Ohsu Unethical carpal tunnel/median forearm surgery

The surgeon I met with at the plastic surgery clinic didn't do the actual surgery. He observed and directed the procedure but the resident surgeon did the work. I didn't know this because I was unconscious at the time.
They never told me this is how they do the surgery and led me to believe a surgeon with decades of experience was doing the procedure.
The surgery didn't work and I am still having problems. Then they refused to admit this and tried to convince me the resident did just as good a job and the primary surgeon because he was there the whole time observing and directing and nothing went wrong and there is nothing for me to do but go see a neurosurgeon about possible spine surgery.
They will not look into why the poor outcome and don't believe they did anything wrong at any point along the process.
I have to go somewhere else to get my arm and hand looked at because there is NO WAY IN HELL I am going to let them work on my spine if they can't be ethical about a simple carpal tunnel median forearm release.
If not malpractice this is certainly fraudulent. I believe they deliberately use patients for their residents to get experience on and don't tell the patient upfront assuming everything will be fine, the patient won't find out because they are unconscious during the procedure and they are invulnerable to any repercussions.
If you go in their for surgery make sure someone goes with you and then make sure you know who is cutting you open, putting the instruments in you and doing the hands on work. Don't assume it's the guy you consulted with or the person who the insurance billed. You could have a novice doing the surgery when thinking it was a seasoned professional.
I have to stop typing because my hand is numb...

Ohsu Violation of Patients Rights to Informed Consent

OHSU violates patients informed consent with "ghost procedures"
1. leading a patient to believe that an experienced faculty member will be performing a surgery, only to have a couple of interns supervised by a resident step in and take over once the patient is sedated.
2. employing drug facilitated gurney consents
3. allowing several students, interns, and residents to perform intimate (breast, rectal, and pelvic) exams on a sedated patient (only the surgeon may need to do this for patient care the rest is for education) waiting for surgery, without informing or asking the patient.
4. has even been known to leave sedated female patients left undraped while janitors clean up around them.

Place is awful...They miss a lot, don't return phone calls and can be rude and cold. They recently questioned the diagnosis of a Mayo clinic! dr. I saw!
A recent experience showed me they care more about making money than me as a patient. They also seem poorly run and their administration is poor from what I have observed and been told. Twice, left messges for clinic managers with no response over weeks...I filed a complaint, very little feedback or response.
Often you only see a student doctor but are charged for seeing a regular doctor. Trying to find other doctors and get out of their system...

Ohsu This low level of care should be illegal!

I went to two doctors at their South Waterfront Family Medicine practice. One responded to my plea for help finding out what was causing gait problems, numbness, and horrible pain first by accusing me of being a junkie - then when I made it clear I didn't want pain medication, she wrote in my chart that I had narcissistic personality disorder! On to the next doctor - who my progressive problems with numbness and pain were just something I would have to learn to live with. The whole time I was there, not once did anyone do a neurological exam, test a reflex, anything.

Finally, I went to a doctor who *didn't* practice at OHSU - who actually checked my legs, and found I had lost the ability to sense vibration in my legs. One question later ("Do you have anyone in your family with pernicious anemia?") we had a cause and treatment both. Two months later I feel great, don't have much pain, toes are barely tingling. I wouldn't want to speculate on where I would be if I was still letting OHSU's make-believe doctors not treat me.

If you're thinking of going to one of OHSU's nice-looking new clinics, don't. They might look nice, but they staff them with doctors who don't know what they're doing, and who don't care. The reason I posted this is in hopes that it will save someone the same nightmare I went through with them.

I took my wife to OHSU as I had heard they were the best cancer care hospital in Oregon. We got there on a Friday evening and waited for 4 hours for a room to open up which is often to be expected. Eventually she was assigned to 5C room 17-1 which originally was a one patient room but now holds 2 patients sepererated by a curtain. There were patients of all types from auto accidents to mental cases that often waltzed up and down the hallway with a CNA. 17-1 is nearest the door with no window so people were constantly going back and forth at the foot of her bed to treat or visit the other patient. She was there for 13 days during which time she was never bathed, shampooed, or had her teeth brushed. She was fairly strong for her stage 4 colon cancer condition when admitted but when she was finally discharged, she was so weak she didn't qualify for chemo therapy at our local cancer center. She was made to fast for a colonoscopy 'first thing in the morning' which turned into 'about 11:00' then possibly '4:30' and then 'well it will have to wait until tomorrow' - so she fasted for 2 days when is should have been only one. Then they were going to put in liver stints on a friday which turned into a monday so a 12 hour fast on sunday. Then that was delayed so another fast for tuesday which did happen on Tuesday afternoon. This room is close to a nurses station so there was always a lot of noise which along with the every 3 hour blood sampling made it almost impossible to rest. They did give her pain meds but often the response to get them or help going to the bathroom, took up to 10 minutes or longer to get any help. This was a totally horrible experience and I'd never reccommend OSHU to anyone in need of serious medical attention what happened is how I imagine a 1940's hospital would have been like. It was more torture than treatment. Took her back to our small rural hospital for her final days and her treatment and care there was wonderful and if I had it to do over again wouldn't even consider OHSU or recommend it to anyone
