Was feeding the baby a jar of bannans beginer 1 and to may surprise there were 2 chucks of glass in the bottom of the jar. Luckily I was paying attention and noticed in the next bite that I was going to give her had one of the chucks of glass on the spoon. Do not know if there were in slivers in the food or not. But I have called the company but no answer since it is the weekend and posted a complaint on their web site.

Although possible, this seems unusual. Many companies, though not all, use empty bottle inspectors on glass baby food jars to help prevent glass in baby food, at least from the jar itself. These machines inspect bottles and jars before they are filled to make sure there is no broken glass, cracks, chips, residual liquid from the washer or other contaminants in the container before it is filled with product. It is amazing just how many inspections most food and beverage products go through on a well-designed production line, significantly reducing the risk to consumers. There are companies that only build quality control and inspection equipment for canning and bottling lines because of most companies’ concerns over food safety. If anyone’s interested, here’s a link to one such company to give you an idea of just what kinds of inspections can be done: http://www.filtec.com/products.htm
