After numerous unproductive calls to the Magnavox Customer Support Line and as a last resort I have written a letter to Magnavox to demand a full refund for an LCD TV Magnavox LCD, Model: 32MF1D/37 Serial: BZ3A0609170320. I purchased this TV on 4/21/2006. The TV began having issues on 6/15/2006. The unit would not respond to the remote or to manual commands. The unit would turn off periodically by its self and/or the screen would go blank with the power remaining on. I have taken this TV to two separate repair shops. The TV sat in the first repair shop for a month and a half July 2nd thru September 1st, while Magnavox failed to ship the desired part, a CBA Sealer, to the authorized dealer. I then took the TV to a second repair shop, where the TV has currently been for a month and 1/2, hoping to have a better outcome. This repair shop is stating the same issue, that Magnavox has not sent the part. When I call Magnavox Customer Support I get absolutely no where. I have attempted to order the part myself directly from Magnavox and was turned away. Since Magnavox has stated they are unwilling to send me the part and for one reason or another Magnavox has been unable to send the part to the repair shop with in the 3 ½ months and counting I wrote a letter demanding a full refund. If I do not receive a response to resolve this issue I will be filing a claim in Florida against Magnavox in the amount of the TV. WARNING: Do not buy a Phillips/Magnavox product.

I too have a Magnavox LCD television that has gone bad. Looking at the main circuit board, I found three faulty capacitors. This is a common problem in the electronics industry. I see this frequently in computers.

I encourage anyone to search online for "bad capacitors" "world wide capacitor problems" "capacitor plague" or something similar for more information about this problem.

I bought a magnavox t.v about 2 years ago and never had a problem till recently. About a week ago i went to turn the t.v on and it started to turn on and power up but before the picture showed it shut off. We were unplugging it and plugging it back in again and that worked for a while but then this week i went to turn it on and it wont turn on. Its not turning on at all. The t.v is only 2 years old and i bought it new. im not happy about it, does anyone know if it can be fixed or how much it would cost to fix. And this company sucks they had to know these t.vs were ### and they sold them anyways. Someone should sue.

I bought a magnavox about 2 years ago and just recently it started with problems.
i never had a problem till now.. when i go to turn it on it starts to turn on and power up but before the picture shows it powers off again. We were unplugging it and plugging it back in and that seemed to work for a bit then just the other day i tryed to turn it on and it wouldnt turn on. Its only 2 years old, i bought it brand new and its dead already. I was hoping it was a problem i could fix but i havent figured anything out yet. Does anyone have any ideas on how i can try and fix it or if it can be fixed. Id really appreciate it. This company sucks.. they had to know these tv's were ###.. and yet they sell them anyways. Today Philips announces a product and then three months later they have recalls, everything they build, service, or touch turns to ### in the United States. 20 years back at least they could make a TV, now so can everyone else on the planet. Just some of the dumbest business managers on the planet. They outsourced IT, to focus on business, have not got a clue how to do that either. In twelve years since they focused on business they have not made any money in the states. They have a Global Operations VP named David Crow, beer gut, smoker, who married a hotty from Thailand, he thinks he will take over other PHILIPS accounts but they can't manage the one they have now. 45 hours of unplanned down time, 2 1/2 response times for ERP. Still have no clue about global 24/7 environments, the need for one ERP database, highly configured source code from SAP, to dumb to compare what they have to SAP best practices baseline to put into perspective. Just the worst run IT program, with business products with very low quality and short mean time between failure. They went from cheap labor in the states, to INDIA and China for IT and manufactoring. Google a Philips product and you will see Philips won contract, followed by PHILIPS announces major recall.

Like everyone else, I purchased a Magnavox 50" plasma television from Walmart less than 3years ago for a little under $2500.00. Now the television fails to turn on. The television clicks, the green light comes on for a few seconds then the red light replaces the green light and flashes 4 consecutive times, stops and again 4 consecutive times. I will try the "do it yourself option". I see in the US, there is a class action lawsuit being set up against Phillips/Magnavox. (Following link refers : http://www.classactionfaq.com/defective-products/plasmatv/) I've submitted my name in hopes that something comes out of it.

A recall is definitely in order!

I am having the same issue as everyone else. 42in., cuts on and off, bought 2 years ago. I have to turn the thing on and off to get sound. Use to happen once a week now every ten minutes. Sometimes makes popping sound and screams like a banshee. No Magnavox products ever again.

I purchased the Magnavox 37 lcd tv model 37mf321d/37 ( i know now what the "M.F" stands for). Bought it about two years ago as a christmas present to myself with a 20% walmart employee discount. It still cost me about $900 dollars of my blood, sweat and tears. Yesterday [protected]) the tv began to flicker like a strobe light. I thought since I was watching syfy channel it was part of the show until I changed the channel and saw the same thing. It cleared up after turning power off and back on, only to go out all together 45 minutes later. I tried calling the service center and they told me to download the software update and apply it to the tv usb port, wait for the screen to tell you it was updated and all would be well. I dont like calling people stupid, but if the screen will not come on how am I suppose to read the screen...god bless how stupid are these people. I used to love magnavox and still have the old crt type 27 inch tv that works in the guest room...only paid $279.00 dollars I might add. Knowing that calling the magnavox repair center would only make me made and probably say something I would have to repent later, I decided to call a repair shop because magnavox will not help you located an authorized repair center. Everyone that I called gave prices that sounded reasonable at first, but quickly let you know that was only going to be the price for telling you later that it would cost more than the tv cost or at least more than buying a new one at today's prices. All I can say is magnavox and comsumer reports let me down as I checked and found that tv as one of their top models before deciding to make the purchase. I intend on placing a link to this page on the youtube sites that talk about magnavox and I would suggest everyone else do the same, and with enough support magnavox and phillips will have to reinvent their self or go out of business for selling this crap.

Bought a 50'' Phillips with the ambient lighting, lucky for me I purchased an additional 3 years on the warranty, roughly 1 month before it expired the tv would go off then on and then half the screen would go black. Mack camera did the repair. Then 3 month's later the settings screen poppped up out of nowhere and as hard as you try you cannot remove it. I was told it was the ssb board $500.00 just for the part another $300.00 to install it. No way am I sinking more money into this peice of %^&*(*. Went to Costco and bought a Sony 52'' for $1200.00 .There is a class action lawsiut against Phillips, do a little research and sign on. Spread the word about Phillips. I just emailed the local news in Phila and told their consuner reporter about all the problems. Hopefully they will do a story.

Our 37" Magnavox was having the same issues posted here. Blinking light. My husband and I FIXED it for only $5 and an hour of our time. People stop complaining and give it a try. What do you have to loose? It was a very easy fix.You will need to remove the old capacitor, solder the two wires on the new one in then put it all back together. That is it. If you feel unsure about where to put parts back, take pictures for review. I used the same 2200 @ 35v capacitor like the person that posted the pics from this site.

i have a Magnavox model number 37MF331D/37 also and i was having problems turning it on and off the last few days and now it won't even turn on! The only thing happening is the green light on the power button flashes. I called Magnavox and of course they told me to take it to get serviced! I have only had this T.V. for 3 years! We bought the t.v. from Sam's club and i called them and come to find out that when we purchased the t.v. they had a 100% guarantee on all t.v.s purchased from them. They told us that we can bring in the t.v. for a full refund or credit what ever we chose to do! They no longer have that policy in place but since they had it when we purchased the t.v. they still honored it! So i suggest to anyone who has purchase there defaulty t.v. from Sam's Club to call them and ask them about their 100% guarantee policy. I hope this benefits anyone having the same problem with their Magnavox t.v. who purchased it from Sams Club.

Last week I took out my PC monitor cable from my Magnavox 32" LCD tv before leaving for vacation. When I came back, I put back the cable, and I got a black screen. Nothing displays out. I tried to find out the solution from the internet, then I saw so many people complain about this company. I feel lucky that I enjoyed this TV for 3 years. Now, I decide to trash this TV without thinking about spending another penny on this. Thank you for everybody's story. This is the other thing I enjoyed from this company product.

I had similar problems with my 42" Philips HD LCD. Two years old, one day no picture, just sound. Repair shop says it's a coil and display board, cost to repair $400.00. He also told me he sees alot of these sets with the same problem, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON PHILIPS! BUY A SONY!

Add us to the list, as well. We also have a "disposable" 42" Magnavox LCD Model tv. (model 42MF231D/37) And, just like everyone else, we too bought our (now non-working) tv 2 years ago. After 3 hours of google searches I found this website and wanted to put my two cents in. I think it's really disappointing that Magnavox has treated their customers with such poor customer service and sold these worthless tvs that we've all invested in. We went with, what we thought, was a reputable company instead of going with these newer brand names. Shame on us for trusting Magnavox. I have an older television that I've had for probably 20 years that still works. I think my Mom said she paid maybe, 50.00 for it, but I spent 1200 on my tv that BARELY made it 2 years. Magnavox, you have lost the "Trusted Household Name" that you once carried. I will tell every person I meet, email, or chat with about your disposable tvs and the LACK of care or customer service that you have given me and the 500 other people on this website. Please contact me if you have any information regarding the class action lawsuit against Maganavox. Once I'm done with this message...I'm posting one on facebook and asking my 300 friends to tell their 300 friends to spread the word about Magnavox's disposable television.

We are in the same boat! our 37" tv is only 2 yrs old and we have the same problems. Long time to get a picture, powers off and it is so annoying! We bought ours from Sam's Club too.BIG MISTAKE! And they are still selling them! It was my birthday gift. I will never buy Magnavox again. You can not reach anyone at Philips! The parts department will not order parts except for 2008 & 2009 tv. The CBA sealer is on backorder with no shipping date available. The part cost $158.19 plus $100 core cost (refundable)--noy counting the servicemans COST to install it! Which also tells me YOU PART IS A REBUILT-NOT NEW! We should all get together & hurt Magnavox but letting all other consumers know-DO NOT BUY PHILIPS?MAGNAVOX TVS!
We should contact the media & file a class action suit! This is horrible to do to people during hard times!

We have a 19" Magnovox FLAT SCREEN TV. It is 1-1/2 years old. WE ARE BUYING A NEW REPLACEMENT TODAY - AND NOT, NOT A MAGNOVOX! THE MAGNOVOX HAS A MIND OF IT'S OWN. WON'T TURN ON, WON'T TURN OFF, NO SOUND, PICTURE MOVING SIDEWAYS, ODD COLORS SWEEPING BY, ETC. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT FOR THE LAST SIX MONTHS AND NOW, FORGET IT, IT WON'T STAY ON. IT IS HEADED TO THE TRASH! ANYONE OUT THERE THAT IS CONSIDERING A MAGNOVOX SHOULD BE FOREWARNED!
IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK!

JUST CALL CUSTOMER SERVICE TODAY FOR THE SAME PROBLEMS. TV WILL POWER BACK ON AFTER BEING TURNED OFF AT NIGHT, NO PICTURE JUST A FLASH OF LIGHT, THEN AFTER ABOUT FIVE SECONDS IT REPEATS THIS PROCESS...YOU HAVE TO UNPLUG IT AT NIGHT...
CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY COULDN'T EVEN PULL MY MODEL UP ON THE COMPUTER BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. MODEL #37MF321D37 SERIAL # BZ3A0651671087... ADVISED ME TO GO TO THERE WEB SITE AND SEE IF THERE WAS A FIXDOWNLOAD THAT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM...WELL IF I CAN DO THIS WHY CAN'T THEY. I AGREE THIS IS THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE SEEN AFTER TALKING WITH 2 DIFFERENT PEOPLE. I DO THINK THEY JUST HAVE SOMEONE MANNING PHONES.
I WILL ALSO NOTIFY CONSUMER AFFAIRS ABOUT THIS. SEEMS TO ME THERE IS ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEMS THAT PHILIPSMAGNAVOX SHOULD HAVE TO REPAIR EVERY LAST ONE TV.
THIS MODEL TV HAS ALL THE CHANNEL BUTTONS ECT. ON TOP OF THE TV, BE AWARE OF THIS IF YOU ARE MOUNTING IT. IF SOMETHING WERE TO HAPPEN TO THE REMOTE YOU WILL HAVE TO GET A CHAIR OUT TO CHANGE THE CHANNELS OR TURN SOUND...SEEING THAT THIS TV BELONGS TO MY 80 YEAR OLD MOTHER THAT WOULD BE QUIT A TASK FOR HER...

I grew up with Magnavox...it was what my mom always purchased, so three years ago when my husband and I decided to buy a big screen we went with Magnavox, we bought a 50" not a plasma but were very excited and we bought it at Sam's (huge mistake). Two years later the heat lamp went out, called Magnavox replaced the bulb for almost $300.00 a year later (last Sat) lamp went out again replaced it at local repair shop for $129.00 last night we sit down to watch tv and we hear this loud sound like a motor of some kind came on all of a sudden there's a popping and crackling sound coming from the tv, we unplugged it have no idea what it is and wonder "is it worth trying to get it fix". I guess Magnavox isn't what it use to be. I've always stayed away from unknown companies maybe I should stay away from known companies.

My 32MF231D/37 just quit also. Half of the screen started going blank once in a while a few weeks ago. That stopped and then I started getting colored lines when I powered it on. That would stop after a minute or 2 and everything would be fine. This weekend it finally went all black - no picture at all. Green power light is on but can't get any picture at all. I am also very disappointed and will never buy Magnavox again. This TV is a little over 3 years old and is out of warranty and like everyone else it sounds like I'm out of luck.

I had the blinking light problem and I read thru several sites like this one. On one of those (not sure which since I read so many) I saw the problem was the capacitor located on the circuit board marked # 2074. I decided to give it a shot and got it to work. Paid about $5 for the capacitor @ Radio Shack and used some solder paste with the flux mixed in (already had that from Lowe's). Even though I can't solder for you know what...My TV works great now. I took some picts and you can see them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/42205742@N02/
They aren't in the right order, but they may help. Good luck!

I too have a 37 inch Magnavox and I am extremely disappointed. When it is powered off, it sometimes takes hours to get it to come back on. Last night our power went out and the TV was off for a couple hours. I still haven't gotten it back on. The power light blinks and the screen flashes once in a while. I wish I had found this web site earlier.
