I spoke with a very pleasant operator (read that very good salesman; coached) that informed me my order was out of stock even though the web page still registered it as available. In response to my comment that it was no problem, he offered to upgrade the order for the same price and that since he knew my camera, there would be no problem. So I reluctantly agreed. The new invoice did not indicate any brand names which scared me.

When item numbers were searched, I found the products Bower and Digital Optics to be either unknown or considered cheap substitutes. I called the same number and tried to cancel the order as their email said that was the only way to do it, only to be told that it had to be done by email.

I complained by email about the inconsistency in their instructions and again that I wanted to cancel the order. I was told "It seems there is only one inconsistency here." Meaning my changing my mind once I found out the cheap products being substituted I assume, so I'll include disregard for customer satisfaction to my assessment of the company.

As a last resort, I asked for information on returns

The fact that the order was placed is not in debate. That does not change my desire to cancel the order. The email you sent me says I can not cancel an order by email; that is a fact, and yes, these emails will be kept for my records as well. My attempt to cancel by phone, which was the only option given to me, was met with an employee telling me that an order can only be canceled by email. That is an inconsistency, one that a company concerned with keeping satisfied customers returning, would want to know about and correct. Also, such a company would understand that just because a customer is not happy with one order, they can become their best word of mouth advertising if the situation is handled correctly.

So, going back to the issue, I do not want the items being shipped. Once the order has been shipped, how does the customer proceed if the order is no longer wanted?


I got only a link to the page that states among other things.
“…The following products are not acceptable for credit, refund, or exchange and must be repaired or handled by the manufacturer or a manufacturers' authorized service centers: Blister-packed items, tripods, opened media, including tapes, cd's or dvd's, lights, flashes, extended warranties, lenses, filters…”

So they knew there are no returns on lenses and there would be no resolution.

I have all the emails and copies if anyone would like to see them.

Bottom line is they would rather lose customers than cancel a $100 order. Had it been handled properly, I would have ordered again...no more. I'm still looking for a refund or the right items!

If anyone calls you...CANCEL the order.

    I had a very similar experience with this company - just today. I found a lens for my Sony camera on the Sony website for $199.99. After googling the lens, I found a few other websites that were selling it at a lower price (most around $138-$150). New World Video had my lens advertised for $103, so I made the purchase. Today I received this email:

    Dear: Amy S.
    Thank you for placing your order with New World Video Direct (NWV Direct.com).

    My name is Mark Stephens. I have attempted to contact you at the number you provided,

    due to an issue with your order.

    At your earliest convenience, please call me toll free at: 1.888.910.3888. My extension is 3302

    Monday-Thursday: 10:00am-6:30pm est.

    Friday: 10:00am-4:30pm est.


    I called Mr. Stephens and he acted like he was reading a script, was new at his "job" and didn't know what to say to me. According to him, my lens was unfortunately out of stock, AND it just happened to have complaints of distortion and some other issue. He "just happened" to have a comparable lens (Olympia) for $199. When I said no, he said he could offer it to me for $169! I asked him when it would be back in stock and he didn't say anything. I told him I can wait because I don't need it until my trip in September (two months from now!) and he said it would not be in stock for 6 to 8 weeks. My first thought was this is some sort of scam. Now that I read this comment, I know my thought is accurate. DO NOT order from this company. I'm glad I paid via PayPal, because I certainly don't want them to know my credit card information.
    Luckily when I insisted on canceling the order, he did not give me any problems.

    DO NOT BUY from NEW WORLD VIDEO DIRECT!!!

    Panasonic LT-55
    Panasonic LW-55
    Panasonic LW-3A

    After bait and switch...they started offering at $600 and finally after I wouldn't give the Manager got on the phone and offered at the same price as Panasonic items...to the tune of $324

    Received:
    HILA 2.2X Telephoto Lens
    Crystal Vision Wide Lens (HD was the gimmick these are High Definition and better than Panasonic...NOT!!!)
    Bowen Adapter

    Adapter does not even work and they will not replace it - I even insured they would take the complete lot as returns and after the adapter wouldn't fit I called and they said No Returns on anything with Lens?

    A very poor business that has to resolve to rip people off to stay in business...they insinuated I was lying about the adapter not fitting! They said they don't have the Panasonic in stock and would have to refund my Paypal which I should have DONE! They also confirmed verbally that I could return with 21 day policy...LIARS!!! after I called to get an RMA # they then dropped the bomb on me...NO RETURNS on LENS!!!

    Picture attached to show the adpater will screw on approximately one thread and then stops and the guy at NWV doesn't even believe me! I only own about 10 different cameras what a Liar this guy is...

    DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

    New WOLRD VIDEO DIRECT SCAM!!!

    The adapter they sold won't even make up to the camera...andthey refuse to believe it or replace it...$334 down the drain with them...

    I've had very similar experience with New WOLRD VIDEO DIRECT, That is, I ordered Panasonic DMW-LT55 55mm 1.7x Telephoto Conversion Lens for Panasonic DMC-FZ18 Digital Camera online for $139.00 .
    In a few minutes I received a phone call saying "it's out stock, but updated one, 2.2x instead of 1.7x is in stock for the same price with free adapter" So, I accepted that offer. They shipped, however, not Panasonic but Hila Optics brand. This one feels inferior product with sluggish fitting with the accompanied adapter. Then, I found on the web very similar one in Amazon.com, much cheaper $99 with free adapter and lens cleaner kit, and its seller is New WOLRD VIDEO DIRECT also. What customer service said was Hila optics is Japanese made, and the one of amazon.com Taiwan made - my web search showed Hila Optics International Inc. is a Taiwan company. In any case, this company should be investigated for their business practices.

    My Christmas present this year (2010) was two lenses for my Sony DSC-H20. One being a 0.5 wide angle lens, and the other a 2.2x telephoto. Both of these lenses needed to be used with a Sony VAD-HA adapter ring, an $18 item, currently backordered. With confidence from the sales woman the purchase was made. Within a week after the arrival of the lenses, calls to NWV regarding the backordered ring adapter, were met by curteous customer reps, that assured us that the ring adapter was still backordered and would be available. Additionally, Sony was improving the ring adapter from a plastic to a metal version, probably for nearly the same cost. Between that time and the time of my next call (within the 21 days of return policy), I had looked to Sony to obtain this item, where I learned that the ring adapter was not in backorder status, but was in DISCONTINUED status. A call was made to NWV and was again assured the adapter would arrive. "Well I have 2 new lenses and no way to attach them to my camera" I remarked to the supervisor I had on the line and was asked to told not to worry that there would not be a problem retuning the lenses, since the purchase was useless without the adapter, the supervisor was on vacation the next week and check back with them after that.

    The 4th call - Still backordered. (meanwhile, this ring adapter is not to be found anywhere! Ebay, B&H, Amazon, Adorama, Sony... etc.

    Today I was attempting to return these items, and Steve the supervisor was very sorry that that could not be done as the 21 days was long gone and perhaps I would be interested in exchanging them for something else from their inventory. "Anything else for my camera is useless with out that ring adapter", Steve replied "We have other items in our inventory like - printers. So I told Steve that I needed to write to the company and let them know how dismayed I am with their company for the $260. purchases, and was met with: "Well I'm just going to close this account out and you will not be able to return these lenses for any reason. I told him this was not my purchase it was my girlfriends, to which he said under no circumstances will those lenses be accepted for return/store credit or any reason.

    I WISH I HAD READ THESE REVIEWS SOONER. This is a sad situation, a bleak ending, and a very nasty way to do business.

    Please beware! New World Video Direct has created a new sales page disguised as a different company called CAMERA CHUMS.

    The email format is VERY similar to what I received the day after I orderred a TCON 17 lens.

    I spoke to the same coached sales person who sounded like a nice old lady who was VERY 'helpful'. She stated that the TCON was out of stock but they had one for the same price and it was just the newer version of that lens they had released to replace it.

    Since i needed the lens rushed for a trip i was planning to take I figured as long as it's the same brand it would work... not so much.

    The order receipt stated 'Hila optics 2.2 High Definition Telephoto Lens' when i called back they told me the order had already shipped. I went so far as to tell them I read about this scam in the meantime. The lady said 'we are in no way affiliated with that company and brought attention to the fact that New World Video was trying to sell the Hila Lens for $200 dollars. I wasn't buying it and asked about the return which she said was 21 days so i had nothing to worry about... ugh.

    So at this point I am awaiting paperwork from my bank to contest the charges. I will be getting a new card since I don't want them to have my information.

    I would suggest all who experience this same scam to call their bank and cancel either block the payment or contest the charges since the 21 day return policy is a false promise.
