A Man unleashed a "brutal" attack on a neighbour who had asked two women he was with to be quiet, a court heard. Carmelo Zambrano, aged 54, attacked Raymond Eldridge, aged 53, after he told the women to keep the noise down outside his home.

Bristol Crown Court heard the victim suffered multiple injuries after being kicked in the stomach, head and chest.

Mr Eldridge's injuries included him being put into a coma, cuts and bruises, loosened teeth, fractures to his eye socket and cheek and bruising to his brain.

Following the attack the security guard said he had to be escorted everywhere, his relationships had suffered and he felt housebound.

Zambrano, of Tewther Road, Hartcliffe, plead ed guilty to causing grievous bodily harm in July 2004.

Deferring sentence until December 15, Judge John Foley made conditions that Zambrano should stay out of trouble, receive treatment for medical difficulties and demonstrate remorse by depositing £2, 000 for the victim.

The judge told him: "I mak&^$!^@erfectly clear that, in breach, you are facing a custodial sentence."

William Hunter, prosecuting, said Mr Eldridge was having a barbecue at his home and though he had drunk two lagers he was not drunk.

He told the court that, a few houses away, there was a domestic argument with swearing and shouting and later Zambrano walked past Mr Eldridge's home with two women. The court heard that Mr Eldridge tackled the women about noise and then trouble flared.

Mr Hunter said: "The defendant believed the victim had been abusive towards him. The defendant beckoned to Mr Eldridge, trying to get him to fight, and then struck him in the face."

The court heard that Mr Eldridge put his arms up but dropped to his knees before Zambrano kicked him to his stomach, head and chest.

Mr Hunter said: "A neighbour described what happened as a totally unprovoked and brutal, vicious attack.

"He said the victim was a gentle, placid man who wouldn't hurt anyone."

Charles Row, defending, said the incident was utterly and completely out of character for his client.

He said it was Zambrano's perspective that Mr Eldridge was drunk and came at him.

He said: "It was his understanding that he was being abused."

Mr Row added that his client had done what he could to placate an earlier row in which the women with him had been involved.

He said that his client had previously suffered from a mental condition and after the incident he had sought help for it again.

Mr Row said: "He is truly remorseful, his sleep has been affected, his chest pains have reoccurred and he gets flashbacks of the events that night.

"He regrets what happened which is something he will never ever repeat again.

I have to agree with Mary on this one. The only reason people go into the mile is for the drama. And if that isn't the truth, turn off your chat in the lobby and the drama will be gone. How many people come into that room and say it is better than a soap opera. Mary and I never swear, we never use vulgarity and we never speak other than the truth. Not surprising, he seems to alienate most of his friends in due course. Linda and dodge came to us also, wanted to know how to freeze. Well, my friends Mary doesn't know how. So lets clear that up. Linda started to tell much of Dodge's private ongoings, such as who her pass names were, what she was doing etc. That backfired on Linda when Dodge aligned with hey. But she has Dodge convinced it was us, not her. If Dodge had any brains, she would put two and two together. Linda on the other hand told Mary that Dodge has too much on her so she has to remain friends. Remember, sometimes the truth hurts. As for being kids, it has nothing to do with acting like kids, it is all in fun at the end of the day. This is POGO land, so choose your fun and play.
