Overnight Genius review: Unauthorized billing! 53

My husband started receiving these weird "how to" videos for Microsoft Windows that he never requested and had never heard of. After the second shipment, I noticed a strange pending charge on his debit account, so I googled the phone number (since the dvds never came with a company name/phone number/invoice). Overnight Genius came up online. At about $80 per charge, he called today, conveniently enough after a new charge was pending for the previous day (that makes 3 total). He was told that the order was placed online on a certain day and time that he could not possibly have been in front of a computer and was told that his security code was also used from his debit card..now I'd like to see them prove that. In any case, they will only refund him one of the payments, and wouldn't you know it was the one that was the cheapest (I guess without $5 postage).
Who are these people and how did they get my husbands debit card number? Does the bank accept these charges without the actual security code, b/c I'd be inclined to believe they do. And since it's a debit card and not a credit card, my husband cannot seek resititution with the financial institution that issues his debit card.

Received a CD in the mail that was never ordered. Looked at my charge account and we were charged $2.56 and $2.27. I called the 866 number and spoke with Evan, operator #124 who insisted that we purchased the item (which we didn't). I requested a refund and he said he was not authorized to do this. I told him I was disputing the charge with my credit card company. He told me that my account is now closed and gave me a number to put on my package when I return it (which I will using registered mail). It will probably cost more than $4.83 to return it, but I don't care. Beware of this scam!

I have received on CD which I agreed to pay the shipping only. Then Overnight Genius charged my checking account %85.18 on October 14, 2008 and then again on November 7, 2008.

I have not even received any more CDs nor do I want to. I called them and got an answering machine telling me how to go to their website and cancel the order and bank withdrawals.

How do I get my money back? I never authorized them to withdraw anything except shipping charges.

They offered free CD for leaning Microsoft Office. For this I was asked to pay $ 6.83 for postage and handling, which I paid with my Debit card. This month I get another CD (intermediate) for which I did not place any order. They charged me $85.18. I am frightened that they might do it again. They do not respond to the phone calls. I have money being taken out of my bank account by what is listed on my bank statement as OVNTGenius with the 8XX number of [protected]. when I call to try to figure out what an dwho this is, I can only leave a recording that is not being answered. The first two withdrawals from my account were one for 2.65 and another for 3.25 in June. I called then to figure out who this was. On 7/31, they withrew 85.18 and again I called and LVM. I can't get them to stop and I did not authorize anything and I don't even know who they are. I don't need computer help or learning as I am a network engineer already. I really frustrated that these people have access to my account and I can't stop it.

I don't know how these people got my Visa account number. Somehow they did. Somehow I was stupid enough not to look closely. Look at your credit card bills! Somehow--I am charged for several months of their services.

I ordered the CD for Mastering Word. I was suposed to get and paid for the first lesson but before I knew it, my checking account was charged for all three cd's. Problem was that when I opened them, they were for the 2003 version which is four years before the '07 version I am running on my computer! Don't buy from them, it's a rip off.

I ordered one product and since can' t reach the company to cancel further shipments and I am being ripped off monthly with shipments and charges. Can anyone help me get this rectified?

This company sent me software programs for windows that I did not order. Somehow they got access to our credit cards and billed us. When the cd's came they was no letter no nothing explaining why we received them. When I called them they said that the person ordering them used the email address wayneshwrth@gmail.com.

We have no idea who this is but they used our credit card number.

Overnight Genius charged my credit card $78.23 for unauthorized overnight delivery charges and also sent me Front Page Ssoftware when I requested E-Bay. This company is a fraud.

Constant thievery from checking account... bank will not stop unless Overnight Genius agrees... no contacts can be made with Overnight... Phone calls put on hold... then click off... refuse to answer calls... they also never answer e-mail complaints... this is thievery... keeps taking nearly 90 dollars...

How do I get them stop sending this and get my refund on the 2 programs they sent

This company lures you with free trial software and then bills you every month for their programs, with out any approval.

The customer service Rep only reads a statement to you about how you approved this.

This is a big rip off!

I had an ordeal like this sometime back and what I did is tell the credit card company that I needed to replace my card with a new number. That seemed to take care of it. Also it seems that a lot of people on here don't know that you can file a chargeback complaint with your bank too if a situation arises with a debit/credit card. The bank wanted evidence that I tried to get my money back first with the company and then they let me file a formal complaint form for unauthorized charges . It took about 2 weeks to process but in the end I got $65 returned to my checking account involving 2 transactions.

How come this company is still in business? They are horrible! Just went through a bunch of crap with them and finally they got a higher up on the phone...I was told by a person 2 weeks ago that I would be refunded both products i was returning..He failed to give me an RMA number, which was his fault, but put in his computer that i just cancelled the account. So basically he lied, and I'm the one that had to fight for my refund which I'm only getting refunded for the last product. They need to be brought down!

Same old thing with me. They just started showing up...2 of them now. I tried to call them once and it never did pick up. I simply called my Credit Card company and protested it. Took $170.o6 off of my bill and I will not call them to cancel something that I NEVER ordered in the first place. They will not come back against the protest and push it because they try and bluff you and scare you into conceiding. As far as sending these two back that I now have, let them write and ask me for them.

They know about all of these blogs and know that they have a bettter chance of having lunch with Bin Laden that pushing this issue and coming out ahead. Shut them down and they will have a new one set up by the next day.

THIS IS STILL GOING ON MORE THAN A YEAR LATER! My husband is an IT Guy and got this in the mail, with no information but the envelope. Sine he is in IT he thought that he got it as a sales tactic. When I checked his credit card, there was a charge for $6.83, which HE NEVER AUTHORIZED. We closed the account THANKS TO THIS BOARD! THANK YOU! They removed the current charge of $6.83. We have no idea where they got our information from. It is really scary! BEWARE OF THIS SCAM!

My visa card was charged $4.83 by Debt Snap. I had never heard of this company before today. I never contacted them or ordered anything from them. I am not in debt. I contacted visa immediately and they say they will not charge me. But I am concerned on how they obtained my credit card information. I am very careful with my information. It is not a large amount of money but the were trying to obtain it through fraud. When you go to their website, it is obviously a scam, as it is mainly for canceling (with a $19.95 fee) orders. They are thieves.

I got hit for $ 85.15 for software I did not order

Received set of CDs in mail today. No idea how they got my home address. A week ago we received a call from a different company inquiring about a purchase we had supposedly made; we contacted our credit card and cancelled the card immediately. Several charges were deemed bogus, including something from "Overnight Genius" about which we had no idea (sale was theoretically at 5:19 a.m., a time when my wife and I are sound asleep). Then the CDs arrived today. I went online, canceled the bogus Overnight Genius account, and sent the CDs back, unopened, with delivery confirmation (they have to be returned within 15 days or they say they'll charge your account $76.23--I don't worry so much about that because the credit card account was canceled). This is almost certainly a scam operation. The only Overnight Genius is the one who thought it up.

I recently recieved 3 packages in two days from

Mineral Science (1040 Trade Ave, Dalas, TX),
Overnight Genius (6899 Winchester Circle, Suite 103, Boulder, CO) and
Acais Slim Diet (2807 N Glenoaks Blvd, Burbank, CA)

Each package included a 'free' gift and a letter saying a bigger charge is going to follow. My bank account has been charged - so I've stopped my card and reported as fraud - I never agreed to these being sent in the first place.

They all have the same error in the address, so they are obviously linked in some way. The only recent transaction I can find that may be linked to this is with a company called game-stock.com which I recently discovered is a pirate software firm in Thailand (after I had made a purchase).

Another one here... I recieved a CD just out of the blue earler this month. I thought it was junk mail and threw it away, then my credit card company called me with a fraud alert. There was the charge for $76.23 plus a couple other "handling" charges thrown in for good measure. I had no idea what it was about but my credit card company provided me with a phone number of OvernightGenius to call. I called and asked who they were and why I was being billed for something I never ordered. All I gave the lady on the phone was my zip code and first name and all of a sudden she starts rattling off all my information, INCLUDING THE VALIDATION CODE OFF THE BACK OF MY CREDIT CARD! After calling my credit card company back and canceling my account I reviewed my transactions for the last month and can not for the life of me figure out where these scam artists got my information... The only thing I can think of is that they have some spyware of some kind out there that steals your information when you make a legitimate transaction online. Look these crooks up on the BBB also, lots of complaints.

Whew - do I feel stupid. These guys are just sleazy con men. I did NOT order anything, never received any acknowledgement via postal or email. Yes, I have received four (4) cd cases with no instructions or bill or any indication of payment. I have not opened any of them and been taken for over $250. I looked at my bank statements and saw the unauthorized withdrawals. Called and was told that my money was not going to be refunded. I lost it, and they hung up. I called back and was told that they had an electronic signature and that they would give me an RMA # for the last item and credit me this last item only. I requested that they send that proof of signature / authorization and/or the terms and they said they could not do that.
It's a good reminder to me that there are all sorts of crooks.
So just like all of you above, I've been taken and if I come up with some additional recourse, I'll post it here.

I had the same thing happen to me. I did sign up for some silly trial at $6.57 or something and was charged 78. for a crappy cd on how to ace Word (I manage a team of software developers for pete's sake). I recall I selected this "free" because it was the cheapest thing. Anyway I went to their site and cancelled. Here's the link: http://www.overnightgenius.com/excalibur/WebInteractions/findCustomer.php. Got confirmation no. that no more cds would be sent and there would be no more charges. In the meantime I wrote my bank and asked if there was anyway I could put a stop-payment on the existing charge. Worth asking.

I just got off the phone with my bank calling to their attention fraudulent purchases that appear under the name of this company as well! I work exclusively on a mac both at home and at work so am baffled as to how I may have even inadvertently purchased their software (PC software for mastering Windows). Hogwash is right! It saddens me that there are so many online schemers out there praying on the masses via these rip-off scams. I was happy to learn that my bank is taking action to protect my account but I can only say that I hope all punishment comes to the jerks that do this sort of thing! Harumph!

TWO WEEKS LATER I FIND ON MY BANK WITHDRAWLS THAT DEBT SNAP HAD WITHDRAWN $28.32 FROM MY ACCOUNT I WAS PISSED OFF. I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD BEEN CANCELLED . SO I CALLED THEM AND TOLD THEM I DIDN'T WANT THE CD'S ANY MORE . THEY TOLD ME THAT THE NEXT CD WAS SENT OUT . TOLD THEM I HAD CANCELLED. HE TOLD ME THAT I DIDN'T DO SO AFTER A 30MINS HE SAID HE WOULD GIVE ME A REFUND WHEN I SENT THE CD BACK SO I SAID OK! THE CD CAME AND SENT IT BACK THEY REFUNED ME . BUT! 3WEEKS LATER THERE WAS ANOTHER CHARGE FROM DEBT SNAP AGAIN FOR 85.18 I WAS BOILING AT THIS POINT SO I CALLED THEM UP AND THE TOLD ME THAT THEY WEREN'T GOING TO REFUND ME MY MONEY. So I had received the first CD in the mail several weeks ago. Had no idea where it came from. Just thought it was one of the free Gifts you get for renewing a tech magazine subscription. I did not notice the $4.67 fee on my bank statement. Then yesterday I got another CD Set. Now I was puzzled but pretty much ignored it. Until today I saw a charge for 85.18. I immediately called my bank and started a dispute since I had no idea at all and had not put 2 & 2 together with the CD sets. I canceled my card and had them reissue another. After finding this web page I finally understood what was going. I called one of the numbers listed here and have supposedly canceled my account and they will issue a refund once they get the CDs back. I am very, very puzzled since I have no idea how they got my CC number and the validation codes. I even reviewed my spending to see if I had purchased something online that perhaps the data was sold.

I will let you know if I get my refund.

If you did not sign up for it and got something in the mail. Check you bank statements and credit reports. I had my debit card information, including home address, phone number, and email stolen. They signed me up for this nightmare and a few other service accounts. The other guys included blockbuster, netflicks, stamps.com, and napster. They were all great about closing the account, wiping the charges, and reporting the fraud. Overnight Genius was the only company that gave me a hard time. My story is a commend on a different Overnight Genius complaint.

Cancel your credit card immediately. Make your bank send you a new one. This is ridiculous and it's illegal. Make them stop and do it today!

The same thing happened to me. I called Overnight Genius and they told me it was ordered through a "third party" vendor. Hogwash. I never ordered anything from them either directly or indirectly. Ridiculous.

Oh my gosh! The other day we recieved Overnight Genuis at my house. We knew it was a scam. But how gay! People have way too much time on their hands. get a life... and a real job.

I too have been riped off by this overnight Genuis...I did the trial thing for only pay shipping and recieved three cd's..I then cancelled my membership on 05-03-08. They make it sound that if you cancel your perscription before the trial as ended you will be able to keep the cd's and won't be charged for any future cd's..Well that was until I found they had removed(stolen) $76.23 from my checking account..I called them(OG) and they said I was to have returned as least one cd within a 15 day period or I would be charged the $76.23 and was e-mailed a confirmation number and where to send the one cd..and also said my membership was cancelled as of the 05-03-08..I am now returning all three cd's and expect my money returned..I have also talk to my bank and if I don't recieve my money I will send this letter to our local autorities. Were I personally think this company should be reported to the better buisness berual.

Everyone involved in this scam needs to go to this link, the us postal inspectors and file a complaint about this company. We need to bring this company down before more people become victims.

I just got SCAMMED and have ABSOULUTLY NO IDEA how they got my information I never order any cd's I never even heard of the company before the charge on my credit card. Does anybod know the website they were on when they unknowling signed up for this? Any info would help as I don't want to make the same mistake 2x's. Thanks in advance for your time!

I do think they are a shady business, but it does read in the terms and conditions it is a 10 day trail and you must cancel before the trial is up or you will be billed the $78.41 and be "subscribed" each month there after. So it is not against the law. However, my little brother was on a 3rd party site and signed up with my card. Legally I have a right to a refund.
