MRI Overseas Property property

My name is hayley and have signed up and paid for a studio in Romania City Residence. We were contacted on Tuesday Advising us to meet up with the managing director in Cardiff on Thursday (yesturday) we went and were informed that it would not be in our best interest to buy in Romania. They wanted us to terminate our agreement and said that if we wanted to carry on with the development then they would build but the property would not be viable. They will not give us our money back (E, 40, 000) and have offered us another property in Bulgaria called Aspen Suites, but if we want this we ahve to pay a further 6, 000 euro's to hold the property. I have read really bad things about them and don't trust them. Are you aware of anyone else being in this siuation, any advice please. [protected]@hotmail.com

I believe the Marbella Office has gone into liquidation. Can anyone verify this? We paid over 15, 000 euros for our furniture package and now that our apartment in Cyprus is completed wanted to order the goods. However, over the last two weeks, I have been able to phone (number not available) and e-mails not answered. How do we get onto the Creditors' list?

Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. It took 9 months and multiple phone-calls/emails to finally get a name of someone responsible for the furniture packages. Try emailing variations of 'Wendy Mc Anthony' at variations of 'MRI/macanthonyrealty.com' etc, etc, then keep emailling ad infinitum. It may now be too late, as they seem to have pulled out of many countries, but it worked for me!

Unfortunately MRI are far too crafty and too much time has passed now for you to claim on your credit card. We also had the misfortune of purchasing our furniture from them for both apartments we had purchased. One set was delivered but what a disaster not what we had ordered at all - we purchased for €13K and what we got probably would have cost €3K - absolutely disgusting. Of course no-one acknowledges phone calls, emails, letters, faxes and to try and get a name is next to impossible. We still await delivery of the second batch - we do not hold out much hope. When we do manage to get through to someone at MRI they are so aggressive and refuse to put us through to anyone who can help instead telling us that all queries should be emailed! Frustration isn't the word.

If you paid by credit card, see if they will refund the money to you. Where did you buy.

Pure scam. MRI are as dodgy as they come. The Solrs in Cape Verde are just as bad. I have wrote to them on numerous occasions but as you can guess there was no reply, except for an email advising that we were obliged to transfer the remainder of the money or we were in breach of our contract, despite the fact they MRI have breached their contract by delaying completion of apartments for over 3 yrs.

If you are still in this position of not receiving your furniture pack which I am as well we are contacting bbc watchdog at the moment. Due to the late completiong of our apts we ave since been told that the furniture packs we paid for at £5, ooo each have become expired. This is apparently in terms and conditions that I have never seen. Laughable isn't it if it wasn't so distressing.

MRI Overseas Property Money scam

I've recently (August 2008) returned from a viewing trip to Bulgaria with MRI Overseas Property and I feel like I've been hustled. I was referred to MRI by a friend so I was expecting that it would be a reasonably comfortable experience.

I called MRI and had a professional and pleasant discussion with them to organise a trip to Bansko to look at some skiing property. The lady who helped organise the trip was very friendly and helpful, she organised flights and arranged for me to be met at the airport in Sofia. Notes of my budget and expectations were recorded and passed on specifically the requested I made about a cooling off period after the visit.

I arrived in Sofia and while there was nobody there initially to meet me I was not to worried I'm used to travelling on my own and so I'd made sure my mobile would work in Bulgaria and took contact details and telephone numbers fo the person I was supposed to be meeting. I called the lady back explaining that nobody was here to meet me, she made some enquiries and 30 minutes later a friendly Bulgarian man turned up with an MRI folder. We waited for two other people on a later flight and then set off for Bansko. So far so good.

After the trip I was delighted to be checked into the Kempinski Hotel. We were greeted by our MRI host (the salesman) for the weekend and taken to a nearby traditional restaurant for a meal. The meal was fantastic and soon we returned to the hotel having agreed to meet up after breakfast.

On Saturday morning the the salesman (Alan) went through the notes with me and explained that he had a bit of an issue with the fact that I had requested a cooling off period and that MRI was not into the business of subsidising peoples weekend trips away. I explained that I was serious about buying a place and that I'd rather be with my family. We discussed some figures and what I was looking for and I felt comfortable that we'd both been upfront and honest with each other so I was looking forward to a productive day.

Around lunch time we set off to view some properties and we (the other guys joined us) saw a number of properties near the kempinski to illustrate the poor quality of construction and the general chaos of this area. We were also shown the new Pirun appartments, the show home was closed and there was nobody to greet us or explain which appartments were available. We drove a bit more and headed out to 'the valley'. Now in the morning we were told about the valley being a winderful investment opportunity because of the golf courses being built in that area. This we were told meant a double income of rental (summer for golf, and winter for skiing). It was during this time I started to lose interest and confidence. I thought I'd been clear that I was after a ski property but here I was being shown golf appartments. In fact MRI built property projects. I was told that these sales guys had convinced many investors to buy in this area as it was bound to be a real solid investment. It was slightly intimidating, if these other people had bought multiple properties why would I doubt them!

After a stop for lunch I was pleased to be seperated from Alan and the other guys, I new my dispondent attitude by this time was becoming a risk for Alan to get his sale (later I was told by the Alan that I'd been rude). So another sales rep (Dave) met me and we had another frank talk. Now I'm normally quite patient but by this time I explained that I wasn't really here for golf. Anyway I was shown another few golf places (yet more MRI builds) and given a hard sell that this one appartment block would be a sure winner because it was on the main road before you arrive into Bansko. Great! Not near the slopes, the pretty town of Bansko, in the valley. The best I could compare it to was a travel lodge. We headed into another small village 'Razlog'. Now at this point I'd not been in Bansko village. In fact it seemed that we'd been encouraged away from the centre. The Kempinski is a good 20 minutes walk from the Bansko village centre so it wasn't until Sunday I got to see how wonderfully pretty it is. So as you can understand by mid afternoon Saturday after seeing a few golf places Razlog had some character, not much but some. Dave left me to myself to ponder and walk around. I met up a little while later and explained that I was having a problem accepting the golf based Valley appartments becuase it was not what I was expecting from the trip and needed a change of mindset. I asked to go up the valley to the area where there was more construction, to explore that area (I later was told that this area, actually within the golf park, was being developed by a developer that owed MRI a lot of money) so that's why we drove back to Bansko. We drove around some more properties in the chaotic area and I was disuaded from this area as a bad investment. I asked if there were more executive areas, nice areas, since I didn't mind paying a bit more than the going rate for something nice. By this time I was begining to think I'd wasted a weekend away from my family. These guys were clearly trying to push the MRI properties, they even explained that they had quotas to limit the number of properties they could sell to any individual becuase of the queue of other visitors due to arrive in Bansko. It was Dave's last day in Bansko and he left me at the hotel around 4 or 5pm.

Disillusioned I surfed the web. Not believing that my friend would have bought something that I'd been shown. I made a few calls and spoke to a local lady (Vanya) who agreed to meet me in 30 minutes or so and show me round some properties. Now by this time I felt intimidated by MRI and actually felt the need to ask Vanya to meet me somewhere other than the kempinski. You see MRI had several salesmen floating around on the 1st floor, the sales director was there and other customers, it was all very exclusive, but I felt the need to hide contacting another agency. So I met Vanya and she took me to see a fantastic set of appartments in the St Ivan area, a short drive from the gondola, up the Pirin Mountain with wonderful views of the village and surrounding area. This set of appartments was amazing. All I could say after the previous hours with MRI was WOW. I could believe that this appartment block would be something credible, something I could actually buy. We headed back to Vanya's office and had some discussions abuot prices and schedules. She was the opposite of pushy, let me know what schedule you would like, I'll make a discount for you (which worked out at around 1250 euro / m2). I walked into the village and had some thoughts about how to handle MRI the next day. I mentionned to the two guys I'd previous spemt some time with and they'd agreed to buy something for a quick turn-around, I'd mentioned I'd been to see something else and was now convinced that MRI were taking us for suckers.

I was apprehensive about meeting Alan in the morning, but sure enough I met him around 10am. We exchanged some feedback about Saturday and I was clear that I felt like I'd been taken for a run and that I was not here to look at golf places and that I understood that MRI had their own properties to sell but that I was not here for that. I was confronted with the "we've put you up in the Kempinski and taken you to lunch" and that I was not playing fair. They also found out that I'd met with Vanya which annoyed them, "did I not trust them", "why did I go behind their backs", "they did not pay for my trip for me to meet other agents". I exchanged a few harsh truths with Alan at which point he brought Sales Director (Malcolm) into speak to me to difuse the situation. I explained that I was not here to fight, that I was here to buy a place and that I'd felt like I'd been messed around. We agreed to put the past behind us and have a look at some places in Bansko. Now it felt like the tables had turned, that these guys were now trying to help me find a place I wanted. They found a place near the gondolas that looked interesting, they arranged to meet with the developer so I could get inside the building. Brilliant, some progress at last.

Alan and I walked round to this building to meet the developer. He turned up to meet us and tried to take us inside one of the three blocks. Now the developer guy did not speak english and Alan did not speak Bulgarian. I had been told that the appartment was in Block 1 and the developer guy was showing us Block 3. Alan called him a useless #@&$% and walked off (now who's rude!) towards Block 1. To be fair Alan was really trying to show me the right appartment but didn;t have the support from his team to work out which appartment was the correct one. I was told that the appartment should be 88.25 m2 facing up the mountain. We found an appartment that was at most 68m2 including balconies. So the interesting 1450 euro / m2 became a less interesting 1750 euro / m2. I was shown first floor up the mountain. Great! Despite the 68m2 I could see this as an investment worth making. I asked if Alan was sure it was 88m2 and if he was sure it was 1st floor. The numbering didn't seem logical for it to be on the first floor.

We returned to the Kempinski and I asked to see the floor plans so I could get confirmation of the floor area and that the appartment was indeed the one I'd physically seen. An hour or so later Malcolm and Alan had produced these plans but it did not include the one I was supposedly buying. The plans I was seeing were for 1st and second floors and did not include my appartment. So here we are Sunday evening and I've seen something that could work but I've got reservations about it being the right appartment. MRI were eager to take money off me and started offering me some extensions to the 10 day limit, offered me a 72 hours refundable deposit. The solictor was in the building (convieniently) and I was genuinely interested so I agreed that I'd put down the 3000 euro refundable deposit subject to 72 hours cooling off, and the confirmation of appartment location, and a draft copy of the Private Purchase Contract. I decided not to use the legal team provided by MRI, it all seemed too easy.

I returned to the UK all excited and 3000 euro lighter. I awaited for the plans and PPC. The plans were sent through on the Tuesday and not the Monday as promised. The floor area was about 64 m2 according to the plans and I exchanged a few emails with MRI trying to understand where the 14.25 m2 of communal area was located. The appartment faced a different way to the one I had been shown and was now on the 3rd floor. I looked closer at the plans and the shape of teh building corresponded better with Block 3 than Block 1. On the Wednesday I asked for further confirmation that the appartment was in Block 1 or 3. I had no reply but was still interested. I'd not yet receievd the PPC and I was still unconvinced of the location of the appartment. The email went cold. I copied Malcolm and the regional sales manager, but no reply! By Friday I phoned the contact centre and spoke to a lady who was in a priveledged position to help me becuase her team had 'special access' to Darragh MacAnthony and the Sales Director Malcolm. I explained that I'd lost interest and confidence that MRI knew which appartment it was selling me and that I wanted my refund based on our agreement. That was last week now and I've not yet heard anything. I contacted the legal guys 'legal-independent' as well and again I've heard nothing. So I feel like I've been hustled and wanted to write this hoping that it will help someone else avoid making the same mistake of using MRI Overseas Property.

Hi,

I'm not trying to Spam this post or anything I hasten to add it's just that I work for a company called CPC Holding.

My name's Samantha Roberts and CPC Holding is the company, we help throughout the UK and have recently had an enquiry about MRI here in the office which led to a good bit of research and it being added to our (very long) list of problem companies.

It seems that we're able to help in a lot of instances and I spoke to my boss and anyone who gives us a ring and quotes the complaints board we are prepared to give you guys a free no obiligation consultation...

I've been looking at the mess some of the people are in and it quite simply infuriates me.

It's our job to solve problems abroad and I think that there's a lot of members on here that we can help.

The company was formed out of being disgusted at the way some people have been treated in the past and how so many people feel lost in a minefield.

We spend everyday campaigning for clients and helping in any way we can. if anyone wants to ring us you're more than welcome to just have a chat because I can imagine a lot of people are really upset. [protected].

I truly hope we can help some of you.

Wow. Me and my parents have been scammed too. In 2006 we went to spain with MRI to look at property in Almiramar Spain. We were told that the development was almost sold out and that we needed to put our deposit in right away in order to secure the price. We were also promised that they would allow us to sell the units after we had the units in contract and paid the deposit. So long story short we put our deposit in of 100, 000 euros. Then we immediately ask to put the unit back on the market for what they promised buyers were buying the units for. Then MRI came back and said that we had to wait 6 months before we could actually sell our contracts. (This was never disclosed until after we wired our deposit for the units) By the time 6 months ended the market had changed completely and there were no more buyers. The story gets worse from here. We then were forced to purchase the units when the units were completed. We were also told when we put the deposit money down that if we were not able to sell them that we were for sure going to be able finance the properties and rent them out. By the time the units were completed the property had fallen to half the price we secured with our deposit. Now in order to finance the properties that we paid a 100, 000 euro deposit on we needed to come up with another 150, 000 euros otherwise we could not get a loan because the value dropped by so much. We have begged for our money back and ask for help many times from the local attorney's that are handling the development. They are now wanting us to come up with more money or they are going to take legal action to me and my parents for not fulfilling the contract..

Has anyone had any luck with a class action against MRI? THANKS FOR THE HELP

MRI Overseas Property - Fraud about Property in Italy

As a lot of you people in here I guess we were really screwed by MRI. We went to Calabria/Pizzo in march 2008 to look at some projects. We found our dream and went for it. We payd the 3, 000 euro deposit, signed contracs, etc... When we came home we transferred the 35% deposit for the property. A few months later we still had heard nothing! When I call...

MRI Overseas Property Italy - Sunset Tropea Phase II

Went on an inspection trip in August 2007, saw the plot for a 1 bed apartment (Sunset Tropea Phase II - Italy), I paid about 40k Euro for the deposit. Last week finally got the call to say no work has started (is supposed to be completed in July 2009). I couldn't make the meeting which was on Saturday 13 June and have heard nothing since and today came across this site which has now got me really worried! I had an insurance policy for the deposit which I thought I would get back as they work hasn't started and will not be complete, but my Italian lawyer has told me that 'the system of Bank guarantee of security bond does not exist in Italy' and the insurance on covers me if the developer goes bankrupt and the deposit was paid to the develop back in May 2008. Has any else had issues in Italy with MRI?

Any and all help appreciated.

Hi,
Almost the same happened to me in Pizzo, just a few miles from where you bought. We paid 53.000 Euros in deposit last easter. We didn't hear anything until january this year, when I called them to get status on project. Then I was told that they have pulled out of all project in Italy several months ago...

I asked now what, and was told that I was on my own, because the contract was with the constructor. They said that they would try to help me anyway. Called me the day after and said that they could get my deposit back, but I had to commit to use those money in a project in Losbon. We didn, t want that.

We have got a written confirmation from their lawyers telling that my deposit is still on their client account, and that we have the right to get all our money back. My lawier is now preparing to send the claim to them. So will time show if they still have the money...

MRI Overseas Property Scammed Out Of 13,000 euro

Hi,
I purchased two properties with MRI in the summer of 2006, i was a victim of the false selling by MRI. I paid way too much for my properties and now i am in negative equity of about 20% and rising. I was also lislead into purchasing both the rental marketing pacakges and the furniture packages with MRI, neither of which service i ever received. I am like many others in that i have made many attempts by email and telephone to get in contact with someone who may be able to help me get my money back, but without success. Like others MRI are now ignoring my emails and refuse to take my calls.
Surley there must be some law, or international law firm who can help all of us victims get our money back.

Denis.

I purchased a property from MRI in Romania in 2008. They assured me that I will get my mortgage and also lied to me that if I don't my deposit would be refunded back. I have almost lost over £50, 000. I tried contacting them, but was not getting nowhere. I later was contacted by MRI and an appointment was made for me to meet one of the senior management team. They were trying to sell another property in Bulgaria...which they were selling to me for double the price! Howver they made me believe that they were helping me, when instead they were profiting again. MRI have made over 30k euro in commission for mis-selling and lying to me.

Hi everyone
I also paid MRI for furniture which had not been delivered. My apartment in Bansko was completed in May 2009 and MRI are not replying to any correspondence. I have even been to Bansko but have still been unable to get any answers. How can a company take your money and then refuse to supply goods?

Hi All

We are exactly in the same position as everyone else above.

We were given the hard sell in 2006 and went ahead with the 50% on two apartments in Bansko... Bulgaria then pulled the mortgages and now we are struggling to get anywhere legally.

We also paid a large amount for so called furniture pack through MRI in Dec 2006 and like everyone else they now dont return calls, emails and refusing the refund this we even sourced storage but they just ignore everything.

Hi Same with us. The property is not finished (nowhere near it) and now they are threatening legal action via a lawyers called Gugushev and Partners from Sophia to forgo all the monies we have paid (£20k+++) I suspect that MRI are going bust. They do not answer any direct questions and I am beginning to think the law company recommended for the property purchase by MRI works in 'concert' with them.

hello we have also reserved a property in calabria with MRI and are now out of pocket for the deposit paid in 2007.

what did your lawyers say about the situation?

thanks for posting the details of the website about the MRI action group, ill check it out tonight

i was using the lawyers recommended by MRI (legal factory) but now one of our friends recommended another firm of lawyers who are independent from them and the builders, these new lawyers represent a lot of people who are buying in calabria

they have written to MRI that - if we dont get the money back by 30 July - they will file a claim at court for double the deposit. apparently they have already issued other claims against MRI and legal factory in calabria, do you think that legal action is the best option?

if you want to stay in touch, my email is dallasmark@hotmail.co.uk

MRI Overseas Property - Scammed by MRI

Hi. MRI did a hard-sell on us to purchase 2 properties in Bella Vista in Morocco in 2007. The properties were scheduled to complete in January 2010. MRI claimed that the Developer was reputable. They supplied the socilitors. Over the last 1.5 years, they went silent on us. Last weekend (14th June), they invited us the Hilton Hotel at the NEC in...

MRI Overseas Property Cape Verde properties

We purchased in cape verde on Sal 2008.In May 2009 were told to attend a meeting .To be told we had lost our money .Sum total of 43, 000 euro. The MRI then suggested that we could roll the moneyover onto another property in Bulgaria meaning they would discount the Bulgarian property by 43, 000 euros. informing us that there was only 4 one bedroomed apartments left and would be gone by the end of the day.iWhich at the time seemed like a good idea to save losing the money paying a resevation fee of 6, 000 euros. We returned
home after doing research and talking to a solictor realized we had made a mistake and been conned by the MRI as we are still in a contract with the Cape verde builder and should not have been pressurised into doing this.We asked the MRI for our reservation fee back but they have refused

Further to my previous post we have to qualify the terms of a credit card claim: the UK Section 75 will not cover the claim if the whole amount of the product purchased is over £30, 000. We were looking at ways to get around using section 75 - especially in Eire where UK legislation is not applicable.
It seems that every card issuer there applies it's own rules and, of course, they are not very forthcoming in providing the information we have requested. Even the clients, themselves, have found it difficult to get the relevant information from the banks. Jury is still out on this situation, I'm afraid, but we will let everyone know if anything changes.

To anyone paying reservation fees using their credit cards or Visa debit card - if MRI or your Estate Agent refuses to pay you back, put in a claim against your card company. If you're not sure how, get in touch and I'll send you a claim form.

Hi,

The same happened to us it Italy/Pizzo. We paid 53.000 Euros in deposit for our apartment in Easter 2008. We didn't hear anything until January this year when I called them to get status.
Then I was told that MRI has pulled out of all projects in Italy several months ago.
They couldn't help me because our contract was with the constructor, not with MRI. They called me the day after and said that they could help me after all. They could get my deposit back, but then I had to commit to use thos money in a project in Lisbon, and of course pay a fee for this.
We didn't want that, and contacted cosumer help in Norway. They contacted consumer help in Italy, who contacted the lawyers wich MRI used. They said that the deposit was on their client account and that we were entiteled to get all our money back. The project in Lisbon was just ment as an extra service to us! What at lot of crap!

Our lawyer is now preparing our claim to the lawyers, but I don't have much hope to get my money back.

MRI Overseas Property Terrible experience

MRI overseas property is traping small ivestors into their overseas property scam since last three years. Unfortunately, we did not investigate the background of this company when we went on an inspection trip to Bansko, Bulgaria. We had no idea that this developer MRI, financial adviser CFP, and solicitors Legal Independence belong to the same/one mafia group. We were very naive in believing them and made a very wrong deceision of buying an appartment in Silver Mountain of plan development. All of these three companies completely misled us about the property value, resale opportunities, rental opportunities and the availability of mortgage in Bulgaria. Banks were not giving new mortgages to foreigners a that time but they traped us in believing that they have mortgage arangements with a local bank for that development. Now we can not get mortgage and risk loosing 45000 euros we have paid to MRI.

MRI is trying to blackmail us and to force us to remortgage our house in UK and pay for the final payment of that apartment in Bansko. We can very easily arrange that money but as we have lost all the trust on MRI, we are not risking paying any more money.

We have faith in European justice system and believe we can get back some of our very hard earned money from MRI. This is not easy and s taking a lot of our time and resources.

We made this mistake but warn others to stay away from MRI, Legal independence, Capital Financial Partners, DCC and all of their associates.

I was contacted by MRI in August 2008 late in the evening 22h00 saying they had a cheap investment trip for properties I had checked on the internet only 2hrs before (how they got my Tel number and name I w'll never know) They booked us on a trip to Cyprus for 4 days and although the flights cost us more than expected we were assured we will get a refund of the difference on arrival.

A very nice Russian lady wellcomed us at the airport, we were taken to MRI office the following day they made an excuse for the refund that we would get it before departure. We were show different "off plan"properties and were assured we only had to pay a 10%deposit and nothing to pay till completion. We were told it was a very good investment and MRI will take charge of rental and resaling process.

I was told that since the property would not be completed for at least 22 months, I would easily be able to resell the property during this time - and they would resell the property.

We decided to put a deposit for a studio in a Spa/Golf complex. We were taken to Paschalis developper and put down 5000euros, then taken to a sollicitor Miss Lemoniati, saw her financial adviser who told us we will definitely get a mortgage and the agrement within 2 weeks, we only had to show we could pay the intiial 10% of this property and if we could not get a mortgage from the bank we will definetely get our deposit back.

We had no idea that this developer MRI, financial adviser, and solicitors belong to the same/one mafia group. We were very naive in believing them and made a very wrong decision of buying an appartment

Following the financial adviser advice, in order get a mortgage we paid the developper 10000euros plus 3000for solicitors fees into tje sollicitor bank account.

Since that time in September 2008 and after so many telephone calls, we were told the bank had changed their policies for giving out mortgages, and we had to wait .

After contacting MRI in Spain they assure me if I did not get the mortgage, my deposit will be refunded even after a year.

In October 2009 we were finally told the banks would not give us a mortgage and we were proposed to buy a cheaper property.
I tried to talk to the sollicitor Lemoniati with no success as I tried to get my deposit back.

It now seemed to me that all that was a big Con, I don't know were to turn, who to contact to stop these people and get my money back.

If you had the same experience in Cyprus or kn0w who to contact in England please contact me claudinedanzer@yahoo.co.uk

I, too, have had a bad experience with MRI. I first approached them at an overseas property exhibition in Cardiff, Wales in 2005. I was informed by one of their property advisers of the great gains that could be made when investing in property in the Dominican Republic. I was told that since the property would not be completed for at least 18 months, I would easily be able to resell the property during this time - whether after, 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 months after the original purchase - and that they were the ones who would resell the property.

After putting down a deposit of $60k (with $90k to pay upon completion), I was sent regular emails, informing me that the maket value of the property was now x amount higher. After about a year, I informed the Dominican office that I wanted to sell the property (at a supposed market value of over $200k). I was told to wait since values were going up all the time. Initially I believed this advice since I trusted the company. However a short while later I contacted them again with the same request, to resell the property - however I would be prepared to negotiate a better rate han $200k. Again I was advised to wait, however they would nevertheless try to resell the propety. Months went by, with me contacting them, however I was told various reasons why they had not resold the property (the wrong season, buyers wanted to see the completed property - even one buyer who was adamant he wanted to buy, however fell sick and changed his mind).
I even said I would drop the price to the original price - $150k to get a quick sale, however they were unable to do this - even though upon completion of the property in June 2008, I was sent a congratulatory email that my property was valued at $250k.

I did look into trying to secure a mortgage, however since the rules and regulations seemed to be very opaque regarding this - and also variable, dpending on who I spoke to, I did not go ahead with this.

I was informed of a local lawyer who could act as intermediary with the developer, after MRI backed away, and he suggested sending a payment plan. I sent him one for a 4 year repayment and another a 3 year - both with considerable interest amounts.

He said that the first one was not accepted by the developer, and since sending the second one I have been unable to reach him.

I have spent most of the last year wondering if it is worth going all out to pay the outstanding amount, if I have a case in retrieving the $60k or if there is an alternative solution.

Any help/comments/ideas - please email me: philwizard@gmail.com

Apparently Silver Mountain Resort in Bulgaria has no building license and never will. When i found out what MRI were doing i left the company and contacted the newspapers... Also DCC has all the staff from MRI and also one of the directors is Wendy McAnthony.. Strange that... Take care all

My husband and I bought a furniture package for our apartment in Sal, Cape Verde from MRI back in September 2017. Also friends of ours have had the misfortune to do the same. They hounded us with phone calls advising us to buy from them and not from Tecnicil who are the developers of the apartment we bought. Now it seems Tecnicil will not allow us to join their rental programme because we have not bought from them. But apart from that we are not very hopeful of ever getting this furniture package which by the way cost us around 20, 000 euros. We have emailed and phoned an infinate number of times to try and find out when we will be in possession of our package. They say that as only a few clients have completed on their apartments it would not be viable to ship the packages over to Sal until they have at least 25%. We would love to hear from anyone who has also had the misfortune to get involved with this 'company'!

To give you a warning with regards to your furniture package, I would demand they supply your furniture package now as we have just been told that due to the development we have invested in completing late our furniture package has expired. They may be stalling to achieve this with you. They claim this s in the terms nad conditions which I have never seen.L Do not let these con artists get way with this. You have paid, demand they supply it even if it means you store if yourself..

MRI Overseas Property Scammed me for 3000 euros

She was the opposite of pushy, let me know what schedule you would like, I'll make a discount for you (which worked out at around 1250 euro - m2).

So the interesting 1450 euro - m2 became a less interesting 1750 euro - m2.

I'm one of the 2 other guys you mention...I still can't believe I found this posting of yours, the world is so small ! Interesting to read how the rest of your weekend & adventure transpired.

From our side, we also found the Customer service wanting, and decided to pull out after the financial crisis swept. We lost our 30% deposit, but it was still a fun weekend.

What are you up to these days?

Hi just picked these threads up having placed my own complaint elsewhere on the site yesterday. Webought a property through MRI off an allegedly independant builder and there is nothing to suggest otherwise to date that he is just than that. Albeit a little slow, two years on at least the roof's on, ' siga, siga' (slowly slowly) apparently!
If were conned and I've every reason to believe we were that is in respect of having bought into the 'MRI Lifetime Aftersales'. We were promised regular updates/photos of progress, meet and greet and once the property was complete the completion of a 'snagging' visit. whilst it would be difficult to complete the latter we have been unable to maintain communication with the MRI Cyprus officeas the staff were forever changing.
Having travelled over last year we visited the office and met with a new manager who appeared very genuine and from his manner obviously was wondering what he had taken on. Not surprisingly he's no longer there!
He did his best, especially considering any record of our original visit andpurchase had vanished.
I'm back across next week to check out whats occurring. Sadly what was a dream is turning into a nightmare, not helped by falling property values here in the UK. In hindsight we should have resisted diving in with both feet. Chris

MRI Overseas Property HIDDEN CHARGES

To whom It May Concern

Clients using MRI furniture packages please be aware, I Brought an Apartment with MRI at the time when the market was strong. The complex was recently completed, and the furniture was paid in full over two years ago, They are now asking for 20 per cent more before they will install Claiming this is a Goventment Vat which
is fair enough, But surely this amount should of been put on the invoice at the time, How many clients have paid for there furniture then to be told to pay the extra cost, other wise they will not install ! Not only that, they also refuse to reply to my emails, Like to hear from anyone in the same situation.

I hate MRI! I have had nothing but problems from them. including CFP who have taken my 500 euros but have not provided me with a mortgage and are refusing to refund my money! I am now struggling to get a mortgage because of the economic down turn even though my wages are ten times the amount they need to be to get the mortgage.
I also paid for a furniture package two years ago and have recently been sending emails to MRI to see when they will fit it but no-one replies to me at all! I have contacted Barrie Keeling the sales man who persuaded me there was an urgent need to buy it but it seems his email address is no longer availbale. I have no after sales contact despite paying God knows how much for that non existant service for the last two years - any have any idea what number is best to call or preferably email address to try and get my furniture installed asap? Also does anyone know a good agency to use to try and rent the flat in bansko out, only there is no way i want to pay MRI for any more non existant services, i am so mad so many people have been so badly let down by these people. Yet they are still trading and ripping others off and there seems there is nothing we can do?

My email address is charlene.mcquoid-guess@adminre.co.uk

Thank you
Charlene

They are not responding to my e-mails does anyone know if MRI are still trading or have they gone bankrupt. I think I have lost my money.

They also installed the wrong furniutre in the other studio

We have bought two properties on the Silver Mountain Complex in Bulgaria and are completely dissatisfied with MRI, we have not yet paid the final payment. Our issues are
1) We were told that financing the balance via a Bulgarian mortgage was a formality, now the time has come a Bulgarian mortgage is not available. If we fund from the UK the exchange rate adds 30% to the final payment
2) We were led to expect growth of up to 30% prior to completion, in reality there has been no growth whatsoever in fact the appartment is probably wort less than half the purchase price.
3) Legal independance is not I believe independant.

There are many other points and issues to raise, does anyone else feel the same or has had simmilar problems?

Hi we are in the exact same position regarding the furniture package for an apartment we bought in Bulgaria. I found this link on the following website

http://investmentpropertyrumours.blogspot.com/2009/03/vat-is-going-on-in-bulgarian-furniture.html

This webpage actually shows the original webpage from the MRI website which has since been removed but which clearly states the following:

"The emphasis is on creating packs that include absolutely everything from cleaning to VAT to give you an apartment you can walk straight into - with NO hidden charges. We strongly recommend organising a furniture package well in advance of completion."

I think it is a disgrace that they are now charging for "VAT" and incl a "hidden charge"...

Anybody have any thoughts on what can be done...in general people seem to be paying the additional fee and getting their furniture installed...disgrace all the same...

We too have have had endless trouble with MRI in the purcahse of our properties as we have bought two properties in Bulgaria. After paying for the furniture package about two years ago and which has not yet been installed MRI are asking for an extra 20% VAT which amounts to another 1400 EURO. They have said that unless we pay it the furniture will not be installed. Hence we cannot spend our holidays in the property or rent it out.

I am very reluctant to pay any more money to MRI as I have heard rumours that they are going bankrupt.

Although I don't think this is legal for MRi to charge us extra now. Can anyone advise if they have paid the extra money and if the furniture was actually installed.

Like everyone else I too paid for furniture via MRI aftersales. MRI are refusing to install the furniture unless I pay an additional 20% for Vat. They are also refusing to return the money. My apartment is ready but I cannot let it out or even se it for my own holiday as it remains unfurnished . Has anyone apid up or managed to get their money back?

MRI Overseas Property cheating/false advertising/lies

After I responded to an e mail from the mri overseass property advertising for £99 trip to Florida including flight and accommodation to show their clients fantastic opportunity to invest in properties.

Following that e mail I was called may be at least 20 times by a lady called Amanda insisting and encouraging me for the trip. she insisted that all it would cost me would be £99. she told me that the accommodation would be free and would be organized by the company but I have to get the flight then they refund me the cost of the flight minus £99.

they told me that there was no obligation to buy any properties. eventually I decided to accept their offer when I arrived in Orlando a representative was waiting for me. Althogh I was very tired at arrival she took me to visit some properties, then when It got too dark she took me to Marriot Hotel. when we arrived the receptionist asked for my credit card. I told her that I was a gust of Mri properties., the representative and the receptionist both told me that they knew that but the only reason they wanted my credit card was that if I used any other extra services such as meals, drinks etc. I was fooled and gave her my credit card.

the next day she took me to their office I spend hours talking to their mortgage adviser, management team cannulating team etc. Following that they took me to see lots of houses, apartments etc. during our visit the representative was exteremly forceful, telling me that I should buy one of the proprieties and I should call my wife to ask for her approval.

after visiting all of their properties and doing my research I realized that it was not a good investment and buying a property would not bring me any income and I might loose some money. I decide not to buy any properties.

despite their promise not only they refuse to refund me for the flight when I received my credit card statement later they had charged me for the accommodation as well. I contacted the Hotel, they toldme that was not the fist person complaining about this issueand it was a common occurrence.

Mri overseas propertied is run by lots of con artist, they con people in a very organized and well planned manner.

Please do not be fooled by them like me. I am sure an organization like this would go bankrupt very soon, god riddance

I did work for these people once, but never again... I was a professional sales person who got sucked into the glamour and money as I could be working for (a/the) largest overseas property company in europe.

the interview was held in london. I was told that day, I got the job and to fly to spain as soon as I could. i would be picked up by the local sales representives, given accomadation for my stay.. then be trained and sent to my first of many destinations. I mean they did have there own TV station with the sister of the boss being the presenter. the boss also owns a football club in one of the leagues in england.. it all sounded really great, as I was told I'd work three to four days a week, be my own boss, time manage myself and get good financial rewards. so i quit my financial service job and sold all my furniture and made plans to move...

I was picked up as promised, given a comfortable place to stay. i met all the newbies and went to the head office for the training.. once in we were told how great they were and that they had propery developments all over europe, met the mortgage managers, tele- operations manager, sales manager etc...

all the newbies including myself were given company contracts which we had to sign and return, no copies would be given to us... one guy did ask. we were all asked to come into the office in the next morning for our interview.. which really set off alarm bells, for me.. I mean I had signed and seen my employment contract before leaving my last job...

next morning all the representives were sitting in the entrance of the office waiting.. two hours later we're asked to go away as the sales manager had not arrived yet... ok? so off for coffee... that afternoon we all met up and in we went. the guy who asked for a copy of the contract he signed was told he was not needed! I was very nervious now as like myself he had given up his employment to come over and start a new job..

well we were interviewed and then told where we were going..

I can't say where I went, but it started out alright... but then after more training (basic) I found out the mortgage manager was not really qualified in any country... and that the independent mortgage company was NOT independent... the mortgage manager would come to us after they had interviewed the customer and tell the reps and managers what the financial situation was with the customer and if they were going to invest or what buttons to push... next i found out the legal team was not really a lawyer but a legal secretary and again not independent...and any info again was passed on. still later i found out that they had not even spoken to the local banks about mortgage funding for customers or what rates to use.. I mean here I was explaining to customers the feature and benefits and giving figures. which i now believe were made up.. then I found out the plans were not approved and there was no building perms for their own properties and this one blew me away even more, but no one new for sure where the property was being built.. i mean the reps, the managers all pointed in different directions in the general area... all had different answers..

then the stories of how to screw the customer came out and how the company would screw the emplyee by holding back commisions and more unbelievable stuff... I would not have believed this if it had not happened to me...

I got out ASAP and I am disillusioned and disgruntled that a company like this can operate in the E.U what about the laws protecting people and their financial assets... all those fat cats in brussels...

We have been suckkered in by these sharks also. We went on an inspection trip in April 2008 to Turkey. During this time we purchased off plan, a property in the Tuzla area. Oliver the sales rep was very charming and also arranged solicitors for us
(situated in the offices next door to the MRI offices) Our apartment was due to be completed November 2009. We paid a total of 23000 GBP.
earlier this year I tried to chase up promises of being sent photos and updates on the project, only to find out that the offices in Turkey have all been closed. Eventually I managed to get hold of someone through Email, who in January, said that the project next door was coming up for completion and that everything was starting on our complex. A photo of the cleared land accompanied this information.
About a month ago we chased them up again, this time we received a photo of our complex with phase 1 in the process of being built.
We were called to a meeting yesterday, with MRI, (having to have a day off work and travel 50 miles to) to be told that we will lose ALL of our money because the builder is going bankrupt.
As a gesture of their goodwill (not) we were 'offered' either a place in america (don't know where) for around another 200, 000 or a tiny studio in Bansko ski resort. HILARIOUS spot the difference Turkey with its hot sunny climate and chilled back lifestyle, or Snow Ski and concentration camp style one room accommodation. We were not happy. We were even more upset when we were told that they could only offer us this new deal for THAT DAY ONLY. We know nothing whatsoever about ski-ing or the resort of Bansko so why would we agree to spending even more money without doing any research first!
Not only that but we also had to secure the deal by giving them a further 6000 euros there and then. ( we don't make the habit of keeping 6k in our back pockets!)
By this time we were feeling steamrollered and we felt intimidated being trapped in a Hotel conference room, just ourselves with two 'suits' interviewing us
going over the same things and telling us did we want to walk away with nothing. After nearly THREE hours of this interrogation style meeting we got up to leave as I said we were going round in circles to which one of their 'directors shouted 'OFFER WITHDRAWN'.
How can they get away with messing with people's lives. We weren't buying as an investment we were buing to live out there. All our plans are spoiled as well as now being robbed.

I have been in bansko many times and every single time i have visited i have met people who have had very bad experiences with MRI, from buying furniture, then being told that the furniture was wrong for their apartment, and mri would change it at no extra cost and in truth the new furniture they would be getting was worth way less then the origanal package agreed, and sorry we didnt add the vat on so now you owe us an extra 20%, like a year later they want to charge then for vat on their furniture package.
another very sad story, recently i met a couple who bought in cape verde off MRI, that development went belly up, and they were told they would be losing their money 40, 000gbp, because it wasn't anything to do with MRI but the builders, then they where told out of the goodness of their hearts mri would let them put the 40, 000 towards another purchase, not of there choice they could have one in bansko near the golf course, or in portugal. the one in bansko is a studio priced at 96, 000 euros, the one in portugal is over 200, 000 euros.
these poor people dont want eitheir, but are in a dilema... loose their money or pay more for a overpriced studio in bansko which wont be ready till may 2010.. if it's ready then.
no one i met who have bought of MRI have had a good experience espically in bansko...
and now ex mri employees are selling in bansko under the company name DCC...
So beware...

An undercover investigation giving a behind the scenes insight into the international property company MacAnthony Realty International. Jonathon Maitland talks to customers who feel their investments didn’t live up to what they were promised.

One customer says she was sold an apartment on a development she was told would be Frontline Golf, but she later discovered another building had sprung up between her development and the golf course. She also says she was told she would have access to the nearby golf course but later learnt it was exclusive to another development.

Another client tells Tonight he was told by a sales rep for MacAnthony Realty that he would make more than 30, 000 euros in just 18 months on his investment in an apartment in Spain. He says the rep also told him specific facilities including three golf courses would be built nearby but these never materialised.

But four years have passed and he is struggling to rent it out. Regardless of potential increase in paper valuation he has been unable to sell it. He is worried he won’t be able to keep up on his mortgage payments.

As part of the programme Tonight sends a reporter undercover to MRI’s offices in Spain to experience training as a telemarketer for the company. She gets an interesting behind the scenes insight.

MRI Statement

"MRI Overseas Property is by far the most recognised and respected name in our industry with over 25, 000 satisfied customers, none of whom was asked to take part in this programme.

MRI categorically deny that we deliberately misrepresent facts or that we resort to hard sell tactics. All our clients visit the countries we offer properties in and have opportunities to see for themselves everything that is available.

There are many people who have purchased properties as investors and speculators who suffered because of the downturn in the global economy. MRI are sorry for their predicament but we cannot accept responsibility or blame for their actions. Even so, MRI has a proven track record of going beyond its obligations to assist clients who may find themselves in difficulty.

98% of our clients are buyers of holiday homes for themselves and their families and are delighted with the services MRI provides and the support we continue to give.

MRI is proud to offer the very best in overseas property and thank all our clients who have given their 100% support to our organisation."

MRI Overseas Property rental service

As with other complainants I paid 1760 Euros for the MRI after sales rental package and received nothing in return. I bought an apartment in Cyprus in November 2008 but MRI no longer have offices there. I have tried contacting them without success and a Spanish Abrogado has informed me that there Spanish HQ offices are now empty. I would love to hear from others who have attempted to get their money back. I hear that any complaints about the company are rapidly removed from the internet via their team of solicitors. Beware!

Lawyers are paid to do two things:

The case in Spain has been thrown out now due to lack of jurisdiction according to the newspapers today.

Michael Salter, Michael Costello and other ex MRI management are now behind the PPI reclaim company Aims and pension switching firm Forensic Review. They are based in El Rosario, Marbella, Spain. Salter can still be heard boasting about how he was the man who set up and ran the rentals and furniture pack division in one of the biggest property companies on the Costa del Sol. Never mind the fact that most of the people who handed over their hard earned cash never received anything for it!

Hi all! Myself and a friend are having the same problem with furniture i have purchased from MRI roughly 2 years ago. They asked for an extra 20% VAT for the furniture as they said it had been 'overlooked'. After referring them to emails they had sent us at the time stating clearly that there were 'no hidden charges or additional extras' they just referred us to a clause at the bottom of the letter. My friend has paid the extra 20% VAT which i was against him doing. Now legal Independance (solicitors) have just emailed him saying that they want 600 euros in order to sue MRI for breach of contract concerning the furniture, which is an absolute joke as it seems they are both in this togther! Reading-between-the-lines sounds like MRI are trying to raise money and it wouldnt surprise me if it was for the original furniture package itself as they have probably used the original monies. Also their rental arm has stopped trading and a company called (off-the-top-of-my-head: 'property solutions') has been asked by MRI to take over all rentals. They are asking for 195 euros admin fee lol! Does anyone have any information concerning the furniture and has anyone got their money back or received their furniture? Also does anyone know if anyones taking legal action? Im seriously thinking of just sorting out my own furniture and getting another company independant of anyone involved with MRI to do the rentals and after looking into it most don't charge 'admin fees'. Any info concerning furniture or rentals would be gratefully received!

Hi Jools, thanks for the info about www.mri-sg.org - have registered on their forum. In fact, I have now registered on 3 forums, because there seem to be huge numbers of dissatisfied mri customers out there, and individually we seem to have no success, and I think it is always public pressure that gets results. I have contacted the European division of the Trading Standards dept for advice, (they are very much aware of MRI) - I am receiving no response to e-mails to MRI so next step is to send a registered letter to their Head Office in Spain. I know we are being systematically "fobbed off" and the more it happens the angrier I get. I can pass on address etc for Trading Standards, but am not sure what info we can actually put on this forum, and I know from another forum that some of their comments are being read by MRI people, and "pose" as satisfied customers! Has anybody contacted Watchdog, or any other consumer bodies? Until MRi put this furniture pack in, we cannot sell or rent. About this furniture pack, were you advised before purchase of the numerous "get out" clauses MRI are now quoting - all we have is a tiny sentence at the bottom of the order form which states "terms and conditions available at www.lifetimeaftersales.com/furniture/index.asp - in other words they do not put the clauses on the order form, but merely give you a website to contact to obtain them! Can you imagine any other organisation getting away with this?

MRI Overseas Property Misleading information /lies

MRI Overseas Property's staff in Cyprus showed me several properties. As I found them all too expensive comparing to their good prices on their website, she decided to show me an off plan appartment reduced by 20, 000 euros from 145, 000 euros to 125, 000 euros. It also only needed a 10% deposit on purchase and a further 10% on completion. She told me that the ground floor would be composed of garages and the appartments would start on the first floor. She showed me the sea view, the garden view and an appartment completed with kitchen and appliances. She told me that the management charges were so low in Cyprus that I did not need to worry about them.

I went last week in Cyprus to view the property and it does not represent anything that I was told. Level 1 is not the first floor as indicated by MRI's representative, it is the ground floor. Instead of having a sea view and a garden view, I have a view over a road and some houses. The kitchen does not include appliances. I should have read the contract better! The management charges represent three months of rent. It is a disaster...

I have offered the buyer my 12, 500 euros deposit to retract from the contract, but they have not accepted my offer yet. What can I do? The property is unsellable and unrentable as it is facing a road.

Can anyone help me? Have you had a similar experience?

Myself and my wife had saved liked crazy in better financial times back in 2006 and were in the fortunate postion for the first time in our lives to invest in a overseas property to use as a holiday home for us and our three boys to go to now and again and rent it for the rest of the time and maybe have a asset to pass on to our children later on.We purchased off plan an apartment reccomended by MRI as the best investment in Spain at the time as it was not only a new build but a new up and coming resort with amazing facilites. We feel for there charms and trusted the sales people to the point we took one out for dinner on our trip over there. After some time being put under pressure we agreed to purchase the new build with completion in two years. We parted with 55, 000 euros and were taken to there recommended solicitors(Martinez Echevarria)and were told its normal to sign power of attorney over to the solicitors. The build was late completing by over a year and the resort it was built in had become a run down ghost town with no businesses left and even no taxi rank as there was no one in the resort.we complained that we had been miss-sold to and MRI convinced us to pull out that development and buy off plan in portugual then they would take catre of all legal obligations in Spain. We had major reservations but after several meetings with there managing director we were assured we were doing the right thing. We were pressured into parting with a further 50, ooo euros and told the build would start in six months.two days after transfering the money to Martinez Echevarria solicitors in Portugual, we recived an email from them informing us of reservations they had with MRI not signing a licenece in time and we should pay them a further 4000 euros to defend our case and take legal action against MRI which could take two years to recover our money.Basically we are now 105, 000 euros short(our whole life savings)with nothing to show for it except a possible legal fight in spain because surprise surprise mri did not pay any of our legal fees to defend us in spain.Anyone who can advise or help us please get in touch.

The same happened to me in Cyprus in September 2008 I put down a deposit of 5000euros for a property, then 10000euros to prove I can pay the 10% deposit on the property to get a mortgage only to know 1 year later no bank would give me a mortgage and contrary as what I was told that I would get a refund of my deposit, I was told now it is not the case and I am answerable for the 90000euros remaining to pay for the property. I tried to contact MRI Spain they told me they cut all contacts with Cyprus and are no longer in the contry, the solicitor and financial adviser don't waqnt to answer my calls and the developper proposed me a smaller property which I don't want.

We should get together to make MRI answerable for their SCAM and try to get our money back

Totaly agree with all comments I payed mri deposits on two appartments with the promise of full support and a garantee of a morgage only to be refused the full amount of morgage when I tryed to contact mri about this matter no one would answer my calls, when i tryed to cancel the agrement no one would call me back, untill the time it was acording to mri too late to cancel, I have lost a total of £45, 000 on all these fulse promises and are now in breach of contract and mri are trying to sue me for the outstanding amount. Couldn't agree more about the comments regarding MRI. We had the misfortune of dealing with them - lying, cheating, thieving so and so's! They took refundable deposits from our account and when we cancelled the aftersales contract they kept the "refundable" deposit of €400 as an admin fee!

We were never able to speak to anyone...unless you went through to new sales when there was no problem getting through!

Would strongly recommend you never EVER even consider involving yourselves with the like of MRI.

My wife and myself also purchased property via MRI in Cyprus. However the person with whom we dealt we believe to be honest (so much so he was fired shortly after our visit) and the builder responsible for the development has been first class (Andreas Georghiou) in keeping us up to date with pictorial evidence of progress. No problem with finance via Alpha Bank either. We took out an after sales package costing £420. which was supposed to provide assistance when we made progress visits to Cyprus. Of course nothing has happened as far as MRI are concerned. When we tried to contact them regarding a visit in May of this year, no reply. We eventually made contact with a Greig Obeney in Spain whose e-mail reply to us can best be summarised as 'tough, you are on your own'. When we suggested a refund was in order because of their non performance he quickly advised us he was unable to comment on 'legal matters'. What can one say other than to warn others never to deal with such a disreputable company trading as either MRI or DCC. Funny isn't it to see DCC operating from the old MRI offices in Chlorakas and dealing in the same old way. But then I forgot, they are one and the same but deny it!

I used to work for them, so did my husband
they are disguisting, so much so that we both left the company along with hundreds of others on a weekly basis! we are decent people who will not lie to people for money, well i say money thats if you are lucky and get paid. I would advise anyone to avoid MRI like the plague.
DCC international property is the new name for the company, it is the same owner, same staff, same offices, just a different name. The company CFP worldwide is the mortgage company they push on you, CFP office is in MRI office lol they share desks with MRI staff and give out your personal details when you ask for financial information which is supposed to be private, well its not!
I would not trust any Real Estate company that is registered in Spain, you basically have no rights if something goes wrong and you get ripped off. If you can speak spanish you can make a complaint to the courts but it wont really get you anywhere as the judges are paid very poorly and will accept backhanders from companies such as MRI.

Hi Alison

we have started to combine groups now and are collecting people's stories and statements of their experience with this company, CFP and the solicitors legal Independence. We are all people who are going through the same ordeal. There is a member who has worked very hard to recognition from their MP and MEP. These in turn are contacting the OFT and others.

Anyone else who feels lost in this, please get in touch and add your story to help prove there are many people who have been misled by these companies.

It is called the MRI Support group.

MRI Overseas Property fraud

In oct 04 we put a deposit of $70, 500 on a pre construction villa in orlando .This villa has not been built .Mri assured us the firm Platinum Properties led by its ceo David weiker was a reputable and established builders and our money was safe.Mri led us to believe they were acting for us as we visited one of there road shows in the Uk, they now say that they are a transactual broker who only introduce clients.Platinum properties have filed for banckrupcy chapter 11 and David weiker has been arrested for fraud but Mri who received 20% of our deposit for telling us we had to put down 20% depositon the on villa not 10% have retained there commission even though there closing directer Michael Ellis said they would only get payed when the contract closed.
We were also advised by there broker Russell Pierce to invest in acondo hotel called Lake Bueno Vista Resort Village and Spa he said we would not have to close on the property as he would sell on before it was built this again was not true we had to close on the property or lose our deposit. Mri received a commisson in excess of $30, 000 and refused to take any responcibillity for there brokers action or statements. Apparantly Russell Pierce was also arrested and convicted of fraud in an unrelated issue but we were advised he had just moved on.
