We are currently publishing a special edition of our anthology series entitled: 'Voices - A collection of short works.'

We would like to publish your poem 'The Quest for Release' in our new anthology. This anthology is a collection of our better works, and we think your poem would make a nice addition. Your poem will be prominently displayed on its own page in the appropriate chapter. The book will feature approximately 250 poems.

The League of American Poets is dedicated to promoting poetry and helping talented writers establish themselves in the world of literature. To further the growth of poetic expression in the United States, the league has partnered with poets by publishing anthologies and special editions for prolific writers.

Melissa, we have arranged special pricing of only $14.95 + shipping for this unique anthology. Additional copies are further discounted. Hurry, space is limited. If you are interested in obtaining a copy containing your poetry please see the enclosed order form.

*****************

It is now January 2008 and I have yet to receive the books or a response from them regarding the issue. The telephone number they have listed is disconnected and they do not respond via email. This is very frustrating because they took the money as quickly as they could but are not producing what I paid for. I would like to either be refunded or have my books because this is very disappointing to say the least. I have read other complaints and I am not sure how a company like this has apparently ripped people off for years without being prosecuted for it.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello-I'm a new person here. I read everything and I'm sorry you all had these problems. I found this site because I am opening a website, "Best-love-poems.com". I was looking at Poetry America site for ideas. I am not interested in ripping anyone off, I just like to spread love, show poems and give people a chance when I can. The site will be for the writer's because they play an important part in it's development, aside from the classics and og's. (;) ) I hope you all will like my site and will contribute to it. I am open to any ideas or needs you have. The site is not up yet and if you would like to reach me my email is info@coffeewithlove.us . Thank you and take care

I've just gone through the same hell that everyone else on here appears to have gone through. It started in November of last year. I even received several emails from the infamous "Josh" from Support@GreenspringPublishing.com stating that their site was having difficulties and he would call me to discuss my order so I could receive copies of the so-called "Whispers" anthology. I never made a purchase, but did give permission for my poem to be published. I noticed that my emails were no longer showing the pictures of the anthology, so I tried going back to the website. Guess what? Website no longer exists. Now when I go back to it, the page states that the business is closed/out of business and that people will either receive a refund in the mail or on their credit cards. I'm reporting them to any agency and poetry magazine I can fine, including the BBB. The whole experience was humiliating. The poem they said they wanted to publish was written for a dear friend, so of course I told him and my family I was getting published and would have copies for them by Christmas. It's March and I've had to admit that I was scammed. These people are disgusting in how they prey on the joy a poet feels at the thought of being published. I can only hope that these complaints will be heard by someone that has the authority to do something about this "company."

Oh man! I was just looking through old emails and I found the exact same email from a while ago. Except mine was for $19.95! I have recieved emails from pretty much all the websites named! I have not bought any of the books because I wanted to find it on the internet first. And I was just looking for the book, and there is no such thing! Then I found this site! I am so glad I didnt send any money! Its awful that you guys got robbed of yours though! If there is anything I can do to help catch those people, please post on here again and I will try to help!

hmm... this was all very interesting reading. i submitted a poem and received an email saying they were going to print it in "whispers-a collection of short stories" and a link to buy the book, but i didnt luckily. was just waiting for it to come out in borders to get it there instead and couldnt find it on their site and instead found this one. so basically: this is all just a scam and my poem isnt getting published. poop. i was really excited too. i wrote it in high school and my teacher told me i should really try to get it published. oh well. the thing that scares me the most is that my poem (stupidly) is floating around in cyberspace. greeeeaaat.

Here is a letter written by someone who works at the publishing company about the whole situation. I do not know whether I believe him, but I sure hope he is not lying because I too have submitted work and I do not want it used by anyone else:
Hi,

Just so you know, I work for Greenspring publishing. And we have never operated under any other name.

We do not require that you purchase a copy of the book in order to be published in it. Approximately half of the poems in our anthologies are for authors who have not purchased a copy.

When we send an Author's Proof, this does not mean that you will be published in the book, only that we want to publish you.

If you send back your permission for us to publish your poem, then we may choose to use your poem in our upcoming anthology. We will choose the best poems for our anthologies, most poems do not get published.

If you purchase a copy of the anthology which will be featuring your poem, we will only cash your check or charge your credit card if you are actually featured. Paying is not a guarantee to being published.

Our company is Greenspring Publishing, not PoetryAmerica.com, not Poetry.com not White Oak Publishing, we also don't have any sister companies. Most of these companies are now out of business - we are not nor have we every been any of these companies. Please do not confuse us with them. We take pride in our work.

Only the top 5% of all submitted poems are considered for publication, and only the top 2% are actually published.

If you have any questions you can reach us at Support@GreenspringPublishing.com

Sincerely,
Josh

Received the same letter from White Oak press, and I sent in $92.50 for 6 books, 9/3/08. No books. Submitted to BBB, next will be the attorney general then the Bureau of consumer protection. Ever wonder why 95% of these poetry scams are in Maryland? Same people, different names, same phone numbers, but they are disconnected now. But I think I found a new one in MD that is probably their new number.

I AM JUST SO VERY ANGRY THAT I DO NOT NOW REMEMBER WHERE IN AMERICA I SENT MY POETRY. THEY WERE SENT AFTER A FRIEND READ THEM AND SAID THEY WERE TOO GOOD TO KEEP TO MYSELF.
I DO WONDER NOW IF THEY HAVE BEEN PRINTED SOMEWHERE IN AMERICA AND I KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT IT. I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINALS OF COURSE BUT I HAVE LEARNED A LESSON, POST THEM TO MYSELD FIRST TO PROVE THE DATE, HAVE THEM PROTECTED IN MY NAME. I COULD GO ON FOR EVER.

Well, it looks like I was suckered into the scam like everyone else!
I can't believe it, my first scam! If anyone finds out a way that we can get to these guys, please post for all of us who fell for it like idiots. I just wanted to get it published and give as a gift to my parents! I am glad I only ordered one!

I submmited my poem to poetryamerica, and received a authours proof in the mail from white oak press. I didn' send any money, but I included a letter. I told them they could publish my poem, but I was not sending them any money at this time, because I was being aware of scams. It is true that I just began, to publish my work, but my mother didn't raise a fool. I know that a publishing company will send you documents in the mail. That same poem I submited was sent to many poetry contests and publishers, I'm not worried about rights at this moment, I advise other poets to do the same.

I would like to add that I have tried to call the number on the new email but it was after the time that they say to call. I did reach a voice mail tho. I dont know if it will do you any good but it might help you get to someone who can help you weather it is the same people as the last phone number or not. They might be able to give you a number to reach the people who actually took your money or whatever. [protected] Hope this helps.

I recieved the same exact email for 1 of my poems. It is exact word for word but with my name and title to my poem. I never answered it but did think about it until I realized that I never submitted a poem to that website. I just the other day received a new email from the same site but thru White Oaks Press instead of League of American Poets. This email has a different address and phone number on it and its for the same poem as the email I received in Sept. 2007 but for a new anthology called Whispers- A collection of short works. I still have not sent any poems to this site. I have not bought any books from them because of that plus I have not seem any of these books in any book store, library or online store. I don't understand if they are so popular why you can not find any of them anywhere but at their site.
