I live in florida and drove to new york. I had used garden state pkwy. I paid all my tolls and dropped money in the basket. Apparently this system is used by e - z pass to catch people off guard and get funds to operate. Fifty cents times five thousand percent will give e - z pass the twenty five dollars violation charge. I had made the mistake to use this route and found owing seventy five dollars. I was told to send fifty dollars and the two dollars in tolls and they would waive a one time deal of twenty five dollars. This is such a great deal i told my wife hell will freeze over before i go back to new york. I wonder if the government ever fiscalize the amount of consumers that get these outrages violations and are responsible enough to check and wonder maybe there is something wrong here. Maybe the purpose is for people to be confused in using e - z pass and they can collect revenues with this fish and bait system.

I see so many of us on here getting crap service or scam treatment to shake us down . Make sure you call and send notes to the BB and the Chamber of commerce and then the politicians pf the area. I had a problem with a car years ago and when I got the politicians involved the pressure they put on the auto dealer made the dealer take care of it . Also send a letter to the attorney general of your sate and area and the NJ attorney general and pit the tow against each other and then you will start to get results. We know that the BBB does nothing but it is a start and more eyes on your situation.

If anyone has better ideas of better angles to fight this scam please send to me at ( jkornhaas8@gmail.com ) and I would be glad to help each other to fight this unjust charges and theft. Also I would be willing to get a lawyer and pay the lawyer before I gave money that I DO NOT OWE to the EZpass who have played games oveeeer the years

We cant talk to EZPASS then EZpass could talk to our lawyers

EZPASS is charging me for a car that I do not own ! I called the DMV and asked them to help me prove that I do not own a car that I do not own . Well DMV sent me a e-mail saying that I do not own a car that I am said to own by the EZPASS people . So I sent that email to EZPASS as proof and they said they still want me to prove that I do not own something that I do not own . WTF? HOw do you do that ? How do you prove that you DO NOT own something that you do not own?

This proves that EZPASS are shakedown artist and crooks ! I would rather pay a lawyer and cause them trouble that pay them for their dirty scam and crooked actions.

We see you EZPASS and know that you do this to just make more shake down money the dirty way !

You wont take an email from DMV as proof so NOw I want you to prove to me that you do not own the Brooklyn Bridge! Could you prove that? no , but if you did own it then you could show a tax bill or deed or ownership with your address on it ... but if you do not own the bridge then you have no ability to prove it ...

We had the same thing happen to us. there were no cash lines available, so we ended up paying $10.15 for the toll plus and admin fee of $50. I agree, this is a racket and an unethical way for NJ to collect unwarranted monies from unsuspecting travelers.

Be prepared if you travel in that area - see if there is a way to avoid the toll road.

We don't charge tolls in NC for our major highways, and they are in much better condition than NJ highways!

I had the same thing happen to me. Travelling south on Rte 1 across the Trenton-Morrisville Bridge, there is no longer a cash lane. Now "pay by mail", like the Penn Turnpike. I received a "Toll Violation" bill for the the $3 toll, plus a $30 administration bill. I paid the $3 as they recommended and in in "Dispute Section", noted that there is no longer a cash lane. I subsequently received a second notice, FALSELY claiming that I did not respond to the first notice. Yet, they gave me credit for the $3 toll payment. They now claimed that I owed $30.

By the way, I got an invoice from the Penn Turnpike for the toll, with NO OTHER FEE. I gladly paid this invoice since it was clearly for only for the toll.

I can't help but conclude that this is obviously a criminal, money-making racket, preying for out of state motorists like me (I live in Indiana)!

I have noticed this a few times, where this isn't always a cash lane to go through so you are forced to use the ez-pass lane which, has happened to me SEVERAL TIMES. It wouldn't be an issue if I got sent a bill for the appropriate amount and I have no problem paying the issued violation. That is not the case. If there is no way to get to a cash lane even though there is an advertised cash lane, and I am forced to use the EZ Pass then there is no way for me not to get hit with these fees unintentionally, it's all intentional. With several states, getting rid of cash only and exact change lanes. What am I supposed to do but, get a fee for going through a toll I didn't have a choice to go through getting hit with that $50 fee for a $2 toll violation. Which is absurd. Processing fees or otherwise, I enjoy driving and traveling from state to state, this is the first time I have ever seen this and I am absolutely appalled.

I received a letter from NJ EZ Pass saying I owe over 50.00 for a 1.50 toll fee. This is on a day I was at work in Glenmont NY, and I sold the car those license plates were on a year previously and turned in the plates to the state of New York. WTF?

The EZ Pass system has found a gold mine. That is charging the NJ Garden State Parkway drivers unjust penalties, as stiff as $50 for a say $.75 "violation"! Just like me, many drivers can swear they had paid their tolls faithfully and drove on the correct lanes through the toll plazas yet to face occasional penalty request by the EZ administration. When objected, they never bother to give any information, for example, as to the correctness of their computerized sensors at the location specified, etc.
This has been going on for too long. Is this what our language really meant by the phrase "highway robbery"? There has to be another way to augment the salaries and benefits of the EZ system administrators.

I travel the Parkway everyday and about two months ago I missed the Toms River Toll Booth. My bad I will admit. I received a penalty notice for .75 cents plus a $ 50..0 penalty charge. Who came up with this ridiculous number and is there any forgiveness for a simple mistake ? I paid the toll amount twice and threw in an extra dollar for their mail costs. The original penalty states that if the ticket is not paid in full the EZ Pass Administration will contact credit bureaus, have your registration taken away and even go after my credit. How pompous and threatening of them. I obviously paid my debts and am not dodging them. The EZ Pass Administration does not see it this way. They do not care about me or anyone else. If anyone working for the Parkway or Turnpike misses a toll do you think they pay ? Uh, that would be NO ! The State EZ Pass System WANTS all of us to miss tolls so that they can collect 50 times more than the original toll charge for each violation. ###, white collar criminal ### !

I live in New Jersey and use the parkway on a daily basis. About three years ago i was working in Eatontown N.J and took exit 105 everyday. The toll booth was broken at that exit and does not register money sometimes. I received eight tickets for in one month for not paying the toll, which I paid every time. The first three or four times i even put an extra fifty cents or a dollar to try and get the machine to register the money, but it never worked. It wound up taking almost five months for them to acknowledge that the booth was broken, that is after they sent me three more violations. Now my girlfriend has to drive south sometimes on the parkway for work and she is going through the same thing . We sent letters to them explaining that situation and that the booth or booths are not working correctly. There response was a letter denying our claim and telling her she has no choice but to pay these four or five tickets she has received for tolls she paid and sometimes over paid.
The combination of the these broken toll booths and the lack of cash / receipt lanes is starting to seem like nothing more than a tool being used to gain more money from hard working citizens. The lack of cash / receipts lanes shows the strategy being used to force everyone into getting EZ-PASS, and if you don't have EZ-PASS or exact change you get forced to go through without paying and then receive a ticket. They have to give an option for other forms of payment at all times, especially when the toll is like a dollar fifty. A lot of people do not have that much in change on them and need the option to go through the cash / receipt lane.
The situation my girlfriend is in, and I was previously in along with many other people is getting out of hand. I know that with any mechanical device there will be malfunctions or breakdowns, and I am sure that there are people who make false claims. The problem is that these machines do malfunction and are left that way for some time, and in these time periods which occur a lot, honest people who are paying the tolls are receiving tickets and when they write in to explain what happened they are being denied and forced to pay the tickets or face worse punishments. On top of that even if they do accept your claim you still have to pay the toll amount again, so they are still receiving double payment or more.
The worst part of how they handle the situation and EZ-PASS violations as a whole is the fact that you can not even talk to a person. You can write a letter and hope they accept your claim. I understand the amount of calls they would receive a day would be outrages, but if you are going to run a program like EZ-PASS, just like any large company or corporation you need to have more lines of communication with the people using your service. The most productive line of communication is and always will be through talking to your clients, or in this situation the citizens who use these toll roads.
These issues need to be corrected, and can be. All it would take is to make sure there is always a cash / receipts lane open and have a few open during high traffic times. Also spread out the different lanes so there is an option for each type of lane on the left, right, and middle of the tolls. Sometimes the exact change lane is only on one side and if you are on the opposite during traffic you get forced to go through a EZ-PASS because you can not get over to the other side. When it comes to the broken exact change lanes maybe it is time to look into upgrading the machines used to more reliable machines. Along with this there needs to be weekly or bi weekly inspections on all machines to make sure they are working correctly. I know that this will cost money to make these corrections, but it needs to be fixed. This has been an ongoing issue for far to long and i along with every other person using these toll roads are tired of being ignored, denied, and exploited for our hard earned money. PLEASE FIX THESE ISSUES !

Jeff

This is a racket! Traveled in NJ and PAID ALL TOLLS in cash, to a live person (don't have an EZPASS)...get home from vacation, two weeks go by and BAM, a $50 fine over a $3 toll, that I PAID! No way to fight and win, without a receipt...grrr! So pissed, what a racket, toll booth attendant keeping cash and state gets $50, yea like I will ever travel through another toll without taking a photo of toll attendant taking my money and ALWAYS getting a receipt! How do these people sleep at night!?!?!?

Important Safety Tip!

E-ZPass replacement tags can get improperly scanned during mail delivery! I noticed $16.50 in (3 toll) charges on JAN 24 - 25, 2014 for a newly issued tag on the NJTP / I-95 corridor. I have not scanned any of my tags for over a year in any toll plaza. As it happens my new tag was being mailed from the NY MTA office to Virginia by ground transport.

When I called 'Timothy' in their NY cust.-service office, he stated 'that happens'; The USPS-transport truck went through the (3) toll plazas and MY live tag was scanned on that trip! He promised to refund all fees for that day. I'll have to log in to check on that later.

Point-1: The replacement tag was NOT shielded in a Mylar coated bag on this mail journey. Aluminum coated baggies are not expensive tools. Is this just carelessness or do they employ grifters in their agency?

Point-2: Credit cards mailed to customers are INACTIVE until you receive them and activate them. E-ZPass tags are linked directly to your C.Card; It this too exotic a concept for the Inter-Agency-Group?! Can you say "Class Action?!"

When returning the OLD Active Battery-powered active tag, I wrapped it in ALU foil from the kitchen. At least the new narrower [S13] tags are PASSIVE RFID style so they should not need replacing in the future.

Nobody sweats the details like a municipal agency. Check out the Wikipedia entry for E-ZPass. They detail the regional consortium agencies who DO NOT charge monthly 'administrative' fees or steep per-tag charges. That's worth the visit!

I would like all to please go over your ez pass statement real good.
I had received my invoice which placed me in the negative, I contacted ez -pass to dispute. There are two checks that were mailed in and cashed BY EZ PASS but not posted to my account. After many calls and faxes regarding this matter it has not been resolved. I told leave us a number and email so that we may contact you. As of yet no one has. I sent them copies of my checks with the ez pass stamped on the back date and time of arrival. I had been explaining to customer service that this needs to be resolved but what I am told is that I should make another payment using a ATM card to bring me out of the rears before it goes into collection, how about that, you got my money I have shown proof that the money was received and cashed by' again NJ EZ PASS. All they keep trying to do to figure out if my account number was on the check correctly, well I do on-line banking the checks that had been previous submitted had been cashed and posted to my account but these had not, the two checks in question had the same information as the others. So why should I be penalized for a mistake on the part of NJ EZ PASS, it's clear that they have it so why not just credit my account other then give me the run around. And guess what no one to complain to, I am now on my own trying to resolve this issue. Every other number that I dial wants to transfer me back to the NJ EZ PASS CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPT. which apparently can not help resolve this issue. I am tired of emailing and faxing over this information. I know that it's only forty dollars but it's forty dollar I can use . And it's my money. To know that I have now become a victim of NJ STATE hurts you guys just robbed me with no help. So what do I do, what do I do. By the way they really need to update there faxing equipment it apparent that they are out of date. Also some customer support was very polite and there was others that if they were in my presence' o boy.

Took a trip to NJ around 7/21/2013. I was on the NJ Turnpike about a dozen times that week and encountered no problems except for the collection booth at Pascack Valley. I put the $1.50 toll in, and it did not register as paid. I tossed six quarters in again, still didn't register. Having cars behind me and not knowing what else to do, I proceeded. Got a ticket yesterday, 08/15/2013, for $51.50. So, this boils down to either incompetence in failing to maintain the collections booth, or an outright scam. I'm really not sure which. I've just emailed the Governor's office and am about to call him. We'll see how this goes...

My wife and I traveled through NJ a few weeks ago. Paid cash all the way as I don't travel enough to warrant and EZ pass account and from what I'm reading, probably a good idea. I remember going through Raritan South tool booth and when I deposited the $1.50 (six quarters) into the basket, I didn't receive the paid indicator. As I posed for a few seconds, an impatient motorist behind me started hitting his horn. Confused, I drove through. I had a bad feeling about it and sure enough, received a $50 administration bill along with the $1.50. I tried to call the NJ customer service number on the citation, but when I entered the Violation # it then asked for the Zip code. I entered mine, NG. I entered the NJ Zip on the citation, NG. Frustrated, I went to their website where I, after much searching, entered a complaint. I received an email that they received the complaint and would get back to me after review. You probably guessed, they haven’t gotten back to me and the due date is 7/31/13. My thinking is they expect people like me to wait and then they will hit you with late fees. Looks like I'll be added to the long list of "legal" extortion. Chris Christie should be ashamed of himself. Republican? I wonder. Needless to say, my wife and I will never go back to that cesspool they call Atlantic City. Maybe $51.50 is a small price to pay to rid NJ (and NY) as a place to holiday.

I had EZ Pass. Then they raised my monthly pre-payment (because that is what it is -- a pre-payment for no service that has been used yet) up to $50 based on one month when I was going in to New York. After I stopped going in to New York they refused to lower it back to $25 per month. Customer service just flatly refused, saying "we can't do that." So I turned it off and sent the thing back (certified mail, with receipt thank you.) They said I never sent it and tried to charge me $45 for it. I provided the copy of the receipt. They lost it. This went on and on. Meanwhile, I moved to an area where there are a lot of tolls after living most of life somewhere without tolls. Several times I have been forced to go through empty toll plazas unable to pay because I do not have change. There is no person to take my money. THIS IS ILLEGAL. I am not going to be strong-armed into buying another rip-off EZ Pass. The fines went up in a very short period of time from $25 for not paying a 50 cent toll, which was already ridiculous, to $50 for not paying a 50 cent toll. Someone is getting FAT off of this disgrace. This place is getting as corrupt as the former Soviet Union. There is no accountability and no sense of service toward the public, which is what EZ pass should be. I pay my taxes to fix the road. Sp I refuse to shell out some mafia payola fine of $50 for a 50 cent toll. GFYS. I hope those who "run" EZ Pass all get arrested and go to jail where they belong. Or get sued and lose. At this point the state of new jersey is just plain disgusting.

Hello... All of you out there. Call and also send an Email to the governors office of Chris Cristy. That's what I did and a person from the transportation department called me and I did not have to pay the fraudulent fine. It worked. They said I missed a $1.00 toll.
There was no way that my wife would let me do that.

I paid 8$, a 5 and 3 1's and got a violation. How can someone pay cash in a cash lane and get an EZ pass fine? I got off the NJ Parkway to go local in order to get onto the cash lane. Turned left, then right, to about the far right of the toll plaza. I joked with a black girl who collected my $8 and said I made it here, and I drove through NJ! She smiled and I said "All set" and she nodded. Violation says lane 24. I was told to provide a receipt. I kept talking with the girl at [protected] and she finally talked with her supervisor. I am to write my account on the appeal form and send it in. I was told that since this is the 1st time, the charge would be waived. It's also my 1st time over the GWB. I used to go up the NYS thruway and decided to try the NJP for the 1st time. I don't think I'd better ever do that ever again never. I'll pay more on the NYS as per tolls but less in fees and fines over the GWB. I can go out over the GWB but not back in without a toll issue. After reading so many complaints, we'd best go around this another way if we don't need to. Every single cash lane I ever go across anywhere, I'll ask for a receipt and give my fine story if they don't want to. I hope they honor what they said and waive my fee.

Just how are they getting away with this? It seems everyone has had a bogis violation from EZ Pass. Having EZ Pass doesn't help either..I know several people who have recieved violations and have paid (including the $25.00 fine), because they felt they couldn't do anything about it. I have heard that EZPass is a private company..is this true?
Judging by the amount of compaints posted here ( and this is just one venue) this is out of control. I can't believe that no lawyer or even newspaper is interested in this.

Harassed by New Jersey EZ pass.
Sent violation notice. Said it was the second notice. Charge was $25 penalty for a $4 charge. I have a valid PA EZ pass account that I use on a regular basis. This was not the second notice that I received, this was the first. EZ pass said I could resolve this online. I could not. I called and was treated horrendously by a representative. Tried to file a complaint online. NJ Attorney General complaint site did not work.

EZPASS SUCKS
1. No Customer Service!
2. It says "Call Service Center" you call and it says go online, you go oniline and it says enter account number. EZPASS hasn't sent me 1 invoice yet! So I don't have my account number!
3. I email them with this complaint.. in a profeesional manner.. 3 days later, stiiiilll no reply.
4. I commute dialy 55 miles up the Parkway, everyday it says "Call Service Center"
5. They charge you by "mistake" sometimes.
6. They need to give you more stickys for the back of the tag. ;)
7. It's all part of the governments plan...

From July 2010 until Nov 2010 I have received 5 EZPass violations and I only travled on the Parkway in that period of time about 5 times. So therefore, every time I get on the parkway I get a ticket and every time I have paid the toll. It is so aggravating and frustrating. I feel like it has to be some kind of scam so that NJ to collect money. All of my violations include a clear picture of my license plate, but in all the cases I am 100% sure that I paid the toll. I try to go through all lanes where someone collects the money, however, that is not always the option. I always make sure that it says toll paid before driving off, but I still get tickets. I am thinking that the only way to avoid it is to purchase EZ Pass, which is ridiculous when I barely use the parkway. I don't know what the solution is?

I have recieved 3 or 4 EZPass violations. I do not have EZPass and have always paid the tolls in cash. The last few violations I paid, but just the dollar..refused to pay the $25.00 service charge. I tried to argue the last violation but they denied it..I have to pay. Who is EZPass anyway? Does each state handle their own? Isn't there a lawyer out there who wants to start a class action suit?

I am seriously thinking of dropping EZ-Pass. What a shame, as it was sold as a way to save time and hassle and if it did work properly it'd certainly be a help. But I can't pay my bills as it is, I'll be damned if I allow a company like EZ-Pass to rip me off.

I just received a $58.00 violation notice in the mail, from EZ Pass, that stated that I did not pay the $8.00 toll for the Lincoln Tunnel, in an EZ pass lane. I clearly remember paying cash to the toll booth clerk, at a cash/EZ-Pass combo toll booth, before entering the Lincoln Tunnel. The notice of violation does not include a photo of my car. As I'm reading other complaints on this board, I'm wondering; Could it be possible that some LT toll both clerks are pocketing the money from unsuspecting drivers, who pay the exact toll and who don't ask for a receipt?

I paid the toll taker the exact toll amount, $8.00. He did not hand me a receipt and I did not ask for one. Since he didn't have to give me any change, and I left the toll booth to continue driving into the tunnel, what would prevent that toll taker from not opening up his cash register, and -instead, pocketing the $8.00 that I just gave him? If he doesn't open his cash register, and I don't have an EZ Pass, a violation is automatically charged to me, identified through my car's license plate, for non-payment of toll.

Many drivers pay the exact toll, and the Lincoln Tunnel toll both clerks rarely give receipts unless a driver asks for one. So no one would be wise to a possible crime committed by toll booth clerks. This could be a very lucrative crime for a dishonest toll plaza clerk(s), and very lucrative for EZ Pass.

If this is true, than it's a huge story -Front page news. Anyone out there agree with my theory?

I don't feel lonely now after reading all these reviews! On July 24th, 2010 I went to NJ from DC area, I paid all my tolls, I was really careful, reading all the signs in advance to get toll indications, but when I got to the Toll Plaza to 78W express lane I got so confused and lost! The only two cash lanes were unreachable; I could not go all the way through from the entrance point to those booths, finally it was too late to maneuver the car so I was forced to pass the NO CASH lane, I believe I will get a ticket according to all the readings here. This sucks! I was always careful enough to pay and piss me off they don’t give any chance of forgiveness for the first time you’ve done this forced mistake.

My complaint is similar to those above. I drove down to New Jersey a couple of weeks ago using the G.S.P. I hadn't driven on that road since last year and I think this Easy Pass Lane thing may have changed. I'm not certain. But, I do know that I was almost killed a couple of times (I'm a very experienced driver with no accident record ...ever) approaching the tolls. Yesterday, when I opened my mail I was shocked to find a letter from the "Enforcement Action" of the G.S.P. saying that they are fining me $25.00 plus the $1 toll because I used Easy Pass. I was driven into the wrong lane by aggressive drivers and couldn't get over to the lane, that's my recollection. I don't have Easy Pass since I don't have a constant need for it. The signs for the Cash & Easy Pass roads and lanes are utterly confusing! I don't think it's any accident that they are set up that way. I believe that New Jersey set out purposely to levy fines on innocent people like myself to bolster their revenue. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM FOR THIS DECEPTION?

I missed a green light and tooted the horn like the sign stated if the light did not say Paid. I put in my four quarters into the basket and nothing happened. I received a violation in the mail for $1.00 plus $25.00 admin fee. I sent back the letter and explained that I did pay. They denied it.
I went on the website and there is no way to dispute a violation unless you are an EZ Pass user. I called the automatic phone number with the same results. I wrote an E-mail to the new Governor Christie. Got an E-mail back and a phone call the next day from a woman at the transportation department. She told me I didn't get the violation where I thought, but I had run through an EZ pass lane without a pass. I don't remember doing that. I always went for the cash baskets and paid every single one from New York to Atlantic City. The woman said to send a check for $1.00 and that would settle the violation. If you have a problem with the EZ-Pass System, E-mail the Governor and you may get your problem solved. If enough people do this, maybe the Governor will do something about it.

I went through an EZ-Pass only lane mistakenly two days ago when I needed to drive to NYC through Lincoln Tunnel. It was my fault, admittedly. But the lanes were so confusing. It's not allowed to back the car when you went into the wrong lane, and it's barely impossible to do it because there are always cars behind you. I called them today and the person told me I couldn't pay the toll earlier until they mail me the bill including the fine. I seriously doubt they're very pleased to see unlucky drivers like me who have to pay them more because of their confusing signs. I also went to PA and NJ, and they had much bigger and clearer signs indicating which lanes I should go through. Lincoln Tunnels didn't do it in that way, they just used small fonts saying whether you could pay in cash or not. Once you could read the signs, you might have already been in the wrong lane. It's like fishing and bait. Curse them.

This might be the time for a Federal Investigation or maybe better for everyone a CLASS ACTION lawsuit. I made a trip to DC in April and paid in cash each toll and my wife logged each toll but I am now here because they sent me a fine letter.
EZ Pass hopes you won't fight back and the company can continue to cash in and fatten their packets with ill got gains. At this point I would recommend if paying cash demand a receipt and if your refused tell the staff you require one and don't leave until you have one.
