The Mystic Stamp Company, 9700 Mill Street, Camden, NYU 13316, sent me stamp that I did not order, expecting me to buy or return. I did neither, nor will I. If Mystic or RMCB (Mystic's collection agency) wants to sending me prepaid mailing materials I will (generously, I think) take the time and go to the trouble of sending them to whereever they want.

I have been dealing with Mystic Stamp Company for many years. I have ALWAYS found them to be honest and straightforward with me. The quality of the merchandise they send me has always been top notch. I guess I am one of the fortunate ones. I appreciate them and their good service.

Mystic is a dirty company that preys on uneducated, beginner stamp collectors. It floods novice collectors with cheap packet mixtures along with phony promises of great value. Mystic stamps are ridiculously over-priced and in many cases not in the grade and condition as advertised.
Mystic's chief stamp buyer is Mark Morrow of Mark Morrow Stamps, Inc.
Morrow was charged with bid rigging stamp auctions and fraud in 2002.
Here's proof:

Don't buy stamps from, or sell stamps to these, unscrupulous swindlers.

For about 2 years i have had good service from Mystic. Now they started to say that my check was send to the wrong account and was placed into a new dept. So it has been over 3 weeks and they have not cashed it. I told then to close the account and i will file a report to the BBB and the state.

we do have an obligation to receive their offer if we did not cross the choice out. however, if they send us stamps, they should have pre-paid envelop. YES THE COMPANY SHOULD BE PAYING BOTH WAYS, because I should not have to pay for making my decision. what would you guys feel when you leave a counter in a mall and were charged for not buying anything? THEY ARE MAILING THINGS to expand THEIR business and it is like ADVERTISEMENT, they should pay it.

I got some free Mickey 70th anniversary stamps. They also sent me some others and if I wanted them I had to pay 19 something. I will send in a check. At least they let you see the stamps before you buy them. I'm not sure if they are or will be worth the price I am paying, but I like Disney and am a collector of things so I will enjoy them. I guess if I get some I do not like and send them back, they will still send me more? I hope so. I like the fact that you only pay once you get and see the stamps.

What happens if you don't send the stamps back and don't pay for them either?

@SLSoBob - You may not see it now but before I was ok with them too. and now this happen, everyone knows that nothing is ever really "FREE". It's how they handle it that make people want to complain about it. Even if they have good reputation before, now they have bad reputation since people are raising their voice on WHAT THEY ARE DOING WRONG. Think what if you ask them to stop sending things and what you get is an ok from them and more things on their way. They have a right to send by that's like sending spam e-mail. And how do you feel about spam e-mail?

I started to collect stamp a few years ago and order from mystic stamp co. Then, they started sending those preapprove stamps. At first, I was happy about expanding my collections and they even send you a binder for them. I may not pay them in time sometimes but I always pay them eventually. ****Last year, I was layoff and couldn't afford any more stamps. So I called them and payoff all the invoices with my credit card(about $300). I also asked them to stop sending most of them except 1 that I would like to continue getting (that I could still pay)...At first, it was fine. But maybe it was my fault for not paying attention to the mails. I received several other one (each 1 around $35 or so) and I was like what the hell I like stamps and I could still afford to pay ~$100. So I was like ok but I don't know the total amount since they send so many past due invoices. ****Here is the good part, I call them to pay them off with my credit card. To my surprise, my outstanding BALANCE IS ~$450! I ask them to send the list of things I didn't pay and they send past due invoices and till this day, I only receive invoices that only total up to ~$100. I'm calling again tomorrow and going to stay on the phone with them until this is resolved!

Look, folks (complainers)! Find out a little bit about your hobby of choice before you get involved in it. Learn what "approvals" are and completely read any advertisement before sending away for "FREE" stuff. Mystic is a large company with a long reputation of good service to the stamp collecting public. They are not a charitable organization, catering to your whims and fancies! If any of you were at all wise, you would know by now that nothing - NOTHING - is "FREE". Stop bringing an entitlement mentality into the hobby of stamp collecting - and grow up to be real men and women of character (what's that?) Read EVERYTHING in the ad and have some ethics and dignity when dealing with a problem you have with others - including large businesses who do most of their business by mail. Stop being rude, threatening and heavy-handed. If you made a mistake in not completely reading the conditions attached to receiving "free" items, be man or woman enough to say so. And stop complaining about having to pay return postage. Would you like it if you had to pay postage on ANYTHING both ways? Practice the GOLDEN RULE (Gee, now there's a concept!) Maybe complainers should take up another hobby like cycling, walking or jogging. These hobbies oxygenate the brain and help you to think more clearly. GROW UP and act MORE mature than you really are!

I recently ordered a small stamp collection for two dollars off of a magazine ad. Alongside it came about a dozen other enevelopes full of stamps as part of a stamp approval process for their customers, which was never mentioned in the first offer. I sent those back, for it wasn't a really big deal at first. Later I started to receive more of those stamps in the mail. The only problem was the enclosed return envelope had no prepaid postage, forcing me to pay money to ship it back to camden, NY. Alongside it I also included a letter politley asking them to remove my name from their trial offers. Nevertheless, more stamps came to my house, on which I simply wrote "return to sender" and tossed it back in the mail. After a brief harassment-free period, I suddenly received a letter from them one day, claiming I owed them money for stamps they had sent me through the approval process on given date, such &such, etc. I immediately picked up the phone and called their 1-800 number. After being rejected by the first operator, I called again, having more luck this time. I gave the lady all my information and explained that there had been a misunderstanding and that I had sent all trial items back. After roughly 5 minutes of waffling back and forth, she finally cleared the charges from my balance. Following that, I blunty told her again that I do not wish to receive any items that I hadn't specifically ordered and paid for ahead of time. I also threatened them by saying that if they do not stop their practices, I would contact my lawyer, the Better Business Bureau, and the Attorney General. None of their spam has come since.

I am also facing the same issue with this company. After continuous reminders for four months, I filed a complaint with BBB. In response of that Mystic replied that they will stop all unsolicited mails. But after two weeks of this written confirmation they started again with the same fraud sales practice. I am planing to sue them for this continuous harassment.

I had the same thing happen to me too. So annoying. I purchased some items from them many many (like 8!) years ago and out of the blue (in 2010) I get this package they say is worth $35 and I have to pay for it or send it back. I spoke with their customer service and told them to remove my name permanently from their lists. They claim it is a mistake that this was sent to me and that when people ask for their catalogs which they send out for free, they say they will send out more stamps. SO ANNOYING. Really. I thought it was illegal to send unwanted stuff like this. The Book Clubs used to do it and I thought they were banned from it...now they claim it is their mistake, but I see here that I am not the first person to ever have this happen to them...IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, CALL THEM AND BE FIRM. Tell them you're not sending the stamps back and you're not paying.

My 8 year old son ordered the free offer. He received the offer and the stamps on approval. It was a good lesson on what sending in for free offers can bring. I sent a letter requesting that no more approvals were to be sent. No issues. I have not received any other approvals. He has started collecting thanks to the free offer but I have to keep an eye on what he wants to order. I have been a collector since I was his age so he is becoming the next generation of collectors

I have been using the Mystic Stamp Company on and off since 1952. I used to live down the block from their old location. The service was good. The company and its employees have an excellent reputation in the small community where they are located.

To cdp2cds and the others who complained. I understand your complaint, I admit that I had a similar complaint when, to my surprise, I received stamps "on approval" from Mystic and other similar companies when I began collecting about 60 years ago. But unfortunately you did indeed "ask for what you got." I looked at the web site link cdp2cds included and it clearly says; "Send today for the Free 140-page catalogue, and you'll also receive other interesting stamps on approval." That's all it takes. They are within the law and always have been. cdp2cds didn't ask for a bill per se, but that is the price for the "approvals." If you don't want them, just send them back. You'll waste time, money, and raise your blood pressure doing anything else. "Just say no thanks." And yes, they will repeatedly send offer after offer. That's the business they are in. Get over it. I have never had a problem that they didn't fix right away to my satisfaction.

The mystic stamps company is a BS fraudulent company! Do not sign-up to get anything from them. You will be bombarded with stuff you don't want, every week if not days! And not only that, if you want to discontinue their service, it is not going to be easy - brace yourself for multiple phone calls and email communications. After I finally closed my account with them, never heard from them in months, then all of the sudden got a bill from collection agency. What a BS fraudulent company! Beware and definitely DON'T BUY!

The same thing happened to me...I followed a link to get a "FREE" stamp catalog for my kids who have started collecting...it just asked for my address, no credit card number, no fine print, nothing. Then I get a package yesterday with gold dollars and stamps and a bill for $27.50 that said "enclosed is the advertised offer you sent for"...well they can kiss my butt...I just filed a complaint with the BBB against them stating false advertising and devious selling practices. Just let them keep this crap up, nobody bullies me into buying or paying for anything that I didn't ask for...Very poor business practice! If I wanted to order stamps, I would never order from them now, they've left a very bad taste in my mouth and it's not from licking stamps...LMAO!

Did you order one of their grab bag set of stamps? On the ads they always clearly state that you are agreeing to receive stamps for approval and may send them back with no obligation. They even include a postage paid envelope. In this age of technology, I would think a phone call or email would be more timely than snail mail to request them to stop.

I have dealt with this company 30+ years and have never had a major gripe with them. If there ever are problems, they correct it for me. You should reexamine your past actions to figure why they are sending you these "unsolicited" items and realize they are in the business to sell stamps. And read those ads a little more carefully. Next time it may be an unscrupulous company.

Same here! I just sent a letter to them telling them just what you said. Not only do I NOT want, nor ordered what they are sending me, I sent them a message for them to stop and they continued to mail it. The next option is to make a complaint with the Postal Inspection Service.
