The Penn Warranty Warranty is HUGE waste of money

I got the GOLD warranty, and after a year, filed 5 claims. Not a single claim was covered. they had an "out" for everything. They wanted me to have a mechanic tear down a transmission to diagnose issue. $1200, they didn't cover part. Now what?

Front CV joint failed, they claimed the grease was low, so that caused the failure...not covered. It's a 13 year old car, and how the heck can anyone be expected to check a grease level in a sealed part?

Huge waste of money. Save the headache, put money in an envelope & use it for repairs. you'll come out ahead.

The Penn Warranty Ripoff Masters!

Made a claim with the Penn Warranty Corporation after getting a WARRANTY (NOT a 'service contract') from the dealer with the vehicle at the time it was purchased. Had a transmission problem, noticed within the few days after the vehicle was acquired. Penn claims that the transmission problem was 'pre-existing', because (says them) the warranty wasn't 'accepted' before the claim was made, and therefore they are denying the claim. The matter is still in dispute. But judging by the number of complaints about Penn Warranty Corporation, not only on THIS website, but on several other consumer websites, Penn Warranty is MORE A 'get-rich-quick' ripoff company than a Warranty Company. One thing this this writer can warrant (guarantee), is that the consumer that gets a 'Penn Warranty Corporation' warranty' and get's stuck, will be - - - STUCK! Beware... Penn Warranty Corp is recognized by the BBB of Wilkes Barre, PA. WHY? Be careful if doing any business with Penn Warranty Corporation. Read their INCOMPREHENSIBLE fine print. Better yet... D O N ' T do A N Y business with Penn Warranty! They are a 'GENUINE' Rip Off Corporation!

PENN USED CAR WARRANTY CO FILTHY SCAMMERS DON’T BUY IT.

MY TRUCK ENGINE BLEW 2 MONTHS AND 4 DAYS AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THEY MADE ME TAKE IT TO A SHOP JUST TO OPEN THE CLAIM. THE MAXIMUM THE CLAIM WILL PAY IS $1400. THEY WANT THE SHOP TO TEAR THE ENGINE DOWN TO CONFIRM IT’S A BAD ROD, AND (GET THIS) WHICH ONE BROKE. SO HOW MUCH OF MY $1400 WILL BE TAKEN AWAY BY THIS? AND NO SHOP THAT I TALK TO WILL DO THIS. IT IS TWICE THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAN JUST SWAPPING THE ENGINE. YOU CAN’T DO THE WORK YOURSELF AND A USED ENGINE WILL COST YOU $3000+ INSTALLED IN MY TOWN. AND HOW LONG WILL THIS ONE LAST? IS THEIR A WARRANTY ON IT? SO ESSENTIALLY WHAT SEEMS TO HAPPEN IS I PAY WITH MY WARRANTY MONEY TO FIND OUT THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION FOR PENN WARRANTY CO SO THEY CAN PICK IT UP AND FIX IT FOR THEMSELVES AND GIVE IT TO SOME OTHER UNSUSPECTING SUCKER. AND HOW MUCH LOST TIME DO I HAVE IN ALL THIS? DOUBLE THAT $1400 AND IT STILL AINT ENOUGH.

DON’T LET THESES FILTHBAGS GET OVER ON YOU LIKE THEY HAVE SO MANY OTHERS.

This is one of the worse company I ever seen in my life, they are biggest thief for public money, My car had a problem I took my car to machanic shop to fix that and when i called the company they are saying adjuster will come in 48 hrs and he did not turn up there and saying back to me that my car was not on the shop. Second time i took my car to the shop and paied $1800 to machanic for fixing my car for transmission issue but this time i got the claim number but they only approve $900 . But after that more then 15 days are over I did not received my check yet. This comany suck you and your money and they will not pay you single money.

The Penn Warranty Not Worth It

The product this company sells is not a value and is not worth anyone's time or effort.
The ilk this company has working for them and does business worth should be a troubling sign. If the dealership selling you a car offers this warranty, walk away. You don't want to have anything to do with that dealer or that company.

The contract doesn't take effect right away, and has a clause that they will not pay for damage to a covered part caused by a non-covered part. They will try to trick you into saying some other part was damaged by a non-covered part and deny payment. There is no reason to do business with this company. Have a mechanic you like? You will sour your relationship with them when you pull out that Penn Warranty card. Worse, you will wait 3 days for approval and part delivery, and you'll be end up actually paying more for a covered part. I paid more for an alternator WITH the warranty than if I just had the mechanic do the work without. I had to pay the deductible, then hear that the part is being shipped from some distributor, and my car was tied up for 3 days for an alternator. There is an auto parts store 1 mile away that had the alternator in stock.

I barely broke even for the warranty for two repairs- An alternator, and a windshield wiper motor. I had to leave my car for days for one repair, and I had to bother people for rides, take the bus, and change my schedule for this warranty. There is a narrow set of circumstances that they will pay for. I say keep the business relationship between you and your mechanic, don't by this warranty. If you're worried about an older car, buy a new car! You'll be happier, and the money you spend on a car payment will serve you better than money given to this "warranty" company.

Another buyer beware- There are warranty companies that offer to pay the repair shop directly and not make the consumer wait for reimbursement. Some shops are refusing to honor the warranty because those companies are not paying the shops on time.

I have an extended warranty til August 2011. I called today to cancel the policy and get a refund on the time I have left on the policy. They told me that it has to be cancelled within 30 days to get a refund. I guess this is their way to secure their jobs by ripping off people. If they were a legitimate business, they would refund the difference on the warranty. The will be going out of business after I get done with them. They SUCK!

The Penn Warranty Money scam

I purchase Penn Warranty Corp warranty plan for 2 months, found out that transmission problem, brought to workshop & contacted Penn Warranty (PWC), PWC said i am responsible for tranmission tare down for diagnosis. after diagnosis, claim was approved for only $800.00 where actual bill is $2000, i still have to pay $1, 200!

in the contract says only used part & labor according to book will be approved. Labor is 12 hours X $75/hr labor should be $900 + used transmission 600 = 1500. but only pay 800!

lost of car used only paid according to Number of labor hours, that mean the car in the workshop, tare down transmission, waiting for the parts, waiting for Penn warranty approval (takes 2 days), to install the used transmission, all in takes a week to get it done but they only paid for every 8 hours means one day only! i would say better tell me not cover car rental!

Only replace with used tranmission! means maybe after another month, the transmission break down again & i have to send for repair & go through the same process & pay for tare down fees, I think PWC is not sincere in paying the claim & try to find ways not to pay! if PWC not interested to pay, why should we pay him the monthly fees?

The Penn Warranty Scam? Deceptive Business? Insurance Fraud?

BEWARE! I have been a "customer" for 3 yrs. Last year (2008) I had transmission work done on my 02 Dodge 2500 truck. The company wanted to put a transmission out of a junkyard in my truck! I chose to use the amount they offered and have my transmission rebuilt. Come to find out they only paid $800 towards my $3780 bill.. Last week 07/09 the trans went out in my truck leaving me and my 2 horses stranded almost 4 hours from home. Had the truck hauled to a Dodge dealership and opened a "claim" After getting the runaround for 9 days still no "answer" on the repairs. As of today. The company sent an independent inspector who didn't do his job correctly (according to a mgr at Penn) so now I am responsible for a re-inspection. Today BEFORE the inspector had seen the truck AGAIN.. A mgr told me the reason the transmission failed was due to lack of fluid... WTH? Was he on the side of the road with me? Did he see the puddle of red fluid under my truck? Did he see the puddle on the flatbed wrecker that hauled it to the dealership? The mgr also told me my truck had an oil leak... SO? That doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the transmission fluid! I was unaware that the employees at Penn Warranty have solved the Theory of Evaluation.. they know what came first the chicken or the egg... How can someone thousands of miles away determine that the cause of the failure was lack of fluid... not lack of fluid due to failure? This company could care less that I have had to rent a car out of my pocket for 9 days... my horses are stabled at $25 per day times 2 horses for the last 9 days and without a truck (Enterprise rents cute little cars) I can't get my trailer or horses home.. I found the upper management to be arrogant, rude and without care. I paid my policy in full and have 2 more years on it.. they shouldn't offer unlimited miles if they can't cover it. I have authorized repairs out of my pocket to get my truck fixed... and correctly fixed! At the advice of my lawyer... See them in court! Don't mess with Texas!

I am a Independant shop owner in Norman Ok. This is the first time and the last time I will use this warranty. I have a better chance getting a newborn to talk to me fluently then to get a claim paid. They dont want to pay for squat I have to pay out of pocket for certain items. My cust has a 04 jeep grand cherokee and the transfer case went out. Called the company and they wanted a statement from me so i did. Then 2 days later they get back to me and now they want a statement from the cust (verbal) so he did. Then they wanted a written statement from him! What warranty company does that? Are we witnessing a crime? Why the statements? Then from 8/9/13 untill 8/21/13 my customer has been out of his vehicle! At first the warranty company authorized a amount and cut my labor rate, and now the labor rate is still cut and they went back on the cost of the item because they said they found it cheaper out of state and the price includes shipping.. So now my cust has to wait even longer to get his vehicle?!?!? NO! I bought the part for more then expected and cutting my throat because of them.. My cust will be happy and ill be happy when hes completed but these people are no good.. Take it from a certified repair facility... NO GOOD WILL COME OUT OF THIS COMPANY!

Bought a Ford Ranger used with one of the Penn warranties-vehicle came with warranty at no cost so at least I didn't pay for it. Truck leaked oil out of one of the gaskets and engine locked up while driving down the interstate. Had vehicle towed to shop and placed claim with company. Per Penn customer service rep direction, the shop dismantled the engine so that the claims adjustor could verify the cause of the seized engine. Adjustor looked at my report and the dismantled engine and determined that it was a leaky seal spilling oil on the highway--this process took 1 week. They outright denied claim because it was related to faulty seals instead of mechanical components per a contract clause in the agreement, and made me pay the bill to have the engine dismantled for the claims adjustor. Meanwhile, I was out of a vehicle for a week when the issue could have been resolved sooner without taking the engine apart. If I knew they were going to outright reject due to that contract clause, I would have told the shop to start repairs immediately and pay out of pocket (minus dismantling of old engine) to get my truck fixed. I paid for rental car, dismantling of engine, tow bill, and repair costs while Penn collected the warranty fee paid by dealer. This warranty was more valuable as toilet paper than an actual warranty/insurance supplement. These guys are swindlers/con artists, and only care about their profit margin. They don't want to pay out any money, but have no problem taking your money, making you wait 1 week for their claims adjustor, and charging you for additional work THEY requested the shop to perform.

I bought a warranty from this comapny feeling that if I had a problem with my chevy trailblazer they would could help me get it fixed. They told me I could take it where ever I wanted and I did. I took my vehicle to a chevy house to have it looked at and fixed. I was told by chevy that I had a bad water pump, bad fuel check valve, a leak in the transmission, and a bad cell in my battery. Penn warranty said they would partially help out with the water pump. They wouldn't let chevy put in a chevy water pump, they wanted them to put one in from NAPA, probably a reconstructed one. I was going to have a hundred dollar deductable which was fine, and only willing to pay so much for the labor. They were not going to cover all the labor to fix my water pump. I m very up set and cancelling my warranty, because why have it if they are not going to fix anything. Would I recommend this company for a warranty. NO absolutley not.

I had a used Audi A4 for which I took the Penn Warranty. Once fine summer morning my transimission failed and Penn refused the cover the entire replacement cost. All they covered was 20%.

They look and act professional, but its just an act. So dont get fooled by their protections/warranty plans even if your dealer convinces you to take one. (he obviously gets a commission)

I wouldnt be writing this note had I really not felt the pain of dealing with Penn Warranty Corporation. FRAUD.

The Penn Warranty Rip off

My transmission is slipping to the point where the car does not move. I had it towed to a dealer where they contacted Penn Warranty which I have never used since I purchased it in 10/05 and they said they would need a diagnostics done and would have to know what parts exactly need to be replaced. Penn Warranty does not pay for diagnostics even though they request them. It was 9 hrs labors to tear this trans down. $850.00 out of my pocket then they would decide if they would cover the repair not the diagnostics. This is the loop hole in the contract. Not everyone has $850.00 to shell out and then hope they will cover parts and labor. What a rip off. When I called I talked to 3 people up to the supervisor which was really arrogant to me and said it was stated in my contract diagnostics are not covered. I paid $700.00 for this warranty for nothing.

This company is a complete sham, the contract say they will cover one thing, but when it time to fix it they will come with an excuse why they can't. They are a total waste of money. Don't purchase this warranty. My belt broke on my Mercedes broke due to a bad pulley and they wouldn't cover it even though the technician said they should have.

I got a two year warranty plan when i got a Chevy Tahoe. I had the Tahoe for 6 months and it was wrecked a young fellow ran out in front of it with his truck and damaged the front in of the Tahoe. 4000.00 in damages. His insurance had to pay for the damage to the Tahoe but I was not happy with the repairs to the Tahoe. I traded the Tahoe in on a new 2015 Chevy 2500 truck and this company wound not refund any of my money i paid for the warranty. so I had it for 6 months didn't use it and I no longer have the Tahoe or the money paid for the warranty. I had to get a lot of paper work together to dispute this like trade in info accident report police report insurance claim and send it to them for nothing. THE PENN WARRANTY CORPORATION WILL NEVER EVER GET ANOTHER PENNY FROM ME. I hope this gets all over the world and they do go business.

I'm surprised the company is still in business! After my fiasco with them, I managed to get back some money...after about 8 months... letters were written to the BBB in WIlkes Bare; the BBB in the State where I bought the Vehicle; the citizens complaint board of the county; The Citizens complaint board in NJ and PA. Their "Lawyer" works out of a post office box (no office) somewhere in PA. My situation was handled be the County Consumer Complaint board, and after about 8 months I received what I expected (about 50% of the transmission repair cost), and a refund of the charges for paid the phony warranty. All my paperwork was retained, and the cell phone record of the calls on the day of the transmission failure, and subsequent failures helped prove that the first incident happened within Penn Warranty's "wait to go into effect date". Keep rattling their tree. Make as much noise as you can. Document your calls, letters, etc. It might take sometime, but your MIGHT get some satisfaction... Good Luck. A NJ Senior Citizen.

Roadside service is a joke. I am a single mom of 2 kids and was headed out to see family for Thanksgiving and got a flat tire. I called the company and their answering service says, "In reserve of the holiday we are closed. Thank you. Good bye." and then it hangs up on u. So I was left stranded on the side of the interstate with my kids and no help! I called the police department and the only help they would give me was to offer a towing service. PWC contract says 24 hour roadside assistance but this doesn't cover HOLIDAYS! So don't travel and expect to be able to use your roadside assistance with this company! What a joke!

I will never again buy a warranty from this company. Their wording of their contract gets them out of every possible claim. This company uses smoke and mirrors to decieve individuals into buying their warranties. Trying to get through to someone in customer service is a joke. When you do finally get them on the phone they are rude and before you can even tell them the issue with your vehicle they state that it's, "Not covered." Wow, I wish I had my $1, 800 back so I could buy a "REAL" warranty. Please save yourself a lot of heartache and stress and do not buy their warranties.

I just got done doing the Transmission claim thing also. My fianance company required a warranty to go with it, or they wouldn't fianance it. What a joke. $1980 for my jeep warranty, jeep lasted 6 weeks and transmission started slipping. I babied it to a shop. Penn only covers $75 an hour labor, no shop around here worth going to charges under $90 an hour. The warranty only covers up to $2, 500, that is just over the parts needed to repair it. They finally decided to put a USED transmission in it. Cost of transmission $800. With no real knowledge of whether or not it was good. Thay had already agreed to pay about $1100 total to repair it so I had the shop rebuild my existing transmission and covered the difference. So after paying them $1980 for a warranty, I still had to pay about $1300 to fix my Jeep. The upshot is I know this shop will stand behind thier work, just wish I wasn't paying interest on the almost $2000 I paid, just think for $300 more I couldhave gotten it fixed without em and save almost $1000. Rip off yes, but we signed the stupid contract so we shot ourselves. If a fianance company ever tries to make me get a warranty again I'll tell them I will go somewhere else.

I bought a used vehicle with a WARRANTY from Penn Warranty - NOT a "Service Contract". For all intents and purposes, they are a RIP OFF organization. Within a week of the purchase teh transmission began slipping, to the point the car vehicle would not move. They told me my claim was no good because it was a "pre-existing" problem; that the company had not yet "accepted" the warranty. No "Inspector" from teh Penn Warranty Comapny ever came to the repair shop to check out the situation. At this writing, this claim is still in dispute. But I went to the Dealer, and told them the above statements; I called the company: I emailed the company: I searched other complaint sites and got the total number of complaints listed on each. I kept "shaking the trees" (dealer, and Pe nn Warranty Company.) Latest call from dealer said the company was going to "put together some figures"... We'll see.

Penn Warranty is listed with the BBB in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. WHY? You can write to them; also the PA state Consumer Advocate; the City BBB where you bought the vehicle and the State Consumer Advocate. List your complaint on ALL the Consumer Complaint Websites, including [redacted].com, and Complaint.com. It should be illegal how they word their contract - with all the double-talk, evasiveness and tricky wording!

We bought a Penn Warranty with a 2000 Dodge Durango in October 2008. By January 2009 the transmission went out. We were able to drive it to the repair shop, so at least we didn't have to pay for a tow. When called for authorization they told our mechanic the same thing. We would have to pay out of pocket $795 for the tear apart to tell them exactly which part was going bad. And then if they did agree to cover it, they would only approve a "Used" transmission. Not "Re-Manufactured". Basically get one out of a junk car and hope it works. Plus the bad transmission caused metal shavings to get into the radiator so that had to be replaced as well. In the end we chose to pay for a Re-Manufactured transmission with a 3 year warranty. Now the Durango won't start and the problem is the ignition wire was sitting on the manifold and it melted. After making us wait for 24 hours for a decision they decided that wires are covered under normal wear and tear so they won't cover it. I am so fed up with this piece of crap warranty, but don't know what we can do. Any suggestion.
