Installed Onduline green roof sheeting on our new house build 1995. The impregnated black bitumen that is in the sheets, started leeching through the green colour within a couple of years, causing big splotches of black throughout the roof.
We complained to Onduline and they came to inspect and agreed that there was a fault in the product. They painted the roof at their cost in 2000.
Within a couple of years the paint was peeling off in large strips across the roof. This got worse and worse over the years.
I contacted them again and they came to inspect. Told me that the roof had not been cleaned or properly prepared for the paint job in 2000, but they would investigate.
Have now sent me an e-mail telling me that it is not their responsibility - we must sort it out ourselves - paint it with a water-based acrylic.
I contacted a large paint manufacturer and they tell me that I cannot use acrylic on Onduline sheeting because the paint reacts with the bitumen. This explains the paint peeling off their paint job ...! They obviously don't have a clue about their own product.

SO BE WARNED - ONDULINE ROOF SHEETING IS A LOUSY PRODUCT. We now probably have to replace our entire roof with a worthwhile product at HUGE EXPENSE after only 14 years. There are numerous other properties in our area with the same problems with their Onduline roofs.

BEWARE OF THIS TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE PRODUCT. (see photos)

My Photos did not load. The ONDULINE roof warping and buckling and as a result the roof is porous.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT

I bought a wooden Horse stable 8 years ago and the manufacture of the shed used ONDULINE sheets on the roof of the shed.
Please see photos below of how the ONDULINE roof and how it has sags. I would not recommend this product to anyone

Worst Roofing product ever ! Even after Onduline SA had representatives here, all they did were to discredit the developer in stating they didn't install according to specifications. Problem is that everybody in our Estate have the same issues and the sagging, leaks and colour change to black from green is happening on all the roofs no matter of the spacing of the trusses / perlims. We all now have issues with insurance not covering this due to defective installation or product. This is costing us all between R50 000 - R100 000 in damage to replace after only 6 - 9 years of construction and the product provide 15 year waterproof guarantee ?

PLEASE GET THIS PRODUCT REMOVE FROM THE SHELVES !

We roofed our house in Ghana with Onduline roofing materias, and within nine years the roof has lost its color. The roofing has sagged, and there is leakage every where in my house. Clearly I would have to replace the entire roofing. Onduline is a very bad product with very horrible customer service. The manufacturing company should be banned from doing business in Ghana and elsewhere.

Our roof of 400m2 in New Zealand has suffered all the same issues. Softening, sagging, turning to dust, thinning out, leaking. The ridge sections are even worse than the main sheets. Same problems of complete denial by the importers & suppliers. We have also had to undertake complete replacement at huge expense. Do not purchase a building with this product installed.

We built our stables 14 years ago the onduline sheets look melted and go like wet paper in the rain after reading the complaints I now no a new roof will be needed as no mention of successful painting. Has anyone had success paining these sheets? Or am I just going to waste more money. Thanks

I am absolutely horrified since I am a property developer and have to explain now to 44 clients why their roofs are in the state they're in. Surely the new consumers act should be able to protect us from something like this. Judging only by the few comments listed above, not even to mention some of the other websites, this product should not be allowed to be sold in SA anymore. After two days of heavy rains the sheets are almost like wet cardbord. Not even to mention the discolouration.

ONDULINE SHOULD NOT BE SOLD IN SA! IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR SA TEMPERATURES AS IT LOSES IT COLOUR RAPIDLY AND IT'S SHAPE SOON AFTERWARDS. I used Onduline on Cape West coast because I was worried about long term rust issues and liked the thermal properties. The Cromadeck roofs around me faded (much less) and will outlast Onduline ten fold!

THE WORST ROOFING PRODUCT ON THE MARKET. I live in the Midrand area and yes we were hit by the storm on Saturday 20 Oct 2012 and my ONDULINE roof sheets were totally shredded. DO NOT TOUCH THIS PRODUCT. (Six years old) Corrugated iron carport erected next to the cottage only sustained a few dents.

Worst product ever. I installed it at the recommendation of the builder on my new 40x30 post and beam barn. It looked nice for a year or two and then started to degrade. There was no satisfaction on the "lifetime" warranty. It had a short lifetime! I cannot find a distributor in my area or anywhere for that matter for the product now to get a few sheets for a temporary fix for huge holes. They are scamming the world with this product.

Same problem. Onduline roof installed. Faded, discoloured and fell apart. Onduline distributor didnt want to know. Said it was our fault for not painting it! Have removed the roof and replaced with coloursteel at our cost! Would not recommend onduline to anyone. Even our architect that originally specified it for its environmental benefits will not longer go near the product. Bad product and service. This product will not be around in a few years as they have more problems than success stories. NZ

My roof has been erected with ONDULINE sheets in March 2005. The sheets are colouring very bad, shows sagging, shows cracks and I had a major leak in January 2011. Onduline's rep came out to inspect and their report states that my roof was not done according to their spesifications ie 4 sheets overlap instead of 3 - although the leak did not occur on the overlaps, and that the house is build in a higher UV area as normal - ie 20km north of Pretoria. I bought the ONDULINE sheets with a 15 YEAR NO MAINTENANCE GUARANTEE, but ONDULINE refuse to honour this. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH ONDULINE!

Our Green Onduline sheeting roofing entire house of approx 230 m^2 at less than 9 years old has lost almost all of its colour is almost entirely black Colour sticks to material skin when working on the surface and sheeting has problems with splits at fastner joints after snow of a few inches and will need replacing. Not a satisfactory product for roofing in SA midlands conditions
