This supposedly non profit puppy mill is a disgusting farm with caged puppies in low conditions. My puppy had a severe UTI the day I brought her home, she was pissing on herself and in my car the whole way home, after taking her to the vet, a few weeks later she became ill with very swollen and red eyes, so bad the Dr thought she could go blind or even die, without getting bloodwork done there wouldn't be a solid answer unless the eyes improved within 24hrs. I contacted the woman I purchased her from and she demanded that I bring her back to her H1N1 flu infected home. I declined and demanded a full refund for the dog and she said that if I didnt bring her back to her home she would block my number. I have not heard from her since. Please do not adopt pets from this person unless you want to spend thousands of dollars in hospital bills.

Melissa Yost Candow us psychopath, con-artist, nightmare, who lives to exploit animals for profit + feed her own ego. She should be in jail or a mental facility & absolutely should not be allowed to have anything to do with animals of any kind, let alone run a (fake) rescue. Don't just walk away from any involvement with her, run!

In addition to my above post, let me add this...

In case if a court defines that a consumer complaint constitutes libel or defamation, the mentioned consumer would be held legally responsible for damages to the reputation of the business, mentioned in complaint. Under federal law (the Communications Decency Act) ComplaintsBoard.com is not legally responsible for the complaints that are posted, even if those complaints contain remarks that are defamatory. I am the owner/operator of Prancing Paws k9 Rescue, I have never been located in Ocala Fl. I was a home based rescue for over 20 years specializing in senior canines with special needs mostly. My last location of foster and adoptions was Ocoee Fl in 6/2017. I believe the complaint needs to be corrected to the appropriate rescue, and that information should be on the adoption paperwork. As you can see above, that rescue has posted, yet the rescue name has not been corrected. Prancing Paws k9 Rescue has never had a complaint and has always taken pride in that fact. If anyone has questions about me or MY rescue "Prancing Paws k9 Rescue" you may email me at PrancingPaws4u@aol.com

My daughter and I drove nearly 2 hours last Friday to go meet Melissa and see her ranch because of all the positive feed back and recommendations made on this complaint board. I was not disappointed. It was clear from the moment we parked that Melissa’s priority is taking care of these puppies. All of them were well cared for and all cages were clean. She was training a new girl and even interrupted our conversation to go show her or explain something in detail about what she needed to do to make sure the grounds were properly kept clean. We adopted a beautiful, sweet, playful puppy and we couldn’t be happier! She had her first vet visit today and other than needing another round of deworming treatment (which Melissa had already told me about and started herself when the puppy arrived to her ranch), she is in perfect health. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to adopt a puppy, it was definitely worth the 2 hour drive 😊

We had been searching petfinder for awhile for a puppy who would be trained as a light mobility service dog. We came across prancing paws when saw a post for larger breed puppy who was labeled as a good potential service dog. We called Melissa to get information on that puppy but she had already been adopted. Melissa told us of others who could potentially meet our needs but they were not ready yet. Not ready yet meant being dewormed and big/old enough for adoption. When ready date came, we drove from Saint Cloud to Ocala (about 2 hours for us). Despite having well water/hose issues in the morning, the water problem was being fixed by the time we got there (afternoon). Judging by the few hours of no hose water, you can tell the kennels are kept super clean because any potty mess was minimal. It takes a LOT of care and work to keep kennels that clean. Which means they were doing an amazing job of cleaning inspite of the water problem. All the kennels had plenty of food and water as well as a shelter. Kennels were not overcrowded. All the puppies were clean and healthy looking. No fleas or ticks either. Melissa knew about our service dog needs and was open and honest about which puppy breed would be a good fit. We found a puppy who will be the right size for us (large) and he actually chose us! He saw the vet today (3 days after adoption) and he is completely healthy. The vet and staff commented about how well he looked and his good behavior and said this rescue is “impressive” because of it. You can tell the rescue actually spends time with them because he (and all the other puppies) are sweet, social and well cared for. Our puppers is amazing! It was love at first sight between him and the humans. Doxie Triplet dog siblings at home are brooding by not giving the humans kisses as a protest. They are slowly getting use to the new fur baby. At 8 weeks old, our baby Baxter is on his way to become an amazing service dog and much loved member of our family. We are so happy we found Melissa. She puts her heart into this rescue and is doing an outstanding job!

I just adopted a puppy from here. Melissa's home was super clean, as were the outdoor kennels. She is a lovely down to earth woman who loves animals and treats all of them well. I wanted to adopt a puppy that would be sweet and fit into our family well. Melissa was very helpful and patient in showing us their personalities and what we should be looking for. We took our new puppy to the vet on his second day home and he has no health problems.

To the original poster- Our vet mentioned that there is a dog flu going around and that he couldn't receive his vaccine for another 4 weeks. If this is what your pup contracted it is no fault of this rescue.

I just recently went and visited this rescue, I was very hesitant at first due to the ONE bad review I seen, but I never judge a book by it's cover so I had to find out for myself. I live in Orlando so it was about an hour drive to the ranch. Which is based in Ocala, FL. Upon arrival I was greeted with much kindness and walked to the ranch in the back. Must I say GORGEOUS land. 10 acres of beauty, all of the kennels were clean and nowhere near "disgusting" all of the puppies were flea free and well kept. Each one excited and happy to meet me, Melissa (owner of the ranch) also has horses on the property and even they were nice and healthy, perfect weight, hooves well kept, etc. This is a splendid ranch and I would honestly disregard the negative review and just visit and find out for yourself, I have never been to such a splendid rescue. Melissa really outdoes herself and everything she does for these animals, not one will falter in her care. Her S.N.A.P. program is awesome as well. It's sad to see pups on the streets these days due to an overwhelming pet population and her program helps those who can not afford to nueter/spay their dogs. That way she can reduce accidental litters, people who donate their entire litter of pups will have their adult dogs spayed/nuetered FREE! we really need more people like her out here in this world and I fully support this rescue and everything they do. I got the sweetest little black lab puppy from her, she had 100% health when I took her to the vet for an exam 3 days after adoption. Melissa guaranteed if she had any major health issues I would have my adoption fee fully refunded, but there was no need. Thank you for everything you do Melissa!

I went to this ranch a little over 3 weeks ago and go me an adorable female puppy, who I took to my vet SAME week and was told she was in perfect health! I wanted a puppy for my son but have allgeries and the owner of the establishment helped me pick the right one that would fit with me and my family. I did not see anything that was “disgusting” on the ranch, otherwise my allgeries would have been killing me AND I wouldn’t have gotten my puppy there. The owners home was being disinfectant with bleach (which is totally understandable when having pets) and the ones that was walking around were happily playing with my sons as I was inside the home. I was instructed to get the puppy checked within 72 hours and if anything was found wrong, she would take my puppy back and refund me. I knew what shots my puppy had and when was she due for her next shot. I also was advised to get her fixed as is part of the contract(I like because means no unwanted puppies). I was also told if anything can contact them and so far my family and I are in love with our healthy happy baby girl! If people follow EXACTLY what the owner of this organization said, I’m sure there be no trouble. As I said, I have BAD allgeries and for the ranch to have horses and dogs; I came home ok and mind you she (owner) was a bit concern for me due to I have asthma. I followed what she said and my vet loves my Precious and said she is in good health. I would recommend this place as the owner is up front and willing to help but doesn’t push on one to adopt..a plus for me! I hope my pup pic went through and so glad she is part of my family

I adopted my pup Boss aka"Rosco" from Prancing Paws K9 Rescue in 2016. Since then I've gotten to know Melissa Candow who is the owner of the rescue. The above review makes absolutely no sense! #1 There are no cages . Only clean Kennels that you could pretty much eat off the floor because Melissa is OCD and constantly cleaning. #2 I know how passionate she is about placing these dogs in there forever homes, and keeping them out of pounds. So, to say she would block your number, is a lie!

This rescue provides a great service spaying mama's and putting their puppies in good homes. Their mission is to end the cycle of dogs being tossed around to multiple homes and keeping them safe. If you're an animal lover like me, I highly recommend going and seeing this place for yourself!

I am the owner of This ranch and I am about to post photos that were taken today of my (disgusting) farm . Please note she stated she took her puppy to the vet THREE weeks later and yes I had H1N1 flu when she was trying to stress me over this so I responded with I would return her adoption fee all vet bills and care she's done on the puppy but she was to return the puppy as I was sure there was nothing wrong with her puppy but she had no vet records to produce . All puppies in that litter came back parasite free (which take in mind . So did hers) . All the puppies are happy and healthy in their homes. We go above and beyond giving the best care and making sure the area and the ranch in manicured and sanitized . The sister ranch in Ocala that she is speaking of is called Starting Over Animal refuge inc and can be viewed on www.greatnonprofits.org with over 200 excellent reviews and has been operating for over 15years started and trained by Prancing paws k-9 rescue . She has no validation on her allegations /complaint . I'll try to post photos for those concerned . We are also not a puppy mill we have no unaltered adults here and only have a small pack of 6 adult dogs here . 2 in which are seniors and dying of cancer . We specialize in puppies due to hurricane damage destroying our adult rescue yards and due to life's traumas and losses I have chose to just continue with our SNAP program where if you surrender your entire litter we spay the parents for FREE! This stops the cycle of unwanted puppies with that generation and allows them to never land on the streets or in kill shelters. Win win . I am not sure if it's allowing me to post photos so please view my Facebook with several photos at Melissa Candow . I apologize for this clients behavior and I only blocked her long enough to get through a deathly ill virus I was fighting . It's been 3 weeks since I have been sick and my 3 yr old never even contacted the virus so my family and friends that helped take care of my home and ranch were really thorough at disinfecting everything . We hope to see you soon at the ranch and if you snapshot this complaint I will be more then happy to give you $10 off your adoption fee for the inconvenience and caution her complaint may have caused .

We texted Melissa for the location. Be patient as she runs this rescue with minimal assistance and is spending time taking care of her puppies and horses and can't always text back immediately
