RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group gym membership cancellation

This is the worst business ever. My 17 year old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor and her doctor has filled out 4 sets of paperwork to cancel her contract. She is looking at brain surgery in a couple of weeks and has to consistently fight with them to stop draining her bank account. The doctor forgot to check a box on the form and "we cannot cancel we need a new form" you have to be kidding me what a nightmare. I will be pursuing an attorney if they charge her again.

RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group I didn't get the order and no refund as well

My experience was terrible; therefore I decided to place this review. I bought t-shirt from RAC Awarness Products. My payment for the order was prompt and I got the email about the purchase. However, after couple weeks I didn’t receive the order. It was useless to chat with the seller, because she stated that the order was delivered. And she heard about refund, she stopped to deal with me at all.

RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group unsafe advice shown

Dear Sirs,

I am not sure if I am addressing this email to the correct place but as a Local Driving Instructor I would like to draw attention to the new RAC vehicle recovery advert that I have just seen on ITV. It is advertising a lady and her children sitting in her broken down vehicle (just after a bend) awaiting recovery...

I teach Pass Plus and motorway tuition as well as novice drivers, this advert shows the lady and family in a potentially very dangerous situation. I understand it is also reported that many deaths are caused by people sitting waiting in vehicles especially on motorways and dual carriageways.

I would really appreciate this advert looked at, or if I have sent this to the wrong address, if you could help me by passing it on to the correct place would be great.

Many thanks

Karen Goss

I can fully understand the RAC advertisement. It is the way they operate their business They left us stranded in Dudley area of the Midlands on the Saturday of a Bank Holiday Weekend at 9 pm, insulted my wife, totally messed up every arrangement and have not offered any reasonable compensation. Enjoy the advert as this is how they will let you suffer especially as our party comprised two pensioners one of whom was over 85 years of age.

Subject: Job Offer From RAC Motoring Services
Date: Wed, 9 Jun 2010

We have our company here in United Kingdom and we deal on Car Buying, Car care, Insurance, Training on how to drive, Loans and leasing, Motorcycle services and so many more, we have few client from the USA/CANADA, California, Florida, New York, Ontario, Quebec and so many other states in the USA/CANADA, but we have been having problems with most of our clients from USA/CANADA, because some would prefer to pay by Bank wires or Electronic Bill Payments, few uses Cashier checks, which we can not cash here, but it is easy to cash over in the USA/CANADA, so we are looking forward to get representatives around the USA/CANADA that can be working for us as a part-time job, which we are willing to pay 10% of every money you receive from our clients, so you would just need to help us get the payment and get it cashed directly from your bank and send the money to us down here in United Kingdom or to any of our local offices worldwide via money gram outlet or western union.

We are looking for a reliable and trust worthy person, which would not take our money and run away, but its always easy to track the person in the USA/CANADA, but we just need to trust you that you will receive the payment and send the money back to us, why we really need you to work for us is because the cost of coming to the States to get the payment and go to cash it our self, will be lot more stressful, because most client would not want to send money via Money Gram or western union.

For Example:
You receive a payment of $1000.00USD
You deduct your income $100.00USD
Send to us: 900.00USD and you pay the cost of sending from the $900.00
or from the money left with you after deducting your income.

If you are interested, we would require your full name, address and phone numbers where we can reach you and also provide us details of where you work and your position in your work place.

If interested please reply with the following information

1. NAME:
2. AGE:
3. PHONE:
4. FULL RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS :
5. PRESENT EMPLOYER/OCCUPATION:
6. You are required to also forward to us a valid form of I.D for Identification and verification purposes.

Regards and await your response,

James Warwick.

Hi, I work with RAC and if an item breaks because of any kind of manufacturing defect while you are still making rental payments, Rent-A-Center will repair it quickly and at no additional cost. When you were renting from us, your store should have taken care of the issue whether that meant fixing the item or replacing it. If you have questions or concerns, please call Customer Support at [protected]. Hope this helps.

RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group Bad advice writing off car

Our VW Touran (reg 56, cost £8.5k 18 months ago) started making a horrendous noise on a dual carriageway a few weeks ago so we stopped the car and called the RAC. We were towed back home as the RAC man said he thought the turbo was about to go.

The next morning, another RAC person came to tow us to the nearest garage. He did not believe the turbo was about to go and believed it was just a loose pipe. He said it was fine to drive to the garage and he would follow behind. We did so, and halfway there the car seized up. We ended up being towed the rest of the way.

The garage advised that the car should never have been driven and that the RAC man was wrong to tell us to do so. Firstly, they said that as oil would have been draining from the engine due to the turbo problem, there was a real possibility of the car catching fire and secondly, as a result of it being driven there was also the possibility of long-term engine damage to the car.

6 weeks after having the new turbo fitted, we started hearing funny noises again, and we took it back to the garage who said that there is a problem with the engine, causing the turbo to keep breaking. The engine would need to be completely stripped to find the problem and the cost is prohibitive and they said we would be better off getting rid of the car now if we can.

They also said that there is a strong possibility this is linked to the fact that we were told to drive the car to the garage with the turbo problem.

Therefore, the questions I have are, a/ does all of the above sound correct from a technical perspective and b/ are we in a position to take any action against the RAC as we basically now have a car which is useless?

I know we cannot prove the direct link, but it is irrefutable that the RAC man gave us incorrect advice, so surely they at least have a case to answer?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group False statements

The below is provided on RAC web site.

What if I have to make a late payment?

Need a little help? No worries. Unforeseen things happen, and Rent-A-Center understands. If you ever need to make a late payment, simply contact the manager of your Rent-A-Center store—weʼre happy to work with you!

Funny how this is not an everday practice. This statement should be consider false advertisment and I'm very suprise to see that there is not a case pending. By this statement posted on RAC's Web site this is not being honored. I personally will be persuing a lawsuite as this must come to an end.

RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group Awful service

I am Barclays Bank Customer, I have addition plus account which collects almost £14.50 from my current account every month. Against this amount; they promised to provide me some services like RAC (Car Road side assistance), medical insurance and some other services. I am paying this amount to Barclays banks since long. Today on 21st of April, 2009 my car broke down when I left my office at 5:40 and car did not start. I contacted to RAC, they said they will come to me between 50 to 90 minutes to provide me help. They also said whoever is coming to you will contact you when he is about 10 minutes away from you. As per this statement I should wait at least 80 minutes which was already long enough. After waiting 90 minutes, when I contacted them again to inform no one is here and I am still waiting... I was afraid by hearing their response that they have not got any person to come to me and I might have to wait for more 2 to 4 hours. I replied them, you could inform me about this in start so I could have gone in time to home instead of wasting my time here in car park after spending my whole day in office. They said we cannot do any thing. We can only say you to wait but we cannot promise any thing. I dont think this was worth. I called to Barckays people to complain about RAC because I was paying to Barclays. They transferred me to RAC and they again after wasting my more 20 minutes promised to call me back in 10 minutes but never called back in next another hour. So finally wasting my almost 3.5 hours I left that place and left my brother there with the car; who has contacted to a mechanic who has promised to come and provide service by getting huge fees. Now I am planning to speak to my Solicitor and will discuss with him what can I do agains Barclays and RAC.

I would request to all new users to not business with Barclays and not to get service of RAC so atleast they will know what loss they can get by not providing required service to their customers.

RAC IS A MICKEY MOUSE SERVICE. BROKE DOWN ON THE WAY TO STANSTED ON 15/5/18 WAS TOLD IT WILL BE OVER 3 HRS BEFORE SOMEONE WOULD ARRIVE- THAT WOULD BE 15 MINS BEFORE MY FLIGHT. THE IDIOT AT THE CALL CENTRE WHEN TOLD ABOUT THIS SAID "CAN'T YOU CATCH ANOTHER ONE" - IT IS NOT LIKE A BUS ANOTHER ONE WILL BE ALONG IN A MINUTE. COMPLAINED TO THE "RARELY AVAILABLE CLUB"; AGAIN IDIOTS IN CUSTOMER SERVICE HAVE HAD A TRIPLE COMMONSENSE BYPASS CANNOT SEE SENSE (THEY MUST BE ON A BONUS FOR OBFUSCATIONS). AWAITING DECISION FROM OMBUDSMAN.

Unbelievable poor service from the RAC... I am not by nature a complainer but cannot believe the service, or lack of, I received from the RAC... I'll cut the story short and just relate the facts... I phoned the RAC at 7.15pm asking for assistance. I confirmed with them that I have a heart condition and therefore needed priority attendance to which they agreed and confirmed they would be with me in 90 minutes. After 2 hours 30 minutes I called them again ( was on hold for 20 minutes before the phone was answered) was told someone would phone back to let e know what was happening...no one ever phoned me back. After 4 hours ( at 11.15 pm ) I phoned again, was on hold for 30 minutes, no one answered. at 1.40 am in the morning 6.5 hours after my request for assistance someone arrived... that's 6.5 hours for a PRIORITY call out to someone with a heart condition... the timing meant I missed important medication cycle, plus I was never kept informed or updated …. I didn't even know if anyone would turn up at all. I complained to the RAC and their response is that they cannot guarantee how long they will take to attend... 6.5 hours for a priority call …. unbelievable

RAC are breakdown from hell farce. 4 hours to attend breakdown. No diagnostic adaptor for computer fault determination. Car running by then prior to them arriving. Send car off home 6 miles NOT following car. Breaks down again within 1 mile ! Another 1 hour wait. Tows car to home 5 miles and promises relay will take car onto garage 9am following day. No pick up. Midday promise they'll be there by 2pm. At 2pm recovery phone demanding extra £35 +vat to take car onto garage... Eventually relent. They finally get car to garage 5pm. Fault was simple wire to injector 1 on diagnostic computer which could have been done at roadside within 20 minutes. £249 diesel specialist invoice over wire fault, diagnostic and a secondary minor fuel leak from injector 4 not related to breakdown. Wasted over 5 days, including car hire costs. Unending phone calls, let downs, failings, ineptness. Complete waste of time and money, unfit for purpose breakdown outfit !

i called them at 2pm after 4x promises and no calls at all, freezing, i had to call a friend to tow me, they just lied to me, one girl had a pretend conversation with a driver, as after the famous 90 min, well after 100 minits, give them a chance..call again to be told the did not order a truck at all. but no calls, stuck on double yellows in a cycle lane fighting off wardens. they are a joke who lie, mislead, and just have not got the capability to do the job in hand. they are thousands of complaints like mine. we should all call watch dog there is anf for a good show.

We broke down in a remote area and were left stranded in the pitch black for 6 hours. The initial call at quarter to seven gave us hope when they said someone would arrive in 75 minutes. After waiting an hour and half we called back only to be told there would be another half hour wait. This mystical half hour was to be the forerunner to many more half hours. The mechanic eventually arrived at 10pm but the car was irreparable and we would have to wait for a pick up truck to take us home. Desperate for a natural break and a drink, not having eaten since noon, we took up his offer to take us to a pub. As the truck was only half an hour away and the temperature had dropped drastically we opted to wait there. Now stranded, the pub closed we shivered whilst we ranted at the RAC demanding to know where this driver was, only to be told it could be another hour before he could reach us. The truck never arrived, they sent the first mechanic back who had attended 3 hours earlier, he hooked us up to his van and drove us home, arriving at 4am. RAC had sub-contracted the work, they do not have the resources nor can they provide cover. Thank you RAC for your appalling service.

My car broke down in France, was diagnosed by a 3rd garage after the first 2 couldn't/wouldn't repair for over 2 weeks. My car was repatriated for repair, but several major engine parts are missing (throttle body, rocker assembly, and god knows what else). RAC says if the removed parts were not specifically requested to be repatriated with the rest of the car, then the French garage will keep them and 'recycle' them. Sounds like Pierre has helped himself to whatever he wanted. I asked the RAC about their choice of garage and the legality of stealing parts from my car, and they says it's between me and the French garage.

I'm phoning (1) the RAC, (2) my insurance company, (3) the Police, (4) the lawyers (5) Insurance Ombudsman, (6) Association of British Insurers, (7) Financial Services Authority, (8) Watchdog

RAC Motoring Services / RAC Group Money scam

My parents have come over from New Zealand to drive around Europe in a camper van that my husband and i own.

They called the RAC before they left NZ, explained that the van is owned us (we live in Scotland), and that they would be driving around it Europe in it for 4 months. They informed the RAC that they do not have UK drivers licenses on several occasions throughout the conversation and asked for an insurance quote to cover these circumstances.

The sales person they spoke to insisted that they would be covered and that nothing would be a problem. They could be covered on their foreign drivers licenses and covered throughout Europe. The cost would be around £600 - which they paid in full.

After they arrived and read through the policy documents (which were sent to us in Scotland) they found a small clause in teh small print that contradicts the document by stating "will not be covered in Europe on non uk drivers licenses" - so we called them again.

We explained again that they were driving it around Europe and needed insurance to cover them and also informed the rac that they had foreign licenses. The person said that they could be insured but it had to be an additional cost of around £600. To which they paid. (total now stands at £1200 to the RAC - £0 to us)

We have called the RAC today - to chase the new docs that still have not been sent - only to be told that they are not insured to drive in Europe unless my husband - the owner of the vehical is with them - Something the rac failed to mention in the several previous conversations we had with them. And since my husband cannot take 4 months of work to go and be a 3rd wheel on my parents romantic 2nd honeymoon - the RAC say now that they cannot insure them.

I have just spent the last hour on the phone trying to cancel the policy because we were mislead into purchasing it only to call 3 different times, get hung up on once, told he cant refund me cause the customer service team was closed for the day and another person couldn't find my policy - convenient!

How do i get my money back - and money back in full?
