Pet-Go-Round review: Bad service 23

To Whom It May Concern:

I'm writing to add a complaint regarding the Pet-Go-Round Pet Store in =

Virginia Beach, VA. =20

We purchased a 7 month old cocker spaniel puppy from the store, mostly =

because we felt sorry for him being there, and were afraid he was going =

to be euthanized for being in the pet store too long. We were even =

pressured into the sale by being given an additional discount, just so =

they could get rid of him.

Despite repeated attempts to obtain his AKC papers, my emails and visits =

go unanswered. Also, our dog suffers from severe submissiveness. He =

was underweight when we got him, and was poorly groomed. The =

submissiveness issue is a psyological one that requires daily medication =

that we can't afford. The problem makes him urinate for no reason, or =

whenever someone comes into the home. It took us months to get the dog =

to go outside without a leash, and to this day, he is still not =

housetrained.

After researching his breeder, and the corporation he was obtained from, =

Hunte Corporation, I was mortified! I've written them, but do not =

expect to get any type of response.

I'd like this comment added to the Wall of Shame (not sure if that is =

correct) so that others are made aware of the pet store/puppy mill =

practices.

what should I do if they sold us a German Shepherd and told us his AKC paperwork would be in on the 22nd of july and that was on the contract paperwork? Can I bring them to court?

After rescuing a dog that originally was purchased at a Pets Go Round, we have now had to put said dog down for aggressive behavior. In doing some research, his "breeder" was linked to QD Kennels in Missouri. Still want to purchase a dog from a store that does business with a puppy mill? My heart hurts for the dog that he could have been...please do not support those who support puppy manufacturers, it's the dogs and you who pay the ultimate price!

I have a real and valid question? Knowing what we all know about the dog breeding industry in America, how could you a) even WALK into a business that supports this vile and cruel industry and b) actually purchase an animal? Although all puppies are adorable and endearing, by buying one (even if you felt it needed to be "saved", it was "sad", etc) you are directly supporting this industry. When I look into the face of a pet-store puppy, I immediately think of its over-bred mother back at the mill. She likely has no strength in her legs as she has never walked outside the confines of her small, wire cage. She has never been stroked nor kissed. The festering, oozing sores on her backside from sitting in her own feces waft through the mill and a general sense of hopelessness pervades the air. According to the Humane Society, between 6 and 8 MILLION dogs and cats have to be euthanized every year due to overpopulation and overcrowding in shelters. These numbers are UNREAL, and here some of you are worried about papers and ### about your dog having to be neutered?! What's so great about a pedigree anyway? What about that specific dog warrants it to be more "valuable" than any other dog? Inbreeding is a HUGE problem for victims of large-scale breeders and is linked to many of the diseases and disorders your dogs are experiencing. I am sorry to harp, and I understand that what's done is done and for better or worse your puppy mill dogs are now a part of your family. In my opinion, the greatest gift you can give to them is to SPREAD THE WORD! Expose this industry for what it really is...the greedy, seedy, soulless individuals who treat "man's best friend" as a cash CROP (literally, they consider the dogs in their mills to be of no more value than chickens in a processing plant). Make sure your friends, their friends, your neighbors, co-workers, THEIR friends, your enemies, AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE, know about the horrors of puppy mills!

You people are ridiculous! There is one comment, "...I wish a rescue would take all of the puppies and nurse them back to health and adopt them..."

Why didn't you go and adopt a puppy in the first place? All of the puppies at this store come from a breeder, period! It's disgusting that any pet store would associate with a breeder. They need to partner with rescue groups and shelters that adopt animals. Most of the dogs that are purchased from a pet store or backyard breeder end up at a shelter because of irresponsible owners not doing what they should to care for the animals when they purchase them. NEVER purchase an animal, always ADOPT. Every time you purchase an animal you're participating in the worst ring of business -- puppy/cat/bird, etc mills and or backyard breeders that have no desire to care for the animals, they only do it for the money.

NEVER PURCHASE A PUPPY FROM A STORE. All dogs purchased through stores like this are through distributors that purchase from puppy mills period. No REPUTABLE breeder would ever, ever, EVER sell their pups to a pet store.

YES NEW MANAGEMENT AT LYNNHAVEN AND HE RECENTLY TOOK OVER MANAGEMENT AT THE PEMBROKE STORE TOO. As well as employee's there was a turn over. I read the comments and instead of assuming and listening to people I decided to go in and ask questions! knowledge is power and all these people are assuming and obviously did not do there research. They do not get from Hunte and get from USDA breeders. I talked to the store manager and the puppies have to have a heath certificate before they cross states lines by a licensed veterinarian, it's a VA law... look it up(he showed me the paperwork and it was a list of every puppy they had)! He also looks up the breeder USDA and if it not updated or even has a little flaw or the breeder has to many dogs he will not get from them(he had that paperwork as well). If he has an issue with the puppy that is adopted in the future he will "black list" the breeder. The breeder info is in the folder, i looked at an English bulldog and the parents and breeder pictures were in there too. I felt like a fool going in there like a private investigator listening to other people but i rather be "safe" than sorry, educate yourself! I purchased the English bulldog feeling "safe" and he is the love of my life and has so much personality and has been very healthy. I went to my own Vet and the vet they use is just a referral for new client that does not have a veterinarian already. Oh and about that" comment" if i didn't sum it up for you, hopefully you don't read between the lines! lol. Most veterinarians if you are a new first time client give you a initial free vet examination.
Found out, Pet Go Round a privately owned and the owner lives in NC and i was told he trusted his old management team (the one at Pembroke had worked there for over 20 years!). There was camera's installed for a reason and now there is new management, wasn't told why, hmmmm!
Oh and my family did adopted a Lab mix from the SPCA and the puppy had parvo, I was 19 years old and it was was a horrible experience. The puppy spend days in the ER and he didn't even survive and my parents spent hundreds of dollars in Vet bills. So I don't think it matters where you adopt a puppy from, nobody or nothing is perfect, expect for God, or Lord and savior! My heart goes out to the people that has had problems and I am so glad they "the puppies" you adopted are apart of your family today!
You should talk to the new Management team to solve the problems the old management left!

I did not buy my puppy from Pet Go Round, but she did come from the same breeder that they use...Jeffrey Boston. Shea is now 15 months old and she is a Brussels Griffon. She has hip displasia, knee lacitations on both sides, hypothyroidism and when we bought her she had an open fontanel and an embiblical hernia. Shea has a vet, a chiropractoe and an orthopedic surgeon and I am spending approximately $300 per month on medical treatments in order to stave off knee surgery until she is a little older. Please, please do not buy dogs from this breeder! He must be put out of buisness!

90% of the people with the bad comments on here have never bought a puppy from there they work for shelters or peta and are trying to keep puppy mills closed. are puppy mills bad? yes of course they are. and any one who really had problems with this place should have done your research. one if the dog has a crusty nose and is coughing ask what has been done about the cough asking to see proof that the dog has seen the vet. just do research and know what your getting into before you buy from places like this. and the only reason there are places like this is because you can make payments there. ask some akc breeders if you can make payments, they will laugh at you. i can understand why some one would buy here. i only like bully breeds and i have a young kid so if i get a bully i want one as a puppy so i can raise it with my kid and my family. so going to the pound doesn't really work for me puppy go to fast and the chance of those dogs being sick is just as high. but again long story short just do your research check the place out don't buy a dog on your first visit make sure you research the breed go in with your own info ask to see paper work look the paperwork over with a fine toothed comb. if something doesn't seem right don't buy. its that easy

To angrybaybeachvetsupporter:

"It is quite hilarious that you believe that the vet that they use is 'in on' what they do"--Really? Are you so ignorant to believe that this vet provides these services free of charge? That he/she gets no compensation for his/her work? Your blindness is quite amusing.

" If you took your puppy to that vet for the free physical, THAT DR. HONAKER, offers free of charge, not the pet store, but the actual vet, you would have been told what problems your puppy had, just as if you had gone anywhere else."--That is not the point, stupid. Any vet could have said that that puppy was sick--it was obvious to even a 10-year-old. YOU REALLY believe they do this "free of charge"; funny!

"They direct you there because of the free (THAT THE VET GETS COMPENSATED FOR IN *SOME* MANNER) visit, but any vet can sign your puppy's paperwork."-- The issue, silly person, was the dog's papers--not papers saying he was sick. The papers giving his pedigree.

"I know this because I also bought a dog from Pet Go Round", (THAT WAS PROBABLY SICK) "however, I had already been a client of Dr. Honaker for several years prior. So, to be honest, I think you didn't completely read your paperwork, or misunderstood."(--No, I think you misunderstood--completely; the issue is not with the vet, ignoramus).

"Perhaps next time you should strictly take your problems up with Pet Go Round and not involve my family's trusted vets office of over 10 years!"--Hel-LO? Earth to silly person? The-issue-was-not-with-the-vet-and-you-are-a-sap-for-believing-that-the-vet-gets-NO-compensation-for-providing-an-exam-for-Pet-Go-Round. Ever hear of doctors getting vacations, box seats, trips, etc. just for prescribing drug A over drug B? You really need to educate yourself.

Go ask your vet how they are compensated for these "free" visits.

Why doesn't the pet store offer a free visit to YOUR choice of vet? Why only a certain one?

These vets are then contributing to the conditions of puppy mills and irreputable breeders--all in the interest of filling up their office with new clients, who are guaranteed to have sick puppies from buying from pet shops. They know they have a source of revenue there. It all comes down to greed. Wake up.

I will never, ever buy from a pet store again, and will continue to try to educate others about the horrible conditions in puppy mills. Why don't you go on YouTube and watch some puppy mill videos? Then get back to us on here--AFTER you've stuffed your ill-informed, holier-than-thou attitude somewhere else.

We bought an English Bulldog from the Pet Go Round in Lynhaven Mall in VA BCH, VA 10/4/09. We were told she had a "puppy cold" that she was seen and put on antibiotics but she was okay and would have a cough for a few days. We asked if there were any antibiotics left to give her and she, Maggie, the employee, who sold the puppy to us told us no. They had a $200.00 mark down on her along with other puppies. Now that I think of it, is it b/c they were all sick? We get the puppy home and we noticed as the days go by her cough sounding horrible and the green stuff coming out of her nose. We thought it was normal with colds just like in humans. We made an appt with the vet they told us to go to. We went to this vet on 10/12/09 we mentioned her cough sounding so bad and the discharge coming out of her nose. The vet heard her cough saw the green stuff coming out of her nose and continued the exam. She said her lungs sounded good but she wanted to put her on antibiotics b/c the Kennel Cough is now bacterial as well as viral. She asked us if we wanted them to give her a distemper shot and a rabies shot. We felt pressured to getting it done. We said yes to the distemper but not the rabies shot. We also told them we were going to be taking the puppy to our normal vet. We went by our vet later that day, they looked at the paper work and I asked to schedule an appt for the rabies shot and I was told she was too young for it. That she would have to wait 3 more weeks. So why did the vet in VA BCH try to give her one so early? Makes you wonder. Anyway, a couple of days later, on 10/15/09, our little puppy was lethargic, not eating or drinking, labored breathing, not urinating, and a high fever of 103.3. So my husband took her to an emergency vet. Come to find out she had pneumonia! Her left lung was completely filled with fluid. They put her in and oxygen cage, on an iv, and she is still in there today! They think she will not survive without being in the oxygen cage b/c her blood oxygen level is still pretty low. She has been at this vet hospital since and still is going to be for a while longer. The vet bill is almost as much as she was. By the time she is out of there if she ever gets better, the vet bill will be more than she cost. We are not made of money but we fell in love with this puppy and we made a home for her. We just want her to get better so she can come home and have a long happy and healthy life. We think the PGR should pay the medical bill do to them misleading us to believe she wasn't sick when we got her especially since there weren't any more antibiotics to give her. We called the pet store and the manager said we had to fax the medical bills to their corp. office. The vet faxed the medical records and bill over to PGR's home/corp. office and we haven't heard anything back yet. If we don't get help from the pet store, we will contact the news station and newspaper. We want everyone to know how they do business and you shouldn't buy from them without doing the research first. We didn't, we bought on a whim but we don't regret buying her b/c those animals need a home just like the ones in the pound or ASPCA. We regret not knowing who we were dealing with. We bought a dog from PGR about 20 years ago but hey, they were a lot different back then. That's why we went back this time. I wish a rescue shelter would go in and take all these animals out, nurse them back to health and adopt them out. We don't want our money back for the purchase of the puppy. We just want to be reimbursed for the medical bills b/c they knew more than they told us about her being sick. I pray that nobody else goes thru this and for the recovery of our puppy so we can bring her home.

To the above comment about the vet that Pet Go Round uses-

It is quite hilarious that you believe that the vet that they use is 'in on' what they do. The vets office they use is a very well known vet in the area and the practice has been open for more than 30 years-way prior to the opening of Pet Go Round. If you took your puppy to that vet for the free physical, THAT DR. HONAKER, offers free of charge, not the pet store, but the actual vet, you would have been told what problems your puppy had, just as if you had gone anywhere else. They direct you there because of the free visit, but any vet can sign your puppy's paperwork. I know this because I also bought a dog from Pet Go Round, however, I had already been a client of Dr. Honaker for several years prior. So, to be honest, I think you didn't completely read your paperwork, or misunderstood. Perhaps next time you should strictly take your problems up with Pet Go Round and not involve my family's trusted vets office of over 10 years!

I recently purchased a dog from the lynnhaven location and was actually surprised to find all of this information. I was originally looking for a place to write a good review and to see all of this information (negativity) here, now I am affraid of what the future holds for my new friend. However, for what its worth. There is new management in the lynnhaven store and he personally took the time to come out and answer additional questions that we had prior to our puppy purchase. I really felt the he was more concerned with where his puppy was going and what type of life it would have. He asked us questions to help us find the right breed for us - had books for us to reference back information and the whole 9. I had previously heard that the old manager would cut you deals to get the dog out of the store and there were health issues. We asked the manager if we could see what kind of living conditions the had behind the wall and he gladly walked us through and gave us the routine. HE CLEARLY HAD NOTHING TO HIDE, on the wall in their back room was a vet bill for $2500.00 ? Does that sound like they are intentionally selling sick dogs to make a buck? We purchased our puppy and have actually returned to the store to show him off. We have had not one problem with him and took him to our own vet and got a clean bill of health. The only thing I had to get from my own vet was frontline for flea and ticks, and that manager tried to get me to purchase that before we left with the puppy but I wasnt sure that the dog actually needed. Turns out - he did. I will continue to business with Pet go round in lynnhaven and my heart goes out to all of you that have had issues with your puppies. Oh- and to comment on the hunte distributor, our dog is not from hunte. We looked at 5 different dogs and none of them were from hunte. The dogs were from all over the place, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Tenn and Kentucky.

I am so sorry for your problems. Im so glad I did not buy from them now. I have a Papillon puppy. I looked on AKC and found a breeder near us and went that way. We almost bought a 6 month old one from them, now Im glad we didnt. Poor puppies :( they so deserve better. They should be reported. and If you look at the VA law, if they have give you no papers, they have breached their agreement and the would have to give you 75% of a refund b/c in that case they sold a dog with no papers. so that means if they guaranteed papers then did not deliver they breach their end. But I would definately report them and turn them in. Esp when their puppies are suppose to come with health guarantees. Good luck and God bless you.

My husband bought a puppy for me from them about 5 days ago and for 3 days she was coughing and sneezing very bad all night. I took her to the emergency room to find out she had an upper respitory infection. i am very upset but you know what, i will keep her and love her the same way as if she wasnt sick. i was just shocked when i heard the vet himself say that there is alot of prblems with pet go rounds puppies. Also why is it that the want you to see there vet that they work wit, is it because they know what is goin on also.

they actually dont do business with hunte any longer
(you can see that on the paperwork, in va they legally have to disclose where the pets come from)
and no they dont use chemicals on the dogs. thats the most ignorant and baseless accusation i have ever heard.

Update to my issue: After threatening legal action, the papers mysteriously appeared at Pet Go Round. They "claim" they no longer do business with either Hunte or Boston...not that I believe that for one moment.

Wow! I am so glad you posted this information. I have always had problems with the store, but now I know they are puppy mill dogs. I have also heard they are given illegal chemicals in the store to make their nose stop running, I'm not sure the name of it. I plan to get this place ###ing shut down, and everyone who reads this should really do the same.. For the sake of the puppies and the kittens that are bred in disgusting puppy mills and have to suffer with severe illness caused by inbreeding. Please, look into it as much as you can!

We purchased a puppy from the same store on 11-20-05 and he was quite ill in his gut. The poor thing had bloody diarrhea the first night we had him home (he went to the vet the next day!) and the vet told us that kind of gut bug is very common with pet-shop puppies.

I have also done some research on the Hunte Corporation and the breeder (Jeffrey Boston of Brumley, MO) and am not happy with what I am finding.

I have twice contacted America's Pet Registry to get my dog's papers, with ZERO response. Now I'm angry, and am ready to stop playing nice and let my inner [censored] out.

DO NOT BUY FROM PET GO ROUND. They sell sick puppies from puppy mills who have associations with nefarious corporations.

my fiancé and I bought a puppy on 3/29/09. We weren't even on the way home when he started coughing very badly and it kept us both up through the night. We took him to the vet and found out he has an upper respiatory infection and also has had a hernia previosuly to us buying him. I love the dog but it's very unfair what this people are doing this place makes me sick I hope this place will shut down they are running a horrible company!

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
