Nazareth Powerhouse Gym Billing

I signed up for the Nazareth Powerhouse Gym before they had even opened (this was almost 2 years ago). They charged me a membership fee right away even though I was told nothing would be collected until the gym opened, which was MUCH later than I was told. They also grossly overbilled me for three months. I signed only a year contract with them when signing up and marked the box to not have my membership renewed automatically and yet I am still being charged every month. I even went and canceled my membership and still I am being billed. Never go to this gym and never sign anything since apparently they don't follow their own contracts.

Nazareth Powerhouse Gym Closed

Powerhouse gym is closed and that's that! Under new ridicoulous managment it "re-opned". But don't think it's even close to the same. I went there to check it out and what a joke.
It is so tiny, I'm not kidding either. It was a curves so that should give you a hint of the size. If you want to check it out it's 8006 West Main Street, Bath going towards Palmerton on Rt 248 W.
Two tredmills and two elipitcals that face a gross mauve color wall, the rest of the equipment is pushed along the walls. There is no dressing room or showers. Just a bathroom to throw up in! I am so mad! Oh also no classes!
They totally ripped everyone off. Oh the best part, If you want to become a new member of this place its like $36 or $39 a month! Ha! You might as well flush your money down a toilet.

I called Retro Fitness in Easton to find a new gym. They have a special right now for $49.99 enrollment fee (down from $99) however if you tell them you were a member of Powerhouse (they know the situation) they knock another $10 off. So $39.99 plus one month ($19.99)

For everyone that is getting their bank accounts hit by the creep of Powerhouse. Do whatever you can to get the draft stopped! They are scamming you!

Nazareth Powerhouse & Fitness Center Members:
Contact the Attorney General to lodge a complaint.

I filed a case the day after the gym closed and have since learned some very interesting tidbits about our dearest Michael's business practices. For one the gym was not bonded so any payment plan withdrawals from your bank account or charges to a credit card are illegal. If you have paid either of those ways please contact the Attorney Generals office asap.

Nazareth Powerhouse Gym Payment and Facility

Nazareth Powerhouse Gym opened in January of 2008 in Nazareth, PA, and as my wife and I were moving to Nazareth in July, we decided to join in May of that year. The club's setup was fairly spartan at the beginning, with only one main room holding all of the work out equipment - treadmills, weight machines, free weights, and spin bikes - but when we signed up, we were shown rooms in the back that would be developed into rooms to support the different kinds of equipment. The locker rooms were nice, with individual shower stalls and lockers, and so signed on for a year's agreement.

Fast forward to February of 2009. Nothing had changed in the gym - no rooms developed for spinning or other classes, and there was no indication any work to do so was going forward. Several times, I complained to management that there was insufficient ventilation for the spinning classes - there was only one small 12" box fan provided for most classes, which is simply not enough when there are 10 to 15 individuals participating in a spinning class. Nothing changed. Many of the instructors for classes seemed disinterested, and the cleanliness of the locker rooms had slipped a notch or two.

Finally, in March, my wife and I started looking at alternatives. In a last ditch attempt to stick with a local business, I called and spoke to a manager at the club on March 11th in attempt to find out what they planned to do to make the club more attractive, especially considering the things that had been promised when we signed up. I was informed at that time that the club was actually moving the very next day to a new location about 5 miles away. This was the first I'd heard of this, despite recieving other emails from the club on other subjects. I went in that afternoon and cancelled my membership, and was told that they understood, and I would not receive any further billing. I joined another local gym, and thought that was the end of it.

Instead, on April 1st, I found that I had been billed again. Upon contacting the club (which has still not reopened since the closing on March 12th!), I was told they would contact ABC, their billing company. I called ABC myself, to discover that no cancellation of my membership had been forwarded to them.

I'm still trying to sort all of this out, but needless to say, I won't be recommending this business to anyone I know. It's a shame, because I wanted to support a locally owned and operated business.

I did the same, although I'm not sure how much good either will do. But it's certainly worth a try.

I would like to file a complaint...I am so frustrated. What is the best route to take? I actually got a phone call promoting the new location in Bath and asking me to join! Maybe they should have checked their books. I am paid for the next 1 1/2 years! Huge mistake on my part.

Please let me know.. thanks!

Nazareth Powerhouse Gym Dues and Pay Check

I paid upfront for a Family Membership. I paid for a year in full. I was only a member for 8 months, when the gym relocated to the dumpy barn they thought would support weights and cardio equipment. They moved on March 13, 2009. Still haven't reopened. My daughter worked in the nursery. She showed up every time she was scheduled on time. She worked approximately 20 hours per week. Her last day of employment was March 15, 2009, when she helped with the move to the new location. She has not been paid since the end of January. We have been calling the owner's cell phone. I left him four messages in 2 days time. Haven't heard a word.

Nazareth Powerhouse Gym Gym Closed

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. OWNER Mike Leone has not followed through on any promises.

The gym closed without advance warning and stuck a lot of people for membership fees. They say they "moved" but there is no gym in operation at the "new" location. They blame "zoning" problems but this seems like a serious case of poor business management.

Rumor has it they were pretty behind on rent at the old location and needed to move quickly. Seems like they didn't do much up-front work on the move and tried to move an entire gym in 4 days, WITHOUT zoning permits. Are you kidding me? The "new" location at Rt 22 and 191 near Cigars International is a boarded-up building with exercise equipment outside the building and a poorly-worded sign stating the gym is moving in a "new direction". I'll say they'removing in a new direction...down the tubes.

The Township forced them to stop citing concerns about the type of business it is and also some safety concerns with the new building. This info is per gym employees.

I was forced to cancel my credit card because they over-charged me and did not follow through on my refund. They took $270 from my wife in January for a 1-year membership and $30 enrollment fee and there is no way for her to get a refund because the phone goes unanswered.

Stay away from this place until new ownership takes over, if that happens.

If you are having trouble reaching Michael Leone for your refund, I have his home address which is public record on the documents which are filed against him in this lawsuit. Maybe if you call, write or visit him at home you can get your refund. Just my thought. His brother's address in Maryland is also provided as follows...

I just joined Retro Gym in Palmer Township after one trip to the new facility in Bath, which by the way, my friend in Moore Twps has a nicer set up in his basement. I did a one year contract last December with Powerhouse as most people did simply because I could walk to the gym, no other reason to spend $350 to go to that place. I mean, they didn't even have a water fountain! When I called them for a refund, they said they were not obligated to refund my money since they met these two requirements: 1) They reopened the gym within a one month period. 2) The new gym is within 5 miles of the original location (although my GPS says 6.2). For anyone looking for a new gym, the staff at retro knocked $20 of the initial sign up, and for a limited time yet, it is $19.99 a month, for life with a one year contract. Very nice, new equiptment.

Nazareth Powerhouse Gym Fintess Instructors

The new year for Nazareth Powerhouse Gym sucks. Something changed. The gym is so dirty I can't take showers before I go to work. The showers are discusting and there are never towels on the floor to wipe equipment down. The classes have gone down hill. They used to be creative and energetic, now I don't know what is going on. I heard the instructors are not even certificed and it shows. They don't understand how the music count works with the choreograph one needs for step and kick classes. I have taken classes at the YMCA and LA and these classes at Nazareth Powerhouse don't even come close. When you walk in, I think a grey cloud is hovering over the gym. The employees don't even look at you and nobody smiles. When I come to a gym I want to be uplifted not thrown under a bus. Come on Nazereth Powerhouse, you better pick it back up or you will loose your members. If you are not a member, I highly suggest you get a guest pass and try the classes, check out the cleanliness of the gym and the attitudes of their employees. Good Luck.

Hey, haven't seen Mr. Leone on here in a while touting how wonderful his gym is with all its classes and facilities, guess he's just a big pu$$y hiding out behind the lawyers and blaming Cavanaugh now for selling everyone these memberships. Nice marketing scam you pansy piece of [censored], maybe you should meet up with some of your former members and employees in the old facility so we can air our complaints in person. But you can't do that because then you'd have to face up to the fact that you are a total f---in wimp, and your enormous ego couldn't handle that, could it? Pedophiles have more ethics than you.

I was gonna join there this month but when I called I felt creeped out by this guy Randy. So when he called back he told me he's not gonna be there and I can just still go there and check out the gym, he'll leave the door unlocked! Now who the hell tell's you that. When I didnot call him back, he kept calling my house insisting that "he knew I was gonna join and I can work out with him". I got a phone call everyday for 4 days after that. Then my fiance' called and told him to stop calling and leave me alone! He hasnt called since then! I was totally creeped out. Thats the type of person to watch you change in the locker rooms!

This "gym" if that's what you want to call it, is a BIG JOKE! It was ok when we started there in August 2008, then is QUICKLY declined. Mike Leone is the biggest JOKE of all and so is the family that is involved in this so called establishment. He is a crook, has a crooked past and is just ignorant. I saw the "NEW" powerhouse express gym today in Bath. OMG- that place is pathetic. It's connected to a gas station convenience store and hair salon. There are MAYBE a total of 6 machines, maybe. There are 2 tv's on the floor and the machines face blank walls. It is the size of a bedroom it is so small. And the guy Randy that is working there now, who claims to be a partner is way creepy. He told me even though they were closed for the evening I could come there with him and workout, seriously creepy. I was promised a 2 hour massage in exchange for the 2 months of payments we made while they were closed and relocating. That never happened. They are still charging us for each month. This man is disgusting and pathetic, I feel sorry for the people that work(ed) for him...they are just trying to earn a living. I am thankful that there is a class action lawsuit against this ###.

I found Michael today at the old Curves building on 248/Airport Rd. There are some bootleg yellow signs up that say "gym" right outside. The place is the size of my bathroom. It's a joke. I told him I wanted to cancel my membership and he said OK - and called some client services number right in front of me and said, ok you are cancelled. I asked for a confirmation or cancellation number and he couldn't provide either. I am sure it's a matter of time before I see a charge on my bank statement. He had a guy named Randy in there who asked me if I wanted to train there. I tried to be polite and said no thank you, I already found a new gym - and he said, "yea everyone wants a million dollar gym for $20 a month"... ok buddy, most of us would have settled for A GYM - PERIOD... and I was one of the idiots who was paying $40 a month for that turd of a place next to Giant anyway...
it's a joke, we get it things happen and businesses fail - but let it go and do the right thing for the people who tried to support the place

I am an ex employee at powerhouse and one thing i can tell you is every rumor is true... the filling cabinet... not getting paid... etc... its all true! myslef as well as all the other employees are owed very large amounts of money for example we got paid during the last month of feb for the begining of jan. and that was it.. we are always promised money day after day.. and the one thing that really bothers me is we were paid under the table in cash and all of the sudden he said we were being taxed... turns out govt never got any of our papers and he was taking our taxes out and keeping them somehow... idont fullly understand the situation but its a mess stay away

Well, here's what I did:
I went to my bank (I was getting my monthly fees debited out of my checking acct) and I told them the situation. They already knew, however. I filled out a stop payment request (at the lovely charge of $30, thanks, Michael!). They said the stop payment was good for 6 months. I'm hoping by that time, this whole mess will be sorted out. If not, I'm closing my checking acct and opening up a new one - one that won't get debited!
