Pattys Puppy Love Farm review: Buyer beware 23

The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

We also purchased a genetically defective Weim puppy from Patty. As a result we were left with expensive veterinarian bills too. I contacted Patty and was advised she would not cover the vet bills and I even offered to fax her the vet records and she declined.

I think it is repulsive for a breeder to be charging top dollar for a less than perfect family pet. How can she sleep at night knowing that she is ripping off innocent families and burdening us with expensive veterinarian bills?

She is not a breeder but rather running a slimy puppy mill. Future buyers beware!

I tried to get a puppy from her. Emailed and called multiple times. She never got back to me and when I would keep contacting her she sounded like she didn’t know me. I would stay away from her and there are plenty of dogs available. We just got an adorable teddy bear for 3/4 of the price she charges. She would say to me I’ll call you back and never did. I don’t want to work with a person who is so disrespectful.

I truly want to thank all of you for backing me up on these reviews and I'm so sorry you had to see this mess. I also want to point out something that I just seen tonight for the first time. It just goes to prove everything I said before but without any actual proof other than what my attorney found on [redacted] with IP addresses. [redacted] does NOT show names of who are writing the complaints, you are protected and may say anything you like whether it be the truth or not. BUT Thank you so much Complaints Board - you show names of people who write here and my hats off to you. It doesn't have to be true but at least your posting names. SO if every one would just take a second to look here. ** On a post Oct 18, 2008 *Rush Kennel* writes about me 'She thinks it is repulsive for a breeder to be charging top dollar for a genetic defective puppy. How can she sleep at night knowing that she is ripping off innocent families and burdening them with expensive veterinarian bills? Seems she is breeding for the sole purpose of making MONEY and lots of it. Then again on Oct 23, 2008 Walt says nice things (thank U Walt, Arlene, Hudson and Harper (my 2 babies) for that - Sheila Rush again reports that a clean place doesn't mean I'm not a puppy mill. She also says I'm NOT the breeder of choice if your looking for a healthy well bred puppy.

What I really want to say is THANK YOU Sheila Rush for proving on complaints board. com that you my sweet dear friend was the one who posted this same report on [redacted].com * complaints board * my3centsworth and I think its 2 more companies. But ALL the same reports posted just to different sites. Thank you Rush Kennel for the nasty reports on my Patty's Puppy Love Farm - I still want you to know even with all this - In my heart even though i must be crazy through GOD I still love you

And for Dennis who says he called twice but I didn't return his call. If that is true I am sorry for not returning your call. I can only say that during that time my mother was diagnosed with Brain and Lung cancer, she was given 2 months to live and thats exactly what I had 2 months in the hospital all but 3 days out of that time. I can honestly say I might not have called you or even received your message. My mind was not right and it still was not right for months after I buried her. So all I can say is I'm sorry if that happened and I hope you found a wonderful baby vizsla for your family.

If you purchased a sick puppy or want to report a puppy mill, you can share your story with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) puppy mills campaign online at http://www.humanesociety.org/forms/tell_us_your_puppy_mill_story.html.

Jazzcat23 - Since this is not a short hand class tell me what the OP means? That way I can figure out what this huge elephant is that your talking about. Maybe other people who read this can figure it out also. ha
As for the other Dog Diva comment: My dogs will not end up in a kill shelter because they are all micro chipped for ID before they leave me. If a shelter picks them up and contacts the owners and they do not respond, that shelter is going to call me because I'm the first person on that list. And I will go get the dog if they call me. So I hope that can put your mind to some rest and we do have a return policy in hand for all dogs needing to come back home at any point in life.
As for the person who started this little chat Oct 23, 2008 - have you ever taken a min to look over all the sites that have this SAME exact comment on it. It's the same statement on about 5 different sites. Then it turns into a feeding frenzy for all others to comment on it. You think you know a person by this one remark wheather true or not it's like starting a gossip site. Well I kinda like a little bit of what Diva says: Puppy Mills can be USDA licensed because most of the pet shop puppies come from them. On the other hand BBB does report any complaints and will investigate. I don't have NOT ONE complaint on my record. So that is a good source for references. AKC does come out and suprise inspect. That is 2 that I have a A+ rating with. Our vet has given out many references to customers. We do have a permit to breed from the Department of Public Health. So with BBB, AKC, Vet references, Department of Public Health, My customer list that you can contact them to see how their dogs have done, meeting parents to the puppies, picking out your own puppy, shots, wormings, micro chips, registration papers AND a health guarantee and the fact that Todd and I have been doing this since July 2, 2000... I have NO IDEA what else a person could want. SO yes please ask my veterinarian what a puppy mill is. His number is offered on our web site and most use it.

By the way, many puppy mills manage to get USDA permits to breed - that doesn't mean that they are following "best practices" in the responsible breeding realm. So, a permit is the least of your worries if you want to get a puppy from someone. Ask an educated trainer about the behavior problems they see, as well as the physical ones. Ask your veterinarian what a puppy mill is. Understand that people who breed hundreds of pups or many different breed pups per year care little about them except as a commodity! If your breeder does not give you a lifetime guarantee, and have the backup for genetic testing done on the parents, and if you don't see the momma dog or know someone in the hobby who can go look for you, stay away!

Forget the BBB - they do not know the dog business. However, NEVER buy from pet stores or over the Internet! These pups are almost always from puppy mills or unscrupulous breeders. The right places to get puppies are these: hobby breeders (get a breeder referral from the AKC or UKC only); shelters that have behavior/socialization programs in place; rescue groups that have behavior/socialization programs in place. If you are unsure if a breeder is OK, contact a positive trainer or behaviorist in your area and pay them to help you determine if the puppy you want comes from a situation that will insure it fits into your home, lifestyle and budget (sick and genetically compromised pups will cost you a LOT at the vet). Reputable breeders should be able to show you a five generation pedigree, and should show you the results of the parent dogs' genetic testing with organizations such as CERF or Optigen (eyes), OFA or PennHip (hips). The breeder should ask you as many questions as you ask them, and not just be interested in your visa card! A guarantee should be unconditional for the life of the dog - in other words, at any time should you be unable to care for the dog the breeder should take it back. That way, YOUR pup never ends up in a kill shelter! Rather, it would hopefully be re-homed by someone familiar with your dog's breed characteristics. Also, please, please, please if you buy a puppy, get it in to a positive training class BEFORE it is 12 weeks old! Read this: http://www.avsabonline.org/avsabonline/images/stories/Position_Statements/puppy%20socialization.pdf. You will help insure that your dog grows up to be normally socialized, and that is so important. More dogs die from behavior problems than from disease! You can find a good trainer at www.trulydogfriendly.com.

First of all I would like to say I'm not sure who daisygirl1224 is but she wrote this on 3/3/11. WHY? Do I know you? Have you called me or come out? And why are you telling lies? Like I portray myself as a licensed Breeder ** I have NEVER told anybody I have a license to breed and you don't have to have a license to breed dogs AS long as you don't sell to pet shops or puppy brokers. Human's also don't have to have license to breed (but some of the should have). So lets inform you on the laws, rules and regulations of breeding: If you live in Guilford County as of 1/1/11 the laws changed due to a BIG BAD Breeder who was shut down. YOU MUST NOW HAVE A PERMIT TO BREED ANIMALS. Which means the health department and Animal Control have gotten together and you are inspected by the county to get your permit. I have been inspected and have been issued a permit to breed. We also get suprise inspected by AKC every year. Now other than these suprise inspections, permits and making sure my dogs are taken care of that is it.
#2 problem with you is you said I was nothing but a money hungry middle man ::: I'm NOT the middle man - I am the only MAN (woman in reality). What is really great about this whole thing is Animal Control tells people if they want to see how a kennel should be to come out and visit us. I must be doing something right. (Trafficking puppies) PLEASE. Oh you should also contact the BBB when thinking of purchasing a puppy. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day. And if this is you (you know who I mean) I'm sorry for what happened to you. I really do hope you find happiness some day.

CORRECTION TO PREVIOUS COMMENT:
My nearly 2-year-old Vizsla is the most beautiful and sweetest dog I have ever owned. At 60+ years old myself and having been a dog lover and owner for my entire life, I have had a few dogs. My husband, a marathon runner, regularly runs up to 8 miles with our Vizsla.
A great believer in adopting homeless animals, I am very sensitive to not enabling a puppy mill or other irresponsible breeder. We visited the farm. We saw parents, Ginger and Rusty along with our puppy. They were beautiful, healthy; lived in clean, well sheltered kennels--just like all the animals there. The farm is modern and well-maintained.
Our dog lives indoors, but requires lots of exercise and training in order to be a balanced animal. Weims and Vizslas are not the right dog for a couch potato or someone who is not dedicated to spending time training, exercising and playing with him. I believe that sometimes people do not realize the commitment of time, energy and yes, vet bills that go along with owning a dog of any kind. While it is possible that a genetic defect could occur in any matching, what I think I am hearing with this complaint is plain ol' everyday "try to blame my problems on someone else." (If you are going to have a dog, you're going to have vet bills.)
Patty loves her dogs. I just do not believe that she would breed defective animals. I am very sorry that someone has posted these hateful, untrue comments.

Completely agree - she portrays herself as a licensed Breeder but is nothing but a money hungry middle man. Shame on me for not doing enough research and pressing her on some red flags, but shame on her for trafficking puppies - despicable woman!

I have to completely disagree with this MILL comment and the genetically deficient part. I have to great wiemies age 6 and 5 and they are both in great health. My first one was the last one in the litter (female) although she is far from show quality that was never my intent she is a great part of my family and she has the best personality of all the dogs I have ever had. My male is all show he is 85lbs of pure muscle and had the total demeanor of a show dog (loves the camera). Patty has a love for her dogs like no other I get email from her all the time ( 6 years later ). No matter how hard a breeder tries or for that fact any one person that has a dog that gives birth to puppies. every so often one will come out with a genetic defect this by no means means that she is producing garbage.

I purchased a Weim puppy from Patty. While he is an incredible intelligent, active, loving, well mannered and irreplacable addition to the family, he does have cryptorchidism (not a problem unless you want to show or breed) and some a very sensitive GI tract (which is maintain through careful monitoring of his diet). He reached about 72lb before he stopped gaining and is almost two years-old. All-in-all I found Patty to be very helpful and attentive to her pups. If I have any memory that stands out about her is her passionate love for her pups.

I just visited Patty's Puppy Love Farm today looking to purchase a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, I can honestly say I was quite impressed with the care she and her husband give their animals. I know for a fact that she gives a two year guarantee on all puppies purchased from her. My pup is not old enough to be taken home so we will visit there again in the next week or so. Patty did ask us questions to feel out if we owned dogs before, where we worked, where the pup would be living, and watched us closely on how we and the pups interacted. - Carlos

I have purchased 2 Weim's from Patty and found her to be both helpful and knowledgeable about the breed. Her facility is beautiful and well maintained. I met both the mother and the father of the puppies before I purchased them. Our dogs are brothers from the same stud but different mothers. We even brought our older male back to the farm to pick out his brother/playmate. I recommend Patty to the many people who comment about our beautiful boys when they inquire about where we got them. She runs a professional operation and is a down to earth and good person. This is not a puppy mill by any means. I'm sorry that your puppy died- I had a female from a different breeder in DC that died at a year and a half old because of a genetic condition common in the breed. It is heart breaking but to place blame of Patty and maligning her business is in poor form.

I purchased my Weimaraner from patty. All that I can emphatically state is that she has great breeding standards. My weim is even tempered, intelligent (gives my lab a run for her money), loyal, sweet, and beautiful. She's 75 lbs now at just under a year old. As far as the AKC standard, she meets all, except her size, she's huge! But I wanted a big weim anyway! I just love my weim! Thank you Patty for such a wonderful addition to our family. I feel that some of the above negative comments may be from another breeder in the same vicinity. We called this breeder also but were diswayed because they had no hesitations selling us a puppy without knowing or caring about what kind of people we were or how we'd treat the animal. Those that are considering Patty, at least go check her out and then form your own opinion. She does breed good quality dogs. I've never regretted getting my weim from her and am glad I found her website.

I was beginning my research into getting a weim, I found Pattys Puppy Love. I e-mailed her with a few questions as I am new to the breed, she responded quickly (within a day or two via e-mail) and we e-mailed back and forth a couple of times, always timely.
I will continue to look at other breeders, but I suspect that I will have similar findings, as with any business, you can't please everyone. As with any breeding, human, dogs, wild...there are occasional mis-haps of nature, I don't know that I would pin that on this woman.
As for a cash only business, I would expect to have funds cleared before being able to take it from her. Unfortunately people suck, and I wouldn't take a check from someone without the guarantee that it will clear.
If I find the same issues with other breeders, I will go straight to Patty and buy my pup.

I am SOO confused by - by chance - coming across these VERY MIXED reviews of Patty's Puppy Farm...OR, is it more "Mill" than "farm"...? All I know is that I have been in love with the Vizsla breed FOR YEARS...and, that I found her site on the internet when searching for a Vizsla breeder in NC, because I am FROM NC...and, travel there a few times a year (making it easy perhaps for me to pick up a puppy during a trip). But, interesting to note: the times (twice) I have attempted to CALL or EMAIL Patty, it takes OVER A WEEK to get a reply: specifically, NO reply to my email, and over a week for a voicemail. I was out of town when that message came in, but I immediately returned the call, and am STILL (5 days later) waiting for a return call. It's SO SAD and disappointing to me to have read these comments - true, OR NOT - because, no matter what, SOMETHING "is up" with Patty's "farm" and, minimally, her breeding of Weimereiners... Though I saw her "rebuttal" comment, it still begs the question: WHY would someone (actually, it seems 3 different people/sets of owners) wage some negative campaign against a random dog breeder without some kind of legitimate problem...? And, though, I am seeking a VIZSLA - an amazingly beautiful breed - it scares me a lot that this breeder may have only gotten "lucky" with no problems with one breed, but is doing something that has led to serious problems with another... Again, I *seriously* wanted to support a NC breeder, if possible, because I am from that wonderful state... -Dennis.

Patty's Puppy Love Farm is a great breeder! We have purchased three Weimaraners from her and all have awesome personalities and have had no genetic problems. Our oldest is 4.5 years old. Her facilities are immaculate and she cares for all the dogs as they are her babies. If you have ever been to her home/kennel you'll see that she lives very modestly and that they obviously put a lot of money into the care and upkeep of their facility. I am sorry for your puppy, but you judge quite unfairly and it is pretty low character to blast people/business like this on the internet.

We purchased our 6 month old Labradoodle form Patty. We found her online, visited the facility and found it to be an imacculate facility. Our dog is smart, even tempered, great with kids and other dogs. We would reccomend this breeder and often do. I don't know what sorts of remedies there are for breeders to customers, but when I looked up puppy farms I am convinced that Patty's is clearly not one.

A cute puppy and a clean place DOES NOT mean this place is not a puppy mill. Your puppies are young, genetic defects can show up later, from reading all the reports concerning this breeder, their seems to be several people that have recieved sick puppies from Patty. Perhaps you should google puppy mill, from looking at her website this place has several red flags. This does not seem to be a breeder of choice if you are looking for a healthy well bred puppy.

I have just recently purchased my second Vizsla from Patty's Puppy love farm in Julien NC. I have made four (4)site visits over the course of two years and have never witnessed anything remotely resembling a puppy mill.

The kennels include individual runs and the site is immaculate. The puppies live in a separate nursery and are well socialized. The nursing mothers are with the puppies and are also friendly and well socialized.

I now have two beautiful, well bred Vizslas and based on what I have seen myself I can emphatically state that this is not a puppy mill!

I also think it is repulsive for a breeder to be charging top dollar for a genetic defective puppy. How can she sleep at night knowing that she is ripping off innocent families and burdening them with expensive veterinarian bills? it's simple, seems she is breeding for the sole purpose of making MONEY and lots of it!

From looking at her website, looks like she is no more than a back yard breeder, or running a puppy mill. Looks like anyone no matter what kind of person they are can buy a puppy from her if they have the CASH!
