Pat Crabtree sells sick puppies, doesn't stand behind her joke of a guarantee and doesn't care. We bought a sweet yorkie from her last summer; upon arrival, she had kennel cough and coccidia, which her immune system never recovered from. This sad story ended last Sunday ( 5/17/09 ) when our baby of 14 months died in my arms, with mounting vet/hospital bills totalling over $5, 000. Pat Crabtree's response to our puppies illness upon purchase was 'sorry'. She has already been permanently banned from the AKC. She needs to be stopped! She shouldn't even own a dog, let alone try to breed them.

Stop buying dogs from breeders people! I’ve done it! I didn’t know! I know now! Breeding should be illegal Ann period! Put them out of business by adopting a dog in need! Report them to police if you do make the mistake of buying a dog and there are issues! Report these puppy mills! It takes a village!

I got a chihuahua from a pet store in Colorado and her papers let me know my dog was from her too. She is 3. She has dental problems, missing her adult canine because she is so inbred, and has a good list of other health issues. This woman is terrible. Was on the 2015 too 100 worst breeders in America. I’m so sorry for those of you who have purchased dogs from her. I love my chi to death and glad I could give her a good home, but I learned my lesson about mill dogs. This woman should be stopped. She goes under different names and continues selling sick puppies.

2018 and she is still selling poor quality dogs :(
I bought a $1000 “chihuahua” puppy from a pet store in CO who was sick for the first 4 months we had her. As she grew the Vet said she was sure that she is Chiweenie! Her paws turn out and she now has an underbite! I just got her papers in and was able to look up the breeder, my papers use her maiden name of Passell but a little research and I found out she is Crabtree! I love my dog but she is not what I paid for!

I bought a Yorkie from Pat and I came home from work to let my little angel out to go potty and she was dead! I was heartbroken so I took her to my vet to see why she died at 1 year of age, after the autopsy it was due to an enlarged heart. Definitely a defect from her sick breeding. Do NOT buy anything from this women. When I called her to notify her all she said was she will sell me a replacement for another $1000. Really!

I purchased a Yorkie/Bichon mix from a store in Loveland (Town and Country Pet Center) that purchased her from Pat Crabtree. My puppy has been suffering from multiple parasites and now Giardia. She's been on meds since the day I got her. It's been a month now and she's still on meds for these different ailments that keep popping up. They say she may have gotten it from water outside, but my pup is so small, I never even take her outside. Just to go to the vet. She's had it since I got her. I'm thinking this Pat Crabtree may truly be a puppy mill.

I also bought a little chorkie puppy from Pat. Our little Lilly ($250) had a horrible cough, so we took her to the vet, and it was kennel cough. She also had coccidia. It took her months to get over these after she was treated for them. After seeing Lilly, my friend bough a puppy from Pat. That puppy was also very sick as well, and had to be treated for Kennel Cough. I know that kennel cough is fairly common, BUT, I also know that it can be prevented. My vet told me I should report back to the breeder so they can take the proper steps to check all of her puppies. I emailed her and she told me it was common, and there was nothing wrong on her end. Lilly is perfectly healthy now, and doing great. So this past March we purchased another puppy from her, little Lucy ($350), and she was perfectly healthy? So ... I am just not sure. I do feel like maybe her place could be checked out. I've noticed she has taken her ads off the internet as of late. They are supposibly both chorkies, HOWEVER, there were no AKC papers with them, just a typed paper saying they had their shots? So nothing official. I do think that is a problem. If something would have happened to my little puppies because of sickness .. I most def. would have taken the case MUCH farther!

I have been to Pat Crabtree's puppy mill personally several times. It was heartbreaking. Levels of cages with wires for runs and 2 or 3 dogs per kennel run. Falsifying papers is a fact. Selling sick dogs is a fact. Her previus co hort, Jim Haywood, was her broker and dog runner. It is a fact he would bring dogs back to Colorado in his trunk. Fact that he also falsyfied papers on her dogs. Fact-many were sick and were kept in a shed as well as in his basement. Fact he did not stand behind his warranty. Fact if you needed a replacement dog--good luck. Fact one of my several dogs purchased via Jim Haywood from Pat's died from some sort of diarehea and the replacement Chihuahua was a weiner dog length short legged collie looking dog. So, the reason so many Colorado complaints is because the two of them had quite a racket going and person after person got burnt. Now Mr. Haywood has taken his shysterism to Arizona and no doubt will find another mill or two to broker dogs for them. All for the almighty buck--nothing else. And, anyone who attends dog auctions should be shot.

I forgot to mention this in my last post. Just because a puppy doesn't show any signs of illness at 9 months doesn't mean you haven't been victimized. These things can show up 2, 3, 4 years later. I am glad that you find the vet bills to be cheaper here in CO because you are probably going to need them quite often.

I don't have any info on Pat Crabtree, but if this is from the store in Fort Collins they absolutely sell puppy mill dogs. I did a lot of research as I spend my free time putting puppy mills out of business. I just wanted to comment on the fact that Colorado has low vet fees. I moved to colorado 4 years ago from the philadelphia area and the fees here are usually double if not triple what I paid on the east coast. I agree there are a plethora of vets but they are all greedy and only care about the almighty dollar here. just my 2 cents. Also people don't buy when you can adopt a purebred dog from a shelter or rescue. Thousands die everyday for no reason.

I got a puppy from a store in Fort Collins, CO, that had come from Pat Crabtree. He is sweet and wonderful, and is 9 months with no health problems at all. As to the person that said CO charges thousands of dollars for vet bills, on the contrary. I have lived in Rhode Island and Wisconsin with a dog and have found that the prices in Colorado are a small fraction of what they were elsewhere. There are so many vets in the area (due to the CSU Vet School grads), that vets must keep their prices down in order to be competitive.

I have shown Gordon Setters, Chinese Crested and Affenpinschers since 1976 and bought one of MILL dogs for my disabled husband.
The poor little 4 pound Griff is a gene mess but I love her and instead of becoming his buddy, she is my shadow.
Pepople like Pat Crabtree need to get into one her nasty cages, stay pregnant and sell her kids. Wonder how she would like that. OOPS, if she coold make money she probably would.
She is crude, rude and should be put down for humane reasons. To save the poor animals she is so cruel to.

Let us all go to this Pat Crabtree's kennel, do a tour, and go through ALL the buildings on the premises.

Invite the USDA, Inspectors, the State of Kansas, the media, Human Society, ASCPA, and any/all Organization that qualify for proper inspections.

Whoever made this complaint against Pat Crabtree is completely off their reality meds. NO puppy...I repeat NO puppy will die from Coccidia or Kennel Cough. Where the buyer is located has a lot to do with the 5, 000 vet Bill. Have you noticed all complaints come from the state of Colorado? That shouldn't come as any surprise. The Vets in Colorado will charge thousands and thousands of dollars for treatment of two conditions that in any other state would cost less that a hundred dollars for the visit and the medicine to treat it. Buyer...if you live in colorado, have your vet picked out before you purchase your puppy and make sure you know what they charge for every type of visit. Then take your puppy for a well check FIRST THING. If you paid 5000 dollars for treatment for a little diarrhea and a dry cough you are either embellishing the story beyond belief or you are a bigger idiot than Pat Crabtree is a crook! Next time take care of your puppy before it gets that sick and don't try to blame the breeder!

Hi,
This is an out rage to blame a breeder for a dog getting sick.I know for a fact that if you have a computer you can find anything for a sick dog and IF you go to a good vet your little one would not have died.
I am a breeder and yes Puppies get all kinds of things and it is not because of not caring. That IS WHAT VETS ARE FOR .IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SPEND THE MONEY THAN YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A DOG.
THERE ARE MEDICINES FOR COCCIDIA AND KENNEL COUGH. MOST WORK WITHIN DAYS .
As a breeder I am searching all the time for good medicines that will help with all problems with puppies and that doesn't mean because I am a breeder people that care about their pet can not look for the same things. It is out there just look.
As a breeder I want to say that this lady just let her little one die .
She could have saved her.
there is no way she spent that kind of money on kennel cough and coccidia UNLESS SHE LEFT IT GO TO LONG and didn't get help. I would like to see the bill.
Another thing just because you have more than two breeds doesn't make you a puppy mill!
You all have to do some reasearch before buying a puppy .Do not let the heart take over, this is a life time commetment.

When I read this, it made me sick . I do not know this Pat but I will make a point to meet her and see her place and I will be back.

we'll there is always 2 sides to every story. pat crabtree does have a kennel. very very nice one. dogs ae well taken care of. once in a while you are are going to have problems with a puppy or 2. but as a general rule all her pups are very healthy. i think you would all be surprised at the nice conditions they are raised.
breeders guarentee pups for congenital life threatening conditions. the pups are to be returned with medical records. it states in every guarentee that NO vet bills are paid by the breeder. the buyers know this ahead of time.. further more, dogs do not die from coccidia that has left the immune system unheathly. thats just nuts. i know for a fact this lady never ever contacted mrs. crabtree until the dog was dead. then complained of the bill. get the facts...novalees mommy...that should tell you somthing? how stupid. mrs. j.w

I met this woman and know for a fact that this story is most likely true. I go to dog auctions and purchase dogs for various dog rescues. I have seen Pat Crabtree selling and purchasing dogs there. She has a very large kennel, breeds Maltese, Yorkies, Shih Tzu, Brussels Griffon and every other small breed you can think of. She is definitely classified as a puppymill. A written contract is only good as toilet paper because it can never be fully enforced. Don't buy from anyone who has more than two breeds of dogs, has a click to buy this puppy button on their website, won't let you go to their home or sells a toy breed puppy under 10 weeks of age.
