Don Plato of Plato Auctions and Appraisals took our valuable things said he would auction them. He never would answer our calls except once to say he didn't sell and refused to give the things back to our family when he did say he never sold them. These were valuable things and very precious to our family; as I grew up with some of these things. Especially, the WWll Raton furniture he said he did not sell. When approached by one of our family members to pick up; he said he had to have a letter and copy of contract. Even though, when I told him at that time that I would have a family member pick the things up from him. I gave them the contract and permission to pick up verbally and by letter, yet he still refuses to give to them and does not answer their calls either. I guess the only way to reach him is to go to one of his Auctions, as that was the only way they were able to reach him. My guess is that he did sell everything and refuses to pay me for the things that he took from us. I think you better think twice before you use someone like this as an Auctioneer. I have never been paid and he still refuses to call us back.

We gave this to him in May 2016 when we sold our cottage there in Ontario Canada. I don't believe he ever intended to pay us. I should have given to my step sister then. We just want the furniture and antique things back now.

I agree with everything that you and others have complained about with Plato Auctioneers.. I hope he looses his license! He should be arrested for theft! Don Plato will not answer phone calls or VM's or letters once he has your things. We also want to report him to the Auctioneer board. We did contact them . He just finally responded to us recently after we told him that. He then emailed me, that he will sell our things at the next auction. However, that was after we had our family members try to pick it up. Our family members came with truck and all and Don's Auction and he refused to give the items (furniture and other items) to them. We had emailed and called him and told him that we were sending them over there. Don had said, the one time I did reach him that he did not sell the furniture. That's when I said, I would have a family member pick it up. After that he would never pick up the phone. So, sent our family member over to pick up and then Don said they would need the paper work and refused to give it to them. So we gave them the paper work and they called and called/ left VM and he refused to call them back after they left numerous messages.
How this man can live with himself ripping off a 91 year old woman from what is rightfully hers. It is theft from an elderly woman! I will stand with whomever, wants to go to bat with me regarding this man who has obviously taken advantage of others besides us. He should be in jail.

This man is a crook! I have repeatedly asked for my things back as he said he could not sell them. Even so much as had family members try to pick up merchandise he was supposed to sell. Finally sent me a check for practically nothing and said he finally sold for that. When I know he had already sold my dining room set and never sent the money for that. I have asked over and over, leaving messages after messages and emailed Don for years now. My family members even went to one of his auctions to get our antique rattan back and he refused to give it to them; he said he would sell in the next Auction. At that point all we wanted was our stuff back. That is when I found out he had already sold our dining set and never sent the money. Also, I have recently written to him that I want the old photos he took back too and no response; as usual. Just look out if dealing with this individual. Don't expect to see any money come from him or for Don to answer your calls, emails or letters. Just sayin!

My story is the same as everyone else on here. I suggest we start rounding up all the people that have been ripped off by this guy and work to shut him down. I dont care about the money now; I just want to see this [censored] out of business.

I also have the same complaint against Don Plato and after repeated emails which he continues to ignore, I am taking action!

My sister and I have also used Don Plato to auction our deceased father's antique collection, amassed over 50 years during which time he was a licensed dealer. Don does not answer phone calls or emails. If you see him in person, he tells you he will take care of your issues and then he doesn't and you can't reach him. He sold some valuable items of my father's at an auction we attended and then didn't pay us for them, claiming they belonged to someone else. After getting a few people involved in, he eventually admitted the items belonged to us and he compensated us but it took a great deal of effort on our part. He will under-value items (evidenced by how he starts the bidding), and I have witnessed him giving items away for free at the end of auctions when few people are left. I cannot help but wonder if he has "plants" in the bidding audience, i.e. friends to whom he sells items at rock bottom prices and then sells later at market/inflated prices.) His business practices are questionable at best, and his client service is non-existent. I suggest that unsatisfied vendors contact the Auctioneer's Association of Ontario to file a complaint. Other options include small claims court, police charges, and local/social media.

I have a similar story. It is suggested that we start a class action law suit. Can you please get in touch with me and suggest how we can go about finding the others? Thank you.
