PNC Financial Services Group overdraft charges

PNC charges incorrect overdraft charges by putting through the largest amount first which is the exact same reason Bank of America had a lawsuit which forced them to refund money to millions of their customers. Not only that. They charged these fees on a Saturday when there system does not process deposits. There was about $700 in ACH deposits that are coming in over the weekend, which if this was a weekday, would have offset the small amount. The account went over by one small amount less than $50 from one transaction, which resulted in 4 overdraft charges.

The cost to them will be I am removing my account with $10, 000 a month in transactions over this $144 fee. The fees and abuse needs to stop.

After charging my purchases, I have $55.00 left in my account. This account is joint with my husband. My husband was not aware of the balance left and took out $103.50 (twice) through ATM machine. This bank allow the money to be taken out after the fact that it only has $55.00 available, and charge me $36.00 on each item that I already purchased totaling $288.00 (6 charges). Now this is an ATM NOT Credit Card as I was aware and representative from bank advised me that it should not let the money go through if there's only $55.00 available. I called the bank and spoke to representative and saw the charges, instead of helping me solve this issue (which I take responsibility getting charge for the money that my husband withdraw), he has the nerve to tell me to watch how I spend my money and that he cannot do anything for me to resolve it. Not one single overdraft charges was placed back in my account. This is OUTRAGEOUS! My husband and I have a checking account (debit card) NOT Credit card...This bank is making way too much money scheming people, advising them that you cannot get the money out of your account if you do not have enough. (oh, and the 4 of those charges are less than $5.00). I am IRATE and very DISSAPPOINTED at this bank.

The first two months with PNC...they denied a mortgage payment on my practice despite over $500K in assets with the bank because they stated the check signature did not match that on record, despite the fact that I had been making that payment monthly for years, formerly with National City and then the past month with PNC. Took a bit to straighten that out and no less than six calls to half a dozen departments to find someone that had a clue how to resolve the issue. A few weeks later, I am in the bank attempting to cash a $200 check from the same account and they will not cash it because they do not have a signature on record in their national database. Really? So first my signature didn't match the one you had on file and after supposedly resolving that issue I don't have a signature on record? Maybe another half dozen calls to get it straightened out again. The comedy of errors just continued for the next few months before I recognized the fragmentation within the bank, the lack of professionalism, the inability to resolve bank issues, and the complete lack of inter-departmental communication. That's all I needed to let me know there is no way I would trust this bank with my personal finances or my the finances of my practice. 15 years with PNC without complaint. Now, several months with BMO Harris, Chase, and Fifth Third without issue. PNC doesn't get another chance, however...horrible bank.

if you went over, even by a small amount, that means YOU screwed up and need to learn to balance a checkbook.

PNC is the worst "bank" ever! It was a wonderful establishment when it was MidAmerica. The people were friendly, the service wonderful, and there were NO HIDDEN FEES! Also, if I didn't have enough money to withdraw, it always TOLD ME SO -- it did not allow me to keep taking money out of the ATM, and charging me up the wazoo in overdraft fees and daily NSF fees. MidAmerica (and later National City), DID allow overdraft on CHECKS -- to cover bills, expenses, etc. It did allow one to pay the bill, and then be dinged the appropriate overdraft fee. HOWEVER, it also NOTIFIED you more quickly. A statement went out as soon as the first overdraft occurred so the customer would not rack up huge deficits in overdraft fees. One would not be allowed to overdraw on the ATM card, at least not as far as I know, I was never able to do so. If I only had $50 and wanted to withdraw 80, it would tell me there was not enough money in the account. It would not give me the 80 and then charge me $35 in fees. PNC is a corrupt, fee-driven establishment.
Just this morning, I learned, via a co-worker (also dissatisfied with PNC), that our direct deposit pay checks WERE NOT posted at PNC! She checked with our payroll dept and they checked into the matter, finding that everything on our end of things went through correctly and on time. The problem lies with PNC. This particular payroll clerk had since received MANY phone calls from other employees with the same complaint. This is a holiday weeked -- people NEED their money to travel, to get their kids to college or buy things for their kids in college, etc. Not to mention people need to PAY BILLS AND EAT! Don't F@#k with people's pay, PNC! I would pull out of PNC, however, my daughter, who just started college (yes, I'm one of those parents I mentioned above), is literally forced to bank at PNC because it is the ONLY BANK ON CAMPUS. They have monopolized the university. The closest other bank is miles away in town. Convenient PNC -- for YOURSELF, that is. Rope 'em in while you have them captive. And, of course, if kids do bank elsewhere, the only ATMS on campus are PNC -- meaning they will charge high fees to those students using non-PNC debit cards.
If I do not have my paycheck in my account by the end of the day, I'd like to know how PNC plans on compensating me -- and countless others in the same boat. I don't have enough in my account to carry me through the long weekend and pay bills. I want my PAYCHECK. NOW!

The issue I believe she is stating is the same issue I have had. When a mistake is made this bank totals up all the charges in PENDING column. When the total is greater than the amount available they charge overdraft fees on all of it. When she made her purchases she was still in the positive (as it sounds) and afterwards her husband made withdrawals that went over. instead of waiting for items to post and cause a negative issue they charge while pending, even if you discover the mistake and deposit money to cover before the items actually post to the account. I gladly pay if I made a mistake (or calculated risk) but when fees are unfair I have a problem. However, my local branch manager is very good at trying to help when possible which seems to be an exception to most peoples experiences at other branches.

So I looked at your complaint and noticed a few things out of place...

1.My husband was not aware of the balance left and took out $103.50 (twice) through ATM machine.-- in response to this your husband took money from a non pnc atm due to the amount being uneven... so who knows if that atm was online or offline... not that I am saying this is an excuse but still your husband used a non pnc atm sometimes when those machines are offline it does not know your true balance and belive me non bank atms will give you money as much as they can its not their problem...

2.I called the bank and spoke to representative and saw the charges, instead of helping me solve this issue (which I take responsibility getting charge for the money that my husband withdraw), he has the nerve to tell me to watch how I spend my money and that he cannot do anything for me to resolve it.--- how manys times have you overdrawn your account? is this a first time? or do you call in every week for a refund? if the od fee's are $36 then this is not your first time because the first time is $25 per item a max of 4 overdraft can be charged per day.

3.My husband and I have a checking account (debit card) NOT Credit card...This bank is making way too much money scheming people, advising them that you cannot get the money out of your account if you do not have enough.---maybe its time to cut your debit card up... if your debit card its cut up or closed per your request then their will be no possibly way to pull money out of an atm of make debit purchase.

4.oh, and the 4 of those charges are less than $5.00). I am IRATE and very DISSAPPOINTED at this bank.---- they have listened the customer pnc no longer charges od fees if at the end of the day the account is negative under $5 i know it didn't help you then...

my thoughts: I am not saying the bank is right and I am not saying your wrong... But you have to understand how the incident started your husband made the error! if he did not do that then you would'nt have been in the situation.. Also when you made your debit purchase's you had money in the account at the time so of course they went through but when the merchants came to collect their money your husband took it out twice... if you have $1000 in your bank account and you subtract every item you spend even if it hasn't been presented to the bank they you will never overdraw your account. You are in control you your debit card and the money thats in the account the bank does not go out and spend it for you... so if you want to "beat the bank" keep track of everything thats all.. and believe me if you keep up the habits with pnc and go to another bank with those habits then your going to be in the same boat... thanks------jake---the--snake

AniOR -- why would someone from the banks be telling people how to AVOID overdraft fees? The banks want to keep collecting that money.

Note to all of above ~ this "Maggie" makes a habit of making inane derogatory comments on complaint pages about banks. See "Maggie" profile and comment list. and also note this "Maggie" is always in favor of the banks. Could this "Maggie" be the bank? Such as the establishment itself that we all are bangin our heads against?

PNC Financial Services Group transaction stacking

My husband and I keep our checking/savings accounts separate and at our own individual banks. I, unfortunately, have been dealing with PNC bank's fraudulent transaction stacking techniques which have caused several OD fees. For example, my husband deposited a check from his bank to my PNC bank on a Saturday. The check cleared his bank immediately but was held for processing by PNC and would be available the next business day. The next business being Monday. WRONG ! PNC held the deposit until midnight Tuesday morning. Normally this would not be an issue, however late Monday night a check was presented to my account and processed well before the other "pending" transactions and the deposit that clearly was listed on my account before the check made it's appearance. However, to obtain the most over draft fees, PNC stacked the transactions by taking the late coming check which was for a greater amount first then the smaller debit cards and lastly the deposit to cover the check. Keep in mind, my checking account already had more than enough to cover the debit card transactions but was a little shy to cover the check hence my husband's deposit. Lesson learned, next time deposit cash. Expensive lesson and for the convenience of not traveling to take cash out from one bank and depositing to another. PNC seen the loop hole and jumped right through it ! Crooks ! I called customer service regarding the fees, they even admitted seeing the pending deposit and the fact they take higher debit transactions first regardless of their order. I've done my research, transaction stacking is common, however holding deposits until after all the debits are processed is not! I will be switching all of my accounts as well as my daughter to another bank. Suck it PNC ! I hope you go under !

After 3 calls to their customer service department and speaking with 3 separate supervisors, they agreed to remove half the charges. Some what of a compromise. No misunderstanding, they openly admitted to their policy and they were aware of the deposit that they held pending that would keep my account good. I will be transferring to another bank that does not hold deposits nor does it process deposits last.

PNC Financial Services Group va home refinance irrrl

I am disgusted with the way PNC handled our refinance. To make a long story short we applied for a VA Streamline Refinance (IRRRL) on our VA mortgage. PNC assured me repeatedly that there was no appraisal required for a VA Streamline Refinance. They then sent their own appraiser who I was told when I called and talked to my loan officer was only looking at the house to make sure that it was intact as we are in a "disaster Zone" according to PNC. I am not sure what they are talking about here as we have never flooded, had an earthquake, or anything like that. I want to reiterate here that I was told repeatedly that and I am quoting here "we are not assigning value and it is not a value based appraisal" I said fine and figured that we were ready to close next week as we had our approval and they said they had all our paperwork. Then surprise surprise, they informed me after a month that our house did not appraise by, get this about $1000 dollars and we need to come up with the difference. My problem with all of this is that they lied to me. I was not informed that they did a value based appraisal until after it was done and they denied my loan based on it. I should also add that the VA told me that a VA appraisal was not ordered by PNC, so I have no idea who they sent out. I am not allowed to see the appraisal, and the loan officer himself has never called to discuss this with me despite the repeated messages I have left for him. I feel what PNC did was dishonest and unethical. I am not even sure it is legal. If they had told me they needed a value based appraisal from the beginning instead of lying to me I could have made a more informed decision and saved a lot of time and hassle. I will be closing my checking accounts with them and moving to a more ethical bank. We are currently attempting to refinancewith another bank that will do our IRRRL loan without an appraisal, lets hope it goes better.

Well all I know is that if it is pnc then there is most likely fraud in your mortgage, there was in mine so now I am suing them and kicking butt I may add. Should be filing final blows in the next few weeks.

PNC Financial Services Group higher payments/non-judicial foreclosure

to shame on Kauai, like yourself PNC sent back any checks for there offer to loan modification. They lowered the interest rate and matched approx. what our mortgage payments were in 2005. After acquiring our loan each year the monthly would increase and calling them has not been sucessful. At any call we would get someone with no last names. We were referred to HOPE who I found one honest person to tell me, we would not qualify for modification because of our income, which was the same as when we qualified in 2005. She told me I shouldn't have gotten the loan with that income. Go figure, pass a loan that was intended to fail later. In 2010 they again told me not to pay and I listened. I am now sending them payments each month based on their modification letter of approval, and they keep sending the payments back and I send each month even though the checks are sent back. Covering my A__ in Pahoa

When questioned about not knowing the answers to basic questions we had...she said file a complaint and hung up! Totally unprofessional. Closing our business accounts at PNC, today

There personal banking is so poor that there is NO way I was going to trust them with my practice. There are just too many quality options. For those that want just a small overview...do a simple search for "Forbes and PNC". There are a few on this forum that will try to dupe you into believing you are in error, but my guess is most of these have extremely limited, small-time banking needs and/or are bank employees or have family members that are such. Otherwise, you will find the reviews and the ratings among the worst for any bank, big or small. But do what you will. As for me, I have found several options for my personal and professional banking needs and have been more than happy with each, as was I with National City before the PNC transition.

PNC Financial Services Group overdraft fees and online banking

When I checked my online banking I noticed in the pending section that I was overdrawn on my checking account. I drove through snow on unplowed roads while Maryland was under a state of emergency declared by the governor to make a cash deposit to cover this pending withdraw. All to no avail. This bank calculated the largest withdrawal first then added the smaller ones in order to maximize the number of overdraft fees it could charge me. When I requested help from PNC customer service I was basically told "too bad, so sad" and just pay up. What used to be a customer friendly bank is turning into an institution that employs any trick it can to take more and more from its customers. Lucky for PNC those who continue to bank with them are human and will make mistakes from time to time. I am researching other banks and their practices and will soon be an ex customer of PNC. This bank should drop Pittsburgh from its name --it is nothing at all like the friendliest city on earth!

Gee, Ellen, you wouldn't happen to be a PNC employee, would you? You're aware that PNC got a class-action suit against it for the practice of reordering transactions so that they can claim you've incurred overdraft fees.

I've gone around and around with PNC on this issue. My partner can't get direct deposit on his check because the business where he works refuses to do it, so he has to deposit his checks manually. Conveniently enough, the deposit cutoff time keeps changing so that his money generally doesn't become available until two or more days after we put the check in. That's the AVAILABLE balance, not the ledger balance, BTW; that's usually another day of waiting--and this is on a payroll check that draws from an account at the very same branch! Explain to me how a deposit that's listed as "pending" doesn't immediately add to one's available balance when a pending withdrawal subtracts from one's available balance immediately.

PNC's very good at playing with one's "available balance" so that they can hit you with overdraft fees. Here's a good one for you: On 2/3/12, I placed an order that immediately showed as a pending transaction. Fair enough. The next day (2/4/12), I called and canceled the order, and the company removed the authorization. When I checked, the pending transaction was gone. But miraculously, on 2/7/12, the pending transaction was back--just in time for PNC to claim that I'd overdrawn my account. What's more, PNC claimed the pending charge had never been taken off, complete with backdating the pending charge to 2/3--and never mind that the company in question e-mailed me confirmation that they had indeed removed their authorization on 2/4. And what makes this whole scenario even more suspicious is that the letter I got in the mail a few days later that detailed how I'd overdrawn my account listed my rent payment first, even though it wasn't the first transaction that would have gone through, so that the bank could claim I had multiple overdrafts instead of one.

What happened, simply put, is that PNC FACTORED IN UNPROCEESSED TRANSACTIONS--TRANSACTIONS THAT HADN'T POSTED TO MY ACCOUNT--TO DETERMINE THAT I'D OVERDRAWN MY ACCOUNT. That defies logic and ethical accounting practices. I could possibly have lived with this travesty, if PNC had automatically refunded the overdraft fee as well, but I had to write to them through their own site, get no response, and talk to a rep before they manually removed the charge "as a one-time courtesy." "One-time courtesy" my eye; it was PNC's screw-up and their own questionable accounting practices that incurred the fee in the first place.

But you, Ellen67, say that the original complaint is invalid because BAGraff1 said s/he was "overdrawn." Let's clarify: BAGraff1's account was NOT overdrawn at that time, as shown on the ACTUAL LEDGER BALANCE that accounts for posted items. BAGraff1's account would have been overdrawn IF ALL ITEMS POSTED. What's more, BAGraff1 made a CASH deposit, which means there's no question of waiting for a check to clear. Explain to me why a cash deposit doesn't immediately clear. In fact, it was my understanding of PNC's funds availability policy that cash deposits *are* posted immediately *because* it's cash and doesn't have to wait to clear like a check would. That being the case, then unless PNC posts transactions retroactively--an unethical, if not actually illegal, accounting practice--BAGraff1's deposit should have posted before the ledger balance--the balance that PNC SHOULD be checking for overdrafts--would have been overdrawn.

So no matter how you cut it, Ellen67, you're full of it to say it's all the customer's fault. Next time, try being a customer at PNC instead of (as you pretty obviously are) one of its employees before you blame the customers.

PNC Financial Services Group lied to me about flood insurance

Soon after I applied for a refinance mortgage at PNC bank, the national office informed me that I am in a flood zone and must have flood insurance. I then provided proof from our local government department that our house is not in a flood zone.

Soon after that “RRamirez” of PNC sent a PNC memo to Edith Wrona saying that because I provided such proof, it was OK to not require flood insurance. Edith Wrona then forwarded that memo to my local PNC mortgage agent who then forwarded it to me.

But I continued to receive generic “You must have flood insurance” form letters from PNC.
So in late January I called the PNC mortgage customer service line, and the woman there confirmed that her computer said “Flood insurance *not* required” and she said that I should just ignore the automatically generated form letters demanding flood insurance.

I then had a $500 elevation survey done by a licensed surveyor to confirm that my house is 1.3 feet above the flood level.

For 5 weeks after January 25th, I emailed Edith Wrona asking for a PNC letter confirming the PNC email that flood insurance would not be required, but she never responded to any of my emails.

Our local PNC agent said that he did not know why the national office was not responding to any of my emails.
Finally, on February 24th, I called the national PNC and asked to speak to a supervisor.

PNC national mortgage supervisor Brandi Coyner returned my call and said “Since January 25th, we have repeatedly informed you that the January 25th email was a mistake, we have repeatedly told you that that decision has been reversed, we have repeatedly apologized to you for that mistake, and you are in a flood zone no matter what the Louisville government officials and the surveyor say.”

I then told her that nobody had ever informed me of any such thing, since Edith Wrona had never contacted me after January 25th, and our local PNC agent had repeatedly said that he didn’t know why the PNC national office was being silent for 5 weeks. And I informed her that I am a retired church pastor who will swear on the Bible that I am telling the truth about the matter.

PNC supervisor Brandi Coyne then *angrily* *yelled* into the telephone that she had the “proof” right there in front of her that I had been repeatedly informed that the January 25th email was a “mistake” that had been reversed.

I finally got so tired of her angrily yelling lies at me that I had to hang up on her. I have now applied for a refinance mortgage at Republic Bank for half the closing costs demanded by PNC.

PNC Financial Services Group scammed

I lost my waitressing job bank in May 2011 and was job hunting day to day at local restaurants and retail places, looking for any place to work. I submitted my resume for an Attorney's Assistant position I saw on Craigslist for the sole fact that I was pursuing an education in the Paralegal field. This attorney replied to my resume letting me know that I was perfect for the position and that he would be paying me $455 salary to deal with his clients, keep his scheduling organized, and run any errands that needed to be ran. We had communicated over the phone and email for a couple weeks. One day he informed me that he would be sending me a check in the mail and I would use the money to shop for supplies for an orphanage in his hometown that he donates to every year. He told me he would be emailing me the supplies list as soon as he talked to the President of the orphanage. Once I received this check it was for the amount of $2500. It looked like a payroll check. I deposited the check in my checking account at PNC on the Wednesday morning June 1, 2011. I emailed the attorney and let him know I wasn’t going to touch the money in my account until I knew the check was cleared.

On Friday June 3, 2011 I saw the $2500 clear into my PNC checking account. Before I contacted the attorney I was working for, I called PNC around 10:30 AM to verify that the money clearing in my account meant that the check was cleared. The representative explained to me that it only takes 48-72 hours for the check to clear and the funds were clear and everything looked good. So I called the attorney and let him know the check had cleared and I was ready for him to send the supply list for the orphanage. He replied and let me know that he had talked to the President of the orphanage and they would rather have a money donation to be able to use the money where needed. He then emailed me instructions on how to send the money and where to send it. He told me he wanted the donation to be for $1850 and to use the rest of the money as my weekly pay. I then went to the closest Western Union (Publix off Oslo Road in Vero Beach) and completed the money transfer for a total of $2011. This amount was too much to purchase using my debit card so Publix then had to call PNC and have them verify the amount and transaction for it to go through. After about an hour, the transaction finally went through and I contacted the attorney and let him know the transaction details.

The following day, June 4, 2011, I received a notification that my checking account was over drafted over $2000. I later discovered the check was fraudulent and the attorney I was in contact with was no longer reachable. I immediately filed a police report and filed a dispute with the bank. I presented the representative, Jessica Francis, at the PNC bank where I opened my account (4105 9TH ST. SW Vero Beach, FL 32968) with all the evidence supporting that I was scammed. I had all the emails, the envelope the check came in, the name and phone numbers of the person I was talking too, the police report, and a photo of the fraudulent check. Everyone in the branch was unsympathetic to my situation and pretty much made me feel like I should have known better. After three weeks, PNC denied my fraudulent claim and has now held me responsible for the money that was sent out. After this happened, all the moneys in my accounts at PNC were frozen and unable for me to touch. My bills during this time were all past due and unable to be paid because PNC applied all the money I had left to be applied to this negative account. I tried to have the bank manager help contact someone over the phone that could help me in my situation and at least work with me. No one wanted to hear my side of the story and just wanted me to pay the bank back.

I feel that PNC is negligent in my situation because they had cleared the money to my account without the check being cleared. I feel like there was nothing I could have done to prevent this from happening because I was venerable and desperate for work and was even precautious with this money transfer. I feel that PNC needs to take responsibility for clearing and approving something that was in their complete control. If I hadn’t called and made sure that the check was cleared, and if they would have told me that the check wouldn’t be cleared for another week then I would have never made the transaction. I have discussed my claim with my other bank (JP Morgan Chase) and they informed me that no other bank in this country would have made the mistake PNC did by clearing the funds of an out of state check without verifying that the check was good. I have had no luck in finding justice against this bank. To this day I am still fighting with PNC to resolve this. They have now put my name in Check Systems as a fraudulent check holder and I am unable to obtain a checking account anywhere in the United States. This over drafted account at PNC is not because of my irresponsibility, it is theirs. PNC has made it impossible for me to get on my feet again because they froze money in the checking accounts I had at their bank and has now caused my other accounts at other banks close my checking accounts as well.

I would like to get back the $491.48 that PNC took out of my other checking account I had at with them, I would also like PNC to clear the $2011 transaction that they approved and fronted the money for as fraudulent, and to clear my name off Check Systems. Lastly, I want PNC to compensate for all the trouble they have caused my life and finances. I know I have a case and all the evidence to prove that I am a victim and that PNC is responsible for their negligence. I know there is someone out there that can help me in this horrible situation.

My life has been nothing but utter chaos and stressful for the past two months. If you are unable to help me with this I would appreciate any advice or information on anyone you know that can help.

So...you took a job on Craigs List without ever meeting your employer. He started by giving you a large check, then asked you to transfer the money back to him. That is one of the biggest scams out there. It isn't the bank's resposibility to cover a mistake that was made because you didn't look into the situation. And if you had explained to a teller or banker what you were doing with that money and mentioned Craigs List at all, they would have told you it was a scam. You don't give the whole story, they can't help you when you make a stupid mistake. And it was YOUR mistake.

PNC Financial Services Group notary

notary public for unclaimed property claim form cannot be done at PNC. this is just proof of signature so why can't they do it? they can notarize anything else as far as i know whats the difference and very inconvenient. Banks are just weaseling their way out of free services that they should offer to keep my monies.

PNC Financial Services Group payments

When PNC bought National City Mortgage, which held my mortgage, naturally, the billing address had changed. As I pay everything through my online pay system through my bank, upon receiving PNC's mortgage pmt bill, I immediately set them up through that system.
I received a notice that I was late on my September payment. I ignored the notice thinking their system was slow or that their inner departmental communications was simply different than what I was used to.
After another month, I received another notice that I was now two months behind. I had just made the October payment several weeks before. Well now I called PNC to figure this out. The "customer service" rep, if I dare use such a term to describe this bum, could care less about my issues. I told him I in fact had the online record in my hand proving I was not late. His response? Are you planning to foreclose?" He didn't hear one word I said nor did he care.
When I asked, "so what happens now? What are you planning on doing?" He laughed. Then verbally shrugged. "huh?"

I read him the address my bank sent the pmt to and he said nonchalantly, that PNC hadn't used that address in years.

Huh? I told him I didn't pull that address out of my butt, so it had to come from them or the bank.

Needless to say, I had to come up with the double payment and then stop all billy paying through the online bank system.

Then I had to lease a vehicle a few months later. Ford wanted to know if my house pmts were up to date. Their records show they were not. Another PNC screw up I'm assuming. So it took 5 days of dealing with PNC to produce a simple document declaring i was in fact, not defaulting on the home. But because of their incompetence, after suggesting they would fax to Ford the form needed, I find out five days later when no fax was ever received by Ford, that PNC did not have a fax machine at all. What? NO FAX?

So I went on their website, pulled up my payment history and found the form Ford needed online and sent it to Ford myself.

PNC is useless. They are stupid, incompetent, and a nightmare to deal with. I want out of my mortgage now.

PNC Financial Services Group merchant service lies, broken promises and fees

I own a small business and needed merchant services to run credit/debit payments. I was approached by the representative, given the sales pitch, and promised a $250.00 bonus for signing up with the POS system. I was also told that if I didn't want to continue with the system I could always trade it out with the standard unit. Well... after I discovered that my building was n ot equipped to house the POS system I then tried to contact the merchant services who sold me on the idea of the sysytem. No response. I called and left SEVERAL messages on her voicemail, with the branch tellers, at the 800-customer service number, at merchant services, and I NEVER got a response. This went on from April to July. Finally I got hit with fees to my account for this machine I could not use. I disputed the fees and then I requested that I ger the smaller machine because the big one I can not use. I was told that was fine and that I should receive a label to mail the system back in.

Well what mankes the story get even worse... a month and a half before all of this my shop was burglarized and I deposited the reimbursement check from the bank into the account. They put a hold on the account because I requested a new machine. Now Merchant Services representative Regis was VERY nasty to me, saying that it didn't matter if it didn't work if I signed the lease I own it for the 48 months. Then he went on to say I was lying about contacting the bank, merchant services, and the sales rep. He was so rude it moved me to tears! I couldn't believe how I was being treated. Not only had my NEW business been burglarized but now I am not able to open because Merchant Services is holding my money that I was reimbursed so I am going to be forced to close my business for good.

The even worse part... I was told that I would be contacted in 24 to 48 hours, I have called, left messages with the manager, sales rep and have gotten NO RESPONSE. I feel violated, ignored and I don't know how a business would feel this is right.

I own a small business and had been using PNC Bank Merchant Serices. My business sales using credit card have decreased significantly, while the fees have increased dramatically. In the month of November alone, I have been charged over $120.00 - while my credit card sales were less than $100. I am switching to a service that charges per transaction - with no contract or monthly fee. I called today to cancel my service, and after waiting 20 mins I was finally connected to a service rep who informed me that in order to cancel I needed to be handled by an account specialist. I was then informed that my information would be given to the account specialist dept, and they would probably call me back in 3 - 5 business days. If they could not reach me when they called, they would attempt up to 3 times, then I would have to start over again. I could call them directly, but my call would probably go to voice mail - and I would still have to wait the 3 - 5 days for them to call me back! I am stunned - clearly, I should never have allowed myself to be duped into using PNC Bank Merchant Services.

PNC Financial Services Group erroneous letter of default

I received a letter dated 6/9/11, that stated my mortgage loan was past due and "in default". The letter was clearly in error as I had paid my monthly payments through November, 2011, and had begun to pay $1000 per month in additional principal payment.
When I called the number provided in the letter, I was served by "Chawentta" (first name) who would not provide her last name. She was abrupt and rude and made no effort to listen to why I was calling. She did remark that it appears my loan is current, and when I asked that I receive a letter refuting the correspondence they sent dated 6/9/11, she said she could not do that. I attempted to say that I was fearful that the litnany of errors by mortgage compay's that I read about frightens me, and I'd simply like a written response that the letter I received was in error and PNC's record have been corrected. She again refused. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she asked why? I stated that I'd like to make my request to someone who may have the authority to honor it. She then put me on hold (silence--no music) for an inordinant amount of time when I finally hung up, completely frustrated. I then attempted to find out who oversees PNC mortgage company--this is not easy, although Joseph Guyaux is the President of PNC Bank (the holding co) and has responsibility over PNC mortgage. I'll now attempt to reach him...

PNC Financial Services Group bad customer service

Called PNC bank at the local branch in Newark NJ to get some help about my account, did not want to go into the bank because the 888# indicated that if I called the bank they could help me over the phone. When I called the young lady was unprofessional and could not help me and to even make matter worse she hung the phone up on me. I was so angry, I called back because I could not believe she hung up on me and can she started talking loud and being really unprofessional again. I was so angry that I indicated that I would be right there to the branch, I only work 2 minutes away. I went into the bank and guess what the staff was taking pictures with the security guard in the front and no one stated can I help you. I did eventually speak to the manager but at this point I was too upset and at a real disbelief of everything that had just accured. What happened to the days when people valued their jobs and gave great customer service. Those days are long gone. PNC Bank needs to better screen there staff because it's bad for business.

I had two certificates of deposit with National City bank, totaling a little more than $50, 000, due to mature Sept. 20, 2011; I also had a tiny checking account that I had allowed to go inactive. In the fall of 2009, National City seems to have declared the CDs as part of the inactive account and sent the amount to the unclaimed property department where I live. There has never been a point when I could not be reached, so there was no reason to consider the accounts as unclaimed property, but no one at PNC is willing to take responsibility for the actions of the bank they took over. They found a way to avoid paying two years of interest on the CDs that were not supposed to mature until Sept. 2011.

What I find interesting is that PNC doesn't monitor this site. I work for a competitor bank and I monitor these boards often. The bank I work for seems to want to listen to the customers or at least give them a way to communicate their issues directly to the bank. Of all the complaints for PNC on here, I have yet to see a reply to them through here in an attempt to let the customer know they are listening.

But, when you try and cancel, they hit with outrageous earl;y termination fees saying the contract you signed allows them to add charges that didn't exist before!!! PNC Financial Services Group buying foreclosure nightmare

I am writing to share my over 4 month ordeal with pnc bank, trying to purchase a foreclosed home, with no end in sight. And this is for a straight no-financing, cash purchase. I could write 10 pages about the terrible service i've gotten from them - and I am the one trying to give them my money! (over 6 figures, in cash.) very short version of the story - pnc has a number of bank-owned foreclosed homes in sw florida. I was looking for a house recently, found one I liked. Saw that it was a pnc foreclosure, did not give off any warning bells, read on here that they have terrible customer service but I naively thought this would not apply to me.

The offer was accepted quite rapidly (after counter-offers), then began the waiting and complete lack of communication, information, or updates. After waiting approx. 2 months with no updates able to be provided by my realtor, I contacted pnc directly and was brusquely forwarded by pnc to the 3-rd party company servicing foreclosures. Will not name them here - yet - because I believe the root of all the problems lies with pnc.

Was told at the 2-month mark that pnc's legal department (which, by the way, is completely unreachable and lists no phone, address, or email on any site - spent hours looking) was still reviewing the foreclosure documents and this was taking a long time, as they had to go over everything with a fine-tooth comb due to the problems with foreclosures being done improperly and 'robo-signed' in fla during '08 and '09 primarily. Ok, I thought, I will be patient. Meanwhile, more weeks go by, turning into months, now at the 3 month mark (remember, this is not a short sale, but a bank-owned home with a straight cash purchase) and still able to get no update on when, or even if, the docs would be ok'd by pnc's mysterious and unreachable 'legal department'. At this point, major life plans for the year need to be changed (flights, seasonal working schedules, etc.) at a pretty huge expense. Lucky I have another home available to me to live in while waiting - imagine if this was a situation where a family sold their previous home, relying on the normal situation that they could close on their next home in a reasonable period of time. They'd be homeless for 4 months (and counting).

Finally - 3 months after the offer was accepted, news that that mystery legal team finally ok'd the docs and we could go into inspection/contract phase. Thank god, I think, my trials are over and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. This brings into play a 3rd company that is involved in the transaction, the title company (also to be unnamed as of now, as they have at least tried to be helpful). Inspections done quickly, addendums all signed, now I think it's just a matter of a week, two tops, before the house is mine. Wrong! Remember, this is pnc we are dealing with! As past customers here have attested, it could never go that smoothly with them.

Waiting, waiting, waiting, no communication from pnc, the foreclosure service co., the title company, and the realtor says they've sent emails to pnc with no updates on closing. Then, I learned from the title company that they are waiting on one doc in particular - the deed, which had never been changed from fannie mae's name to pnc! That's right, the house that pnc was/is selling is still, according to the deed, is owned by fannie mae! So technically it's not even theirs! How cool is that?!?! Oh, but it gets better.

Was told by nice guy at the title company that pnc informed them they put thru for a change of deed at my county clerk's office around the time inspections were done (at the 3-month mark). Hmm, strange, I think, as I know that things are not busy at all there, and this should not take so long. And after talking to those in the know, I learned this should take 1 week maximum. So finally I searched the county records today, found all records for the home (since it was built) and all records for pnc the past year and - can you guess it - there has never been any record put through to change the deed to pnc's name! That's right, pnc lied when they said they put the deed thru a month ago, the document has never been filed. And in the meantime, I have been waiting patiently and naively, like an idiot, believing what I was told by pnc and the foreclosure servicing company.

I have waited because I really like the home, and it was sold at a fair price due to it being bank-owned and needing some repair work. But in the meantime I have foregone a number of other homes that would have been good options also, and sat and waited and planned, measured, planned more, and waited more - now coming up on 4 months - for these idiots who could care less if they get this asset off their books or not, and care even less than that how they treat a potential customer waiting to give them tens of thousands of dollars.

I will update this report if there is a 'happy' ending, but even if the closing happened in the next few days, the experience so far with pnc has caused an incredible amount of stress, problems, and aggravation. I can totally relate to the other stories here, and I strongly urge anyone considering purchasing a pnc-owned home to consider my experience and ask yourself if you are willing to potentially go thru the same to buy that dream foreclosure.

My husband and I are going through the same type of problem. We have been living in a house full of packed boxes for almost a month now with no end in sight! Our "closing date" is a JOKE and keeps getting pushed further and further back. Phil Humble is the pain in the ### person we are dealing with and I would not recommend him or this financial institution to anyone!

I hate to say it, but be glad you havent gotten a mod. We did and it went from a 30 yr fixed 6.25% to a 40 yr fixed 5.25% with a balloon payment at the end. All the "trial payments" were never applied to our account so we ended up having $30, 000 added to our loan. We are completely upside down. So we are walking away(short selling). From the beginning we had a screwed up loan. They didnt figure our taxes out correctly and our impound acct. was wrong so they increased our payment $400.00 a month. Thats why we asked for a mod. then we got a worse loan then we started with. I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit, they are scandulous! so be cautious even though they have " you by the balls". we are actually looking to buy a bigger house for less money, in a few years. I know everything will work out the way its suppose to so good luck to you. I say walk away !

PNC Financial Services Group arbitrary closing of account

I entered the bank with cash for a deposit with the understanding I would be opening one of their "Foundation Accounts" for individuals who have had distressed financial situations. As I had recently completed a bankruptcy I figured this would be the case. After pounding on his computer terminal for a time, the Branch Manager informed me that he was "the MAN" and could get me a regular account. I asked specifically if, since the deposit was cash, I would be able to immediately access the funds as I had financial obligations coming up very shortly. I was told that I could. Upon going to the bank on Friday to get an official check to pay off the one loan I retained during the bankruptcy, I was told that PNC Bank had arbitrarily determined that they did not want to do business with me, closed the account, and sent me a check. This has effectively frozen my funds and is preventing me from paying off financial obligations that I have promised. When I called PNC Bank's home office I was told directly that it was company policy and any losses I incurred were just tough luck as they had the right to "change the game" any time they so choose. I find this attitude reprehensible and do not recommend them.

PNC Financial Services Group - overdraft fees

I opened a joint account with my son so he would have use of an ATM account while in college. We chose PNC bank because his college marketed PNC to freshman as the bank on campus. We were offered the service of overdraft protection where for $36 PNC will cover overdraft fees. I don't believe you should be able to take money out that you don't have so I...

PNC Financial Services Group stay away

Pnc bank charges overdrafts on (pending transactions) its a scam. Thet should only be allowed to charge a overdraft to posted transactions. They also hold the pending transaction longer so you will overdraft more think you have the money in your acct. They also make sure they take the biggest transaction first so you overdraft all of the smaller ones, it is out of sequence. So if you spent for example $20 on 7 debits cigs, pop, asprin ETC and then you see you don't have the money to cover the expence and put the money in the bank before they(post) to yur acct. they will charge your acct $255 on twenty dollars worth of pending transaction not posted transaction, , , , what a bunch of crooks

Even though this Administration has begun a program entitled Making Home Affordable to help people modify their current mortgages and avoid foreclosures, individual banks are placing their own restrictions and requirements to qualify for this program so that most people are told they do not qualify. PNC Bank has done this to me and through their machinations and manipulations not only did not help me reduce my interest rate or monthly payments but instead actually INCREASED my monthly payment $300 per month. Anybody else have problems of this nature? And does anyone know how to qualify for this Making Home Affordable program or qualify for a bank loan modification?

...as an aside, I like the "read the disclosures...they will tell you they hold the smallest to largest transactions". That is good stuff. Again, correct in that people have to be responsible in maintaining an accurate account ledger, but that statement alone speaks volumes as to the practices of the bank and one should easily infer that their strategy is one of maximizing penalties and less to providing customer-oriented service. I agree, read your disclosures and THEN find another banking option.

I actually agree with Mellen...granted, the bank is inept on most every other level and there are reasons aplenty to stay a good country mile away from PNC, but balancing an account and avoiding overdraft fees should be obligatory. Granted, there are a few banks that queue transactions in a manner to maximize penalties and PNC is among those, but you really have to make sure that you have enough to cover all pending transactions, even those they are holding for 10 days in order to avoid penalties. That one goes on the consumer. PNC is certainly the worst bank I have encountered in 25+ years, without question, but ineptitude on their part shouldn't excuse one from maintaining an accurate account ledger. Yes, some banks will charge you overdraft fees, although a few (Huntington, for one) allow a grace period to cover overdraft charges and many don't utilize the same penalty maximization algorithm, but you can't use this as an excuse for firing a bank, especially when there are so many other legitimate reasons to avoid PNC for anything more than the most simple checking account.

PNC Financial Services Group health savings account (hsa)

I had a health savings account (HSA) at National City, when in the fall of 2009, as a result of the "merger" prompted by political favors to Pittsburgh (and a political slap to Cleveland) instead of bailing out National City, PNC was given billions and took over Nat City. The result was the loss of 100s of Cleveland jobs and thousands of pissed off Nat City customers. With my Nat City HSA, there was online customer service 24/7 and online bill pay, both of which are considered minimum banking services for major banks in the United States.

Starting in the fall of 2009 when PNC took over, their HSA (which, ironically is accessed by the absolutely incorrect website of "smart-hsa.com") has no online customer service (customer service may be reached only 9-5 Monday to Friday by calling an 800 # (after an average 30 minutes on hold). The account still has no online bill pay. Electronic transfers of money from my main account take 3-4 days. The account and the bank are a joke. Pony Express would be faster. Yet 18 months later in the spring of 2011, it appears that nothing has or will change with their services.
