My Plumber Heating and Cooling - All new plumbing and won’t finish job,

On May 10, 2023, Jason, the master plumber came to my house and gave me an estimate. The estimate was for doing all the rough plumbing and finishing all the work including installing a new bath tub, new toilet, and a new sink in the bathroom. In the kitchen, all the rough plumbing was done waiting for the sink and the faucet drain lines and traps to be...

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Noritz tankless heater installation

I Mad MyPlumber install 2 Tankless Hot Water heaters in my home. I didn't think much of it at the time, but when the control panel failed, I noticed the second unit wasn't even plugged in. There is no second outlet installed to power the second unit. I called the company to fix the control panel and it had to be replaced. It is on order now. As long as I had the person here, I pointed out that the second unit was never installed correctly and is not connected. They sent out their electrician out to install a second outlet. What he told me is he will charge me for installing the second outlet. I don't know what kind of scam they are running, but this installation should be a no charge, since they screwed this up from the start. I would run the other way if this is their business practice. I would not recommend them to anyone I know.

Desired outcome: The connection of the second unit should be free as it was not installed, per the original agreement.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling employee harassment

My client had been sent home Thursday the 15th from the Manassas location, as per his manager's (James) instructions. As my client went to tell his on-site supervisor that he was being sent home, the supervisor complained that my client was "being a little b[censor]" and "screwing us over". Friday my client was off for a doctors appointment he has scheduled and got approval for earlier in the week. The following Monday, my client was called "a b[censor]" by his on-site supervisor. The supervisor continued to tell other employees that my client was "his b[censor] and did whatever he told him to do". Then today (Tuesday the 20th) the on-site supervisor continued to complain about my client being sent home on Friday and continued to imply that he was "a little b[censor]". My client reported this to his manger (James) and was told to get through today and he would see if he could switch him with another on-site supervisor but it might not be possible. Under OSHA harassment is described as:
Offensive, harassing conduct may include, but is not limited to:
•Offensive jokes, slurs, epithets, or name calling
•Physical assaults, threats, or intimidation
•Verbal or written ridicule, mockery, insults, or put-downs
•Display or use of offensive objects or pictures
•Malicious interference with work performance

And according to the EEOC
If the supervisor's harassment results in a hostile work environment, the employer can avoid liability only if it can prove that:
1) it reasonably tried to prevent and promptly correct the harassing behavior; and 2) the employee unreasonably failed to take advantage of any preventive or corrective opportunities provided by the employer.

The manager did not take any immediate actions and his only response was he can switch him to another on-site supervisor but that does not mean that they will not work together at some point in time. Also he did not reach out to the on-site supervisor to correct his actions.

I have multiple employees who are witnesses to these several incidents. I also have a phone record of the call with James.

If you could email be back immediately. That would be wonderful. I have contacted several people and none of which would like to help me. My client and I do not want take any legal action. We just want the right thing done: for the manager to correct the on-site supervisors behavior and to allow my client to work under another on-site supervisors authority.

My email is mae.[protected]@gmail.com

If you could email me back immediately I would greatly appreciate that.

Thank you very much,

Judith Michael

C I am very upset with your agency because I was told the full amount to pay
and emailed a receipt indicating that amount to pay which I paid that quote in full and now that amount has doubled. Had I been quoted that amount upfront, I would have cancelled your service. I think I was purposefully tricked into this purchase.

Delores Symonette

Forced to pay an additional $4, 000 after being given a quote the night before which was less the night before which I paid. Then forced to sign another request but never told the additional amount would be $4, 000 more then the first quote of $3, 069.00.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling service, price, lack of communication

Over a year ago we had an issue which took them 3 times to repair properly — for some reason the landlord called them back & now and the issue is part of the original problem back in 2016. Which we told them about then! Not only are they charging a huge price to do work that should have been done a year ago... The work required permits first. Once they got the deposit - we had to call them every 3 days on the status of the permits. Then one day they just showed up to start the work — but wasted all day trying to get the right equipment to them for the job. A 2 day job turned into 7 & it's still not completed. When I asked how much longer to the worker - he was very rude & laughed at me to go by whatever I was told. Then before he left - he actually deliberately moved the dumpster closer to my car so that I could not get our of my parking space. I had parked more than 5 ft away from it - and when they left - the dumpster was 6 inches away from my front bumper. When we called - all of the managers were gone... As of today-no one has called us back to discuss. Worst customer service ever — worst communication by any business I have ever dealt with. Over priced and rude employees who were cursing on the job even though young children were right in range of them. They usually do good work - but are terrible on all other avenues of the business. Hire any other plumber you can.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Plumbing and ac services

I travel internationally for work and my husband is not very handy at home maintenance so we signed on with the My Plumber Priority Club($20/month buys one access to priority customer service and reduced pricing for services) when we encountered a small problem with one of our heat pumps. It took four calls to customer service to get someone out to our house to do the repair work. They said they replaced a fan that had been put in wrong when our house was built, and the charge was $1600! About one week after this, something else went wrong and we had to call them back(another $1200). It got to the point where it seemed that every time they came out something else would go wrong with the system they had worked on. As I was traveling so much for work, I asked my husband to call a different vendor if something went wrong with our heating and/or AC. He had the $1500 air purifier installed(no difference in air quality) and called someone else when our second heat pump needed coolant(the cost was less than $150 (attributed to a screw missing at the site of the fan?) ! We kept the $20 per month membership just in case of an emergency.

Unfortunately, one morning in March, my husband woke to no water. I was unavailable, so in a panic, he called My Plumber. Eleven hours later, when I was available, I learned that My Plumber had diagnosed a broken well pump switch (4 year old well, the switch was supposed to last 25 years). They would not honor the warranty because they "don't do that"...An exact quote)and the bill was more that $6000.00.

While home on vacation over the holidays, I added up the repair bills from My Plumber for an 18 month period and was shocked to see they totaled more than $11, 000.00 over an 18 month period. I called today to cancel our priority membership and was told the manager would have to decide if I could cancel it! I called my credit card company and had My Plumber marked as an unauthorized vendor and they will not be allowed to charge to my account. For those of you who paid your bill with a credit card, check to see if your credit card company will dispute a price-gouged charge on your behalf. My credit card company does this if the overcharge is reported with 90 days of receipt of your statement. Hopefully, I will never need it again, but it's nice to know it is there.

Stay away from My Plumber. Their repair work is shotty and overpriced, and they wouldn't know customer service if it bit them in their hind parts. Greater than $11000.00 for repairs on a four year old home(purchased new)? Buyers beware!

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Cutbacks on customer service

My Plumber Heating & Cooling has greatly increased it pricing for seasonal inspection & maintenance of A/C & Heating for residential systems. What use to be a thorough inspection & system tune-up has now significantly increased in cost from $89 to $129. For us senior citizens this is a disservice & disgraceful. Don't they know that we are on FIXED incomes. The $49 service that they offered is a total rip-off. All that is done is a visual inspection of the wiring, and check the temperature which comes out of the vents. Recommend that you saved your money and look else where for a more affordable but comprehensible service company!

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Price Gouging

Kicking myself for not researching this company before using them. Prices charged for work are ridiculous. I had a kitchen faucet installed (labor only, I already had the faucet), a garbage disposal replaced, a shut-off valve installed on the line to the fridge ice maker, and a shutoff valve and supply line changed on a toilet. Total charge, $2350! On checking around after the fact I learned this was about two to three times what other plumbing services would have charged for the same work.

I realize prices vary and I normally don't mind paying a bit more for quality. But let's say this job was $400 for parts (very generous estimate) and $200/hour for labor (also very generous, this would be typical overtime rate), even throw in $100 for a housecall, that only comes to $1300. There's no way to make sense of the $2350 charge.

I tried to dispute the bill with them and after several calls finally reached the owner. He insisted they only make 15% profit on all their work. Well if you're charging three times what your competitors charge and only making 15% profit, you're doing something very wrong! He ultimately offered to refund $200 off my bill. That doesn't even bring it from "total rip-off" down to "gross overcharge". Oh well, I guess I just paid dearly for a learning experience.

In hindsight I can see a number of shady tactics they use to prey on ignorant customers.

- When you call they won't tell you anything about their pricing. The office says only the technician can give pricing. When I tried to dispute the total bill with the technician, he told me he doesn't set pricing, it's all set by the office. So if it's set by the office, why can't they tell you what the rates are for the jobs before you waste time meeting with the technician in your home? Because they know you'll be less likely to say no at that point.

- Fake "discount" rates. In the itemized bill they put everything in two colums. One says regular rate, one says 10% discount rate. You get the discount rate. Don't you feel lucky? You might, until you learn that their discount rate is still three times higher than their competitors.

- Exaggerating the complexity of the work. The technician told me that installing the wall mount kitchen faucet I'd purchased was a tricky job he "wouldn't wish on his worst enemy". The quote was for $350. That turned out to be about 20 minutes of labor and he didn't even have to get under the sink. I asked a competitor what they would have charged for that job and they said it would go at their normal labor rate of $135 per hour weekdays, or $210 per hour weekends. I paid over $1000 an hour to My Plumber!

- Adding on incremental work that greatly inflates the original quote. I was quoted $427 for a garbage disposal replacement. That seemed pretty high to begin with. You'd think that high of a flat rate would include padding for some contingencies in the work, right? Nope, after he removed the old disposal he told me there were code violations in the old installation (no electrical outlet, some galvanized pipe in the drain connection) that he had to fix. There was also evidence of some leaking at the drain connection. He ended up cutting the end of the drain pipe, re-threading it, and adding a new plastic drain pipe, plus adding an electrical box. Each item was added on at several hundred dollars extra. All told it was only a couple extra hours work and some plastic pipe. Grand total for the disposal went from $427 to $1212. There was even a $99 charge for "drain cleaning". Doesn't it seem like "drain cleaning" should be part of a garbage disposal replacement in the first place, and not added on later?

- Exaggerating the necessity of upgrades. It was quite obvious there was no outlet before he took out the old disposal, so shouldn't that have been priced up front? The owner told me if I didn't want an outlet box added, I should have told him to just wire it back up like it had been. Howerver, the technician had removed the old unit, then told me he couldn't just wire up the new one directly like it had been done because that was a code violation. It didn't sound like he was offering me an option, it sounded like he was saying he couldn't finish this job without adding it. He charged $300 for that addition alone.

- The high pressure up-sell. Besides the extra work on the disposal, he told me my existing ice maker supply line was done incorrectly and was likely to leak, and that my toilet supply line had a cheap shutoff valve that would likely break and "flood the house". I fell for this and agreed to have him fix these. Once again, the price charged compared to the actual labor & parts was way high. Those two items added nearly $800 more.

- There's a "Same day service GUARANTEE or the labor is free" on the website. They don't honor this. The office manager told me it would be removed from the site. It's still there.

DO NOT USE MY PLUMBER!

Price gauging is illegal, similar to Racketeering, profiteering, and extortion. A contractor that commits two or more acts of extortion in a ten year period can be put in prison for up to 20 years. Don’t allow contractors to price gauge! It not only unethical, but illegal...

Date of service was 9/8/15. We had called on Sunday and was told since it was a long weekend, a plumber could not be dispatched until Tues and they did not give quotes over the phone. Since we had not had water for several days for fear of bursting the pipes, we agreed to have Mr. Plumber do the repair. He charged us $800 for one hour of labor and the water regulator. He also replaced a hose bib for which we had purchased the parts. After investigating other reputable firms, IE: Bill Howe and Anderson we realized that we were charged more than double what other plumbers would have quoted us. We are both seniors living on Social Security and feel a firm like this should be investigated and not be allowed to boast of their BBB approval.

Like the writer above, I wish we had investigated this firm before calling. The price was outrageous, but after a long weekend without water, we were desperate to get it fixed. Hadi charged us $800 for one hours worth of work. He tried to upsell us on a water system, but we rejected that. We had a water regulator replaced and also a hose bib. We supplied the parts for the hose bib. Hindsight is always 20/20, but we feel like fools for not having told this guy to leave after the quote. When I complained to the company, they could have cared less. Never, never do business with this firm. They should be investigated and not be allowed to claim they are approved by the BBB as that gives them some level of credibility.

Description Of Work:
My Plumber was contacted to diagnose I leak in my home. The leak ended up being caused by a toilet and primarily valve on the third floor of my home. In addition to identifying the cause of the leak, My Plumber replaced my toilet, their suggestion, and cutoff valve.

Recently had a water leak in my home. Associate from My Plumber responded very timely. He was very professional and thorough, indicated that I had a leaky toilet and valve. He took pictures even contacted Serv Pro to have them come to my home. This is the least I would have expected for a $175 diagnostic fee, before the 10% discount. This amount was not even deducted from the final bill since they did the work. What added insult to my already bad day was they charged me $730, before the nice 10% discount to replace the toilet and valve. They only offered two toilet models and would have charged over $400 just to install a toilet if I bought it elsewhere; which should have been my RED flag. Would never call this company again, their pricing is outrageous. Unfortunately, you'll have to pay $80, service call fee, just to find that out. Now knowing that I could have purchased this same toilet for About $160 - I feel like I've just been raped. The technician spent about 30-40 minutes installing the new toilet.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling $406.11 Bathroom Water Faucet Replacement

High prices for a simple job: charging a bathroom water faucet. The worker was very good, polite, professional and informative. However, I was charged for replacing a bathroom water facet, I supplied the faucet to be replaced, $406.11 for the labor (1.5 hours of labor max). This is outrageous! When calling My Plumber, I got the “company line”, “… the worker sets the price from the pricing book for the work…” They obviated any responsibilities for this outrageous price!

My Plumber Heating and Cooling estimate of service

I had the company My Plumber come to my house for an estimate to install a faucet and tub drain. The tub was already installed and the wall and floor were open by the homeowner for the installation of the tub drain. My plumber charged me $79.50 for coming out and an estimate of $3, 800 for the install. The plumber also called his boss and said the boss wanted $4, 500. What a scam! This job only required two hours of work and after asking My Plumber to leave, I called Haynes plumbing who installed the work for $825. Do not use this company. As you can see, not only is the estimate a scam, I had to pay the $79.50 for him to look at the job for five minutes.

I agree with the complainer. I had a kitchen sink stoppage and was charged 371 dollars for it. I was new owner and was taken advantage of by My Plumber company. I would not want to hire them again for their exorbiant prices. By the way, I was a first time home owner and deaf. I guess that gave them the excuse to charge me.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Deceptive Pricing

My Plumber provided me with the most unsatisfactory in home service in my 30 years of home ownership. The problem is their deceptive pricing. The actual service only took 15 minutes. After all, it was only unclogging a blocked kitchen drain. The price tag? $387! Including travel time to my house it works out to over $700 per hour. They have developed 'unit prices' for many services that include parts and labor. On the surface this seems simple. They won't give these prices out over the phone however. They need to 'look at it'. Then you are faced with a guy standing in your kitchen telling you to pay $387 to snake the drain or $90 to leave having done nothing (trip charge that was never mentioned). They could have easily given this ridiculous price over the phone. It's unclogging a drain for gosh sakes. The equivalent of plumbing 101. That, of coarse would defeat the purpose of the scam.

My Plummer just ripped me off by first quoting me a price for a new water heater and then the next day when it was put in they added an additional $4, 000 to the $3, 600 that I paid in full the night before. The next day they claimed my quote was too low. Then I was told to sign another agreement to include the additional amount but never told the full amount until late tonight. That was unfair treatment and had I been told how much more it would be I would have cancelled the entire service. I will never use them again and nor should anyone.

I called them to have them fix our water heater which broke down yesterday. First off, they will try to charge a “dispatch fee” of $80 just for sending someone to your house. The CSR I spoke with told me that she would waive the fee because I was a new customer. I asked for a ballpark figure for how much it would cost for them to fix the problem and was told that only the field technicians had the “book of prices.”

I get a call from my wife that the man wrote up a bill for $150 JUST for looking at the water heater. The total to actually repair the heater would be $850 total, or $1500 to replace the whole system. They did not say that actually looking at the heater was going to cost anything, let alone $150. I had a second plumber come in after they left and fix the same problem. The total charge for diagnosis AND repair was $180.00.

Obviously, the man would not have left the house without being paid, so my wife had to pay him with our credit card. I was able to have my credit card company reverse the charge. We would not have been so lucky if we paid with cash or check!

These crooks are trying to take advantage of people by price gouging heating services in the winter time. They are THE first result for “plumber in northern Virginia” on Google and unlucky people WILL try them first!

I called My Plumber (Virginia) to fix a toilet that did not flush. The guy came, and told me the internal mechanism had to be changed AND he had to snake the toilet. All this for $750. I said NO, and went to Home Depot, bought a snake for $34. Snake the toilet myself (very, very easy) and it works.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Incorrect diagnosis and trying to sell me work I don't need!

In Nov 2010, the water backed-up when we ran our wash machine. It would come out in the kitchen sink (but never overflowed, thank God) and water would spill out of the airpipe on top of the roof located over the washer. We had a local company fix the problem for us (for about $400) but were only able to warranty it for 30 days. In April 2011, same problem happened again and we decide to go with another company since the work from the first company lasted only five month. We picked Myplumber.com since they look to be a big company in this area and also had the video service so we can ensure the work is properly done.

First issue with them is communication within their own company. We explained to the dispatcher that we had this problem before and they would need to send two guys with a ladder to get to the problem as it needs to be snaked from the roof. Only one guy came, with no ladder. I could either help the guy myself using my own ladder or we can make another appt and start over. The guy did the job and did give me a discount for my assistance (came to about $400 again WITH the discount). He says he cannot give me a warranty period until the the video guy came to do a free video inspection of the line.

This is the good part. The video guy to come out a few days later and scoped the line. Told us there was a break in our underground pipe beneath the family room and marked the location of the break. The family room is next to the kitchen which is next to the laundry room. Told us we can either replace just the section of the underground pipe beneath the family room for about $5000, that came only with a 2-year warranty OR we can replace the underground pipes from the laundry room to the kitchen to the family room for about $10, 000 and they will warranty that for 20 years. (Plus, I would have needed to shell out another $4200 to replace the flooring for the laundry room, kitchen and family room!) On top of that, we don’t even know what’s beyond the pipe breaking point in the family room as the camera was not able to go beyond the break. This is very disturbing as once they open up the ground, there’s no going back. There may be other pipe issues from the family room to the street that we don’t know about. We could end up needing to replace ALL of the underground pipes to the street! The guys says there are three guys in the company who’s full time job is to do video inspection of the line and often they are the bearer of bad news.

After he left, I was stressing out so I asked around for a plumber recommendation for a second opinion. Jimmy is the owner of Alpha Plumbing and is my sister’s neighbor. I explained the situation and he came at the appointed time with his assistant. He did a video inspection of the line and came to a stoppage about the same place as marked by the video guy from myplumber.com. Jimmy told me that he cannot make any conclusion based on what we saw on the monitor and snaked the pipe further with different snake head/length setting. More than an hour later, Jimmy cleared the blockage and the video camera had gone pass the mark, all the way toward the main drain. It turns out the so-called breakage in the pipe was nothing more than shoddy work (blockage in the pipe was never fully cleared) done by the previous plumber from myplumber.com.

At this point, I think myplumber.com should really refund our money for not properly clearing the blockage. If it was fully cleared, then the video guy would have not assumed the stoppage point of the video camera was a breakage. Also, this could have been avoided if they had the same guy doing both the clearing and the video inspection.

How do you like that for making more money for your company!

My Plumber Heating and Cooling takes your comment very seriously. However, without a name or an address to attach to your complaint we can’t formulate a plan of action to deal with the problem. We retain our video records for a time in order to review them and it is likely that we still have your video in our records.

Typically, multiple stoppage behaviors indicate the likelihood of something larger at fault. We would welcome the opportunity to re-inspect the line, with anyone of your choosing, to ensure that you have a proper and complete diagnosis.

Please contact me at wecare@myplumber.com with your name and telephone contact number and I will be happy to accommodate in a time most convenient for you.

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Price Gouging, Hidden Fees

@AZshine:

Sir, I understand that you may be acquaintances with the owners and that they may very well be wonderful people. Their social pleasantness doesn't change the fact that their business policies are ridiculous. Frankly, and I sincerely apologize if this offends you, but such a blatant third party "attaboy" for My Plumber just feels suspiciously like a paid shill attempting to do damage control. To be even more honest, I've had several weeks of perfectly hot showers to almost forget about the incident and this comment has only served to rekindle the flames of anger that I felt when my wife told me the result of the "diagnosis."

Again, I hope the best for your friends in life, but people need to be and will continue to be told about My Plumber's business practices before they get burned. And again, sorry if I offended you.

Cheers,
(almost) riptoff

Susan:

I spoke with your CSR the same day this happened. I was told that a manager would call me back the next day. That never happened.

It's good that you take this seriously. Perhaps in the future you should inform your potential customers of your prices UP FRONT, particularly the cost to even give you a work estimate. In the meantime, I will continue to inform everyone I know of your business practices. "Diagnosis fee" notwithstanding, charging $200 to change a single element and then another $300 on top of that to change a thermostat is extortion, pure and simple. The fact that this is being done in the winter time when people are freezing is unconscionable.

Respectfully and Sincerely,
riptoff99

I have known the owners of My Plumber in Virginia and San Diego for many years. I have never worked for them but I am a plumber with 32 years of experience and have the privlege of being able to call them friends. They are fine, upstanding people and want everyone within their organization to do right. Their Service Plumber may have screwed up or may be new and still doesn't fully understand the My Plumber systems. (Just guessing here.) Do yourself a favor and call them back. Believe me when I tell you the last thing owners want to hear is an unhappy client. I pity the person that works for them that does not do all they can to try to make the situation right. Customers are too hard to come by and keep today. They don't want to lose a single one. Right Mark?!

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Customer Svc

Called on 11/14 and made appt. for a quote on a new Furnace. They said someone would come out by noon the next day. Nobody showed so I called back and made an appt for 11/19 and they said someone would show between 12 -4 At 3:45 I called them and could tell from the rep that it wasnt scheduled. He said someone could still come out, but didnt know when. I asked if they could be there by 4, he responded "if not, we can reschedule" This is the worst customer service that I've dealt with in Heating / Plumbing. I will never recommend or use them again! I will also recommend to friends / family that they use another contractor. This is two days spent waiting on them and I had to deal with an imcompenent response of " we can reschedule" Unbelievable!

Mark:

Count your blessings, friend. My Plumber will overcharge for any service they perform. There is a reason why the dispatcher "doesn't have the price book" and can't tell you how much money you may be getting charged for a particular service. A $200 job will turn into $1000.

Consider yourself lucky to have avoided their $80 dispatch "thank you for coming to my house" fee and their $150 diagnosis "let me stand here and make a funny face while looking at this strange device in your house" fee. And lets not forget the "wow, those prices seem ridiculously high, but since I'm already in your pocket for $230, I might as well just bite the bullet and keep getting screwed.

Cheers,
riptoff

My Plumber Heating and Cooling Cost of service

The service was snaking a kitchen drain. The cost -- for a visit of 1 hour--was $371.54! Based on my research online, this is well above the highest costs in a range that starts at $90.

When I called for the service, I was told that the visit would cost $79, and tha that fee would be replaced by a standard cost for the needed service, once the service person could assess the problem.

The problem was simple--a clogged drain. The solution was a snake in the drain. The cost was a total rip-off.

The public should know about this, and I will do my best to broadcast this exorbitant pricing.
