I am another 'victim' of this horrible scam. I am presently unemployed, ill and broke -- and in receipt of a cheque for $3200 US. I did deposit the cheque but have since advised my bank to stop processing. Sure enough, I just received an e-mail telling me to borrow the money until the cheque clears and send him the $$, less #320 and Western Union fees. I am incensed but am glad to know that this kind of forum exists to educate others about this sick stuff.

Dear Talaat Faramawy Mahmoud,

I want to inform you that your verification details have been received and have been processed. I must say that you should count yourself extremely lucky to have emerged as one of our lucky winners in the UK National Lottery Online Sweepstakes International Program.

As you already know, all participants for the online version were selected randomly from the World Wide Web through a computer draw system and extracted from over 1, 000, 000 unions, associations and corporate bodies that are listed online and each email address was attatched to a ticket number. Your email address attatched to ticket number: [protected] 188 with Serial number 5368/02 was selected which automatically makes you one of our lucky winners.

Your funds have been approved for release and we will begin the process of remittance of your prize money to you immediately. We have contacted the UK National Lottery Advisory Board and The Internal Revenue Board and we have received the approval to send your prize money which is a total sum of £850, 000.00 (Eight Hundred and fifty thousand Great British Pounds) via a certified cheque from our official prize issuing Courier Service ( GLOBAL MAX Courier Service in United Kingdom ) in accordance with our policies.

We have also contacted the Courier officials and have made all necessary arrangements on your behalf. All process of your delivery will be made known to you as soon as you contact the Courier Company

Do note, that sequel to UK Lottery Acts 249(n) of 1972 ammended in July, 1996 to ensure the actual winning prize get to Winners, any fees involved in the transfer process can not be deuducted from your prize money because your winning claim is bonded by a hard cover insurance policy that gives only the winner access to the prize money.

Hence you will be responsible for all costs incurred in the transfer of your funds.

Please forward your Name and Ticket number to The Client Services Manager, GLOBAL MAX COURIER and he will get to you as soon as your winning parcel is ready for delivery.

Oh my god. As James said, don't be so silly as to even open them! Delete immediatly. As for responding with some kind of sarcastic email, these guys aren't going to care, they'll also delete it if it has not got any of your details in it and not think twice - as they know there are people out there who will just instantly give out details & money - as above shows! If they have to create a little response then so be it, they'll do it if they think they can get something

Anita - think round two is coming, cut your losses im afraid.

I received this email as well. I did not send any info they were requesting, even my sex or age. All I said was I was over age 25 and living in the United States.

I wasn't even PERSONALLY emailed...no first or last name basis. Nothing. So I said I wasn't going to "participate" until I got a more formal, personal email. DO NOT SEND ANY INFORMATION ABOUT YOURSELF, ESPECIALLY your bank account information or credit card number or address.

Here is the email I received:

Guys, I'm from South America and this ### definitely think we are still at the Stone Age down here. After receiving 2 or 3 of this mails I contacted the UK Embassy in our capital city and after confirming they are crooks I sent all of them a nice message. Fancy to see?
Quote
Dear sirs,
I kindly appreciate all your efforts to send me the package with my winning cheque plus my laptop (courtesy of Sony).
Through the diplomatc services of our Uruguayan embassy in UK and the UK embassy in Montevdeo, we have arranged with public notary that my prize is collected directly at your offices so as to avoid such high expenses for delivery and enjoy, meanwhile, a fantastic week or so in your beautiful city.
Pls, keep in contact so as to let me know where and how I should send your "little bonus". Should it be at the UDEP Students Dpt. as indicated in your former e-mail address? If so, pls let me know which is the bank account number of the University of Texas El Paso to send a swift.
Pls keep in touch, you already have my e-mail address or also you can reach me at the Interpol Offices in Montevideo, Uruguay.

I live in Canada and I got one of these stupid scam mails too from this infamous Richard Ness. I'm not asked for bank info or to send money to claim but I knew it was BS either way. I went to the UK lottery site and there was no names mentioned of who are directors or "in charge" and the the email I was given to confirm is uknlfoundation@verizon.net. This email gave me my winning #'s file # batch # and the amount I "won" and the address is 12 Bridge St. Staines Middlesex TW18 4tp UK. Unfortunately there was no phone # or I actually would've called them from Canada. There's no link neither to click. The other name mentioned in this email is a Sir Mark Dulle who is apparently the online lottery director. Hopefully somebody will catch this/these people and put a stop to it.
Best Regards.

How can i face and can lodge claim against the cyber crime regarding winning uk lottery by british citizen ?
I got an email that i have won Uk online promotion lottery and won a huge amount and was told to contact my claim officer (RICHARD NESS). I contacted him and he approved and told to choose my payment mode . I selected" delivery by courier" and was told to contact despatch officer (SIR GORDONS BROWN). the CHURCHILL express sent an email to choose my delivery option . I chose BRONZE DELIVERY( WITH IN 7 days ). THE CHURCHILL EXPRESS insructed to deposit the money in ICICI bank .I deposited the amout and the courier company confirmed me about their payment of charges . i deposited money on 6/5/08, they told to give delivery on 12/5/08. On sunday (10) morning i got 2 emails from NESS & churchill express, that my parcel was taken by customs at delhi international airport and they are demanding 5000 GBP ( more than 4 lakhs ). they told that customs officers have threaten them . I have to pay the amount to take the delivery . From 29/4 - 11/5 Ness called me 23 times as a responsible claim officer .

On simple believe i choose BRONZE DELIVERY and paid 320 GBP, ( 26, 300 INR ). As per their agreement they should give my delivery on 12.5.2008. I did not get any parcel . Now they are demanding 5000 GBP( 4, 05, 000INR ) . From 29.04.08-12.05.08 Mr. Ness called me more than 21 times as pretending a dutiful and responsible claim officer . How can he use the page where "Copyright © [protected] The U.K. Royal National Lottery Inc

So then, You get an email from someone you don't know. They tell you that you won a heap of money when you know you didn't enter anything. Most of us are not even in the UK. We know lotteries and big prizegivings want publicity to entice more people to enter. Do you really think they would email you and quietly give away money?
OK let us say they were convincing -did you not get a clue when suddenly you get asked for ID or driving licence/passport details and address. You should all be worried about identity theft. Then surprise surprise the guy says you have to pay the shipping company...duh OK it's not them asking you think, its the people who handle their shipping... hmmm You want me to pay you money, give you access to who I am, where I am, my bank account or a cheque with all my details on, my important passport and licence data...and you didn't smell a rat. Come on, really. If you're smart enough to operate an email you should be smart enough to hit the phishing scam button on the computer. If not perhaps you shouldn't be allowed out on your own. Yes these people are despicable ### but you should be chiding yourselves for not being more suspicious before you let people electronically rape you. Hope you are safe and cancelled all credit cards and alerted your banks if you did send them information. God bless.

This Rcihard Ness guy is, as we say here in Texas, total Bull ###. I find it very interesting that two or more people could have the same winning numbers. Who in there right mind would fall for this crap, with ID theft being what it is today. The following is copy of the e-mail I received.

I was almost kind of excited, because it was my very first scam e-mail. Can you believe it.? I knew right away, i mean, hello, how would I win a British lottery? I'm in Oregon. I am amazed people can fall for this stuff. Seems absolutely ridiculous that they can't be stopped. Hello, if you receive any sort of odd e-mail from anyone you don't know, and it involves money, try Google. Anything legit will have information.
