After numerous unproductive calls to the Magnavox Customer Support Line and as a last resort I have written a letter to Magnavox to demand a full refund for an LCD TV Magnavox LCD, Model: 32MF1D/37 Serial: BZ3A0609170320. I purchased this TV on 4/21/2006. The TV began having issues on 6/15/2006. The unit would not respond to the remote or to manual commands. The unit would turn off periodically by its self and/or the screen would go blank with the power remaining on. I have taken this TV to two separate repair shops. The TV sat in the first repair shop for a month and a half July 2nd thru September 1st, while Magnavox failed to ship the desired part, a CBA Sealer, to the authorized dealer. I then took the TV to a second repair shop, where the TV has currently been for a month and 1/2, hoping to have a better outcome. This repair shop is stating the same issue, that Magnavox has not sent the part. When I call Magnavox Customer Support I get absolutely no where. I have attempted to order the part myself directly from Magnavox and was turned away. Since Magnavox has stated they are unwilling to send me the part and for one reason or another Magnavox has been unable to send the part to the repair shop with in the 3 ½ months and counting I wrote a letter demanding a full refund. If I do not receive a response to resolve this issue I will be filing a claim in Florida against Magnavox in the amount of the TV. WARNING: Do not buy a Phillips/Magnavox product.

I posted a comment about five days ago and wanted to put the model number of my fine tv in(42mf231d/37) and vent a litte more. I called magnavox customer service one more time to complain and lo and behold the lady told me she would file a "concession" and send to he customer relations dept. for review. She told me to call back the next day which I did and they tell me that they are going to fix it! All I had to do was fax a copy of my receipt and they would get back to me. Why did they need my receipt this time when they fixed it the last time under waranty without it? I was skeptical and even more so when they did not get back to me. I called and guess what? they told me that the tv was too far out of warranty and can't help me. What a bunch of BS! Very dissapointing! I know that it would not have lasted long anyway but it would have bought me some time to save up for a new non-magnavox tv. Now all I have is a broken down $1200 tv that I paid a repair shop $50 to tell me $575 to fix the same problem as before and that it is not worth doing. $1200 for a year and half of problem free viewing. Thanks again magnavox!

we also have a 32MF231D/37, ours lasted 18 months. We called Magnavox up, and they would not do anything at all, cause it passed the 12 month warrenty. I repair electronics for a living, took the tv apart, found that 3 caps on the power supply were oozing. replaced these, and now its back to working. Its not hard at all to replace these parts, as long as your good soldering in parts.

Holy cow! My 42" plasma by Magnavox lasted less than 8 months before it took a dump. Magnavox did fix it under warranty(happy about that). It was in the shop for about a month and seemed to work fine for awhile( about 10 months) then boom! out goes the lights. Not under warranty anymore so "sorry can not help you." What a piece of crap. $50 for the same repair shop to look at it and total estimate of $575 to fix it. Thanks a lot magnavox for selling me a fine poduct that is now worth nothing but it sure makes a fine wall decoration. I should have did my homework! $1200 for a little over a year and a half of problem free viewing.

Same problem here. How can we find out if a recall is avaiable? We paid $1800 for this TV from Sam's Club 3 years ago and it takes 10 0r 12 tries to get it to turn on. Sometimes it turns off by itself. What was the cheap do it yourself fixit trick? I saw that someone did it but could not find what exactly he did? HELP!

same problem flashing light. started out just shutting off then turning right back on. then went to turning off and staying off for a minute or two or a half hour...tried to take it back to walmart but since it was over 90 days they wouldn't do anything. so i hooked it up using the stereo speakers and no volume on the tv and it didn't shut off as often. then it started taking longer and longer to turn on. JUST THAT DAMN BLINKING LIGHT! and now it won't do anything! paid $1300 for this tv less than 3 years ago. i hope an atty somewhere has this problem so we can get a recall going!

I have a 42 37mf23id magnavox and am interested in the radio shack repair option. My problem is when I attempt to turn on the tv I get the flashing green light, I can see the tv attempting to power up and can usually get it on after the third or fourth attempt. I fear the problem is degenerative and hope I can fix it with the radio shack part...any advice? Thanks z

I have a 42inch that I bought at target, it worked fine for over a year. My issue is this black blob, like a shadow. It is not a burn in spot either because it is growing. It started as a small black shade and i thought DAMN LCD'S DONT BURN IN?
Then this blob has grown. You can see through it and it is not that bad when watching cartoons but some other stuff it is really clear and annoying.
Anyone else having a Blob issue? When I look at it real close it looks like maybe there is dust inside the screen just building up but then i think thats cant be possiable. After reading all of this I guess anything is possiable.

My set turns on and off just fine. I have tried putting the TV on a full white screen and turned the brightness all the way up and no change. People have asked if I put a somthing magnetic on the screen. Come on man this is a TV not a Fridge why in the hell would i place anything magnetic on my tv!

Of course it is out of warranty and of course Magnavox was NO HELP. They blamed me when I called them! Like I would wait a year and then break my tv? WTF?

Anyone have any idea's?

If you all think it is a power issue like everyone else is having can someone PLEASE post a YOUTUBE video on do it yourself fix.
I am smart but I have not a clue what to look for once I open this bad boy up.

If you have fixed you TV PLEASE help everyone else by posting a video on how to fix it.

I purchased a 42" Philips plasma TV in 2004 for Christmas, at the time it was $3300. When it was hooked up using the HDMI cable it would not work at all, but I only tried that method of hook up in mid 2006. It would go into safety mode shut down. I l recently upgraded my satellite box to HD version, wanting to have best performance I again tried the HDMI hook up. This time the TV played for 5 minutes than went brown screen and shut off totally. Now it will not start up at all, keeps going to safety mode shut down. I contacted the Philips service help line. They informed me that an authorized repair shop should be able to help. I arranged for service call at a cost of $125 only to be advised that parts are no longer available for this set. It needs a main board and a power supply board most likely. Hearing this bad news I called Philips again only to be told this time, OH YES replacement parts are only supported by Philips for 2 years on all TV's. This sent me through the roof, asking why did you have me arrange for service call than? NO response except sorry. Who would ever buy a TV that has no replacement parts available after 2 years? I was also told I should have purchased an extended warranty for 5 years! It seems that Philips is more interested in extended warranty sales than making a reliable product that should last 10 years at least. I have a 27" Sony that is 20+ years old and still plays without problems. I will never buy another Philips product and will inform all my friend of my experience with Philips TV. I purchased another Sony! All TV buyers don't ever buy Philips products! Janis and Joe from Encino, CA.

Hi, just tried to turn on my 37" Magnavox lcd tv and guess what? it flickered for a few seconds and the power light started blinking. Now I am staring at a blank screen that I just finished paying for. no more warranty...this seems to be way too common place with Magnavox tv. I wish I had run across this web page before buying my set. I might not have believed everything that was written but just maybe i would have been a little leery and spent the extra hundred dollars and purchased another brand. Buyers Beware You Get What You Pay For. The best price does not always mean a great deal. Do your research, then buy... I will not buy another Magnavox product, nor will i recommend them to anyone else.

I want to thank all here for the help fixing my magnavox 37" LCD tv. I had the blinking light/no power problem. Replacing capacitor 2074 on the power supply board took about an hour and a half and worked perfectly. Calling Phillips was useless. I can't believe that they have no clue that their TVs are failing due to a design error. I do believe that they lied and tried to push me into spending hundreds of dollars on the repair.

I bought a 32" Magnavox (model no. 32MT3305/17) a few years back. It worked fine for a little under two years and than started turning off by itself. The power indicator came on but no picture or sound. Its been sitting on my basement floor for over a year now collecting dust.

I've been hoping to find a way to fix it myself but so far nothing.

My roomate and I bought a Magnavox 37 LCD TV about 18 months ago on sale for under $600. We were watching TV one day and it just went out. I've read anything and everything that I could find about this model. In every site the comments were all the same "my TV went out". So I called around to repair shops, half won't even take it in and the other half charges too much to fix it. So we decided to buy a new TV. Please stay away from this brand. The price was to good to be true.

i bought a cheap ### 32" magnavox, model# 37/mf321D/37 and serial # BZ3A0623370152 and the screen would suddenly turn green with volume still on and i had to retire this mfer for an hour or more to turn it back. When i bought this sucker 2yrs ago from wallmart, it was the last one on display for $850 and i feel bad coz i bit this old Grandma who wanted it, probably i save d her ### and had mine in trouble, look where i am today. This sucker wont turn on the power light would jus blinker like the TV is having a seizure or something, thanks to the Alimighty coz i had the chance to watch the Teelers and the Cardinals. Somebody has to come up with a website about DONT BUT MAGNAVOX LCD TV`s, they are junkies and i honestly think its a scam to peoples hard earned money especially during these hard times and the customer service sucks like the devil...NO MAGNACRAP AGAIN IN MY HOUSEHOLD, THAT BRAND NAME IS ON MY [censored]LIST...

I have a magnavox 32MF23ID. 3yr extended guarantee from sears. it stopped working after one year. It took sears over 3 months to fix it. The power supply! Now I have six months left on the guarantee and it's starting to go again. Dealing with sears is not easy and I took a lot of time off from work to wait for repair persons. If I hadn't spent $300 on the extended guarantee I could bought a similar tv for about $500 the first time it stopped working. I hope I can learn how to fix it myself because I have no confidence that any repair done will last.

Have a 42MF237S LCD. TV is still working, but for the last few months when i turn the thing off, minutes or hours later i'll be sitting on my couch and I'll hear a clicking sound coming from the TV. The thing looks to be trying to turn itself on, almost like a power surge, and then bang it turns off. It's just a 1 second click. It doesn't turn off while it's on thank god, mine seems to be doing the opposite of what others are complaining about. From reading all these reviews, the on to off problems seem to be coming from the 32-37 inch models. Strange... if you have the same model and the same problem call me [protected] we can call Magnavox together and complain, they might take the same complaint from multiple people more serious. There is power in number people. Everyone on here needs to exchange phone numbers and contact the manufacturer all together. My name is Sean Moore

I have same problem with my newly refurbished 37" LCD(Magnavox 37MF321D). Sat in a box for a couple months before Christmas time until I opened it. Noticed that it was a refurbished model upon opening it. Worked fine for about 15-30 startups. Now consistently won't startup on first attempt. Green light comes on and audio comes on with no picture. This morning it took me twenty minutes of off and on to get a picture. I haven't even had it for 30 days yet(yet it is out of its 90 day extended warranty from sitting in store and in my fathers house for 90 days combined).

I have hope that a recall will come as it is clear to me from numerous posts on the web, show without a doubt that these were defected units, and even when they are refurbished the problem isn't solved correctly. This being an electrical problem with a mind of its own says possible safety hazard to me. You would expect this behavior from a company that is a brand new company, but Phillips/Magnavox? Well next year when I give up my Christmas list to everyone I'm going to state "no magnavox or phillips of any kind. Not so much as a light bulb"

I believe there are many more postings on this website that are scattered about, referencing the same issue. On first look I believed these three pages(and growing) were the only posts. But on searching “magnavox” much more power related magnavox problems appear in different posts on this website.

I will review this forum for further news or action on this product.

Bought my 47" lcd model #47mf437B 13 months ago. Just quit working and will not come back on. Called service line and they were ###s. I work with the public so I was very nice to her. Warranty just ran out a month ago. Starting doing research online and seems magnavox sucks and this has been an ongoing problem. She refered me to a service center over an hour away. WHAT ABOUT HAVING A RECALL? Well, when I buy new tv will not be buying a magnavox.

I deal with the public so I was extremely nice. The only service center is an hour away. Looks like from internet research problem is a simple one just costly since a certified dealer need to look at it. Anyway I just wanted to write to let everyone know not to buy a magnavox! Like everyone else who bought the Magnavox 37" LCD TV Model No. 37mf231d/37, our TV would shut down inexplicably, would take multiple tries before powering on, would then power up to a blank screen, and now finally will not power on at all. Magnavox acted as if they'd never heard of this problem and then referred us to an outside contractor who charged us $90 just to walk in the door and now wants $300 to fix it. I don't think so. Having gone online and read all the complaints about this Magnavox disaster, I would rather do with my 13 year old Panasonic than pay someone to fix this piece of garbage, and I will never buy another Magnavox product again.

Hello all: Just an FYI...I filed a complaint with Consumer Affairs. Maybe all of you should do the same. Here is the link (https://www.consumeraffairs.com/php/a_report.php)

Don't know if it will help. But I also emailed every VP and media contact with Philips. I'll let you know the outcome. I can't believe the comsumer reports on this company! NEVER AGAIN WILL I PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THEM. I WANT THIS SITUATION RECTIFIED!

Well, I am now in the same boat as the rest of you. I purchased from TARGET a 42inch Plasma 3/23/07 and lately I’ve noticed I sometimes don't have sound when changing channels. Now to make matters worse. My TV suddenly began taking 25 sec to power up and 45 sec to power down. I paid $1, 299.00 for this set and did not purchase the extended warranty. Why should I? I should get more than a year and nine months out of a $1, 300 TV. I called Magnavox and they advised me to call an ASC, the nearest one to me is an hour away. This is a disgrace! I will never purchase their garbage again. Years ago, I purchased a camcorder from them, same drama. Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. If anyone is interested in a class action, let me know. Maybe we can get something started here. I work hard for my money to just give it away. They should stand behind their product and sounds like most of our issues are similar. My TV model number is Model Number: 42MF231D/37.

I have a Magnavox 37mf231d flat screen tv. The warranty, of course, has ended. I turned the TV off and went to bed. I got up an hour later to get a drink and noticed that the green light was flashing and also the tv, flashing light on the screen and the green light on and off. We now have to unplug it when we go to bed and wait the allotted minutes each morning to get it off. It's a fire hazard, I'm sure. We're afraid to leave it on when we go to bed or when we leave the house. It's a bad, bad situation.

We bought a Magnavox 42 inch LCD t.v. This unit seemed to work fine for about 9 mos. Now we have a dark line that runs right down the center of the screen. It is starting to have graying out areas running up and down the screen in other area as well. The lines are much more noticible on a darker screen. When there is a very brightly colored screen the lines are much fainter or unable to spot. As an electronic tech. I can only assume that this is a voltage problem controlling these segments of lcd's. From reading the other stories posted here I will not be attempting to get this hunk of crap repaired or replaced. I did tons of research on the different types of new tv's and which one would be the lowest pice, biggest screen, etc... I am not planning on buying anything from magnavox in the future, and would advise anyone not to buy this brand.

I have a 37MF231D/37 and tried the recommended repair and it DID work. $4.50 in a Radio Shack capacitor and about an hour was all it took. It took longer to remove the screws holding the back panel and circuit board cover than to make the actual repair. The circuit board is marked to find #2074 and using a pencil tip soldering gun, it was remarkably easy.

Having the same issue with my Magnavox television. It used to always go blank randomly... black screen but the tv was on. That rarely happens anymore. Now the menu comes up for no reason when I turn it on. I hit menu and you see the actual station for a sec then the menu comes back up. I have to normally wait about 10minutes after I turn the tv on before I can hit the menu button and the menu will actually stop turning back on. I will NEVER buy a Magnavox again... I'll spend a little more on a Sony product.

Phillips sucks ! Plain and simple. I bought a 60" rear projection for $1500 IN 2003, IN 2007 IT CRAPPED OUT. A common problem with convergence color board. Its a LEMON. 100's if not 1, 000's of people got screwed on this one. To bad they are not liable. They should make a Lemon law for TV's as well as cars ! Parts do occassionally fail but a common problem with there set they should fix. I will NEVER buy anoter Phillips product !

I bought the TV about 2 years ago from best buy, after 1.5 yrs, it started turning off automatically from minutes to seconds. I called philips consumer, they suggested me to update software, I did, but the turning off and on is still in senconds. I think manufacture should do a recall, law should protect consumers.

I bought my 37in LCD Magnavox in Dec of 2006 from Walmart for 995.95. Within a year and a half it was toast. The menu would pop up and stay, the TV would turn itself on, and it would change channels on it's own. I got about 10 seconds of stable viewing at a time before it would act possessed.

I called the customer service center. I installed the update. Didn't work. No help at all there except a referal to an out-of-town repair shop that quoted me a $500.00 repair and no guaratees that the problem wouldn't come back in the future.

Thanks a lot Magnavox. I'm more than prepared to let the world know that you suck, and that you can't even give a the tinest bit to the people who where burned by suporting your company. I guess that you'll be going out of this business soon - and you don't care what people think. Word of mouth travels fast - and I was sure to let the customer service man know.

i ACTUALLY FOLLOWED UP WITH THE SUGGESTION THAT YOU CAN REPAIR IT YOURSELF VIRTUALLY FREE BY PURCHASING SOME VERY CHEEP PARTS FROM A "RADIO SHACK".HERE IN CANADA WE LONGER HAVE A RADIO SHACK BUT MY HUBBY WENT TO AN ELECTRONIC SHOP AND BOUGHT THE PARTS FOR UNDER $5.00 . WE HAD NOTHING TO LOOSE AFTER HAVING A VIRTUAL USELESS TV! GUESS WHAT, WE ARE NOW WATCHING OUR TV AGAIN!YAY AND THANKS FOR THE HELP! NO PROBLEMS AND THE T.V TURNS ON FINE. AS FOR THE COMPANY, YOU BITE THE BIG ONE AND I WILL TELL ANYBODY WHO WILL LISTEN. THE IRONIC PART IS AFTER MY HUSBAND REPAIRED THE TV, WE FOUND THAT WE ACTUALLY HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT WE HAD FORGOTTEN ABOUT SO THE ###S WOULD HAVE HAD O HONOR THE REPAIR ANYWAY! PLEASE TRY AND FOLLOW THE SUGGESTIONS FROM THIS SITE, IT WILL COST YOU LITTLE AND AT THE VERY LEAST, GIVE YOU SOME USE OUT OF A PRODUCT YOU PURCHASED!

Same as most, purchased a 27 inch LCD, have had it for a bit over a year and won't even turn on. I've been told it will be aprox 500.00 to fix it at the very least.
I called several depts of the Philips and got the same response, too bad, sucks to be you, out of warranty.
Ironically, I attempted to contact the corporate officers and got my e-mails returned as the management will not accept e-mails from unknown addresses.
I could care less if the product cost $20.00, $200.00 or $2000.00, a reputable company should consider the issues of the consumer if the fault is with the product!
I even threatened to put an article in the newspaper to express my disatisfaction and was told to have a nice day!

I bought a 32 inch lcd tv approximately 18 months ago, the tv kept cutting off so I took it to a repair shop and they said it would cost over 400.00 to have it repaired. (signal board). Called magnavox and all they would say is sorry, your waranty has expired.
