Petco unfair termination/ wrongful termination

i was fired over the phone today for callin in due to my grandfather being hospitalized & me not having a babysitter. my manger faced booked me to call the buisness & that i did. she asked how he was doing & i asked her so do i show up tomarrow @ 8 am for my scheduled shift? she then told me no. i asked to talk to the store manager & asked the same question. he told me not to show up because my paperwork for termination had already been sent to h.r... come to find out you cant be terminated over the phone. it has to be in black in white & with this al said. i was never written up. next month will be my 2 year anniversary with the company & i feel as tho this is not right.maybe im wrong, i dont know but that company does a whole lot of stuff wrong. includeing takeing out coupons used from there groomers paychecks with out letting them know how much is being taken. also i was harrased by a previous manager who insisted me go see the companys own dr because he felt i had mental issues. & also told me to go home & smoke a bowl of marijuana to make me feel better.

Petco rude employee & managers

I have spent thousands of dollars at 2 petcos in the new orleans area. A few months ago I was buying some fish food and an girl by the name of sarah confronted me and said I was stealing. She called the police, I was searched and sent to jail. The funny thing is I did not steal, and the officer did not find anything on me. When I went to court I was obviously found not guilty. The judge actually laughed at this girl in her face. I decided not to go to the kenner Petco anymore, so I started to go to the one in Metairie. To my suprize this girl was transferred their and was the new manager. I went in their a few nights and the girl came up to me and was horribly rude. I was obviously furious. I was on the verge of pressing charges against both her and the company for false accusations against me but decided not to go through with it.

If you shop at this petco, you may want to shop at petsmart instead, their prices are lower and their animals are in beter shape.

Also I sould mention that before any of this started whenever I would buy fish they always dies within a few days, that has not happened to me at any other pet-store to me before. I have a large salt water tank and would advise others not buy from their. One other thing is that many of their pets such as dogs began getting sick and died from petco because they would have their animals neutered with dull cutting instruments.

Petco is not a good place, their employees are mostly rude and in experienced and the company itself has no care for the animals they sell. They only care about the bottom line.
If you ask me they are cruel to their animals.

I call bs but the sw fish dying isn't the stores fault. Petco chooses to use ### vendors to supply its animals. Most of the animals that petco gets are bottom of the barrel because the company doesn't want to spend the money on quality so they most likely negotiated a low ball deal with the vendors to save the corporate ### hats a few bucks. At least this is from a stores point of view. Btw petco has a strict policy about approaching anybody suspected of stealing, basically we can't do anything unless you are an associate who gets caught stealing. If you are a customer, you can losd up a shopping cart full of product and walk out the front door.

I had to read your lies one more time. What makes a person make up this terrible of a lie. Also any real salt water enthusiast knows petco isn't the best but sometimes is the only option. You need to understand that deformation of any kind is illegal.

Petco doesn't sell dogs and cats so how could they possibly be neutering them, they are also not a vet and don't neuter. you my dear are a compulsive liar, and you do realize that the sw fish are caught in the ocean and then sent to petco where you buy them and then kill them so don't blame petco blame yourself for supporting the sw trade.

Petco unprofessional service

Do not go to this store for grooming!

I took my dog for a grooming appointment at this petco store and received the most horrendous service. Not only did they charge me more than what they quoted on the phone, they kept extending the amount of time I had to wait for my dog, first from 3 hrs to 4 hrs then to 5.5 hrs. When I finally said that I needed him to be done soon, they said ok. Then when I picked him up, they charged me an extra $12 for "special handling" and "dematting" because they said he was giving them a hard time. My dog is 4 lbs! Even after speaking w/ the asst manager and general manager, they still insisted on charging the extra fees. Their tone was very rude and unprofessional. The first thing that they said when we walked in the door was "he's never coming back here again." not only is my dog small and harmless, he's been to other groomers in the past and has never had any issues. These people are just horrible and only after your money. I've called corporate to file a complaint. Hopefully something happens.

When you're paying for a service for your dog, that business SHOULD love your dog during the time said dog is in their possession! As I always tell my clients, never never never go to a pet store groomer. They usually hire inexperienced groomers or ones freshly out of grooming school. You get what you pay for, so pay the extra money and take your dog to a actual grooming salon.

Petco fish tanks have many many dying and dead fish floating.

I am extremly upset about the conditions I found at the Skokie location Petco store. The fish tanks exhibit large quantities of dead gold fish floating. The fish tanks are in dissary. I spoke to a clerk there and seemed to be the only personnel present at 6:30pm on Wesnday May 18, 2011. The expanation I got that he;the clerk; can not do anything about the terrible conditions the fish tanks are in. He claim it is up to managemt. He also claimed that the manager takes off quite often;leaving no one there to clean up and check the conditons of the animals that are left at this store. The customers that go to this store are animal lovers. If they see the condition of this store; you will rack up more complaints than what you can handle. Please have someone with authoriy check the coniditons of this store.

Unfortunately, that associate is telling the truth. I used to work for Petco, and they treat their employees like dirt. Management is awful and unorganized; corporate isn't any better. Associates would get penalized or fired for trying to get more involved in making positive changes in the store... So please don't take your anger out on the associates... Complain to the higher-ups at corporate and management. They're the ones who screw it all up.

Petco multiple

This evning myself, and my 2 teenage children visited The Auburn N.Y. Petco to Purchase fish. Our family has multiple pets. 4 olde english bulldogges, one english bulldogge. Three aquariums with multiple fish, oscars Mollies. ect. I was sickened at what I saw. Two of the stores tanks one with tigar oscars, and the secound with albino oscars that were suffering from who knows what. These fish were in such poor condition their fins were rotting, and had wholes in their body. The condition of these fish were appauling, and to say the least inhuman. My daughter was heart broken, and had to leave the store. I moved on to look at other things, and find my son. He was watching some mice. We were approuched by a store employee with a tan shirt. (Robyn) (Robin) Who did not ask if she could help or assist us. She stated " I don't want you taking pictures in here. " I turned and asked her if she was talking to Us. meaning myself and my son. She stated "Yes" ' .I In return asked (Robin) what makes you think we are taking pictures? With no responce she started to walk away. Upset at this point at the conditions of how the fish tanks were, and then to have a petco employee accuse us of taking pictures. I then asked her what was being done to help the sick fish. She was completely unawere of any sick fish. Keeping in mind this is the person who in charge of the store. The person who is to be accountable for this store, it's employees that work under her, and the living creatures that rely on those people to care for them. Robin displayed no type of people skills let alone managing skills. I laugh the fallowing question states to attach any photo. Robin doesn't allow photos in her store. I wonder why? My family left this store distraught. My concern is how the person responsible for this store was completly unawere of fish that were I quote "ON WATCH". The condition of the fish didn't happen in a matter of minutes, or hours. I found (robin) to be rude, unpleasent, and uninformed. Her communication skills were extremly poor. Date of this inncident is 05/13/11. time about 7-730Pm. I think i will start to shop eleswere. Apperently Petco managers don't have to set or be the example. Thank you for time Paulette Dahl 26 Liberty street Auburn N.Y. 13021. E-mail [protected]@gmail.com . Sales must be great at Robins store . If this is how they treat people, How are the animals really treated?

Petco no customer service

On 4/28/11 @ 11:55 am, i went into the petco store @ the mall of georgia. i was their to purchase a battery for my dog's petsafe collar. i had called the previous day and confirmed that they had the item in stock. i asked the employee, raynisha, for the item of which was locked in a display case. i was told they a night manager took the keys home with him and that was the only key they had and that the manager would not be in until 4 pm and i would have to come back. raynisha and a unidentified male employee stated that the night manager often takes the keys home with him. i was amazed at how unconcerned these employees acted. i was furious that i made a 25 mile trip to this store for a item that the store had and that i could not buy. the employees offered no apology or nothing. petco lost a sale for the battery, and for a 50 pound bag of dog food and a box of k-9 advantage 2. they lost $70.00 in sales due to their incompetence. i called petco customer service, a jerry in the philippines, answered my call. i gave him all the details and asked that a manger for petco call me. jerry took all details and said that he would escalate this complaint to a general manager. 24 hours later, i have not received any response. i also sent a email to their customer service link on the petco website on 4/28/11. i did receive a confirmation that they received my email. no other response received

You haven't received a call back because your complaint is not worthy of escalation. As someone who worked as an escalation manager for a retail company, I can tell you that we will respond to cases in the order of actual, highest importance on down. Your complaint is based on someone made a mistake and took home the key, which happens. Off the top of my head, I can think over about 20 day-to-day issues that can occur at any retailer that I would put ahead of your case. The phone agent that escalated your case did that just to get you off the phone.

Let me save you some time. I'll pretend to be the manager. "I do apologize Mr. Lawson for your trouble. I will speak to the night manager and the employees of that location about the poor service you received. I can offer you a coupon for some amount (probably less than 20% off) off your next purchase."

Here's my advice:
1. Stop going off the deep end over little things like this that happen every day. Life is way more enjoyable when you stop letting every little thing bug you.
2. Take your business elsewhere, but do so realizing that this kind of thing happens everywhere.
3. Just chill.

Petco rude sales associates

As I was leaving after making my purchases, I stopped to look at the cats for adoption. There was an associate at the side of the cages, and apparently someone stole her personality. Not only did she insinuate herself into a conversation I was having with another customer, discussing my Main Coon at home, she proceded to "inform" me what kinds of felines weren't in the cages, getting rude by telling us in loud voice' "don't touch those cages, that's why the signs are up." Unfortunately, neither myself nor the other customer were any where near the cages. My suggestion - if you hate your job, and you are miserable, please, stay out of the public eye. She cost this company two customers. Consider that my cat is renal, and I make many purchases in a month's time, not only for my pet, but also for my friends' dogs. I will make certain to convey to all pet owners that their money is better spent at PetSmart, where they hire associates that enjoy their jobs. I hope her minimum wage position was worth the business they lose.

Well first off good luck finding help at a petsmart, while they do hire more associates, they aren't exactly in the customer service line of work. Second yes Petco pays way too low, people think walmart is bad, if they only knew how bad petco associates were paid and treated. Third, her personality is exactly how petco wants it to be, lacking to say the least. Petco wants to have its stores robotic and sterile, no fun, no personality, no individualism, all stores the same. Fourth, petco isn't known for hiring standards. I would put them slightly about walmarts, you have to have a few more teeth to work at petco. And lastly, are you sure this lady even worked for petco? Is it possible that she worked for the adoption group that had cats up for adoption? Most petco stores do not have cats on site permanently and if they do its the adoption groups responsibility to care for and promote the adoptions so the lady could have very well been a volunteer.

Petco no refund/exchange for hamster cage

Store sold me a hamster cage that was destroyed by the hamster: she got out 3 times. I had the receipt and the cage went in within a month of buying the cage and they said they could not do anyhthing.

I called petsmart and they said they would refund me or exchange for another cage

Petco does not care if your pets can get injured through escaping.

I'm going to cancel my insurance policy on my car and drive it into a wall. Honda should be the one to replace. Thank you for this awe-inspiring post of logic that has been held back from the masses. I always knew that my actions weren't my own fault but was unsure how to express that. You have freed me from my oppressive shackles, and I thank you.

Also, why the hell would petsmart refund or exchange a cage from petco? Why would you even call petsmart?

Petco killed all my fish!!!

We went to our local petco and bought a pleko fish to add to our 2 year old aquarium with 3 hardy 3"goldfish.
4 days after we introduced the seemingly healthy pleko, all of our goldfish have died. The pleko had velvet! Of course he's the one who survived this whole ordeal even after immediately starting treatment once the fish were behaving differently.
WE ARE FURIOUS! I cannot believe that they do not maintain their fish better! Our fish were so healthy and happy and we are extremely saddened by their deaths.
All the petco had to say was"not our fault" when we went seeking help and SHOCK! they were all out of disease treatment for fish. It didn't bother any of the associates that our fish have suffered because they don't give two [censored]s about maintaining their aquariums.
I'm not attatching pictures because I did not take any. The fish looked absolutely horrific.

First guy said I will too. Plecos are a warm water fish. Goldfish are coldwater. If you know what velvet looks like then why did you buy him in the first place. Do you realize a common pleco can reach 3ft in length. Your fault not the stores. If it was true velvet then all their fish would be sick. Blame yourself not the store.

Petco animal cruelty

Do not take your pet here if you love your pet! I recently took my 4yr old boxer to the rapid city, sd petco (Boycott please!) for a routine grooming, just a basic bath and nails. When I returned to get my dog, I watched in horror as the "well trained" employee began to put my dogs spike collar over his head by sliding it onto his head (Not simply unclasping it!) I banged on the window and asked him what he was doing, and he told me he took it off the same way! R u serious u work at a pet store? A spike collar is meant to tighten as it moves up a dogs neck toward their ears and this guy just forced it off my dogs head? If u work at a pet store and cant work a pet accessory maybe u should ask someone 4 help! 2 days later I noticed my dog acting weird and took him 2 the vet, he has a swollen ear canal and is in noticeable pain, still 2 weeks later, when I address petco they give me a huge run around, when I look at my receipt they also overcharged me (Imagine that) sold me 12 cans of food more than I bought. Petco doesnt want to pay the $200 in vet bills I got from taking my dog there for a $35 bath, (Where he didnt even come clean) they seem to enjoy spending money on lawsuits instead. Go google petco lawsuits before you shop there again. Boycott petco!

My son and I dropped by the Petco off of Pleasant Hill road, Duluth for turtle food and supplies. We came by a tank that contained about 9 turtles. About everyone of the turtles had injuries to the neck, more likely from fighting. There were turtles that was still bleeding and some that was so badly injured and the bit was so deep that you can see flesh.
We asked the manager to please separate the turtles from further injuries from fights and allow them time to heal. He insured me that he will take care of it, but I guess the question is, why have he not done this earlier? And will he really do something about it? Or is he just trying to brush me off.
It's very disturbing to see the cruelty on these turtles and the entire store seems to not even care about it. It's scary to think what other animals are being mistreated in this place that we don't know about.

Your an idiot for having a spiked collar on your dog anyways. Even using it daily can be very damaging on the neck/spine of a dog ESPECIALLY a boxer who are prone to all kind of health issues. Spike collars are a lazy mans cure to a untrained dog.

Petco rude groomers and they do horrible work

I took my dog to Petco today to get groomed and shaved. The groomer there was Pscyho. She said it would take 2 hours and it took 5. After two hours when I called her on the phone she yelled at me and said she's busy. When I went to pick her up she was nasty in front of customers and would not even let me look at my dog. They did not shave her pads, they nicked her several times and they are just plain RUDE and there was no manager there to see what happened but another worker who claimed he was an assistant manager saw it all and never even apologized. I'll go to another groomer next time. If you must go to a pet store groomer your better off at PESTMART

Petco rude store managers and disgusting conditions for animals

Well, I can see that Im not the only one in Mtn. Home who is fed up with our local Petco store and their horrible service. I went into the store again after several months of not visiting and had an even worse experience than last time.

I went in to the store in September 2010 to get assistance in the fish dept as I do a few times a month. I usually deal with Wesley, but he was not available so Laurie asked me if I needed help. When I told her yes, she was very rude like I was inconveniencing her and she told Barbara to help me. Barbara did not know anything that I was asking about, so I asked when Wesley was scheduled to be back in. Barbara left to check his schedule, and Laurie returned to me and yelled at me that I had no right to ask Wesley's schedule and she said that she wasn't even sure that he was coming back. I was very tired of Laurie's attitude by then so I asked to speak with the manager. She said that she was the only manager and if I needed to complain about her, she's the only one I can complain to so no one is going to do anything about it. I left the store then and I called back a few times during the weekend and the following week to speak with Wesley to get my questions answered, and no one will tell me when he may be available.

3 different associates avoided answering this simple question when I they have given me this info previously. I made my complaint on Petco.com and I received an automated response that it was being investigated, but I never heard anything more from them. If I had only looked on here sooner, I could have found out what happened to him since he has made complaints too along with another store worker! That is so pathetic that a current employee can't even be heard by their employer and has to sneak around anonymously reporting them to get anything done.

I had to suck it up and visit the store again recently because it's the only place that my son can buy a mouse for his snake now. Petco caused all of the mom and pop stores in our community to shut down.
I just wanted to get in and out with the mouse, and I had trouble finding an associate to help me. When I told my son that we may need to come back another time, a woman who did not appear to work there came up and asked if I needed help. I told her that I just need to buy a mouse for my son's snake, and she said "oh, you can't do that". I asked who she was and if she worked there, and she said "I'm the manager's mom, but I know that they won't sell mice for food". I told her rather sarcastically "Thanks for the info, but we have bought mice for food here before". She said, "Well, my daughter is working today, and I can tell you that she will NOT sell you a mouse." I asked who her daughter was, and guess what she said? Yep, her daughter is Laurie.

I walked around the store a few times looking for Laurie and found her huddled in a corner with stickers and making sure to avoid all customers. By the way, as I was looking for her, I looked around the fish dept. and it was in despicable conditions. I must have counted at least 60-70 dead fish floating in tanks. The tanks also all have this gross algae all over glass, and I saw several fish that were very sick with ick or other obvious diseases.

Anyways, I approached Laurie and told her that I need to buy a mouse for my son's snake and that her mom just told me that I can't buy one. I don't know if she recognized me from our issue in September, but I did not remind her. Laurie told me, "That's true. If you didn't say that it was for the snake, I could sell you one, but since I know that it will be food, I am not allowed to do that." I told her that was absolutely ridiculous, and that I want to buy a mouse as a pet instead then. She said that she can't since I already said that it was food and she knows that it won't really be a pet, and she suggested that I buy frozen mice. I told her that his snake will not eat the frozen mice that have been offered before, and it should not be any of her business what our intentions are for this mouse. She said "Sorry, but my hands are tied. I can only sell you frozen mice."

Well, that just did it for me. I had to walk out of the store before I kicked her teeth in. I am by-passing telling Petco anything more about this incident since they didn't help me before, and I am so angry that I want to take the to the Better Business Bureau.

What a horrible store with horrible employees. I beg everyone to stop shopping there so that they will shut down and move out of town. They don't do anything positive for our community or even offer any full time jobs for anyone in our town - only the managers who aren't from here, and the whole place just needs to disappear so that our well-loved mom and pop stores can reopen and stand a chance.

Wesley was fired for lies that the other employees said about how he fed a mouse to snake but neither one of them was Petco's property. This store is just a joke. I just worked there for 2 days and walked out on them because of all the ###. They DO sell mice for feeding there too, Laurie must of just been PMSy that day.

Hi,

The Petco here in Seattle, on Aurora Avenue, sells "Feeder Mice." They are cheaper, and meant for FEEDING. I ask for "feeder mice" and at the register tell them how many I have in the box and I say "I have one, male FEEDER MOUSE."

Today I confirmed that ALL PETCOS HAVE THE SAME STORE POLICIES.

I would suggest ordering feeder mice online or having a friend get the mice for now, and meanwhile getting the policy (without letting them know why) in writing from corporate by writing them a physical letter. You might not get through using the traditional complaint routes. In the letter, softly mention litigation if the snake suffers or dies. Mention that a court can easily find their policies. Mention you will be documenting all refusals to sell you a mouse.

Another alternative is to purchase gerbils (snakes prefer them). They cost more, but the employees will likely not question their use as snake food due to the increased cost.

As a reptile owner, I will pray for your strength in fighting these anti-reptile people. Such hypocrites. Let their poor fish die in the water they "breathe" while they "save" the life of a mouse. More likely than not that mouse will be sold to a kid who won't care for it, and a parent who won't shell out money for a vet visit for a meer mouse.

Good luck to you!

Are you sure this wasn't at Petsmart? Petsmart sells frozen but not live mice. Petco sells live mice, and most snake owners go there to get their feeders. Petsmart's policy forbids them to sell their live mice as food for reptiles. If she sold it to you, she could've gotten fired if her manager found out. So don't blame her.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience, though you must know that they cannot tell you the employee's schedule without that employee's consent. It's an invasion of privacy.

Petco - poor delivery practice

Had ordered a hamster habitat from Petco. Fedex had it on 12/16/2017. For the next 3 days they noted they could not deliver package due to weather conditions. The weather conditions were sunny in the upper 30's. It had snowed earlier in the week but the roads had been cleared and the temperature in the upper 30's had melted all the ice on the roads. UPS...

Petco worse dog grooming ever

Husband dropped off our small Pom, Ting and they said how do you want him trimmed and he said just short and please none of that lions mane that the last groomer left him with. We have taken our dogs there many times with great success and this time we felt no reason to be concerned as they have been great. Well, I left them a Pom and picked up a mutt that looks something between a chihuahua and a rat. maybe a drowned cat too. The poor little dog has no hair left except where they chopped his tail until it is hardly one at all. I went and spoke with the store manager who admitted that the dog did not look like a Pom or any other breed that he knew of either. Sure he gave us a total refund but I want more. I want that poor excuse for a human being fired. There is no reason why a so-called professional groomer would ever do this to a Pom. What an idiot!

Pom's are NEVER supposed to be cut anyways! They are suppose to get a little trimming on feet and maybe sanitary but thats it. Using clippers totally ruins the coat. Many times they are so thick that they have to be shaved short when the customer is adament about shaving it. Since they arn't suppose to be cut in the first place, their hair is just to course to use a long length comb attachment. If you didnt want a dog with long hair, get a chihuahua.

Petco customer service

Recently, my mother went into this Petco to get me a set of grooming clippers for my birthday. She went over to the case and called over an employee. It took her several minutes of wondering around to find someone to help her. When she finally found someone, it was a groomer who helped her find a store associate. When she got the male employee over to the case, she started to ask him about which clippers to buy for me. She said he was very pleasant and knowledgeable. When she decided to buy a set, he had to find someone with the key. After waiting 20 minutes, he returned to say that the manager had gone home and that they did not have the key to open the case. He said that she would have to come back another time. She planned on giving it to me that night, so she settled for a gift card. She told the employee that she wanted to get a gift card for the amount of the clippers set that she wanted to get. He told her how much the particular set was and she got the gift card. She shared this story with me that night because it upset her and she thought it was inconvenient that she couldn’t get the item she wanted and had to leave with something else.
This is a continuation of a previous complaint. After my mother told us the story of how she ended up with a gift card instead, I was very hesitant to go to back to the store. My boyfriend and I went just a few nights later with a description of the clippers set that my mother got the gift card for. (Reminder: the employee got the gift card amount for how much the exact clipper set was) We walked over to the closed and locked case with the grooming clippers in it. There were only three boxes in there, but one matched the brand and description and was sitting under the price tag that matched what we were told. We walked around for several minutes trying to find a store associate to open the case but we could not find one. I had to walk to the front and wait in line to talk to the cashier to get him to come help us. Finally he came over and showed him which item I wanted. He went and got the keys pretty quickly and got the item for us. I am not sure of his name but he was blonde and very helpful and very nice. He took us to the register and rang up the set of clippers which my mother was told by the employee were around 78.00. (the amount she got the gift card for) The same clippers rang up for around 160.00. We explained the situation and so he agreed that it didn't sound right. He called over Jodi. She came over and confirmed that it was rung up as the correct price. At this point we started to get a bit annoyed at all the trouble we went through and it only got worse.

This is yet another continuation to a previous complaint. After we were told that it was the correct price, we explained the situation and nicely expressed how upsetting this was that we have put a lot of effort into just getting a single item. She understood and went to find the clipper set that matched the price we were given. When she came back she stated that they only had the around 160.00 ones or the around 20.00 ones. At this point my boyfriend was very aggravated with the whole situation and explained that we don’t want to settle for a cheaper one and that it was very irresponsible for the store to have a locked case that only employees can get into with products placed under the wrong price signs. At this point she said with an attitude "What do you want me to do? I can't discount a 160.00 item to 78.00" My boyfriend in reply said, "We should get something since it’s not our fault that your employees marked this the wrong price and told her mother the wrong price" he then asked to see a manager. Her response was "We don't have a store manager, you'll have to call corporate." At this point her attitude really got to me, who was quite this whole time. Finally I burst out, "Fine! We'll come back with my mom to return the card and we will go to Petsmart from now on!" as one last word, my boyfriend asked them to make sure nothing was charged to the gift card because it had been swiped. After all this, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and tried using the gift card online. Low and behold there was no money on it! When my mother returned to the store, they gave her a hard time about returning the gift card saying that it showed it had already been used.

I bought something at petco with my debit card and returned it on fort eddy road in concord n.h. and they insisted i only could get back my money by putting the amount back on my debit card. I then had to go home and call the main office and explain I paid with a debit card and this was like paying cash since it had already been deducted from my account. thay then inturn called the store and told them that it was like a cash transaction. this store has terrible customer service they are RUDE, PERSISTANT and UNFRIENDLY. this store likes to take your money but not give it back unless they really have to. they need to train this stores employees in customer service. they are Terrible Employees Awful!

Petco grooming

Never again will I recommed petco to anyone. We have always had our dog grommed at petco (10 yrs plus). I called to make an appointment and was told by a very rude person that they did not take animals 14 yrs plus. I first went there and had a wonderful groomer and then she quite after 10 yrs. And now a very rude person answers the phone and tells me this. After reading some of the horrors of petco, I feel I have been lucky for 10 yrs. I found someone else who went out of their way to groom our dog. Petco gooming is bad bad bad, rude rude. Never start with them.

On 8/21/2015 I called Petco grooming to schedule a grooming appointment for my Shih Tzu. The appointment was made for 8/22/2015. Later in the day I realized that I would not be able to get my dog there on that day or time so I called the store back to reschedule. I was told that someone called me and told me that they could no longer groom my dog because of his age. No one called me, why would I call to reschedule if that was the case. I asked to speak to the manager. Corey came on the phone and told me because of my dogs age, they don't feel comfortable grooming him. I've had my dog there two other times for grooming and was never told there was a problem. My dog has no health issues. He's 15 years old and his only problem is that he's deaf.
Needless to say, they are incompetent and I would no longer trust my pet with them. I will no longer be shopping at that location for food or supplies.
I will all I have to ensure that Petco in Milton GA goes out of business.

Took my dog in to get a basic shampoo, my dog had a herniated disk when I got her back. Cost $6000 for surgery. Will NEVER take any of my pets to PETCO again.

My first time and last. I took my mini schnauzer today for grooming - bath and de-mat, no shave. Erica did the "grooming" and did a horrible job. I picked up my dog and she was very skittish, nervous, and uncomfortable. It was only when I got her home that I realized Erica didn't de-mat her at all! Her legs, under her chin, and chest were a mess and still matted! Plus, she shaved her stomach area, and a terrible job at that, and left her irritated and red marks on her. She was in such pain, everytime I touched her legs, she flinched. She got a fever after getting home. The staff, groomers were unprofessional, lazy, inconsiderate, careless, and abusive. I will never take my pet there again and will inform everyone I know not to do so, as well. It's disgusting. They should not be in the grooming business.

Actually it's Petco policy not to take dogs that old. Petco recommends for safety reasons you bring the dog to the vet to be groomed at that age. Grooming can cause even slight stress which can trigger underlying health issues in an older dog to come into play. Arthritis, heart conditions, strokes etc.The groomer was actually doing you and your dog a favor!

Don't be stupid, you can't sue if it was the dog's fault. Many dogs get so upset at the groomers they hurt themselves thrashing around trying to get away from the water, dryer and sometimes even a brush. Chances are this is what happened. Most Petcos have video cameras. Ask to see the footage.

Petco injured dog

Please do not entrust the care of your pet to Petco grooming!

I had taken my Papillon named Winnie to Petco in Seekonk, MA to be groomed. Our usual groomer was not available so the appointment was booked with another Petco groomer.

My dog seemed extremely distressed at pick-up time; she was crying and squirming while being handed over the counter into my arms. When I asked the groomer “Katie” what was wrong with my little dog? She replied: “Winnie is such a Drama Queen!”

After leaving the store and arriving home I discovered that Winnie was in such pain that she was unable to move. I examined her more closely and noticed an enormous bruise covering almost the entire left side of her tiny body!

Since being groomed at Petco Winnie has had to undergo four surgeries. Her blackened skin had become necrotic and a large portion of her left side had to be removed. The veterinary surgeons believe that Winnie’s injury was the result of a thermal burn.

Winnie’s pain has only just started to subside and she will forever live with her scares. As for me; I will continue to deal with the guilt for trusting Petco with my precious little companion.

Unbelievable story. Our beloved 18 month old pure bred Australian Sheppard was brought into Petco for grooming by my wife. When my wife went to pick up our dog, her eye looked was red and swollen. By the time she got home, the eye was completely closed. She returned to the store to ask what Associate Christine C had done to her eye, and we were told that the shampoo had gone directly into her eye. Why hadn't they at least warned my wife? My wife then took our dog to the emergency room vet that day, where she had to be sedated due to pain and an inability to open the eye. She was put on antibiotics. Then, this weekend the dog continued to suffer from what must have been a burn in her eye, so we took her to our regular vet. The eye was completely opaque. Impossible to have been shampoo that did this. The vet said she had never seen such a bad corneal burn, of the entire eye. They operated on our dog this morning, trying to save the eye. My kids have been crying knowing that today our beloved dog got her eye sutured shut in order to save the eye, all because of someone who obviously did not care. I am very upset. If anyone has any advice, please write me at medicaldevicesale AT yahoo.com. If you are also pissed after reading this, please boycott their stores. If you are really really pissed, call the store. They have been nothing but rude to us, and even refused to return my wife's payment, stating that they had provide a service. Yeah, what a service indeed. Notice the left eye of our dog which was burned so badly that the light reflects differently. I am sick to my stomach just writing this and seeing the photo.

My dog was injured while being groomed. her hip was broken but they claim that they didn't do anything. I took her to my vet and they confirmed her hip was broken and that it takes a trauma to cause that kind of damage like a fall. They said usually only see with animals hit by cars. They still claim nothing happened.

Had $3, 000 worth of surgery and still fighting 4.5 months later with them to pay the bil. At this time they turned it over to a 3rd party SMS to research my claim. They have transferred my claim and still haven't even done any research or solicited the medical records. Petco self insures and clearly pays this firm to stall claims so customers dont sue.

I was on vacation from the UK in Sioux falls and visited the Petco store there..I have never seen such neglected looking animals in a store in my life. I do not agree with stores selling any animals even in the UK but if our pet stores were to treat animals like petco stores do the would be a civil uprising in this country as we would not stand for it. Petco and petsmart are the main reasons puppy mills are such big buisness as that is where they obtain all the livestock from. They dont care about the health of the stock they are selling to the public or that the inbreeding problems cause untold misery not only to the animals involved but to the people that purchase them.. While the public still goes into the petco store and quite happily hands over money for any purchase..it doesent have to be an animal...then Petco is laughing itself all the way to the bank. Well lisaj109..im so sorry to what happened to your dog..its unforgivable but i think if it had happened to any of my animals i would of ...and this is a brit phrase...punched the girls lights out who did this to my dog. Hope you sued them . Anyone that would like to join in an ongoing debate i have with petco on Facebook is more than welcome. OMG your poor little dog! I am a salon manager at a PetCo. When I first started working at this store 2 years ago, they had one of those closed drying boxes. I was told a groomer had killed a cat in there a few years prior. I was horrified! I knew already how dangerous they are and I refused to allow anyone to use that box. When the door broke, I ripped it off so there could be no mistake when I was off work.
I feel so bad for your dog. Grooming should be made to be a fun experience for them and if not fun, at the least, safe and tolerable. I would sue them!
JPage, I agree with you about the small animal sales. I wish there was enough pressure to make PetCo and PetSmart stop selling these sad little creatures. It's as bad as puppy mills and both corps encourage adoptions and claim to be so humane but supporting that horrible small pet industry is totally hypocritical!

Petco - store 1520

I have been an employee of Petco in Mountain Home, AR since they opened in March 2009. Everything about this job, company, and their corporate is a joke. They do not care about ANYTHING other than making a buck for themselves. They are morally unethical, and in my opinion, just plain evil. I have complained to management with no response, and I have...

Petco fired for false allegations

I am a former Petco employee. I am an animal lover and I was the only person that DID care about the animals in the store. Sick animals would be neglected, and the healthy animals would be forgotten about and sometimes go more than 2 days without food or water if I was off during those times. The reason that I was fired was because another employee fed her own mouse to her own snake in the store (neither of which CAME from Petco), and because I was the manager on duty, I got fired for it. Their reason was breaking company policy because you can't use live animals for food. The snake nor the mouse was Petco's, and there is NO policy against that. The worst part is that the person that did the feeding was not reprimanded one bit.

I have taken legal action, especially since Petco is not paying me unemployment, and my lawyer expects to win this case with flying colors. Any advise on fighting this case would be appreciated also. I don't want to work there again, but I know that I deserve to receive unemployment.

Thanks. No, there were no cameras in the area that this occurred, unfortunately. If there was, I couldn't have gotten fired. It was all heresay, and I was never told what the allegations were against me or given a chance to defend myself. You are right, it is much deeper than a mouse being fed to a snake. The company has tried to get rid of me since before I was even hired because they know that I follow the rules and wouldn't stand for the shady business practices that Petco participates in. That is the real reason I got fired. They think I blew the whistle on all of them when they don't even know that it was one of their current employees that anonymously reported them. They just assumed it was me because I told them numerous times that I would report them. They are still unable to prove anything because it didn't happen the way that they claim.

I was also fired as a GM for hearsay. I received an excellent review and got promoted to GM then fired the very next week for a policy violation with no proof. This is a company that if you stand up for what is right you will be terminated.

If they have you on camera knowingly participating in this "feeding" event, then your screwed. Don't waste your money on an attorney if they can prove you knowingly and willingly participated in this feeding event.

I'm pretty sure Petco has dozens of cameras everywhere, so dont get too excited by some ambulance chasing laywer who teklls you he has a good case! He obviously needs your business.

You pay them (lawyers) no matter if you win or loose. If Petco can prove you participated or negligently allow this to take place, then your up sh8t's creek with no paddle.

Unemployment isn't paid to those terminated for disobeying (legal) company policies.

If its witness testimony only, try to produce your own witnesses.

It sounds to me like something a little deeper then a snake being fed.

I would lobby to Petco corporate before dragging them to court. Your unemployment for the year will all go to legal costs!

Good luck
