Apparently Nextel does not understand the words "cancel my account,." When I called to cancel my account in August 2007, which had two lines on it, they only canceled one phone line but they do not automatically cancel all lines! When you want to switch to their partner Sprint, they say you may without any early termination fees, but Early Termination fees do not apply just to your account, it applies to each phones and then they say you must import the number of the phone to your Sprint phone. My problem with their customer service is that they do not inform the consumer of these "conditions." Nextel's customer service reps are not informing people about these conditions, neither can it be found on the website. It is a deliberate attempt to continue contracts and receive more payments. Shame on them and Sprint for allowing this.
