Publishing/Llumina Press review: Avoid this Vanity Press!!! 6

I chose this company to publish my book because they promised that they were different from "vanity presses" in that they only published professional, well-edited books. One aspect of the publishing package was that they would edit the back cover text provided by the author.

Because I am dyslexic, my spelling leaves a great deal to be desired, so this was an important feature of the package.

I was horrified to learn that the book was released with a back cover containing multiple errors in spelling and grammar, things that were supposed to have been taken care of by a professional editor. One name was spelled three different ways on the cover alone!

I later found out that the person responsible for editing back covers is the owner's mentally disabled (autistic) daughter!

The interior text was sent to me to approve the editing. I was told that I could make any additions to the text that I wanted, and so I did. They did NOT tell me that no editor would ever look at the additions I made. Because of my dyslexia, I added errors, which were never edited.

After spending thousands of dollars, I have had to pull my book from Llumina and take it to another publishing company to completely redo.

Yes, I totally agree. My book is still selling since 2009 and I have not received any money, OK I did it about $7.00 since 2009! It's a terrible business. I will redo my book and have a legit publisher to take care of things.

Hi Jeffrey, my name is Holly Eckert who is also an author who published her first book through Llumina Press in 2013, thinking I could trust them. I too have received very little money from Llumina but have seen used copies of the book being traded in higher and higher numbers on the internet. Could you contact me and fill me in on what the actual situation is with this company. I still find them advertising as a legitimate publisher. Are they? I can be contacted via my email at hollyeckert@hotmail.com. You'll find my book listed on amazon.com under its title, "SEIZED - Searching for Health In the United States. Thanks, I'd appreciate the help. holly

WARNING: Llumina press is the worst business I have dealt with. Their work is shoddy, and if you make a complaint, they don't answer. Even if you send them an e-mail, they don't answer. They only answer you before you pay, but after that -- watch their attitude change. They don't give a damn about you or your work. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID

They stole my money and won't return any of it.
Incompetent P.O.D. Could not produce my book as per our agreement.
Very young inexperienced girls run the company in a fraudulent manner.
They say the author comes first. Reality check shows it's all talk, no substance behind the talk.
Author signs contract. Llumina Press never signed the contract for their side of the agreement, but said it's okay, don't worry. HA!
Check around to find out, they are unusual in their lack of customer support. Others are nicer, faster, more cooperative and less costly.
Also they don't give an accurate accounting for royalties.

Sorry we picked an incompetent publisher who resorts to manipulation. They are a Print on Demand publisher who run the business with an experienced Mom as the owner. The rest of the staff is young and inexperienced, but they learned from Mom how to promise whatever the customer wants, then manipulate to make the customer appear to be causing the problems.

The VP graduated college in 2008. The other daughter is new on staff, on line, this year.
Once problems start, they don't end until the author caves in with months of frustrations. I'm at the end of my ropes with them.
The Better Business Bureau of Tamarc, Fl. accepts on line complaints.
There aren't any entities that oversee publishers so they are free to do whatever they want, unless we stop them. Dispite their arguing about it, “The Quality of your book will speak volumes about the quality of your writing.”
