Newstead Technologies Microsoft Surface 3

We purchased a Surface 3 on Xmas day from Newstead store at Jurong Point. After we got it home, we found the touch screen not working ( sales person only tested the keyboard and set-up some stuff for us in store, and we did not really test the touch screen, as who would think a new unit not working? ). We returned to store the next day, both sales person and store manager tested this unit, and it is indeed default, then they requested us to restore this unit (formatting), might help to solve this problem. We spent few hrs at home to do it, still not working, then we returned to store again on 27 Dec. Then store manager said they are not responsible for anyting after you purchase this unit and leave the store, and you can only go online to do Microsoft waranty register for repaire or replacement. I am personally quite shocked for their response. It is faulty unit, they do not deny its faulty but they will not exchange a new one for me. This is a really bad experience and especially their store manager's attitute, he even said " if you want to complaint, call CASE lor, call police lor"... We bought this Surface 3+Key board SGD 1097 in total, should be a good gift for self for Xmas. However, it is all ruined not only because it is faulty, but the store manager at Jurong Point such unprofessional and outrageous behavior.

Newstead Technologies Goods not delivered! False advertising

Bought the HP Pavilion H8-1170D at the IT Show on 10-Mar-12 and until today (07-Apr-12), still have not received it! Also, the free gifts that supposedly come with it, may not be available as HP will close their free gift redemption in end March and Newstead said they can only get their stock in April! Their sales tactic is obviously to get people to buy even though they don't have the stock!
Made numerous calls to Newstead but only get ambiguous answers from a guy called Jeff!

Newstead Technologies Cheated by salesman

i buy a laptop from 313 somerset newstead. i want 12" and paid for $660. the salesman Yeo Wei Lurng told me he will upgrade ram. and after more than 30 minute he set up everything.
i was so excited that i got new laptop. My family visit me and i show them what i buy, my brother said it is not 12" but 10" and he check the price from the internet. $398.
my brother complained and the store email him that i need to bring the 10" and they will change my laptop. they will also give me the 1 terra bytes of hard disk they put in the receipt. I pay so much and the salesman who i trusted cheated me. he never give me everything in the receipt. and if we never complain they will not respond to change the laptop.
Yeo Wei Lurng put things in the receipt but he never give the items to me. when my brother complain he said in the email that what happen is a mistake. accident put things in the receipt. and he never give me also the copy of receipt, only when my mother call they send to fax.
they say no crime in singapore. but what happen to me is evident what country it was.
i now scare to come at that store, maybe he will cheat me again.
i will never buy from any newstead store, i will also tell my friends not to buy from them. they are cheaters.

Newstead Technologies Rude manner and bad words

[09 May 2011]

This letter is to complain about the unsatisfactory service which I had bought for laptop Lenovo model no: Y570 (S$ 1499) from Newstead on 7th May 2011 road show at Funan Digitalife Mall. On the date of purchase one of their staff told us to register the product as fast as possible. So the next two days we opened the laptop and registered first according to their advice. After doing this, in a short while before installation any software, the laptop hanged and even cannot do ctrl+alt+del to restart it.

So we came all the way to the service centre at Sim Lim Square to check. At that time we met the staffs named Mr. Wong Chuan Jin, Mr. James Octoven and Mr. Richard Zhou. The one who checked on our laptop is Mr James. When he checked he saw the problems and he tried to do recovery to set factory default. It took about almost 1 hour to check and make testing on it.

According to the company policy, we told him to help us to change with another one because it's still within 7 days. After arguing about 15 or 20 minutes, finally he assured that the laptop is faulty and will change one to one for us.

Before they change, we honestly showed them the warranty registration on this product done by us. Once they seen, they told us they cannot change a new one and need to go down to the lenovo service centre and it's not their fault and cannot change for us. But Mr Wong called one of his colleague and told us to call the lenovo to cancel the registration first.

Along all this way Mr James always use the word 'I'm helping you my friend'. But actually the way he talked to us is very loudly with no respect. Not like the others Mr. Wong and Mr. Richard.

The ugliest thing is, as his word 'helping', one of my friend asked him what did you help us. He started shouting to us and even tried to fight with us. And in the end he said '###' in the front of newstead shop.

The other two Mr. Wong and Mr. Richard just watching at us. Didn't say anything to him and they let him to shout back to the customer.

Needless to say I am quite frustrated.

I expected a much higher level of service and I am quite disappointed.

From what I know about this case, there’s 3 person in group approach the Lenovo outlet at Sim Lim Square and while Mr. James doing diagnosing the laptop problem one of them which is the Lady Customer was mumbling speaking on their country dialect with unhappy tone till makes Mr. James was doing diagnosing feel so annoying, She did for few times mumbles her self in front of Mr. James when he was trying to help by following the company procedures.
Mr. James was saying that word “ we’re trying to help you’ it just trying to make the customer calm down and patient to wait but seems customer can’t wait and insist to do 1 to 1 exchange.
We’re as customer and as a human being, we also need to respect their company
Policy not to just simply insist something without follow the procedures, is not up to sales person to make decision to do exchange 1 to 1.
In this matter as I can see Mr. James wrong as he can’t hold he’s temper till his voice up to loud, and you as customer is that not call rude when you mumbling in front of other peoples using your own dialect with unhappy tone, did you someone can get you wrong idea maybe you’re talk bad about him that’s why Mr. James get so angry.
They never said can’t change at all but they need to double check the item to make sure the real problem before their make report to their superior.
But seems you as customer can’t wait, nothing is easy in this life when you try to get something as soon as possible without go through the procedures.
Un- patient customer let me highlight to you the other case Mr. James encounter with other un-patient customer, it was similar case as you the customer return and complain to Mr. James that his laptop was faulty, customer bought the laptop after more then 3 months and insist the responsible action to exchange 1 to 1 . Mr. james was explain to customer not possible to do 1 to 1 exchange after you use it for few months computer has a problem and you insist to do exchange. Mr. james trying to help to send to customer service on behalf of the customer. But customer insist 1 to 1 exchange till customer get angry and call the police and police justify the matter as customer have no choice to wait a bit longer, if the customer using sales person service to send on be half of the customer got to wait a at least few days as the office tell the customer

Hi Customers please be patient when the sales person doing the checking for your problem because I’m pretty sure they will do the exchange for your faulty laptop.
I don’t think there’s a problem if we can wait patiently…

Newstead Technologies Poor Customer Service

I agree with you. I also regretted for not seeing this website earlier. If I have read this, I will never go there to buy my laptop. A week ago, I went to Newstead @ 313 Somerset #04-30/31 and bought a laptop. I am only asking how much is the price, and then a guy named E told me. I only mentioned to my friend that the price is same as what we check, then this guy E answer back, saying it is standard price everywhere, not as if they are the one who quoted the price and then of course they will be NO DISCOUNT! Hey, hello little boy~~! We are asking the price and we are not asking for discount...ok?

So I bought the laptop, pay everything in cash, then I checked the box and asked E, where is the external dvd player. Then only he told me, anti-virus cd, external hard disk, laptop bag and etc have to go to a bulding opposite Funan IT Mall to claim. He said want to give us the name and draw us a map and at the end also never do so. We kinda left in a hurry as we are rushing so that's find, we can use GPS to find that place. So after a week, we went to Adelphi, Coleman ST to claim all my things. Well, another thing has comes up. The girl at the redemption counter was kinda pissed off with most of the dealer as she told me, they only let the guest claim dvd player but NOT laptop bag...again ask me to go back to my dealer.

Ok, since I am heading down to Orchard, so I just drop by at Somerset to ask E what's going on. So, E answer me that NO, WE NEVER GIVE OUT ANY LAPTOP BAGS HERE! Ok, so I am the customer, you are the staff, so give me a solution now, the time I pay money, why you never told me I can PAY HALF since the item I collect is only HALF? So it's ok, I never lose my temper to anyone of them, but from they face they are more annoyed than me. Then ask me to come back tomorrow, I say NO! I need to work, then he say ok, come back before 11pm, our shop close at 11pm...1st time I visit, he also say 11pm, 2nd time I visit he still say 11pm...and not only E say so, the rest of the staff say the same thing too, so ok, I assume that's the operation time. I left my number for them to call me once they got the bag and I need to do some shopping around.

At 9pm, I noticed that there was a miss call from a strange number but cause I forgot to switch on my volume, so I have no idea who is the caller. But I assume if Newstead is the one who called, they will have called me back again. So I waited, I went dinner and before 10.30pm I reached the shop and well, the shop was closed. Actually the shop was closed much earlier before 9.30pm. I have no idea why they need to lie to their customer. All you need is just give me a laptop bag, you can just grab one and give it to me and case close. So I have no idea why they don't think with their brain but think with their ###!

I just think that, Newstead staffs does not have proper customer service training, attitude problem and not a very honest dealer as what I expect they are...well, to those who read about all this complaints, please bare in mind, if you wanna buy anything from Newstead, please think twice. AFter they received your money, they don't care anymore...

I wouldn't feel angry or what, but I feel pity to their company. Hire this kind of staffs will make their business worst.

Newstead Technologies Con Attempt at Comex 2009

I was just looking around for notebooks and specs. I have asked around Dell about their Alienware, pricey, but that's what I want, a bleeding edge high end notebook that'll usable in couple of years in future. Set up my mind buying an alienware next month.

Then I scout around at MSI booth I spotted MSI GT 628 gaming notebook. I ask the salesperson everything, then we went into the pricing. Sales A is young. Prolly in college or something. Sales B is kind of at the age of 30 something. Sales C is the head who stand by at the cashier.

We went talking a little bit, what do I get for bonus, pricing, warranties, all those usual stuffs. Most of the time sales A called sales B for most of my questions. The GT628 already using the 1xx nvidia chipset, which I don't understand. I have better understanding of the 7xxx, 8xxx, 9xxx series. Other than the graphic chipset, the notebook have a very impressive specifications. Core2quad processor and 4GB DDR3 RAM

So I ask the sales B, what's the equal graphic card that the GT628 have (nVidia 160 M). "It's equal to GeForce 9800 M". Good, the guy knows about technical stuff. They displayed a game demo on the notebook and all those stuffs. It went really smooth, no lag or whatsoever. Me like. Then we started to bargain the price. The brochure said $2899. I ask for lower price. The sales B said he'll give me 10% discount.

Later on I take a look at the notebook, checking the dxdiag, checking on my handphone calculator how much is the final price and I try to bargain again. I recheck with sales B

"you'll give me 10% discout right?"
"No, I'll give you 5%"
"But you just said 10%"
"Go ask all the other sales, I told you 5%"

Okay fine, prolly I misheard him.

I don't like Vista, so I ask him can I get a downgrade from Vista to XP.
"Yes sure, but the license will cost $250"
"250? Nevermind, I still got some spare licenses, but in case I will downgrade the OS from you, what will happen with the vista that comes with it"
"You'll still have it"

Good enough. These guy sounds legit.

So I ask the guy,
"are you a direct reseller/distributor of MSI? I mean like those dell guys there, they aren't a store themselves, but they're a direct Dell representatives"
"Yes we are authorized reseller"
"So how do you give your store warranties?"
"What's that?"
"Warranties that you give me for purchasing from your store"
"You just go to the MSI service center"

Okayla... prolly most of the electronic shops here in singapore don't give store warranties. It's better for them being honest like this rather than like what I've experienced at Ji* X*n D*gital Simlim. He gave me 1 month of store warranty but less than hour after the purchase "it's none of my business anymore." LOL.

So I ask them about name card. This is where things started to get weird. None of them have any namecard. When I do ask him about namecard9 (see attachment), the sales B only brought a stamp, and stamp it to my brochure.

Weird huh? No storenames, not much informations and all those stuffs. "For enquiries". What's that? LOL.

And their booths? I don't see any store name there on their booth, only the brands. Asus, MSI, etc.

I walk around and think for awhile. What the hell, I want this notebook anyway. I've learned my lesson from simlim so I just thought I have to be careful with these guy. So I came back to their booth and ask Sales A, rechecking everything, making sure they're consistent with what they're saying, then he throw me to Sales B which then lead me to Sales C.

I re-bargain the price again with sales C, then we had a deal. I said I'll pay cash. We had some arguments then we had a deal. I said to him

"I'll be back"
"What do you mean by that"
"I have to get some money at the ATM"
"Do you have any cards?"
"I said I'll pay cash."

I show him my card and said

"Can you use this card with those machines?"

he went confused with the card. It's ATM card, indonesian bank.

"is it visa or something"
"That's why, I'll pay cash. I'll be back"

Then I went dispensing my money. I went back upstairs. Sales C looks very happy seeing me return.

"So let me get this straight. The price we had in deal is the net price, no GST, or DST tax or all those other craps like that is it?"
"Yes"

I'm interested.

Sales B pushing me the invoice and told me to fill my name, my address and my phone number.

I said to sales C
"I want you to understand, I'm not signing anything before I can check the goods. What are the bonuses?"
"A Bag, a mouse and a free 4 GB ram upgrade"
"Now can I see them?"
"Sure"
"You have to understand, I got coned once at simlim"
"But we're not from simlim"
"Yes I know, but $2000 is not something I can earn within days."

He went to his storage and took out a unit. He took everything out and I check most of the things. It's all there. Good. Then he asked me

"Do you want to take the whole box with you or carry it with the bag?"
"I want everything inside the box just the way it is"

The next thing I know, he cut some parts of the box. I get suspicious of this.

"What are you cutting there?"
"It's the serial number I have to send it to the central office"
"Let me see."

I pull out the notebook and make sure both have the same serial number. It has the same number. Good, so far.

Then I asked for the battery and check whether everything is just as what we deal.

He said

"Sir you have to pay first if you want to open the seal"
"I have to check it first then I pay."

He allow me to check it. Otherwise I'll just leave them at this stage.

I saw something wrong with the stickers. The notebook that's on display is T628. The one I check at that moment is T627. I first spotted this from the Nvidia stickers. It said Geforce 9800 M. Not GTS 160 M.

I ask him why is this isn't the same as what was displayed and demonstrated to me?
"It's the same thing" sales B said
"The chipset isn't exactly the same thing"
"It's only different numbering but the chip is still the same"
"If that so, then why nVidia bother releasing two different chipset?"

Sales B went quiet with it.

Then I spotted another thing. It said 4GB ram... but it said DDR2. I check with sales C he said "don't worry it's only the stickers, inside it already use DDR3, you can check it with blablabla"

I started to get annoyed by these idiots.

Then the last thing I spot is the different type of notebook.
Me : "This is not even the same notebook on display. I don't want this, I want what you have in display, that's what we deal for. Do you have any ready stock of that one on the display?"
Sales C : "Yes sir. But you need to wait for a moment I'll go fetch it for you from our storage"
Me : "Fine. But do you have any READY stock RIGHT NOW?"
Sales C : "Yes. But you have to know, with $**** price, I can not give you that one. If you can get 628 by that price I'll buy from you"
Me : "That's not the deal"
Sales C : "Fine then I won't sell it to you"

So I just went and leaving the goddam booth without saying anything. On my way home I got a flash, I have left my name, my home address and my phone. So I went back there and told him to destroy the invoice. He refuse to do it. But instead he ask whether it is allowed for him to make the writings unreadable. Good enough for me. Altho he went very grumpy and pissed about it. Eff him. He's the one who tried to con me.

"You have to understand. I have a weaker position and you do trying broke the deal first"

Then sales B said

"What do we have to understand sir?"
"I'm a foreigner. What do you expect? And the address aswell please?"

Sales B throws a sinister laugh. I don't care.

After I check the invoice I said "thank you" and went.

Quite surprising. At this kind of high class, big event. This kind of incident still happen. I feel like shopping at a lowclass fish market. Thanks to the experience at Simlim, I don't get coned by these ###s.

The GT 627 and GT628 sport a DIFFERENT spec. 627 is a lower class than 628.

Having twice of this kind of experience makes me think, there's no use being polite and friendly with them anymore (electronic store sales). I have to be very strict and explicit with them.

Looks like newstead had made a business out of conning people, especially foreigners.
I purchased a dell from them less than two months back, and from day 1, i experienced problems with it.
The machine would conk off every 45-50 min of simple use - i used it for video chat, surfing, and maybe played a few videos.
So i took it back to the shop at funan, and these people could not have shown a less caring attitude!
I was told too bad - it was working when we sold it - u need to call dell and fix it!
I came back to my country, called dell - and they did all they could, but were not able to fix the problem.
The dell engineer finally figured out, that newstead had put in an old 2GB DDRAM as a "free upgrade", which was heating up, and causing the machine to shut down!
I am now even more convinced that newstead is probably one of the lousiest retail outlet - with least focus on quality, and max on volumes!

OMG.. I scammed like the rest of u.. I regretted not seeing this website earlier..
Same as "Poor Fool", i was scammed to write my details on the paper to psychologically seal the deal. Totally regret big time!

Poor Fool Scammed by PC People

I was scammed my newstead technologies in the current 2010 June 10-13 PC fair. Similar as above, I think they ask you to write your address and name and phonenumber to psychologically nudge to complete the sale. Too bad I didn't walk away. What a cheap company.

I agree with you, I was thinking since it is PC Show Fair, such things that happen in Sim Lim won't happen here as well. But I was wrong, after purchasing my laptop then I realised it was from Newstead, but luckily I wasn't con by anyone of them. Instead, they tried pushy sales techniques to get me to buy from them, saying they only left with a few sets and you have to quickly make your purchase. They successfully got me to put a $50 deposit because I really thought this was the laptop that I wanted. The following day I went back to make full payment, I notice the same laptop that was on display and with the price slash even further. So I ask if I could pay that amount, but was given some crap reasons that the lowered price do not include the 3 years warranty. Fine, so I went ahead and make my payment and making sure the next time I purchase any desktop/laptop it has to be some worthy distributor and not Newstead.
