new horizon even post on craiglist to capture prospective students and sell their programs ranges from 3 week to 8 week, of which course load should at least take a semester to study and lab experience.
getting certified of several skills through their programs in 3 week sounded too good to be true.
I strongly advise those who wanted to be certified to do some research about any training school before
signing the contract and be taken in.

I would not recommend New Horizons, at least the South Florida locations. Especially if you are a Veteran. I was contacted by a VA Rep/Recruiter in 2013 to attend an 12 week course that prepares you for multiple Certifications. I was told by the VA Rep to switch from using the rest of my GI bill to the post 9/11 G.I. Bill because it was better and that New Horizons was billed like a normal college so I would get my monthly stipend and all that jazz. I was in a class entirely made up of Vets (30 or so). 90% had little to none experience in computer networking. It started out great for the first month. The instructor was great and not to fast paced. Mid way through the course class mates started complaining that they had run out of funds. Our Va rep came in and explained that the way the school was being billed had changed mid way through the course so instead of being billed like a college per semester we were billed per certification so most of the vets like myself had previously used some of our G.I. Bill for college in the past and only had a year or so worth of benefits left extinguished all of our benefits within the first month and half getting billed bi-weekly, and/or weekly. This was not how it was explained when signing up for this. We asked for our money back with no luck and New Horizons told us we were welcome to finish out the remainder of the courses for free; however, by then majority of the vets were so frustrated that they dropped out and stopped coming. The remainder of the course I believe there were only 4 of us left and we pretty much gave up on New Horizons so we would along with the Instructor just get together and go eat dinner somewhere. No one was in the mood to try and finish the course after everything we went through. One vet got a lawyer and tried to get reimbursed and get his VA benefits back. I'm not sure whatever happened with it. My advice for Veterans is to go to a 4 year college. Be very careful what places advertise and the advice you get. The VA rep gave me terrible advice and lied and I should have taken a step back and talked to the VA because he sold a great tale and I got sucked in. It sounded great and while in the military we used New Horizons for server courses paid for by the Marine Corp which made it all the more believable. STAY AWAY FROM NEW HORIZONS.

I am currently in the Web Design Program/Microsoft Back End with the WIOA unemployment benefit. They teach a bunch of Adobe Programs, if you do not already know the Adobe programs, you most likely will not learn them. The "mentored sessions" mean you are in a big empty lab room with on IT person who may or may not know the program you are studying. The pre recorded classes are from 2013, CS5 so they are useless. That is two program version behind.
The live classes are taught by good competent staff, however, can someone learn enough in four, six hour days to get a job. NO. Can they learn enough to pass the Adobe Certification Exams? NO You can learn more on YouTube for free.

Microsoft backend? All these classes (during the intro announce that you need two years programming experience and to know several basic computer programming languages) before taking them. TOO LATE, you already paid for them, so you sit for 40 hours listening to a competent teacher speaking in a language/vocabulary that is beyond the grasp of a lay person who was sold the course of study. The programs needed to understand these classes, however are not part of your course of study. They might as well be teaching in Chinese for all the layperson can understand.

Sadly, WIOA will not approve solid, fondational learning that is cheaply taught at community schools. They only approve FAST TRACK for profit programs. I know, I tried to go to the community college but that is not allowed, so they pay $7, 000 for a 7 month program that the student is immediately lost in, and is a drowning rat from the get go. Very stupid and frustrating. The same education would take twice as long in the community college because it would actually teach the programs in a learnable way. Starting at the beginning and building on that.

I wanted to have a career change and heard about New Horizons from an associate at work. I decided to sign up for the program even though I didn't have any prior IT experience at all, I figured that I would learn everything I needed to know and atleast get an entry level job for my troubles. Big mistake on my part. The actual "training" of my program was just sitting in front of a computer listening to someone read me stuff. Absolutely zero hands on teaching. Our instructor wasn't even in the same state. I had bad feeling about the program shortly after that and realized I probably made a big mistake. Being an idiot though, I decided to stick through with it and follow it through. I could have gotten my refund but I didn't. Really wish I did now. It was a waste of time and money, and they are con artists. They say that they will help you find work, but not necessarly IT work. The career coach that was assigned to me gave me worthless advice when I was getting rejected by all these people she recommened me. It was seriously making me angry. I don't need help making a resume. I don't need you to tell me "tricks" and "tips" on acing an interview. Don't promise me entry level IT work, and then tell me to settle for someplace in retail. Avoid New Horizons at all costs. Do NOT let their salesman convince you that its worth it. Its not. And don't pay for their training out of your pocket. Dishonest company full of conmen.

You can find you tube videos that are more helpful than any of their worthless videos that they make you watch for their mentored learning. It's not even a well respected place for IT training. Most wouldn't go here even if their company paid for it.

I was a victim of these fraudsters' lies and am now in debt over $26,000. They told me I could get a high paying job if I just got IT certifications. I have 2 certs., have them on my resume, have my resume posted on jobs websites and have applied for various IT jobs and have gotten nowhere...except in more debt than I can possibly pay back. I feel they owe me my money back since the over-promised and under-delivered. Do I have any legal recourse against these people?

This is fraud. I left my job for this and now im going to be homeless in a couple of days. I told Mr.Peterson about my situation before I sign the agreement contract. He assured me that i would be taken care of. 8 weeks later and I wasn't given any job offers and the material wasn't understandable. I didnt have any prior IT experience to begin with and i inform Mr.Peterson that. I feel like ive been taken advantage of and i was already in a ###ed up situation. Thanks for nothing New Horizons of Orlando.

Yes, the trupro, looks like a tool for New Horizons. Anyhow, I was extremely disappointed with this place. For the most part, it is just another left over IT/certification mill. You are must better off teaching this to yourself or go elsewhere for certifications. The instructors did not really seem to know much. Their career services is nothing more than sending you emails for mainly contract jobs. I did learn a lot while I was there although it was through no help of them. I would not recommend this school for IT training.

New Horizons Abuja Nigeria is totally unprofessional. Agter taking your hard earned money they start onventing excuses everyday. I paid for my Exam over 2 weeks ago and then they started coming up with ridiculous excuses why I cant write the Exam which I wasnt informed of before they took my money. Am totally disappointed in their services because I had a very high expectations. It always about the money for them.

Interesting comments. However, given the lack of correct grammar and ignorance of the conventions of the English language one could infer that a) Hew Horizons preys upon desperate people of limited means who barely speak or understand English, or b) you all are just [censored]es who feel entitled to things. The truth is probably somewhere in between. I recently attended a New Horizons PMP certification preparation course in Florida.

First, the class. The instructor was extremely knowledgeable and engaging and he had many years of project management experience. We covered material from the book, additional materials from PMI and test taking strategy and materials. Furthermore, this class meets the PMI formal education REQUIREMENTS. That's right, PMI requires you to attend 35-40 hours of formal education prior to taking the certification exam. New Horizon charges $3500 for this class, with $500 being held aside to pay the exam fee. Fact), the conditions to meet for this payment, a 90% on the practice exam, three times, are very stringent. Opinoin) it is possible that it is designed to keep that money and require a student to pay out of pocket for the exam. However, where is the proof?

The recruiting: They contacted me based upon a meeting at a Veterans Job Fair. The do recruit veterans seeking to exploit the Post 9-11 GI bill eligibility, Fact) They are approved as a ceftificaiton generating program by the VA, therefore eligibile to recieve GI Bill funds, not every prgram can say that. Opinion) The are scamming vets out of money by exploiting the GI Bill and marketing unemployable certifications. OK maybe, but where is the proof?

Certificaitons: I have had multiple people in the industry, outside of New Horizons, that cerfitifcations are important to get in front of hiring managers. Many tech managers have told me the look at 1) Experience, 2) Certifications, 3) Degrees. Fact) Employers want experience first, but certificaitons in the tech field will get you looked at and may enable to you start low and gain the experience. Degrees are a lag, as they can be obtained later, after one gains experience, to enable promotion to management. Opinion) Employers don't care about certificaitons. Maybe, maybe not. It depends upon what they want.

Recruitment part B, the Job Placement: This is perhaps the dishonest part of the game. Most smart job seekers know that there are not guarantees in the job hunt. Furthermore, smart recruiters and plancement firms know that there is now way to guarantee a pipeline into a job. However, New Horizons does make a strong claim, with testimonials, that their certifications lead to jobs. Fact) There are not gurantess with job hunting and certificaitosn alone cannot guarantee what New Horizons offers. Opinion) New Horizons pushs that job placement piece hard as a means to recruit.

Bottom line, can they get you industsry cerfitications, ? YES. Can they, or anyone, guarantee you employment? NO! However, do we believe they can? SURE Do they exploit our hope and need? MAYBE.

At any rate, my experiences are different, but I was considering going back for additional certs. Maybe not now. Thanks for your imput.

Everyone I must say, New Horizons is not a scam. I just completed there 6 month program using my Post 911 GI Bill. I too was skeptical. I apologize for everyones bad experiences, however, I am here to say that the reason most people don't like the school is because they are lazy. Is the program fast paced and almost too good to be true? . . . . yes. Should it take longer than 6 months for a portion of the certification they offer?. . . yes. Is it a lot of money to attend the school?. . . yes.
What Im getting at is, if you take the time and devote all your free time during your 6 months, then you can absolutely get all the certifications promised.

The reason most people don't get all their certs is because they don't buckle down and study for the tests, or don't take the program seriously. I DO NOT WORK FOR NEW HORIZONS! I had to set the record straight. The job placement is not the best, but like all the other posts said, once you get your certs you can land those 50 to 70K/year jobs.

Wow I'm glad I saw this. I just got an email from these people asking me to take some "training" with them. They said they got my information from somewhere and all I had to do was contact them to get started and take my info into my local "job center" and see if WIA funds were available to pay for the courses. It didn't even occur to me until now that these people are idiots because I'm too old for WIA, that's for teenagers until they are like in their 20's because there's a program here for them, you see signs everywhere for it. SO glad I googeld them before I agreed to anything, but seriously this woman who was emailing me was trying to get me to drive to the middle of a shady area where their center is located mon-thurs from 5-11pm for training. NO thanks I'm not doing that, I don't care if it's FREE and you PAY ME I'm not going to be in that area at night lol. Not to mention it's at least an hour drive from my house one way. Thanks again google, you saved the day. :)

I currently live in FL and attend a state university for Human Resources, I had been applying for administrative jobs, I was contacted by these people with a location in Tampa, I really thought it was an interview, I met with the guy the next day, he made me feel comfortable but I could tell from the start there was no position to be offered, he told me HR was a dying field (completely incorrect by the way) and that IT is where the money is, that certifications are more important than degrees in the IT field and that they could get me certified within 6 months and placed in a job making at least 55k, he brought out the forma, but at that time I decided it was time to go, left, as soon as I left the office I began to look up reviews on new horizons and came across all of these horror stories... Glad I left, I have money to pay for this thing, I'm a Marine with GI Bill benefits but definitely not worth to be spent there...

I have never heard about new horizons until WIA offered me the opportunity for a job advancement or certifications, you know someone more to add to my resume and make me look good. When I first interview with the school in Anaheim, the sales rep was so nice she would return my calls, she even got her boss to review my resume and then they both promised that they would also help me with my resume. After I was enrolled, the sales rep never return my calls never answer my emails and to this date no one has done anything with my resume. I do agree my all complains, to them you're just a number and taking the advantage of other peoples miseries. I also had some good instructors.

I too was taken by them, fortunately it was only $4000 for their "web design" program. They programs were outdated and you had to beg to get an instructor to come from another location. The online courses were a joke, i learned so much more on my own. They promised job placement starting at 50k-70k, hey right. They just sent me emails with job openings from indeed.com. Everyone in the class felt the same way. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND TIME!

This school should be closed down. I have to pay back $15, 000 in a student loan for medical billing. At the time I knew my current job was going to close it doors and I went into panic mode. They told me I would be perfect for the billing because I have a accounting background. So I signed up. What a joke, the instructors literally read to you from the text. After I got the first of the certifications I started applying for jobs, no luck, never got a call back. All their placement department did was take the same ads off of CareerBuidler and other job websites and email them to you. I could have done that.

Finally I abandoned the whole idea and stayed in construction accounting. So to this day I send in my monthly payment but it makes me sick. I am going to try to file a loan discharge based the new student loan forgiveness rules. It is a long shot but it makes me fee better!

Thank you for your comments.

They preyed on me recently and almost had me hooked, but because I had already been screwed over by a previous college. I made sure to find reviews of this one.

Based on what I see everyone saying, I will not go through with New Horizons. I can get the certifications myself. The only reason I would have even went with them is their promise that I could easily get placed into a $70k/yr job. I was only going to try them for the job placement promise they made, but I can clearly see that would be a big mistake.

Thank you everyone, you saved me from making a mistake, as I warn everyone not to go to Virginia College (not the state of Virginia).

They not only rip off students, they also rip off their employees. Yes I worked there for a little while, we were forced to oversell, overcharge and shell out excuses when classes were cancelled, and forget about refunds.. promise them the moon and deliver as little as possible. As for the government funded classes, once the money was in hand it didn't matter if the classes ran or not, of course on paper everyone completed their courses. If sales people didn't meet their quota they were fired, if sales people made a really big sale they were fired right before big commissions were to be paid, employees received free course libraries from corporate but the owner made them sign a load agreement, if you left before the period outlined they wanted you to pay for something that was free. Well I could go on and on but the bottom line is, I couldn't wait to get out of there, I’m not sure if all franchises operate the same way but judging from the comments... it sure sounds like it, the government really needs to audit these people... Some advice from a former employee...STAY AWAY! Of course this is just my experience... and that of quite a few former and current employees.

This company is bilking money from the government (our taxes) through unemployment education funds. They will sell their classes to anyone regardless of whether or not they have the background to take these classes. They actually sold their SQL classes to a MUSICIAN telling him he would do well with these classes. This man was so disillusioned and depressed due to this scam of a company. Do not use this company for educational purposes through unemployment funds.

New Horizon is a scam their main goal is to get as much money out of you as possible. Remember you are deal with sales people there not job placers. I feel bad for all the out of work people the have ripped of and go on the hook for thousands. Try CBT nuggets very good training videos.

This people are the biggest ripoff ever...

I will Explain;

1. You send them your resume because you saw a position posted by them for a job, and so they call you asking you to come in for an interview to discuss your skills and placement. Or another way they use to get you in is they search careerbuilder.com, monster.com, indeed.com, and other services where you have posted your resume and so they tell u to come in for an Interview . Remember that this people are super convincing and often make you think that you are wrong and that they are there to hire you.

2. You drive to New Horizon and when you get there and the interview starts very professional and everything but then they start offering you certifications in order to be eligible for a job. They start giving you prices of each certification and from there it is just lie after lie after lie. They tell you that once you take the certifications they will place you in a good job and that they are the top who knows what in the U.S and blah blah blah..

3. The point is that they get you there making you think you will have a job interview when they will really sell you certifications. This is from what they make a living. each certification can range from $150.00$ and up and they always want to start you with like 3 certifications.

4. Be careful this guys are SUPER CONVINCING AND WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. I left their offices and decided to decline on their Offer and they call me for weeks insisting to go and get certified so then they could find me a job.

YOU TELL ME WHEN DOES AN INTERVIEWER CALLS YOU BEGGING TO COME IN? NEVER 5. AGAIN BE CAREFUL SUPER CONVINCING INDIVIDUALS WHO WILL PERSUADE YOU INTO THEIR TRICKS.

Wow! This is something... I am in school with New Horizons now, Ive received 2 certs already and I have a mock interview next week. Most of the personnel there is unprofessional and disrespectful. I have had some good instructors thought but other than that I would NEVER recommend anyone to come here. They are so rude and the dont even speak to you once you've gotten enrolled. Oh well Ive got a graduation date on 9/30/11. Wish me luck! I wish I could have seen this review before I agreed to this. And yes they do lie about the amount of money you can make...

I too, was contacted by the New Horizon after applying for those entry level IT jobs I was also told that they had a 98% placement and that i should take 2 certifications. I don't need anyone reading to me the book. I can do that myself. It surely doesn't sound like their placement is good at all. I have an appointment to the those people at New Horizon in 2 weeks i am canceling after reading this site. They sound horrible.

I too was conned into their "bait and switch" pitch about placing me with a Fortune 500 company. I was out $20, 000 however I was able to land a job. I did it on my own and the certifications they offer are more easily attained by buying the books and studying for them. It was a waste of money and time. I admit I was ignorant of the IT world and how to break into it. I filed bankruptcy and I believe the loan wasn't federally insured as it appears to have been discharged. That makes me extremely happy.

I have been stuck with an outstanding loan that has $8, 000 left on it for classes that I never was able to receive. New Horizons was bought out by another company and they will not honor the contract. I have contacted the Assistant D.A., attorneys, elected officials and no one can help me. Why can't we institute a class action law suit against this company? There must be many more out there with the same situation as mine.

I would have to agree with pretty much everything stated above. I too applied for a job on careerbuilder.com that led to New Horizons in Indiana calling me and setting up an interview, which like everyone else led to a sales pitch. Since it was early in my career, I trusted what I was told and that having these certifications would help me and that I needed to have all these and that since I had some experience I should be able to complete them all in no time, while working full-time...NO POSSIBLE. The good staff has all quit, the night class offerings are getting farther and fewer between, all they do is read you the book and expect you to magically pass a test. I was over sold and under delivered and I'm the one out $10, 000. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

I worked at New Horizons right after I had gotten out of the Navy. I didn't work there long, probably about a month or so. I left because of morals. They taught me to lie to people and pressure people. I knew it was a dishonest company when during their training session, they told us that they do sell computer based training disks. I asked how much the price is, they told me "the price is whatever amount of money you can get for them". There was no fixed price at all! The people working there would brag about how much they were able to scam large corporations for their training. All they cared about was the money. In all fairness, this was back in 1997, and it's possible things may have changed since then.

I am so shocked and devastated regarding my experience with New Horizons KC that i may be better off not sending this, however, i don't know why i should not send. Like they are going to do anything for me that was promised... I have much to say but too stunned. ... Fraud is one thing, but customer abuse is another. As i have been so enthusiastic for the training, i have done my best to overlook their questionable teaching methods, lack of professionalism, lack of knowledge, and even their abusive approach. Over the past year, i have invested a lot of time and money making the most of what they 'sold' me. I cannot fault the sales-guy, nor a couple of those that were able to impart knowledge. However, i would never recommend this place... I have been in the business many years, have several certifications and i have even taught certification courses.. . so, hey some of us want to learn, no matter what.. even at the expense of abuse? This is just wrong... Sorry for my outburst but i guess it happened for the last time for me this evening... New Horizons could obviously make more profit if they open up a subsidiary.. non-for-profit company.. to counsel those of us who have been so abused, devastated, bewildered.. wt? I am sad... the dirty rats... No photo at this time.. and perhaps my personal email address if this will allow.. or not.. hey.. my self-confidence.. etc.. i am shell shocked.. gun shy... what is up with that... okay... calm down. breath deep.. relax me..

I just interviewed with a guy in Durham, NC, who came off as a used-car salesman. High pressure, using buzzwords and stating a 98 percent placement percentage. He said the lowest paid person was at $52K, and the average was $88K.

I asked questions about why I shouldn't go get 5 certs through NC State for $3500 instead of the 20K they were asking, and he said "no test passing guarantee", that NC State doesn't have "certified instructors" and that they didn't have the contacts that New Horizons does. Really? A state university is worse than someone I never heard of?

I asked why they contacted me, and he said "You contacted us." No, I didn't. "You applied for a position with one of our clients who forwarded your resume." Likely I found one of the fake positions they post, and they contacted me back when I applied.

This sounds just like ITT Tech, where my friend's family lost money on the two years of training that got him jack for a job.

They are not teaching hands on material in this institution. They are just basically teaching you how to pass exams, mainly memorization without learning. The programs were already installed and all we did was follow the books directions without learning anything. I learned more studying by myself than the instructors taught me. Their job placements are a joke, they send your resume to only a few employers that are not even affiliated with New Horizons. I got a call back from two employers for interviews which i did not prepare myself for because I was expecting a job not an interview. Do not trust these people, they are only after your money. I basically gave up with their job placement that was suppose to be guaranteed. After I was done with the program, i reread the course material and other sources, mainly library books that was more imformative than their workbooks and I bought a brand new pc to implement Server to Client environment. It took awhile but I was able to learn alot doing things by myself and passed the exams. I've got 4 certifications and a renewed confidence in applying what i've learned. I wasn't picky with jobs, so i started with contractual jobs with IT angencies. These jobs were only two to three day projects for their clients. I've gain experience and confidence from doing these projects that led to a fulltime temp gig and eventually a full time position.(which I still have, going 4 yrs now, current date is 07/13/2010). Salary is 36k a year. Do not believe their hype of earning an income of 50-70k a year. Those salaries are for administrators who have 20 to 30 yrs experience and that started from the bottom and worked their way up.

My Advice is stay away from this place. You are better off doing things by yourself by doing some research. Google is a great place to start. The library is also another source you could use. Also have the drive and attitude to not give up. And one more thing, be mentally prepared for some dissapointments and continue on. I was hired for my full time temp position after ten different interviews.

Thanks alot for the advice! I went to a new horizon in XXX, and they tried to get me for almost 30k! It was a 6 month program. I realized it take way longer then that to get just 1 msce certification. They almost had him! Its unreal, no real books or computers! How did this company make it this far. No one was in class, or in the parking lot. Big scam, I'm learn more on my on then they would have ever taught me! Less than 2k for books and lab materials.

Oh my goodness I've been fighting for my money back for a year now. Someone else I know has been going on two. I left within the time they said I could get a refund, nothing! Why on earth would I pay for someone to read to me? My goodness even the front desk is unprofessional, as soon as I signed on they stated hanging up on me when I called for questions. If you see their logo anywhere run!

Why do they continue to receive moneys from the government under the WIA when they are not placing any students in jobs after the training?

I got a call from Don at New Horizon and it sounds like they want you to sign up and and get stuck with loans so they can make a commission and get paid... I originally submitted my resume that I sent on carrer builder for entry level IT jobs. All this sounds and most be a scam. Career builder should kick out new horizion out of their websites because they are missleading. Their ad says for entry-level IT jobs not school! I have an interview with Don in the morning. Guess what? I'm not showing up.
Sorry Don ! Don't fall for their scam!

Actually I'm looking for a job in the IT Technology Field. I have a BS in Computer Sciences.
Yesterday I received a phone call by Brandon Peterson from New Horizons Computer Learning Center in Orlando regarding my resume for an opportunity in the IT Field, then He gave me an appointment for an Interview. I was very Happy, Until the Interview.

He began telling me about what wonderful is that school, bla bla bla.
later He saw my resume and said: you have a good BS degree and a good background and experience, but it's important to take advantage about the certifications, I said: well, actually I'm studying many certifications by myself, I have experience.

After that, the job position disappear. He began to offer me many courses in that school, and try enroll me and offer me a loan for pay that.

I'm new in Florida, and THIS IS VERY DISHONEST, UNETHICAL AND UNMORAL!

I drove for 40 miles for this! THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING!

Last summer, I sent my resume for a job ad on Career Builder that stated "entry-level IT position." I believe it said "training provided." It did not list the name of the company. A couple of days later I had a voicemail from someone who said they were calling in regards to my resume. When I called back, they answered the phone "New Horizons". I did not make the connection at first that this was a so-called training school. They transferred me to someone named "Joe". He tried to sell me on signing up for classes.

When I said I was not interested in signing up for "Computer training classes" he became very rude. I said "I thought I was sending my resume for a job posting." He got really snotty and said "Well how do you expect to get a job in IT if you have no training?" I said "well if I did I would go to a community college or UCF." he then hung up on me. I think it was very dishonest to post an ad that appeared to be a job posting when it was in fact a ploy to get people to sign up for classes. If you live in the Orlando area please do not reply to an "entry-level IT job" ad. It's just a scam.
