Providian National Bank - Awful bank

My husband received two letters from a collection company yesterday. Both were from the same Original Creditor (Providian National Bank) with two different account numbers with two different Balances. One for $9, 388.79 and the other for $8, 979.67. We have never received anything letters from this company before or any collection letters regarding these accounts. We do not know who this company is. I (not my husband) had a Providan Credit card with a line of credit of only $500.00. I stopped paying on this card back in December of '2003. We have been cleaning up our credit for the past two years and now we received these collection letters from this company that we have NO IDEA of what this is for. 'This is FRAUD' Can someone please tell me what I need to do to find out who this company (Providian National Bank) is and how my husband all of a sudden owes them for two different accounts that were NEVER OPENED. This has never been on our credit reports before, nor have we ever received any letters from Providian National Bank, nor have we received any collection letters regarding these two accounts, nor has my husband ever had dealings with PROVIDIAN NATIONAL BANK. 'HELP' This is $18, 368.46 dollars that they are claiming we owe them and we DON'T KNOW WHO THIS COMPANY IS.

I'm paying off a credit card that I have already payed off in 2007 which is providian national bank. I only had a 400 dollar credit limit, they had a law firm collector write me in 2014 stating I owe 3, 500 dollar. They ask me to set up payment arrangement so I did, by reading y'all statement I no providian have gotten over on me and I would like to get all my dam money back that I have payed into this account. Y'all need to be sued. FAkE ...

In February 1999 I went to bankruptcy under Chapter 7 and after that I spent years covering my living expenses straight out of my paychecks, now I'm told that Providian issued a credit card on my name. It wasn't until a few months ago that I got from my Bank (Washington Mutual) a credit line for $500.00. and I felt motivated to repair my credit. I made some advance, then, suddenly my score was lowered by 7 points and soon I understood why: I was defaulted for a delinquent account I never requested or used.

I received a letter (mailed to the house of my girlfriend's aunt) by a collecting firm, Altman, Altman & Cooper from New York telling me that if I don't respond disputing the debt, they'll assume the debt is valid. I mailed my dispute, certified, and they called me to cynically assure me I got that credit card, used it and made payments for some time and they gonna proceed to collect the money. According to this letter the original creditor was Providian National Bank, then the debt was sold to New Century Financial Services Inc.

Over the phone a representative from AA&C told me I was defaulted in 2003 and the case was handled by another firm. He said that I made my last payment in 2001, I told him that I came to Florida in March 2001 when I was collecting unemployment benefits checks and I was making no payments to any credit cards, but they just kept repeating themselves.

I have the sense these institutions pave they way to court to get us defaulted, preying upon us like vultures upon a dead cow. Help, Please!

I just received some paperwork with this bank stating the same thing. It's not on my credit report but it's appeared on some other paper work when we chose to refinance. What's up with this bank, how can the gov't allow them to do this over, over, and over again.

You need to write a letter to providian saying simply, "This is not our account." Than ask them to provide VALIDATION with:
A copy of the original contract for both accounts
Payment history on these alleged accounts

Tell them they have 30 days to provide the above validation records, or you will contact the FTC in your town, the FTC in your State, and the Government's Office of the FTC.
Also remind them you want either the COMPLETE validation records, or a copy of your credit report. In addition, theis account is past the Statute of Limitations for collections anyway, and they are attempting to collect "zombie" debt.

Remind them, that as long as these accounts are in dispute they have to BY LAW, remove them from your credit report - send a copy of this letter certified with receipt, to both the credit agency, Providian, and the collection company if they sold the account.

Good luck - if you are persistent, it will be dropped - don't panic, take control.
