Pitney Bowes Unethical behavior

Incident date: 9/25/17
Case #: [protected]
Our payment was made on-line 2 days before the due date of September 17, 2017, which falls on a weekend. An email confirmation was received and the verbatim wording says, "Your payment has been successfully processed as reflected below:
Payment Amount: XXX
Payment Date: September 15, 2017
Confirmation code: XXX"
It comes out of our bank account on September 18, 2017 and we get charged $35 late fee.

Pitney Bowes' argument is their fine print which says, "Please allow UP TO 2 business days for your on-line payment to PROCESS." I have an email (copy attached) that confirms my payment HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY PROCESSED on 9/15 /17.
Our payment is not a credit card card payment but an ACH direct payment.

BOTTOM LINE: PITNEY BOWES HOLDS ITS CUSTOMERS TO A STANDARD OF COUNTING BUSINESS DAYS, BUT THEY COUNT CALENDAR DAYS FOR DUE DATES AND THEIR 27 DAY BILLING PERIOD. DUE DATE MEANS 2 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE YOUR DUE DATE AND IF YOUR DUE DATE FALLS ON A WEEKEND IT MEANS 3 OR 4 DAYS BEFORE YOUR DUE DATE; "UP TO" 2 BUSINESS DAYS MEANS - "DEFINITELY 2 BUSINESS DAYS OR LONGER IF WE FEEL LIKE IT"...At this point I was condescendingly asked by MARIE (customer service supervisor), if I knew what business days are? [Really? You're going to insult my intelligence?]; YOUR EMAIL CONFIRMING YOUR PAYMENT WAS SUCCESSFULLY PROCESSED DOESN'T REALLY MEAN IT WAS SUCCESSFULLY PROCESSED, IT SIMPLY MEANS "WE RECEIVED YOUR PAYMENT" - This was the explanation I was given for my misunderstanding that processed doesn't mean processed.

To companies making postage provider decisions by researching reviews:
Use Stamps.com, Amazon, or (yes, even) USPS.

To summarize our late fee removal request denial explanation:
1) "Up to 2 days" means to me that it could take AT THE MOST 2 days" but to PB it means it will definitely take two business days - at the very least.
2) "Successfully Processed" doesn't mean successfully processed, it means successfully received into our system to be processed at a later date because there's no one in our office to process your payment at 3:00PM on a Friday. (Actual explanation - so #3)
3) Pitney Bowes adds another BUSINESS DAY to the already UP TO 2 business days since the bank day changes to the next business day after 1:00 EDT - PB doesn't really care what time zone you happen to be and their system - that can't instantly process a payment when it's sent via ACH, most certainly can't be expected to make adjustments for time zones.
4) All this and they have the nerve to question my intelligence?

Litigation, anyone? [NOT A THREAT, JUST A SUGGESTION TO OTHER CUSTOMERS AND/OR POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS.] However, the consumer advocates and the states' attorneys general tend to appreciate what consumers can see and what consumers can hold in their hand, like email confirmations. They also like words to mean exactly what their definition indicates. And they really frown upon condescending remarks to the consumers to whom customer service reps earn their paycheck to serve, i.e., "Do you know what a business day is, ma'am?"

Your $35 late fee may cost you a lot more than it costs us. Oh, and capital letters were necessary.

Pitney Bowes Postage meter

This is by far the worst company we’ve ever had to deal with in nearly 30 years of doing business. They demand payment for amounts which aren’t due. Then when you ask for the invoices they simply turn your machine off with no explanation. After we cancelled our lease and sent payment for the remaining term they replied we owed them over $1, 000 more! When asked for an explanation they replied;

“As a result of termination of the lease agreement, prior to the end of the contractual lease term, Pitney Bowes incurs incremental costs related to inventory, logistics, support staffing and corporate administration as well as disruption to our business and cash-flow planning.”

None of this is in their contract. They simply try to invent whatever they can to fraudulently collect more money. In addition over three months later they have over $3, 000 of our money we prepaid in postage which they haven’t returned.

Nobody should do business with these thieves!

Pitney Bowes Franking machine

Avoid this rip of company at all costs!

Having spent two months in hospital after a cancer diagnosis, I contacted a parameshwari (collections controller) asking to end my contract and send me a revised invoice, with the £178.52 credit on my machine deducted.I received no reply and no adjusted bill.Only a further bill with a ridiculous amount of added interest and the machine has still not been collected.Until I get a realistic invoice with the excess interest, that is still being added and the £178.52 credit deducted, nothing will be paid and I will be invoicing Pitney Bowes at £10.00 a day, storage fees, for the storage of their machine.I will also be setting up Twitter and Facebook accounts summarising the appalling service given by Pitney Bowes and especially the gangster tactics used by parameshwari together with a youtube video on the subject.

Pitney Bowes Package that was delivered through this courier from ebay

I received my package last week on 28th April at 12:01pm, cut open and with no product inside. The label on the package says "Resealed by the Global Shipping Program" however the package very clearly has not been resealed in any way. Basically, you have cut open a package, inspected it for customs reason (I imagine) and have failed to reseal the package and send to me. According to all the tracking information I have received my package, so there is nothing that the seller can do about this. And really, it isn't the seller's fault. This is a careless mistake on your company's behalf. The package contained 30 drawer handles which I have now had to source elsewhere. In the meantime, I would like a full refund for the purchase price. I have attached my purchase receipt as well as photos of the packaging.

Pitney Bowes Postage machine

We cancelled pitney bowes, years ago, they have an auto renew contract and then when you try to stop the service they hit you with the years fees, penalties etc. As far as we are concerned the can take the $2700+ and shove it up their ###. My attorney will deal with them. Don't use it is a con. When you quit the service they'll hit you hard. They just sent a box for us to return the machine.

Pitney Bowes Customer service / mailstation 2 k7mo

My General Manager purchased a Pitney Bowes Postage Small Office Series Mailstation2 (K67MO Model) for our company's postage. Pitney Bowes changed to a new machine (the old one worked perfectly, never any problems). The new machine constantly has issues and will not print postage. He was informed that he needed to spend $179.00 to get out of the contract. Each time he calls he spends over an hour on the phone waiting to speak to customer service. Today, he is on the phone, over an hour, while he goes to the post office to pay for postage, and disappointingly, there is $500.00 worth of postage on the Pitney Bowes Postage Machine here at the office.

Pitney Bowes Pre-paid postage refund

After many problem filled years we returned our Pitney Bowes postage meter. This was a frustrating chore but we secured a "return kit" and wrote a cover letter requesting the return of nearly 1K of prepaid postage (the reason it got so high was PB's constant demands to "add postage" in order to make the machine function). We verified the safe return in June/2015 and waited for our money. Nothing. In November we were told that a special refund form was required (but not mentioned in the "return kit"). This form was submitted on November 24th. 2015 via verified fax. Each time we ask about our refund, we are told that it is "in process" and will be mailed in "10-15 business days". They are friendly and vague. We never move past these assurances and still have no refund after 6 months. It is inconvenient not having a postage meter but we all agree that licking stamps is preferable to dealing with PB. These shenanigans must work to PB's advantage but it is hard to imagine treating customers like this as your daily mission.

Pitney Bowes Postage machine

Worst company to have a problem with. Would rather go into the post office daily and stand in line for an hour than have to deal with the, . I have been dealing with the same problem for 3 days. They are rude and can't apologize refused for a day to place a work order for a our postage equipment saying it was on our IT side. So we call them and pay for a service call just to find out that we need a new meter. I then go through 3 managers yesterday to be ensured that a tech will be out today to have this fixed today. I called back today and was told that it would not be until Monday for someone to come out and fix it. I spoke to 2 managers and one had me on hold for 31 mins. I finally got to my 3rd manager who was the regional sales manager who still could not help get this fixed any faster but was the first person who apologized without me calling them out on it and tried to help and went the extra mile. Mind you I was promised yesterday by the last manager that this would be fixed today. Then they didn't get why I was so mad and why I didn't believe them that this would be fixed on Monday either. I actually would place money that this won't be. Can't believe a company would allow so many rude people to work in customer service. I however will be looking at new companies so not to ever have to call Pitney Bowes again- like I said worst customer service ever.

Pitney Bowes Charge for their engineers to repair their inserting machine

I bought this folding/inserting machine about a year ago, we had problem with inserting, but I thought we should have a 12 months warranty, so it should be Ok. When we called Pitney Bowes, it turns out we only had 3 months warranty for a brand new machine, and that was never mentioned and i was never offered a maintenance contract. Now it took so many phone calls emails to get an engineer, at last we were told that it will cost £195 per hour plus travel. I got suspicious of travel time, as they could not tell me how much it would cost. We were put to someone else about 2 weeks later, she came back and she did not know what the travel charges are, she said we may get maintenance contract maybe, two weeks later today I had a call from someone to say that I cannot have maintenance contract if the machine is faulty and then she said their travel charge is min £195 and first hour labour £195. So if he leaves his office at 11am and be here by 11.15 and work until 12pm, 1 hour in all, I would pay almost £400 to repair a machine that I paid about £1, 000 a year ago. BEWARE OF PITNEY BOWES

Pitney Bowes Late fee charged for postage even though pb received my payment 5 days before due date

On 10/8/15, the day I received my monthly bill from PB Purchase Power, I logged onto my Bank website and immediately paid the bill using billpay through my bank. My bank processed the payment on 10/9/15. My bank states the payment was delivered to PB on 10/15/15. The due date was 10/20/15. I then received a bill from PB showing a late charge with interest of $55.45. I called PB and stated that they received my payment 5 days BEFORE the due date. The PB rep said that the payment is posted to the account only AFTER the funds clear (this makes no sense, of course.) There was never an issue of not having the funds in my account, apparently, they just wait for the funds to clear my bank which apparently took 8 days because she said the payment was posted on 10/23/15. I told her I would not pay a late fee and she said she would reduce the fee to $19. I then told her that as soon as our contract expired I intended to change companies and not use PB. It was only at this point that she changed her mind and decided to credit back the entire late fee. Very disappointed in Pitney Bowes, I will warn everybody I know not to use them. Unfortunately, I have over 2 years remaining on my contract with them.

Pitney Bowes Dishonest company, hidden charges and fees

Do not do business with this company!
Pitney Bowes is the most dishonest and disreputable company I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with in the 15 years we have been in business. The postage machine is obsolete for our business in this day and age, but we got locked into a 5 year lease and I still am not sure how they did it. They presented us with an undated lease form and insisted our lease was renewed for 5 years. Early termination fees for the lease were higher than the cost of the lease. A few years ago we put the meter on a shelf and continued to pay the lease until it was completed. They tried every way to trick us into signing up for another 5 years. One of the things they did was to send an official looking invoice, and on closer inspection the fine print read “payment of this invoice is your agreement to another 5 year lease”. An unsuspecting accounts payable clerk may very well just put this in for payment and inadvertently tie the company into another 5 year lease!
Customer service representatives only regurgitate back a rehearsed script and do nothing to actually help the customer or foster any kind of confidence that Pitney Bowes is in anyway interested in satisfied customers.
When our lease finally ended it did not get any better. They want you to hold onto the equipment until the bitter end, while they try multiple tactics to get you to resign a lease. I finally convinced them to send me the box for returning the meter, and lo and behold an invoice arrived for $100 for “Equipment Return Charges”. A look back on our original contract had no indication that we would incur this charge. A call to Pitney Bowes resulted in the usual script reading, where the agent admitted there was no amount listed for returned equipment charges on the contract, but that was the cost of shipping the unit UPS from Buffalo to Tennessee.
We decided to pay what amounts to an extortion charge just to be rid of this parasite of a company. With that I decided to do everything in my power to warn friends, neighbors, business contacts, and everyone else away from this awful company. Please heed my warning and DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS COMPANY.

Pitney Bowes Billing of machine after it was returned

We asked to terminate a rental contract. They kept on billing us alleging that we didn't return the machine promptly. But it was Pitney Bowes who was late in sending us the shipping box for the return of the machine. We mailed it immediately the next day after we received the box, still before the expiration of our lease.

They are still hounding me with robo calls non-stop even after i phoned them with my explanation. They won't even return our deposit unless we filed a claim, even though they acknowledged they had our deposit. What kind of company requires a customer to file a return for a deposit?

Pitney Bowes Charge to send meter back

My postage meter lease was finally up and I cancelled it today, but was told that I would have to pay the $85.00 fee upfront, or $100.00 is I chose to pay later, in order to get my meter back to Pitney Bowes.
What a rip-off. They overcharge on the rental, then to refill the postage they charge you, then they charge you to return the equipment.

I am so sorry that I ever used this company and will tell all my friends and business associates to not use them.

So much for helping the small businesses.
Bad choice on my part for ever signing up with them.

Pitney Bowes Postage meter

This is not a complaint, but more of a "beware" issue. I originally got involved with PB monthly rental and for 2 years had no problems. Suddenly, I got a phone call from the Sales Manger advising he can give me a great rate monthly rate, with no Canada Post Rate Change fees or download of postage fees. I advise I already have this, and was not interest in changing. So a few months later, he calls again. I advise the same thing. Next phone call, Sales Manager advises me, I need to sign a contract, but it is just for formality, nothing will change. I ask to have it sent over and I will review. First FLAG...Sales Manager called almost every week to ask if I have signed. Seemed very concerned for me to sign...Finally, I got mad and asked what is the big deal...why do I need to be rushed into signing this if nothing has changed? Then I read the fine print. Suddenly, I was no longer in a monthly rental agreement, it was a Lease agreement for 60 months (5 years). Two things about this...5 years is a long time and there is a big difference between Rental and Lease. Did I mention, there is no way out of contract either, unless you pay out the remaining of the Lease. Also, If you read the fine print, you have no options ever to anything they may do such as increase fees, charge for extras, whatever. So I call Sales Manager, advise not signing for 60 months, after much complaining, I get a new contract offer for 36 months. (3 years). I am promised that nothing else will change, no price changes, ect. Reluctantly, I sign the lease, because I don't have time to waste running around to the Post Office. Surprise, two weeks later, I get a notice in the mail that unless I can prove that PB is listed on my company insurance, I will start being billed for an additional $5.00 per month for insurance. So, I call Sales Manager and ask what this is about? I have company insurance, can I fax a copy? No, that is not good enough, it has to show that PB is listed...What a joke, my company fingerprints for the RCMP and I have very expense equipment of theirs and I didn't have to list them as insurance beneficiaries, but I have to jump through hoops for a postage machine. In hindsight, I wish I had not signed this new 3 year contract. I have a feeling that I am going to regret it...Hopefully, I am wrong. So, this is a notice of "beware". Running to the post office might not be a bad idea.

Pitney Bowes Refund request

we have had a credit balance of $333.68 on our account since mid-2011. i contacted pitney bowes multiple times since october 2011 for a refund. pitney bowes did not take any action except that they charged us an "inactive account" fee of $180.00 on april 3rd.

today, i spoke with evangeline, a supervisor at pitney bowes, about all this. evangeline's employee number is 892257. i repeatedly asked when pitney bowes could issue a refund check. evangeline was absolutely no help at all except that she is going to have the $180.00 fee reversed.

evangeline kept asking for me to fill out a refund request form from their website. i told her multiple times that we had already gone thru that plus we had made several refund requests by phone and by mail over the past 11 months. she would not give me a date as to when they would issue a refund.

it is not surprising that pitney bowes has such a low score on this website. to everyone out there...try to find some other company to work with. pitney bowes is a horrible company to deal with.

Pitney Bowes Illegal lease

Be Careful if Pitney Bowes sends you a contract! I downsized my company from 10 to 1 person (me) three years ago, and no longer needed a PB system. Lo and behold when trying to cancel my contract, I find out that PB send a lease renewal contract to a former employee who had no authority to do anything on behalf of the company. The Employee signed the lease two years ago when it was just myself and her. Turns out it was a FIVE year renewal lease. And at $200 per quarter, that was a $4, 000 lease for a POS postage printing machine. In speaking to PB regional sales manager, he advised that when employees sign those reneal leases, they are invalid. I shipped the system back, and said cancel everything and proved it with the signatures they illegally phished to get. Today, guess what, we get turned over to collections and so the war is between collections and my firm. Bring it on, suckers! Do things cheaper and do your research. AVOID this company like the plague - as that is the only way these guys will go out of business. Talk about hammering the good citizens of this country. Sad.

Your employee signed said lease on your behalf. It isn't up to Pitney Bowes to police your employees. If your assocaite signed the lease they acted on good faith that YOUR employee was doing the right thing for her company. What ever sales manager said the lease would be voided is incorrect. If the lease was used and paid for for two years the contract would be binding. Good luck fighting collections on this one.

Pitney Bowes Refunds

We had used PB equipment for well over ten years when our meter failed. PB sent a new one and we were not able to set it up because our office uses MACs, not PCs, and because of that couldn't download the PB software. We had to send in both the old machine and the new one. The old machine had a postage balance of over $300. For the past three months we have been looking for our refund check. We had emails on July 6th and August 18 that informed us the refund had been processed and we could expect a check within 10 days. We have spoken to well over a dozen PB reps promising to follow-up with a resolution and as of September 7th still no check! A fine example of customer no service and a customer left with no place to go except to vent on social media sites.
