Prisontalk.com used to be a supportive website for all who were family or friends with inmates or those about to be inmates. They ask for donations to keep the site running, and many have donated including myself.in the past couple of years they have recruited many new "moderators", many of whom have let this sense of some kind of authority go to their stupid little heads. If you read across their site, you will see many members with the word "banned" underneath their user names. Most of these people did nothing morally, legally, or in any usual way, wrong. Evidently pto has a problem of wanting to be the only prison forum on the web. People were banned just for being members of another prison website (which pto fraudulently obtained the url for... And got the names of all the people who were members of both sites). Though it is listed in their policy that once you are a member of their website you cannot solicit anyone to go to any other website... Its sheer #. I have the freedom to go anywhere, and invite anywhere.. Anyone I want. So screw you pto... Who really gives a # that you banned people., your site sucks now anyway. What we do give a # about is freedom (which the creator being an ex inmate himself should understand), and the immature message those banned got. (which we have all saved in case we need to use it). If you need support because a loved one is in prison or may go, pick another website not prisontalk.com. And dont advertise with them,

This makes me so sad ..I was VERY active on that site from around 2009- till about 2012 and also jpay forum, met one of my closest friends thru that support group. I helped so many people win appeals for visitation after I documented my journey on getting denied then ultimately getting approved. I remember everyone had their timer widget counting down the days till their loved ones got out...i loved those! It was a good community with Lots of good resources in 1 place and it was so helpful being able to ask people who been thru it or currently dealing with all the crap that we deal with as families of incarcerated people. Getting helpful tips and the support that other people are dealing with the same stuff...I guess I was part of its glory days, except I do remember a few vets that were so negative about my visiting posts and appeals and if felt good posting I had finally got approved. Lol of course they were silent then.

Where do you go to now? From what I can see, PTO closed down.

Please check out justicetalk.org, which is an attempt to broaden the category to justice-impacted individuals and their families. Managed by a law student. Really looking to attract engagement and a community looking for fellowship, compassion and mutual respect.

It is not appropriate to blame the founder of PTO, any of the staff or any of the policies enforced as to its downfall. PTO went from being an oasis in the desert in the beginning to becoming a bus stop along the way that people took for granted. PTO was an online COMMUNITY whose primary purpose was to provide SUPPORT AND INFORMATION. It was not a website established for the sake of being a free for all where many people were more concerned with solicitation of a business, trolling other members for the sake of hooking up and those with a militant attitude that were about DOWN WITH THE ESTABLISHMENT.
In the beginning, PTO was a loving community of people who cared for one another in the face of the hardships that the prison experience is known for creating. With time, it became less than that and simply lost it's way. When the issues to be resolved or faced in prison became something in the eyes of the general public as being popular, hip and chic to be a part of things change for the worse.
Those of you that speak badly of PTO have one thing in common you didn't come there to offer something or add to the lives of others who needed, you came there because you thought something was owed to you. You came there because you only wanted information and nothing else. You didn't add to anything, you took what you wanted and then left when there was nothing of interest to you. You didn't care and that's PTO fell apart. It fell apart because the members in the beginning were not the same as the members at it's end.

Does the site even exist anymore? Ive been a member since 2004 and I may go on once a year. Back in 04 it was awesome the. Some of the original mods got sick or passed away. It started going downhill fast.

I was a member of PTO for over a decade, but only actually active for a short time. The problems on this site go back a long long time. I was actually chosen as a site researcher or something, my name was yellow for a while. I had no power to ban or block or move anyones posts, but I was still expected to behave like a member of the staff. The site was not secure as I discovered my personal information, face and threats online on another site that linked back to posts I made on that site. The site had moderators who were good, and some who were awful. I wound up banned because I told them I was tired of being a cop without a gun. Supposed to report site violations but I couldn't do anything about it. I made a few comments about how stupid the upper level members there were, and bam I was gone. About 10 years later I made a new name on a different computer and totally different IP address. I wouldn't interact with anyone, I simply posted a few new threads, a few things here and there, and that was it. Then the site has been down pretty much since January. I doubt that it's coming back.

I feel like prisontalk was home to such a huge amount of helpful information and support for people with incarcerated loved ones. It's unfortunate about these issues with moderators and as someone else pointed out recently in 2021 they seem to be offline completely. Where else can you go for support? Are there other sites like this?

That's really sad because about 11-14 years ago I had a bf in prison and it was very helpful. I went to look up something for a friend and the site is not working for at least the past few weeks.

I stumbled across the site by accident, didn’t do my research on it and lasted a week. I didn’t get banned, I jumped before I was pushed. Threads moved, deleted, posts edited … It’s probably why the site resembles a dead man walking. Although it attracts new members on a near daily basis, few post anything and if you look at the ‘Introductions’ thread, the average is a post count of two or three before they stop posting. Good for trivia information about prison visiting times and the like, but useless for any kind of serious discussion about the prison system, law or personal narratives. Simply a waste of your time joining.

I was SHOCKED by the nastiness of both the members and a moderator. This site should be a source of support to prison families! The women here were particularly vicious and like to gang up on newcomers. They act like thugs! (I left my own review here and on sitejabber) DISGUSTING!

I have been on that site for a very long time and I would pop in here and there. Today, I am over it. After rigorously searching for the option to close the account, I googled and stumbled upon this site. Prison Talk is cult-like, immature and downright ridiculous. They actually sound like they are owned and operated by the government. I also discovered that you cannot delete a post or comment, only they can if they don't like it. The helpdesk doesn't work, and like most have commented before me, the admins harass and stalk you. I have had countless comments removed for ridiculous reasons that of course are sent via a read-only message. You cannot respond to them. I had been wondering why users got the 'banned' title and was tempted to make a post asking...glad I didn't. They are worse than a bad movie smh. There are several questionable profiles that have definitely raised eyebrows. But no one will speak up. Absolute insanity. I despise that site and feel bad that peoples personal information is stuck within the confines of that internet prison.

Man this is so true. I just got banned because I mentioned that I once had another account years ago and the Admin immediately wrote me and said that I had to provide the email that I used. Im like I dont even remember that was in 2008 and am no longer using that email nor associated with that account and because I wouldn't "divulge" that information, I was blocked. Im like wow how unprofessional. And a total breach of my privacy. I don't have to give you any email not associated with my current account thats insane. And the women on there are like a part of a cult. Dont insult or disagree with them or they will rip you up, I told one lady she was on her high horse and I think thats why I was really banned.

There is a poster on that website who uses the screen name "yourself." This person claims to be an attorney. She is not an attorney. Some of the things that she writes about the law are not only wrong, they are absurd. Call me old-fashioned but I believe that if you claim to be an attorney, others ought to be able to verify those claims. "Yourself" is unwilling to identify herself. If you point out on the PTO forum that others should be leery of accepting the legal opinions of an online "attorney" who is not willing to identify herself, PTO will ban you for "inciting" others.

I'm finding this out too, I keep getting my comments deleted or moved and I can't put helpful links in. There's a moderator named Sass1 who thinks everything I do is either delete or move worthy. I posted in the legislation section for fighting a law that is unconstitutional and shehe moved it to prison petitions. What? This is not what I remember from past years. It feels so cold and uncaring now.

Hi my name is jerrian lawrimore, and i agree, i just got banned today, because i was trying to put two moderators on my ingnore list. They deleted a couple of comments i made in response to other peoples issues i responded. These useless moderators, always delete my comments on when it seems as if i have a brain or have smarts in a situation a person needs help on. I respond to issues that i can relate to with other people, that i have experience in first hand. But every time i speak my mind, these moderator "jive turkey, s" always say i don't know what i'm talking about or bully me. Because apparently they act like they the only ones who can have smarts in a situation, and i can't. Then one of the moderators named patchouli she followed me on everything i commented on and always had something negative to say, every one else can voice they're opinion and she never picked with, no matter what time or what response i gave to a person needing help, she always will pick on me, so i told her to stop bullying me and saying negative things towards me. . And that i wasn't going to feed into her negativity and respond back. . So she sent me a private message i never read, and left me alone for about a week until two days ago, when a woman wrote about her comment getting banded and i told her she's not alone and the do me the same way, 30 minutes later, patchouli erased my comment and sent me another private message complaining because i told the truth, and now im banned from the sight until july 23, 2015. I'm glad i never donated, i wouldn't give a brown cent to them, the way they treated me, i will take my money where it's appreciated. . They need should imprison themselves for not providing equality for each individuals freedom of speech. . So i just wanted to let folks know don't put your hopes into prison talk. . Because these moderators will not value your freedom of speech or knowledge of any given topic that you respond to that answer is truthful or better than theirs, because they will erase every word you say. . .

if your noticing above, a lady reach us and said she was banned from prison talk website earlier. some 1 reach us about this ban by dani, whoever this is, was able to find us thru facebook referral, we are looking into it, through our investigatory team, and she want to sue, for unfair practice, and how the owner fed-x, she will first try to resolve, she has no clue who is dan, or dani, and ask our team of legal researcher, investigation dept.to look into it, we sure will be reaching the owner, asap for her, and your able to see the people who are allege moderators, utilize their power, the hacks, hicks they are to express such immature i.e. bye dani, bye, ban again, yet such person was never whoever they are saying and yet, has ban, after she i think even donate, that is being looked it, and glad more are speaking out, but the lawsuit once file will make the owner a ex con, circumvent such illegality;change, his ways before he is put out of business.
meanwhile, join other sites! start your own prison forum, not hard, they are not the best and most see this, so that is a great thing, be sure to keep all complaints, even copy to paste post, etc.and file a class action suit, for such violations, that will definitely also force the owner FED-X, to turn over ALL mods name information definitely, see?until a suit, is filed, such will continue.Hence take ACTION, and contact us anytime, from geena.

I think your to just simply keep up with peaking in at times, get the complaint(s)going and keep em going, start a class-action suit, trust me this will shut them down at once, even if it take a year or 2 well worth it, the owner is a EX-CON, need i say more, as others?the bottom line is do what your doing, keep speaking out, but really nothing happen until your actually file a fed.lawsuit against owner fed-x, the crook owner, at prisontalkonline aka prison talk website, are bias, and if your noticing very jealous of attractive, men in a girlfriend avie, or vice versa, and bias discriminatory practices, Your right, the owner of prison talk fed-x the ex con himself, is allowing such and should be sued, and shall be i believe soon enough. to ask for money, on your site to keep it up and running SUPPOSEDLY, but yet your banning the same persons contributing is a crime, without providing such service, is a crime, at least sue him and the more who do is better! good luck all.

I was banned from PTO after one day and after making about 8 posts to various threads. None of the posts I made would warrant having me banned from a website. I found out I was banned when I tried to sign in. After signing in, a screen popped up and said:

"Banned. You are slick but you are not THAT slick. Ban will be lifted: Never."

Needless to say, I'm not at all sure why I was banned. C'est la vie.

After being a member of this website for awhile, and donating...being that the creator was an ex con himself, who supposedly cared about a support system for family members off those incarcerated and should know the value of FREEDOM...freedom to help people by posting links to helpful sites besides that one, freedom to not have your private messages read...I decided to remove myself from this site and any other in the future that will not allow me my own personal freedoms. What they immaturely did to good, responsible, mature people who helped keep that site running with donations is a crime. I agree, find another support website to join, do not advertise with them, and always read the fine print on any website before you become a member or join.

I totally agree. I just got banned because one of the moderators made a comment about my sex life which I posted nothing about in a public forum and I guess she got mad because I let her know that I was offended and she wanted to argue. The only argument she had was that she was an administrator smh

I agree, I can remember when the site seemed supportive, but now its full of a bunch of childish post about baby's momma, and family member drama. I personally hope they shut the site down, I know they use to have a "loving a sex offender" part that finally got taken away because the loved ones were basically commenting about how to hide kiddie porn, discussing you should and shouldn't do on your computer, etc. I know several people reported copied and pasted the information and sent it to their local police department. I think several agencies are on the site monitoring and I do hope each and every one of them get caught slipping! Just like anything else, get something started for a good reason and people will ruin it.

Nobody talked about how to hide kiddie porn and that section of the site was not removed. It was only visible to a member actively logged in. So to someone browsing the forum as a non member that section would not show up.
