Ontario Energy Group Furnace

Signed paperwork for a new furnace back in august 2013. Suppose to come out yearly to do an inspection, maintenance on this furnace. Have not seen them since I signed the paperwork. Put a lien on my house, found that out when trying to take a loan for some renovations back in 2019. Was not told any of this at the time documents were signed. Tried to get ahold of them several times to get this resolved, in writing, phone calls etc, no response. Can't do anything because of this lien on my house.

Desired outcome: cancel contract, lien off my house, money back

Ontario Energy Group Air conditioning contract questions not answered

On April 14, 2021 I sent your office in Mississauga, ON. a letter with attachments asking for a reply to day no reply as been received. Would you please contact me by email: [protected]@hotmail.com on or before the 15 day of June, 2021. The reply would also indicate a contact person and/or a solution. The correspondence was sent with a Post Office tracer therefore there is proof that you have received same. Thank you

Ontario Energy Group central air

Did not know it was a 15 year lease nor did I know they put a lien on my house. This is disgusting. The workmanship is horrendous, silicone everywhere to seal up their mistakes. Was never told any of this, thought it was rent to own, never imagined I would be paying for it for 15 years. I have been paying for 8 years now, it is more than paid for and goes up every year, these people should be thrown in jail!

Ontario Energy Group Furnace Rental

I had taken over a rental contract after buying a property almost 5 years ago
I didn't sign anything to do with this company I just took over the payments when we bought the house
5 years later I just need to refinance but they've put a lien on the house so I can't do anything unless I pay like 20K which is ridiculous I could buy 3 furnaces for that amount of money.

Ontario Energy Group Over charge for buy out of contract

I had taken over a rental contract after buying a property almost 5 years ago
I had signed a lien for approximately $11, 000 as this was part of the real estate deal
5 years later I have sold the house and needed to pay out the contract and have been charged more money than what I originally signed for 5 years ago
I have made my monthly payments faithfully and there should have been a significant reduction in the pay out
I am requesting a refund asap
I had my lawyer involved and both my lawyer and myself were brushed off and treated very unprofessionally and rudely
we were told if we wanted the sale of the property to go through we would have to pay the amount
one particular person we dealt with that was extremely rude and unprofessional was

Ontario Energy Group Warranty and service

We purchased a 50gal hot water tank from OEG with free installation and parts and labour free over the life of the agreement and after installed we noticed that the tank was a 40gal. We notified the company and they sent us a new agreement with a lower price since they had varying packages and the tank was already installed. We accepted, while keeping both agreements. The new tank failed today and the company first indicated that we had to pay the service fee. When I sent them a copy of both agreements that they have on file, they indicated that we didn't have the valid warranty paperwork so we had to get the tank repaired ourselves after paying for this over the last 9 years. I have attached a copy of both agreements that they have on file but will not honor the warranty. This is fraud in my opinion.

Ontario Energy Group Air conditioner

In the middle of the very long heat wave in toronto, the air conditioner we are renting from oeg (already paid over $ 6000.00 by now) stopped working. I mean it's working... But not cooling. I live with my two elderly parents with health conditions and two young children. So we called the service, technician came, looked, "fixed" and left. Nothing changed. We called to cancel. Costumer service is so rude and ruthless I have no words. Even though we are over 5 years of the service, they keep telling us we have a contract for 15 years which is useful life of equipment. Well this equipment is not useful anymore. So they said if we cancel today, we have to wait 60 days (hopefully my parents survive by then) and then pay another $ 2000.00 and some, plus $ 750.00 for them to take the unit back. I forgot to mention that a salesman got my elderly father to sign the contract, even though he is not capable of any decisions for a long time, his english and understanding of canadian contracts are very poor and he believes anything he is told without questioning.

Ontario Energy Group furnace and air conditioner rental

July 7, 2015. 5:00 p.m. salesman came to door, claimed he was here on behalf of OEG and the ONTARIO Government, wishing to assess the age and efficiency of our furnace. not selling anything.. Innocent enough. after "inspection" started to explain that because of age, etc. our furnace did not meet regulations for conserving energy, efficiencies, what have you.. started explaining the benefits of rental, sat on the arm of my chair, hovering over me. i did not want to go ahead with the rental, he showed me the Program Qualification Form, should have been my first red flag, Current liabilities = $160 per month, New Assets. OMG. then the Savings net cost $135 per month, which is a SAVING of 40 - 50 $$ per month . 160 - 135 = 25.00. am I stupid. I am 70 years old at the time and not very quick at my game. my son and I had no time to confer, the offer is while he is in the area, can have it done tomorrow, units are on the truck, standard contract, no need to read it, 79.95 per month plus tax, includes inspections yearly, maintenance, warranty, never any cost for repairs. OK, OK signed. WELL, what about the AC. will not work well with a new furnace, efficiency, higher consumation of gas to run, electricity burden, got the unit on the truck, can be installed tomorrow, no need to read the contract, all standard. ya, ya 79.95 per month plus tax. DID NOT SEE THE 3.8% ANNUAL INCREASE CLAUSE. He was so smooth I could not even think he would be a cheat.
They arrived next day, tore my furnace open, PUT IN AN INSERT. not a new furnace, did get a new AC installed. very fast workers, installed some cockamamey piping for the ventalation - asked why - Oh, your furnace ventalation no good, not efficient. sign here, and gone. by January 2016 the furnace failed, finally got in touch and they sent a repair guy. no charges..
NOW back to July - Ontario Government givin $1, 300.00 rebate, 650.00 per unit, Verbal promise, and you know how that will hold up in court. finally got the paperwork to apply for rebate, sent it registered mail, August, a month later, no response, phoned 6-7 times, no answer, cannot reach salesman at the number he gave me, cannot reach his "assistant or whatever" . finally received 400.00 and 250.00 rebates.
Continued to pay, faithfully, charges increasing every year, gas and hydro increasing each month, absolutely no decrease or savings. finally sat down and added it up. Have paid 10K for AC and furnace insert. no service calls other than the one to fix the furnace. no contact from the company, no saving on gas and hydro. stopped payments... Guess who called me?
Unfortunately, the story has not ended, I don't know what to do next or who to turn to, all I know is I can't pay over 200.00 per month any longer.

Ontario Energy Group furnace rental

I am trying to terminate my contract on the 5th year anniversary.My contract states the installation fee will be waived if my account is in good standing at anniversary date .My account is paid to date and no money is owed.The contract also states that mileage fees are only applicable if the mileage is over 2 hours which it is not .I am willing to pay the removal fee of $800. plus the discharge fee of $200.00 but the people I am dealing with will not accept my proposal and keep insisting on my payment of the installation and Mileage.
In order to get this resolved I am having to hire a lawyer.

Ontario Energy Group furnace rental

Horrible company.

Please. If you are or have been a customer of OEG than take the following steps to fight back.

1. Call them and give them a chance to make you a fair deal. (Spoiler alert.. not likely)
2. Make a complaint with the Ministry of Business and Consumer Services.
3. Contact the Better Business Bureau
4. Start a Small Claims Lawsuit! It's easier than you may think and only costs $102. Start by creating a Service Ontario Account. Complete the wizard and serve your plaintiffs claim.
5. Join the class action lawsuit by Harrison Pensa. Maybe we will win and you could get compensation!

Good luck everyone who has to go through this. If you do need to terminate the contract. Don't pay the inflated buyout price. Pay the cancellation fee, let them remove their equipment. You'll save a lot of money this way. New furnaces and air conditioners of similar quality only cost around 2k.

Ontario Energy Group tankless hot water heater and air conditioner

I was told it was a rent to own agreement and that I could buy out after 3 years at a lower cost for the equipment. today when remortaging my home I was told oeg put a lean on my house. I called and was told to buy the equipment it is $11, 700 & hst. to buy out of the contract is $4784.40. I have been paying approximately $200.00 a month since 2013.

I agree totally misled and now i guess the worst part is i was told it was rent to own ..after 7 not 5 like they told me and it costs the same amount after 7 years for the unit ..what a scam ..and of course the people there tell you. That you cant get out or pay double

Ontario Energy Group ontario energy group... rent to own 2014 contracts

I had sign a contract with my family present to a 4 year Rent to Own Furnace which I had to dispose of myself. They also told me my central air wasn't compatible however I didn't buy in to that. Its now over 4 years and they are still taking payments. So I have called and left a message that my contract was up and they were still taking payments. I was transferred to an answering service which now I wait for their reply. This is one of the worst things a company to do to so many people. They should be ashamed of themselves and all who have been taken by them need to fight back. They should be accountable to the contract made at your doorstep.

Ontario Energy Group furnace door to door sales

Someone came to my moms door promising her all kinds of rebates if she got a new furnace from them and claiming to be in partnership with the government. They had her sign the contract on the spot. When they had left I had researched the company Ontario Energy Group and read about all the scams online. Also did the math and found out she would be paying $10, 600 for a $4000 furnace. I convinced her not to go through with it, but they came back the next day, convinced her it was worth it for the piece of mind for their warranty and how the monthly rebate she'd see on her hydro bill would make up 3/4 of the monthly cost. Also told her that after the 10 year term the furnace would be hers. They had the furnace there and installed immediately. By the time I got there the old one was out and the one was almost in. I talked to the salesman and pointed out how the "fine print" states that at the end of the contract my mother would have three options. To buy the furnace for fair market value, continue month to month with the rental or return it. The sales rep acted like he had never read that before and brushed it off as legal jargon to cover the company and said told myself and my mother that they furnace would be hers. They would not take back a 10 year old furnace. This company is sketchy at best and now my mother is stuck making payments to this company for the next 10 years. She is a single senior on a fixed income and this company should be ashamed.

My parents fell for the Energy Group Scam my parents now pay more for their energy and heat pay a fee for their furnace and owe more to buy it out then the furnace is actually worth they are screwed and its this companies fault my parents dont understand all the ins and outs of what they signed at the time when will the ontario government step in and help out all the people affected?

Ontario Energy Group furnace/air conditioning and hot water heater

In 2013 a person came to my door representing OEG. He was selling air conditioning, furnaces and hot water heaters. From his description my take on the situation was this: for five years I could rent to own a new furnace, air conditioner and hot water heater, for a flat rate for 5 years. Then I was told, 7 years and then the rep asked his boss and it became 5 years again. At the end of 5 years the equipment would be paid for and I could pay the balance of the amount owing. I was told by the sales rep that I would have to pay a balance of about 800 dollars to purchase the equipment outright after 5 years, but that I could cancel anytime in between if desired, with no penalty. I have a detailed list of all of the text conversations/emails had between me and the OEG rep. The rep said that the money I would save by installing a new furnace would be incredible. My old furnace was 35 years old.

After the new equipment was installed, I started paying monthly. For the first little while the payments were the same amount. Over time, the amounts deducted from my account began to increase. I was a little concerned about that but of course, didn't follow up with them. My mistake. I trusted them.

My monthly dollar amount is now almost 90 a month for each the furnace and the air conditioning, and another 20+ for the water heater. The original payments were 60 each and 19 for the hot water heater.

I was never told the amounts would go up. I have never received any type of communication since the install from OEG or Home Trust Company.
My only communication from then was regarding problems with the equipment, requesting service. It took several phone calls and many weeks before I could get a repair guy out to my house. When he finally did show up he told me that they had installed the equipment improperly and the size of the system was completely wrong for my home size.

In 2015 I thought about selling my house. I did a search for any liens on my property. To my horror I discovered that Home Trust Company had placed a lien for over 12, 000 on my home.

I contacted OEG/Home Trust and asked what the cost would be in order for me to buy out the equipment and was sent an invoice for over 16, 000. I was told that in order to have the lien removed from my home at that point I would have to pay the 16K + and wait a couple of months before the lien cleared.

16, 000 would surely take care of any profit I would have made of the sale of my house. So now I am stuck.

My question is how can any air conditioning and furnace combination be worth over 16, 000 to buy out?

I feel cheated and robbed and I clearly see that I have been taken advantage of .

I need to get this equipment out of my house but problem is I cant afford to have this done, which would be at my expense. They cannot be allowed to get away with this anymore.

I bought a furnace and A/C unit that was financed through this company last winter. A big selling point was that they would add an amount to my gas bill every month to pay for it over 10 years. I was Ok with everything until I went to my bank for a home equity loan when i was renegotiating my mortgage. I was surprised that Home Trust managed to get a lien on my house, which I needed to discharge before I could get the money. Much to my horror the company wanted $11, 000 to pay for the 2 units and then another $8, 000 in interest ( that they would have received over the 10 years in financing) to complete the discharge which would remove the lien and allow me to get my home equity money. As a result they got me for $19, 000 for a furnace and a/c unit. When a door to door salesperson comes to your door with one of these furnace and A/C offers that allow you to pay no money upfront and pay for it over 10 years be aware like i wasn't that they can put a lien on your house, which makes it impossible to borrow money that you may need down the road. Make sure there they will not put a lien on your house, and get it in writing before you sign anything. I learned the expensive way.

We found my elderly father had (he was 87 when this happened) bought into the whole OEG furnace deal. We contacted the company and bought my parents out of the deal for ~$8000. We saw the show on TV that dealt with this and the people who also had liens on their homes. My husband went to the land registry office. Despite the fact my parents bought themselves out of the contract, there's a $6000 lien on their house. Hopefully it's not too late to deal with this.

It's not too late. The Ministry's court cases are just starting up and you can still get redress through the Ministry of Government & Consumer Services by filing an official complaint. Thereafter you will likely be contacted by one of the law firms that are mounting class action suits. As well, major Canadian television networks are gathering information to broadcast this story on upcoming consumer affairs exposés.

I too have been scammed in the exact way.

Our mortgage is now unable to be renewed and we've faced fees for this as well. The lien on our house amounts to $12K for a furnace and air conditioner after 4 years of payments. I also received horrible treatment for an service issue and my wife spent half a summer calling for service and finally got a repairman out the following spring! This is pure abuse and manipulation at its finest.

With two young kids, being a new homeowner and now facing a situation where a significant amount of gain on my house is being allocated to these thiefs is enough to push me over the edge.

Sorry to hear you're going through a similar situation. Unfortunately, it appears I've missed the court case to submit alongside the 142 others with similar experiences.

There are numerous charges being brought against them by Consumer Affairs. You will need to contact them quickly as the matter is going to court July 27th, 2016 in Newmarket.
As well there are numerous law firms set to launch class action suits against OEG and Home Trust.
Search everything you can online, justice is about to be served on them to the tune of 142 Consumer Protection Act charges.

Ontario Energy Group furnace / air conditioner

I was deceived into signing up with Ontario Energy Group to take a new furnace and air conditioner. I am a senior living on a very limited budget, but the sales reps did a lot of posturing to give the impression that they are part of a government program. When I Googled them, the auto fill must have mistyped and it brought up Ontario Energy Board. I saw the legitimate government website.
Ultimately as I became more and more suspicious, I came to know that this company is hot on the consumer watch/complaint sites. However, I did not make the discovery until after the installations were completed and the 30 day 'cooling off' period had passed.
As things stand, my financial situation is forcing me to sell my house (I had told them as much at the outset) and they assured me that it would increase the equity in my home. The house has virtually no equity as it is and now I have to worry about how this exorbitantly priced contract will affect the sale. Additionally, OEG puts a lien on your home (which affectively makes selling it impossible) and OEG and Home Trust have each run credit checks on me without my knowledge or consent.
They are now demanding nearly $20, 000 to put the matter to rest and threatening me with a Notice of Security / Notice of Sale to exhort a payout. Based on Fraudulent Misrepresentation, outright lies and broken promises the Consumer Protection Act requires that the vendor cancel the contract without cost - which they should have done months ago. I have now submitted a statement to the Investigations Unit, Consumer Protection Branch, Ministry of Government & Consumer Services and am prepared to testify in court against OEG.
There are numerous issues, and looking at the internet reviews, there are many other people who have had less than satisfactory dealings with this organization. They are flat out misrepresenting their product, services and credentials.
Let's hope court actions hold these swindlers accountable (they have been charged and fined before). They need to be prosecuted or put out of business to protect the public.

some sales man came at my door, he was there to inspect my furnace and he told me my furnace was old and he wanted to see my bill when I showed him he said I was paying way too much and he could get me a new furnace and ac ad save me money with the rebate blah blah blah... I signed up not really thinking really and not looking into it as he seem to know what he was talking about, he made me initial front and I remember he said I would make 5 years payments to initial that box and I did I thought 5 years goes by fast and payments were 120 a month witch was a lot but then I would save with the new furnace I payed into this almost 5 years and I decided to call them see how much I still owed to pay it off the lady told me it was a rental and rental was for 15 years now I am stuck with this furnace and a/c and my payment keep going up every year did the math and by the time the 15 years is here ill have 32 000 payed into this furnace and a/c and it still wont be mine when I called I ask why I never got rebate they never return my calls if I want to get out of this contract its like 12 000 or 14 000 where I had already paying into this for over 5 years now like give me a break I freeze in winter cause I cant afford to pay gaz and the furnace and a/c bill can anyone tell me how and what I can do here as soon I wont be able to pay this bill any more with all that is going up...

Ontario Energy Group free boiler / furnace / water heater scam

4 March 2016 Dante Espinal (possibly a fake name) came to our door as an Ontario Energy Group representative. He attempted to sell us a contract for a FREE REPLACEMENT BOILER. He wrote out the details on a blank page, which was suspect. It was not a contract. The deal included free monthly rental ($119), free installation, free maintenance and service calls and upgrades... all false promises. The contract I signed had no such details on it, just the installation and rental agreement.

He also said the OPA would reimburse us $240, which is is actually true according to their website, but that applies when you BUY new energy-efficient heating and cooling equipment.

My gas maintenance people (Atomic, they're great) were well aware of the scam. There are no free deals! STAY AWAY FROM OEG, ONTARIO ENERGY GROUP, they are scam artists.

Ontario Energy Group fraudulent / unethical sales tactics

January 19, 2016 - 5PM - Whitby Ontario Ontario Energy Group knocks on the door. Demands to know if I am the homeowner. Asked him what he wanted or leave. Told me he was here to inspect the furnace and air conditioning due to new provincial regulations. Told him I didn't do business at the door. He said it was because I didn't answer their call to make an appointment. Nobody ever left a voicemail. He insisted he had to do an inspection because of the provincial regulations. Asked him for paperwork from the province indicating an inspection was needed. He didn't have any. Asked him for the phone number where I could verify his information and I would book an appointment if I believed it was legit. Found many internet references and complaints about misleading and fraudulent encounters with Ontario Energy Group. Beware.

Jan. 18 2017 at 1:40 someone knocked at my door in Ottawa suburb. It was a young man and a young women who said they had come to my house to inspect my furnace and my AC. I asked them where they had got the information that they should come to my place. They were confused and could not (would not? ) answer, especially since I told them the house had no furnace (it has baseboard heat) and no AC unit (only window units if needed).
They said maybe the previous owner has a furnace or AC. I told them that the house has never had these, as I know the history of my home and I have been the only home owner.
After the people left from my door looking as if somebody had set them up - to come to my house that had never had either a furnace or an AC and they being so ill informed, I looked up these scams and found that identical ones had been reported around Ontario going back at least a year.
I'm writing this to let people know that these apparent scammers are going about in Ottawa, Riverview - Alta Vista neighbourhood.

Ontario Energy Group furnace and ac inspection

Person came to our door saying that they do inspections because the laws for coolants have changed, and wanted to see the unit. I Google them and found out that they are misrepresenting themselves by implying that this inspection is mandatory, when they are in the business of selling furnaces and Ac units. I learned a lesson; Ask them to wait until you check them out.

Ontario Energy Group door to door salespeople

It's that time of year ago, when those PREDATORS come out to PREY. A person knocked on my door today, When I went to answer it he said "I'm from the Ontario Energy BOARD, and I'm here to inspect your air-conditioning unit . I told him I wasn't interested. He replied "You don't understand, you need to have it inspected" - I asked him for his ID - which he replied his "MANAGER" had it, across the road. I said, well until I see who you are, I'm not talking to you. So he went out and called his manager over, (HE NEVER DID SHOW UP). Anyways, again, very persistent, I called my husband to the door. My husband also proceeded to tell him, he was not interested in what he was selling and to please leave. He replied, MANDATORY INSPECTION, my husband being in the business for years, asked him WHAT exactly he want to inspect, he became very flustered and tried to challenge my husband. Again he was sent away. I came in called Local Police (Windsor) who sent a car right over. The officer spoke to both the "manager" and the other salesperson, and was told to KNOCK OFF the INTIMIDATING SALES CALLS. If people aren't interested to leave. Why should the police have to be called? DEAL WITH YOUR SALESPEOPLE before people are scammed.
