Ok heres it is. I have had enough I have 20+ rental properties and Nicor has chosen to charge me the gas bills the tenants have not paid. I have been fighting this act for several months. I am stressed out they have put it on my credit. Nicor actually back dates the gas bills and charges me for it. I must prove it is not mine .What is that? I never told them or signed anything saying they could do that. I even put passwords on my accounts so that dont happen. Nicor said they can do it not their problem.I pay my gas bill not my tenants. I would like to start a class action law suit. I have gone to the ICC and they work for Nicor they told me. Go figure. Who is going win this?

Here we go again. Every year at this time we lanlords must fight Nicor gas to prove that we have tenants living in our rentals. Now Nicor says the lease we have and the legal eviction court papers showing they were there are not proof who lived in, or who was renting the property . What? The tenants have become wise to Nicors system and are allowing Nicor to put gas in lanlords name. I have been fighting this for several years. Nothing has changed. Now Nicor says the ICC will allow them do put in the landlords name with no questions ask. What ? If I am not mistaken against the law to put a utility in our name without our permission. How does the ICC agree to let Nicor gas have the say when to put gas in our names? I will continue to fight this. I am still looking for a group/law office to file a class action law suite against Nicor gas.

I totally agree. If I don't pay my gas bill they would cut my gas off, why does this not apply to tenants that don't pay. You can believe that these sleazy tenants know this and that is the reason they take the bill out of their names . They know Nicor is going to place the liability on the landlord and it is not right and definitely not fair.

My Family has also had the same problems. We were billed for over $2000.00 for one property a year after the tenants had moved out, and after numerous calls and emails to customer service, nothing has changed. Nicor customer service is a joke! all emails recommend that you call customer service, but there maybe be some help, we were able to speak to a state representative who saw all of our paperwork and agreed that this was ridiculous. So we are now in the process of getting this all sorted out. So for those of you who have any issues with Nicor in Northern, Il. Don Manzullo's office is probably the best way to go!

My grandmother had an account put in her name without her permission, and I'm sure she's going to have these same problems. They shouldn't allow it to be so easy for someone to put an account in someone's name without verifying if its them setting up the account.

I am now currently going for a hearing in my town against Nicor gas it has taken several months fighting this act of putting gas in my name without my permission. Nicor has chosen to put this bill on several accounts I currently have had. I will now hire a attorney to fight for me against Nicor as well as ask for the attorney fees. Do not give up if you have a lease for the tenants saying they pay all utilites take it to the end. File complaint with the ICC go to the website or call [protected] enough is enough.
When ICC say case closed Nicor wins ask for a hearing. They will now tell you this, you must ask them for the paperwork. ICC employess work for Nicor go figure. You must go to hearing if they dont take care of the problem, and you are in the right.

My sister is having the same problem with an apartment she rented in Rockford. Nicor is charging her a $1000 bill incurred by tenants. When they moved in she called the gas co. to confirm that the service was changed to their name, and they confirmed that it was. Now, after several months, they are requiring her to pay their ridiculous bill. Why didn't their service get shut down in the first place, how could they let their bill accumulate to $1000. We have no idea where to find an answer to this situation. Any ideas?

I sympathize with your situation These huge companies can afford to hide themselves behind illegal loopholes especially if the state of illinois has a piece of the pie, who is willing to help us, I cant seem to find one, there must be something we all can do, these corporate and government fat cats need to be shut down and put in there place and made to suffer and live in the real world like we do, as far as an honest person in government to help us---LOL good luck, in my eyes they are mostly pieces of ### that laugh and look down on us all, because think about it, what can we do, it's frustrating They have the "TOUGH ### PAY US " attitude we're the ones that suffer, they never will.

I am currently fighting Nicor on a similiar issue. Nicor actually took a bill that was in the name of my tenant, which dated back several years, and placed the bill in my name. Nicor had actually tried to bill both myself and my tenant simultaneously for equal periods of time for one parcel property. I have the statements to prove it. Here's the best part, the bills were different dollar figures. Nicor is without doubt bilking the state of Illinois customers out of an estimated 4.7 BILLION per year. I have actually been supplied proof through Nicor's bills that they have concocted ways to perform estimates (usually 30% to 40%) higher than actual usage during months where the per therm gas charge is at peak. They "credit" back the falsified therms during months where the per therm price is lowest. This all amounts to an estimated $470.00 per year per customer in excess charges. I am looking forward to pressing for a subpeona to access the Nicor Computer Source Code to further prove that there is malicious intent to overcharge consumers. The bottom line...the State of Illinois receives tax dollars from these bills. "Will an honest person in Government please stand up for us?"
