Pier One / Closed my credit account

I paid off my credit card and did not have a need for anything. Now about a year later I went online to check my credit limit, then I headed to the store for some Christmas shopping. At checkout I was told there was a problem with my account, so they called customer service for me. I was told because I hadn't made a purchase in over a year they deactivated my account. I was never sent any type of notification, they are still reporting it as open to the credit bureaus, and it s still accesible online, but apparantly all that means nothing. If I would have still been paying on my card it would still be open. I do not know how this is even legal to do without some type of notification. Had I know I would have used the card more frequently.
