with this. Looks like the FTC might be the trick. No checks from me this time.

Our business experienced the same and I have call the BBC in New York and they are going to investigate. This have been going on for over 3 years with us. Some way some how all of us business owners need to contract a Attorney General or the FBI to put these people behind bars for what they are doing to all of us. Harrasement is terrible with emails and phones calls. We got scammed into paying it the first time and did the same as many, told them to cancelled and never call us again. But here we are a year later and they keep calling. I asked them to play the recording that they said my wife authorized the advertisement. I then ask them what was the date. They gave me the date. I told them how could this be my wifes voice on this date because she was in the hospital on those days undergoing surgery. So then he turned the subject to well so sorry we will cancel your account but we need a credit card number to do that. I told him no way, you claim to be a laywer, and my attonory said no way to give out your credit card number on the phone. How come your asking if your a attorney. He then hung up on me. If you have any ideas on how to stop this please email us at woodenhearts@yahoo.com
