Prosper Learning Did not deliver on promises

I signed up with Prosper through a recommendation from Shawn Casey and was originally told that I was joining The Shawn Casey Institute for Internet Marketing...I did sign up but I spent tons of money and got lots of runaround, little assistance and was told that I would have 24 assistance for my web site (which they never showed me how to use) and I got to talk to people in another time zone until 7pm their time...which didn't work for my time zone. By the time I got home from work I had between 30 and 45 minutes to try to reach someone. I wasted tons of money and was treated poorly...even my coach quit! When I wanted to move my website to another host I was not given any assistance and was treated horribly...finally my website was moved to a place I didn't want to take it...but was told that it was that or nothing but I still have very little idea how to use it. They also changed the password on my blog and when I try to get the new information it never works. Not sure what that is about but why would they change the password if I didn't want it changed. It has been a couple of years and I can't even believe these people are still in business.

Prosper Learning follow up

Looks as though Prosper learning is still at it .The problem is that they have lawyers that know just how far they can deceive without getting in to much trouble, The LLC takes the hit if anything and all there personal wealth is protected.
There selling information that is free if you have the time to find it .For the amount of money they charge from people that are losing there american dream.Prospers sales men are the key to there whole operation but the owners are getting away with with all the loot how stupid these sales men are, sure they make a good paycheck but at what cost, time will tell.
Thousands if not millions of $$$$ are scamed and the BBB gives them a A rating and gives robert allen a F rating .
How many people kill & die for so much less we all know where they work and its only distance that has kept them safe from harm.
These sales men are killers of hope and dreams and the more they decieve the better they get at it.
Will the sales men at prosper are getting screwed because without them there is no Prosper.Like a car thief they get such a small cut for there dirty deeds.
I was took in 2010 by prosper and still as bitter as ever .

Prosper Learning Totaly Missleading

Information on Prosper Learning
Before you buy in to there scam you should find the facts as to how many students actually make any money.
I do not think that info is available nor are a lot of true facts about prosper available .This scam is so bold it somehow works, The contract is telling you that prosper gaurantees absolutly nothing, nothing, nothing.
Get this if you pay off the money you owe them in full they wont penalize you I thought that was a given if you pay anybody off in full. Prosper you better start packing cause in the end of your rampage of inocent peoples hard earned money your own guilt will strike you down.
prosper employees keep on lieing to yourselfs eventually lies eat away at anything positive in life That my friends is a Gaurantee. Come on prosper do you now what some good people will do for you for 10 thousand dollars the Gaurantee is a given.
For 10 thousand dollars prosper can not sqeak out one Gaurantee in there contract and they claim you will make your money back in 4-5 of weeks .
PROSPERS CONTRACT states they WILL NOT GAURANTEE STUDENTS that they will make any specific amount of money for 10 thousand dollars come on prosper your so weak in gaurantees and so bold in promisses.
The people that claim they made money where are they, come on out will chew you up its all words.
Prosper and its people SUCK SO BAD EVERY WORD THEY SPEAK IS A LIE.
I DID NOT MAKE A DIME AND THEY WANT TO KEEP ALL THE MONEY I PUT FORTH 10 THOUSAND PLUS DOLLARS FOR 11 45 MINUTE CLASSES this is from people claiming to make people rich.

I wish I had read these complaints prior to being sucked in by them as well. I did not pay the large sum that you did but at the same time I did not get the same service either. For just under $3, 000 I only got 2 coaching call sessions. When I tried to get a refund I was told emphatically NO. When I said I felt that much money for 2 sessions was outrageous, they listed all the people who had to be paid to make these two sessions happen. Apparently everyone except the janitor got a piece of the pie. It is true that they did not lie; however, the pitch they give and the service rendered are miles apart. No need to rehash others complaints but just want everyone to beware. Hope this saves at least one person from having to max out a credit card and pay a monthly fee for the remainder of the amount to be financed.

I totally agreed with you. I signed up for Prosper Learning and paid over $10000 plus additional thousands paid to other companies they are associated with. I am trying to get some ways of making this issue public so that other people won't fall into this trap. I paid Wholesale Match $1000, and their website is gone. I paid $4000 so far to Nationwide and Taxsentry and they are still deducting money from my credit card because they are not canceling my account. I have to say they don't know what professionalism is and they only care about how much money they can squeeze out of you.

Nationwide persuaded me to register my company as a LLC even though I told them that I am importing goods from oversea and they said "it doesn't matter". It turned out that it really matters. Anyway, I am still in the process of getting my refund. If not, I am hoping to gather more people to speak out about Prosper and the affiliating companies.

Prosper Learning Scam

I fell victim to Prosper Learning. I maxed out my credit card in order to fund the eCommerce program I enrolled in.

So far I have not made a cent, and the program is just not what I expected when I signed up. I have been in contact with Prosper, and it doesn't seem like they are going to let me out. I'm only about 1.5 months into it, so i offered for them to take 1 month of the fee I paid, but it just seems like I'm not getting out.

Is there anything else I can do? Help!

Prosper Learning lied to me. I foolishly signed a contract with them thinking that it was the end of my debts. Instead it was the complete opposite, and now I am even further in debt than I was before, and I no longer have my credit card for a fall back.

Prosper are listed with [redacted] declaring that they are legit and has their approval. Any student of any program should have the right and liberty to leave because of any number of circumstances. There are other programs out on the internet that offers the same Affiliate programs that Prospering.com have - but all for totally free! No one should be obligated to them! Prospering.com are certainly very pushy and downright unable to give people the freedom to leave their program. It certainly is a bully tactic by force for them so say that they are not going to refund you, nor will they stop payments from peoples' credit cards even if they want to leave. Propering.com will take money away from you, regardless whether you do the program or not! If you don't comply within their terms, then they will forward your account to debt collectors to force you to pay up their fee. What a joke! Their fee to make you do their program or not? What's going on? Biggest mistake was to sign up with prospering.com. TOTAL SHAM! AND A COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT!

your coach will tell you to go sign up for a service on another web site, it will be someone with in there company and they will try to get you to give them more money from your credit card, these so called Affiliates are mislabled as companies but are actually from prosper and/or representing prosper and they will have your credit card info . in there hands. these web sites are owned by prosper or there employees. Don't let them take any more money from your credit cards, the services they offer are a scam anyway.. Like you will find all over the net, most of what they teach you is free and the service they want you to purchase is way over charged or another scam. Hell Brian Bollard tried to get me to purchase a web site through there host Megellan.commernce.com instead of getting your own domain name and host, he told me that he couldn't move it to my own host and domin that I had already purchased, he said I would have to hire a professional which leads to the lying sales reps that say there coaches are experenced professionals. These are professional scam artist and Karma does exsit

There is a couple who said they are hring a lawyer to try retrieve their money back. I think we should ALL joined them, not only to hlep defray costs but to just show how many people they ripped off.

I finally am trying to do something instead of just stewing about it. I will start with the Credit card company first, then call the Utah Attorney General, the BBB, and as many congressmen from their state as necessary to put pressure on them to refund our money!

Prosper Learning Fraudulent charges

fraudulent representation & product

I agreed to take the training from a fast-talking agent of Prosper Learning on the phone. I didn't realize it had a cost attached until after I agreed to 6 45 min phone calls to help me to become debt free. I told him I could not afford it after I found out that it was a fee to have a phone tutor. But he assured me that it would be no problem for me to pay for it and I would likely have gotten my bills in order and had extra to pay by the end of the sessions.

Prosper Learning fraudulent representation & product

I agreed to take the training from a fast-talking agent of Prosper Learning on the phone. Before I agreed to it I told him I could not afford it and it was too expensive for my tastes. But he assured me that it would be no problem for me to pay for it and I would likely have earned enough in the lst 8 weeks of training to do so.Based on his assurances I committed to it. After 8 weeks I hardly had a clue to how to do anything with it. He also told me that I had no obligation to pay anything up front at my election and so didn't.He also mentioned that financing was handled by HSBC bank - and he asked me if I knew who they were. I told him they were a major bank in England - without any further comment from him. On completion of the training I was ill-prepared to go into the internet business - and one day thought I would take a look at the company's reputation on Google. Much to my surprise the lst dozen or so websites described the scam that this company truly was.So, made a committment to myself that this company would never see a dime of my money. All the complaints mirrored my experience.
After 6 months had expired I began to receive billings from HSBC for payment. At first it was a business-type request - but later it became a crescendo of calls for money. After about a month I must have been placed on the finance company's rotator calling list because I received on average 7 calls per day - including Sundays.
This continued for 26 weeks. At the end of this period I moved and cancelled my house phone line and haven't heart any more since.
At my new address I have received one letter from a collection agency about how they are going to destroy my credit standing, etc and no further word since. I have not responded to a phone call or letter received in this regard and do not plan to do so. For the readers information - I noticed a pattern to the collection attempts by HSBC and it reminded me of a company from many years ago called Household Finance. I then looked up that name on Google under the website of HSBC - and there they were. I jogged my memory and then recalled that this company had appeared in a court case some 40 or 50 year ago and when the court learned what a dishonest and treacherous financial company this was they immmediately put them out of business on a national scale so that they could no longer gouge and threaten their debtors. Household Finance quickly disappeared from sight but within a short time
they reappeared and announced that they had merged with HSBC of England. HSBC had become the cover for Household Finance. This news was looked on very negatively by the finance and banking industries and indicated surprise that a major English bank would get involved with such hideous merger partners. And so it is today. If anyone would take the time and pay the expense they could likely put Household Finance out of business forever.
Needless to say I plan to pay nothing to these people. I do not trust them - I do not believe them - and I know they are living a lie.
As to my credit rating because of them - I do not care.
By the way I found enough evidence along the way to strongly believe that the man behind Prosper Learning is Robert G. Allen.
He is a national advertised salesman who, according to his ads, has done almost everything that is impossible in sales work with great success. After 40 years in sales and management I do not buy his BS.
I have learned about many of his type over my many years in sales and almost none of them could prove much of anything.
Thanks for taking the time to read my essay.

in business. It has been so ever since. Following thisannouncemenmany financial institutions in the USA expressed a very dim view of this arrangement and indicated surprise that a major English bank would get involved with such garbage. And so it stands today.
I am a retired mortgage banker with many years experience and have seen many dishonest finance companies but none as bad as this one. I received one collection letter from them wherein they would discount the balance 50% but I would have to agree to refrain from saying anything disparaging about them. I laughed all the way to the waste basket/

Prosper Learning FRAUDULENT SALES TACTICS

10/27/08

Attention Devin Willis:

I am writing you in regards to the home study course I was sold back in February of 2008 by Joe Ferrazzano. The course is Prosper Learning Center’s, Ecommerce Success System.
When the system was explained to me by Mr. Ferrazzano, I had explained to him that I did not have much time to work each week due to my full time job and I also had no computer experience. Following this statement I was assured that I would need no computer experience and only ten to fifteen hours a week to work the course successfully.

I feel that the course was not properly presented to me in the fact that when I had started my coaching sessions I had to come up with a niche business concept. I have done custom boat canvas for the last 22 years and know nothing about anything else! Now by the time a student finds this out, they are already fully committed to the cost of the course as the three day grace period to cancel is long gone! This eventually led to having to be a blogger, which I have never been any good at writing nor have enough knowledge in any one subject to write about. Again, could have used this information up front! I was given the php list program by my coach, when I asked if I had troubles learning it if I would be able to turn to the success center for help, I was told that they don’t know that program. Having to figure out computer programs given to me by my coach, out on my own, was not part of the deal. I have spent up to fifteen hours in a week just trying to understand and have not begun to understand how to use it or what it does. Not to mention reading site html codes.

I would spend 7or 8 hours developing my front pages and another 3 or 4 hours trying to add a submit form to them given to me by my coach, in a format that would not plug into the pages html. I then had to put all the front pages in another format with a whole different submit form. What a waste of time and 2 coaching sessions!

At times I had my brother in law, who is a programmer for Comcast cable, over trying to help me and he agrees that I should have had been told I needed computer experience. The President of our local little league, who is the nation wide programmer for Bank of America, agrees that I should have been told I need computer experience.

I really did try to work the course and was excited to start it, I’m sure my coach would back that up. That quickly led to processes am not capable of understanding, which has led to depression and frustration.

If ANY of this was explained to me by Mr. Ferrazzano I would never have even thought about a contract for $100.00 let alone close to $8, 000.00. As I understand this is a Robert Allen course, and it is my opinion that it should have been explained in its entirety, meaning that all aspects should be given at the time sale so people can make a rational decision based on their skills. Especially when someone like me was trying to express that they might have trouble trying to understand certain things that the course might involve. With Robert Allen’s reputation I would expect a little more than a lack of information.
If I am the only one who was deceived by this type of sales tactic, maybe I deserve to have to pay the money for the course, but I have a feeling that I am not the only one who has had this problem.

In light of this information I am asking to be relieved of my financial obligation as I was told by Mr. Ferrazzano there was a money back guarantee. I am willing to ship all materials sent to me back to the proper address. I also need to know how I can go about getting the refund processed.

Now I believe that I have the right and obligation to tell my story as it has happened, without deception, exaggeration, or slander to Prosper Inc., to any media or public forum. People should be warned that this type of sales tactic is being used and they are not receiving enough information to make a rational or INFORMED decision when dealing with the Prosper learning center’s sales personnel. This might even be a good subject and story to learn to blog with. I do not want to have to go to such lengths, but will if pushed!

If I remember correctly my sales conversation with Mr. Ferrazzano was being recorded for quality control. I am requesting a copy of that recording for my records. I would hope that if you are sincerely trying to be of better service to your students as the article in rip-off claims this request should be no problem.

How the scam works:

Prosper obtains contracts from various vendors (Real Estate Investing, E-Commerce, Stock Market Investing, Entrepreneurship & Personal Finance) for the right to sell their educational products. They also let the vendors know that they will be contacting buyers and present them with their own coaching program.

After you purchase the vendors information, Prosper contacts you, not as Prosper Learning, but as that vendor's success team. They then state that they are looking for a few select motivated individuals to obtain success stories. The wording is stated in such a way that it infers that the program will be free.

When you talk to them, they will constantly refer back to the vendor and implying that they will coach you on the methods you have just purchased.

If you are impressed with the vendors information, it is a simple matter of just continuing to let you know that they are an educational provider for that vendor. That infers that they will be teaching you that program.

At this point, your guard is down. The promises are made and the transaction takes place.

After agreeing to thousands of dollars and going through the so-called mentoring program, you find out that it did not even cover one-tenth of the information contained in the vendor's product that probably cost less than $100.

The coaches/mentors are merely trainers that stick to the pitiful training manual supplied to you and will not go off topic. They are only interested in how well you understood the basic information that comes from the training manual.
They will not give you any advice or review any of your work.

This type of sales tactic is fraudulent and is covered under Section 5 of the FTC Act – "Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices". The FTC's legal branch has the authority to rescind a contract.

We will all need to file a complaint for the FTC to take action. Please pass this information on to as many websites as possible.

PROSPER LEARNING SCAM

You are most likely reading this because you have:

1. Been approached by Prosper Learning
2. Ran across it searching the web
3. Just signed up and learned the name of Prosper Learning
4. You’ve been burned by Prosper Learning

It’s a real shame that Prosper Learning doesn’t read some of the educational material that they are selling. But I guess they’re too busy scamming people using a bait and switch approach to obtain your hard earned money and credit. They spend a majority of their efforts conning people into sign binding contracts and then work hard at not giving any money back. Successful and honest businesses don’t need to do this!

You are basically paying for someone to read a book to you and using a net meeting type of website to show you how to click through the websites contained in the book. If you already know or have experience in the subject matter, you won’t learn much and the coaching or mentoring is non-existent. If you are new to the subject, I won’t recommend it if it were free because you will be lead in the wrong direction and have the chance to lose more money.

By the way, their 100% satisfaction guarantee is to give you another coach to read the book to you again – don’t expect anything new.
=============================
**If you ran across this or were contacted by them, go elsewhere or you risk wasting a year or more of your life on a program that doesn’t deliver.

**If you just signed up cancel immediately and do some further research, you can always go back if you’re still interested.

E-Commerce:
The following website does an 8 week comparison of Prosper Learning and Wealthy Affiliates

E-Bay:
E-bay already has an educational learning center

Stock Market:
Not sure if this site is good or not, but they tell you what you get and you pay by month.

=============================

If you are unfortunate to have already signed up for this, you have the option of paying this off or trying to fight it. If you are signed up through HSBC, just be aware that they are probably the worst credit card company to deal with based on the internet complaints. I got more sympathy from the credit collections department than the customer service department, it’s almost as though they’re 2 different companies.

If you do decide to fight it, whether as a matter of principle or because of your economic situation (take notes on everything):

1. Save a copy of the original contact email

2. Contact the owner of the original purchase you made to see what relationship they have with Prosper Learning and if they authorized Prosper Learning to use their name in an effort to infer that they would coach based on the information from their ebook.

3. Dispute the credit card charges based on seller failed to deliver the goods as promised – Prosper Learning will probably contact you on the 1st dispute and maintain contact while they file the necessary paperwork with the Finance Company.

4. Prepare the paperwork and documentation to re-initiate the dispute – you will have about 30 days from the first dispute. Depending on what kind of proof that you obtain, you may want to request a chargeback for the amount you have already paid.

5. Once the 1st dispute is removed, reinitiate the dispute again with all of the documentation.

Quality of goods and services or Right to withhold payment

This was a service contract, therefore “a copy of the credit slip or a copy of the UPS tracking slip and/or tracking #, DHL, Airborne, FedEx, or a postal receipt” is not applicable

6. If you have HSBC you can fax the documentation to [protected] Attention Dispute

7. During the 2nd dispute, HBC will probably turn this over to their collections department. If you get called while in the dispute process, make a note of it and let them know that it is in dispute – expect this call at least once a month.

8. Eventually you may end up in court with HSBC

I was sold a John Cummata "Get out of debt" package complete with personal coaching for $14, 700. I am suing them in small claims court but have to go to Utah to do it. They make phone calls and talk you into buying their packages and have no registered agent in your state. They offer no refunds for their fraudulent training and if you want your money back, well then you can fly to Utah and fight them in court!

Thanks for all the comments. Prosper Learning called my husband today after he had ordered a DVD by Joe.
The sales person told him that they are looking to make a movie about the success stories of people that have used the principles from the DVD. They will provide a personal coach and wanted to know all about our finances, etc. While my husband was on the phone, I was very concerned about who he was sharing all this information with. He got off the phone I told him it was probably spend $10K so we can "help" you become successful. My husband then went on his computer and immediately saw all the information about scams. I just did a search myself and your website was the first thing I found.
I'm so glad you are sharing all your stories to prevent others from signing up with them. Some organization or law enforcement should deal with Prosper Learning.

I too got suckered by them, they told me, we would use a " beat the bank system" use my line of creadit for $1000, and be able to pay it of in 30 days, then they said they would front me an extra $2, 000.. I would have to pay them almost $200 a month.. When my " coach" alled, he told me the same stuff I already knew.. Sell on e-bay, become an affiliate for sites like amazon.com ... He only spent maybe 10 minutes on the phone.. Then he had other people to call me wanting me to invest more money for tax purposes... Now Modgomery is calling me, threatening to send me to collections, or law suits against me, and keep throwing that" The have a a+ in BBB" Crap at me... How do I get out? If anyone knows let me know.. I spoke with my bank, told them about it, and asked them to decline any payments towards them... I'm finally getting my credit good, I don't need this to mess me up, I'm still having to pay my credit card bill... If anyone has any info or a lawsuit against them please let me know... k_hersey@hotmail.com

NEVER trust a company or program that asks for money! It's that simple. That's all you need to know to know they are not legitimate. Believe me, i know, i've been looking for a legitimate company for years. They don't exist! It plain and simple...Disappointing, yes but none the less, THEY DON"T EXIST! And even if you find something that is BBB certified...doesn't matter, it means nothing. Best way i've found so far to find out if a company or program is legit, is by googling it and finding reviews. Oh and Robert Allen is the worst out of all of them.

You people really need to look at reviews for different programs to be found in Google. A company or program that is BBB certified doesn't necessarily mean it's legit. The first sign you look for is if the company/program you found is asking you for money. If so, more then likely, they are not legitimate. If you were to Google Robert Allen's name, you will find all kinds of reviews showing he or his company is not remotely legitimate. Don't ever take a representative's word for anything but most especially if they are asking you to pay a fee.

I'm sorry for your losses. I'm a current employee.
There are some students that do not succeed. And most of them do receive their money back. I'm sorry to say some do not. If I were the owner, all unhappy students would receive a full and timely refund Plus something extra as an apology.
If it's possible to have a straight forward conversation for a moment, without all the emotion, maybe the truth will come out and I can be of help.
Is prosper a "For Profit" company? YES. Are the coaches good at what they do? YES. (I've taken several courses - all were exceptional) Are the majority of students satisfied with their coaching? YES. Prosper graduates about 84% of their students each year and those students give their coaching a positive score. They are happy with their outcome. But that leaves 16%. And that's a big number. (About 1100 per year)
But you have compare that with other educational organizations. Most colleges do not graduate more than 60% of their students. And a large number that do graduate, never use the education they paid for and never get a job in the field they studied. Does that mean the college is to blame for not getting their investment back? Should they demand their tuition be returned?
Nevertheless, prosper will work with you, in spite of some false comments here (I'm not saying ALL are false, but it sure is strange that so many hide behind fake names. Could many of them be "Coaching Competitors" parading as fake Prosper students?) The few REAL names that do exist on the internet, I've looked up, and ALL have received a refund. It's curious why these FEW real Prosper former students don't want to tell the whole story and let the public know they received money back. And that Prosper, in the end, was MORE then fair. So why the silence?
So, in the end, 84% are happy. That's a good number...better then Yale or Harvard. 16% are not. That's a bad number...but still better then most colleges. That doesn't excuse it. We need to improve until we get close to 100%. (And by the way, many, if not most of these are like the college drop outs...they quit on the coaches. Yes, there's a few that tried and just didn't make it. Those are the ones that get a refund quickly. The cases that take some time to resolve usually involve some missed sessions or homework not done, etc., on the part of the student. If there is EVER a problem with a coach, Prosper quickly resolves that one in the students favor. And I can tell you, that is RARE.)
So, how can I help? Well, as an insider, I can give you the secrets of quick refunds...but it's 1am and that post will take me 30 minutes to write, so I'll have to see if I can do that tomorrow...

OK... I guess it was not Devon Walker I talked to. It should be Devin Willis Director of Student Relations.

I got off the phone with Devon Walker again today and realized that all they care is how to get my money. I signed up for the personal development coaching. Needless to say just like everyone else here it was not very useful. The coaches are not trained in this area and they didn't really want to know me and help me. They want to feel good about themselves talking to me and hang up the phone as soon as they can. What I learned from them was less than what I learned from reading a good book for 4 hours. They charged me $10, 900 for that! I contact them several times expressing my concerns. They eventually agreed to refund me $3500. They said it will be put back to my credit card in 10 business days. But one month passed, I called and called and never see the money. Every time we talked they'd say they sent me a check on a certain day or someone will for sure put the money back to my credit card. But none happened! I'm now sure that they don't care about their clients. All they care is getting our money.

That said, all of us who complained here should not stop at venting. We should do something about it. Possibly together. Here is what I did and will do.

I called my credit card company today to ask for a charge back under fraudulent business activities. I will try to find out Prosper's merchant bank and contact them to report their business performance. I filed a complaint on the FTC site give above https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en. I send an email to all the people who left their emails and express my interest in joining them for a class action law suit. We can unite together to bring them down. Not just to get our money back but also help other people who really need help NOT wasting time and energy with such a bad business.

I was sold an education program over the phone by Prosper Learning that encouraged me to max out my credit card, and then use their finance company to fund the rest of the over $8000 course. The understanding was that I would have an income generating web business that would fund my debt. After 12 months I am still in debt. I have not made a cent from...
