Well we got taken. "MorEnergy" aka Enbridge Gas aka Direct Energy
We were told that Mor Energy was working in co-operation with the
Hydro distributors ( in our case Wasaga Distribution ) to replace their
old hotwater heaters. The one they would sell us on a monthly rental/
payment to own plan would be much more energy efficient and save us
money in the long run etc. They would remove the old tank on behalf
of Wasaga Distribution and notify them of the change over.
I expected in the next few weeks to get a bill from MorEnergy for the
agreed upon monthly fee. Instead I recieved my Enbridge Gas bill with
an amount for the hot water heater on it!
Meanwhile my Wasaga Distribution bill continued to come in showing
my hotwater tank heater rental amount of $11.00. I assumed this was
just an oversight and would be cleared up soon. When this did not happen
I contacted Wasaga Dist. and was informed that this was a scam that has
been carried out over and over again in the area. They said as far as they
are concerned we still have the tank and so must pay for its rental.
We have been told by MorEnergy that to buy out on our tank will cost us
$1, 797.58
Can anyone help me?

I was scammed by moreEnergy in 2011, and was cheated into renting a water heater from them.
Soon after we moved into our new house a man showed up, saying that he was from a government agency and our water heater was 10 years old and inefficient, they could replace it for free.
My son was home alone. He was a college student and did not know there were scams in Canada. He signed
an agreement with them for us and had the water heater replaced.
When my wife and I returned home one month later my son told us about the water heater. When the bill came we found that it was 20 dollars more than the last heater provider's. We thought it was unacceptable. I called more
Energy to cancel the deal. They refused. We were new immigrants in Toronto and had a little boy to take care of so we gave up arguing with moreEnergy. But I want people to know moreEnergy was not an honest company.

Denise and John are stupid. They know nothing. They don't have the power, which is probably why it folded. I'm glad John is getting to old that he had to quit. I hope his bank account became NSF along with Denise.

Wow. It looks like everything is a scam. There is a reason why over employed people find jobs at this company. It would probably make the top 100 worst places to work. A lot of disrespectful ### work there. Not all are really old.

Hi Frank,

Rosemarie T. Leclair is the Chair and CEO and probably the best person to properly answer your questions. If not Ken Quesnelle might be a good person to speak with..

Hello and thank you for all the info, but is there a specific department at the OEB that I need to talk to? Or do you think I should write an email?
Thanks again for your response, it bothers me to know that in a country like ours their are people that cannot find an honest way to make a living! And what bothers me even more is the people that work for these criminals, can you believe that yesterday a young women in her 20's came to my door a said she needs to inspect my gas appliances. Really at 20-something years old she has the experience to inspect ! There must be away to stop this type of soliciting just like the phone calls!

Hello Frank,

Morenergy was charged at least three times so far by the OEB. They had to pay heavy fines as well as send a letter to all the folks they ripped off with their water heater scam (including you) giving you the option to switch back to your previous provider at no charge to you. This DID NOT HAPPEN in your case (and others) and the OEB needs to know about it. Your contract was not confirmed if you dont even have a copy of it. You need to push to get a copy because chances are they forged your contract just like many others. Or simply changed it later.
I have been watching these guys for quite some time. Morenergy is not allowed to enter into any new contracts with low-volume customers for a couple years. Not sure they are adhering to that either. Morenergy was sold to National Home Services who are just as criminal and shady according to their history... their parent company is Just Energy they are just as bad according to BBB, and all the consumer complaint sites.
John Nassar and Denise Persaud are the key players and as far as I am concerned should be serving prison time for major fraud.
But instead of being in prison where they belong they have started a new solar company MorSolar... located in the SAME office as Blue Power. Their rating on BBB and OEB and pretty much anything you google re: Morenergy/Blue Power aka John Nassar/Denise Persaud is ridiculous and criminal. So to fix their bad reputation they simply change the name of the business or start a new one... they dont even have to move their office.
They have done this right under the BBBs nose. Look up Morenergy/Blue Power and see the same two names John Nassar and Denise Persaud... same names and same address as their new company MorSolar who now has an A on the BBB site because they are new. Nice tactic. How can John Nassar go from an F to an A overnight with the BBB when he has not corrected any of his deceptive practices or helped all of the folks (mostly seniors) whose lives he destroyed with his scams thus far.
We will be lodging a complaint AGAINST THE BBB for enabling the criminals to continue this long due to the gaping, dangerous hole in their useless system. You would think someone at the BBB could pull this together. Many OPP depts have been involved and have investigated, their excuse is, even though the OPP found Blue Power guilty of fraud/forgery they did not have the resources to convict. I have met many others in the same boat (solar panel rip off scam). Although our fight is with their solar panel scam it is identical to the furnace/hot water tank scams we have read about over and over for years.
Guess it was time to switch commodities in order to continue making money off the innocent and vulnerable.
Frank, I highly recommend you call the OEB and report morenergy's failure to comply with the charges set against them in the final order... read it here: http://www.ontarioenergyboard.ca/oeb/_Documents/Decisions/Dec_Order_morEnergy_20130718.pdf

We were scamed also, yes it is a total scam! This salesman came to our door the day we were moving in, a tactic that I now no they have used this often. He told me he was from Enbridge and that he need to inspect the hot water heater, of course it needed to be changed. He told me that this was free of charge and he told me that nothing would change on our bill. Now, just moving that day with all the confusion of movers and boxes ect... and not ever seeing a bill before I was not even sure what I or how much I was paying or to whom. This all happened 2 years ago. During this period I received a call to witch I had to release the old water heater. At this point I thought something was up but I didn't real know and then almost to the day a year later I received a phone call from a women that told me that thier company bought morenergy. I asked her to send me a copy of the contract because I did not recieve one. She said if we send you one by mail that there would be a charge of $5. So I gave her my email but I never received anything. And now year after that they send me a bill for the 2 years. And now in the past week or so if been doing some research on the whole water heater and morenergy. And like all of you I am very mad that these companies can get away with these scams, then even if thier caught they can just sell the company to someone but still collect the money? If someone has any suggestions on how to get out of this scam, I would be greatful!

Morenergy also known as Blue Power (and many many other aliases) have not changed their shady practices, just the name of the company. Morenergy was taken over by National Home Services; they have quite a horrible reputation on the BBB site as well.
We are currently in a one million dollar lawsuit/counter lawsuit with these guys because they are scamming us with the solar panel project we have on the roof of the home we purchased. There are many others in lawsuits with these creepy characters. The OPP even investigated Blue Power because they use forgery, lies and any underhanded criminal tactic they can to "make the sale".
Blue Power/Morenergy has scammed seniors and the vulnerable yet again with this product because they keep getting away with it.
I have personally met dozens of families (mostly seniors/widows/etc) who are caught up in the same scam with this solar panel company. Google OEB, BBB and any complaint site... Blue Power/Morenergy is infamous.
Buyer beware do not do business with Blue Power/Morenergy/National Home Services or whoever they happen to be this week. We are not being protected from these nefarious, repeat offenders by our government so we the people will do what we have to get them off the street once and for all.

Just received notice from morEnergy, 25 Sheppard Avenue West as of Feb 1, 2014 increase of $0.70 for my hot water tank rental and $2.08 increase for furnace rental. I have never heard from this company since the installation over a year ago which was a total nightmare with 0 service since then. I smell a fraud all over this transaction.

I have very bad experience dealing with morenergy. They rise the water tank fee without notice, and when I called in ask why they said they can rise the fee whenever they want and it's signed under contract. Of Cause I didn't read all those little words on the back of the contract, I am totally pissed off with such dishonest document. Just want to get out off the contract but they bill the fee on my gas bill which makes me crazy, I do not want to pay morenergy, as the contract is a scam. Can anyone help?

I called MOR Energy to find out how much is the buy out price for my hot water tank which is under a rental agreement for 10 years and they gave me a price of $2, 973.67 which is the total remaining installments to be paid after the expiration of the rental agreement ...an unfair and illegal way of calculating the buy out price.I complained that this is not fair market value as stated in the Rental Agreement and they have to take in consideration the 4 years depreciation and cost price because it was purchased in october 2008.The first time I called they told me that National Homes Services took over some business of MOR Energy and because Maximum is the company who issue the bills I have to speak to them about buy out price...and if you don't now your rights and read carefully the legal agreement ..it does not make sense because MOREnergy is the company bind by the rental agreement.I am waiting for a response from MOREnergy to give me a fair market value for the buy out as estipulated in the Rental Agreement if not ..I'll be filing a complaint to the Miinistry of Consumers Relations.

I dont know about other salespeople for this company but i just recently purchased a house and im a new home owner. The salesperson came to my door and said because im the new owner for transferring purposes he has to check my water tank to make sure its working. I asked what company he's from and he said he's from enbridge, my current gas company. He told me theres rust on mine so its going to be a free upgrade. He told me the free upgrade would not increase my payment and i would actually save more money with the new water heater because its a newer model. He also said my rental rates would stay the same and i wouldnt have to pay for installation. He told me to sign for the free upgrade due to rust and i did. Someone else came and took the old water heater and brought the new one. After a month a realized my gas bill went up significantly because of rental rates. I called enbridge to find out why and told them the situation and they told me that it was actually morenergy that came to my door and not them, enbridge also told me that i owned my previous water tank. Right now im in the process of making this a legal dispute with morenergy, i keep calling them but their supervisors and managers have been either on vacation, away from their desk, or in meetings for the past 2 weeks. (go figure).

This company is completely ridiculous, they know themselves they are crooks and they try to run away from problems. There are lots of vulnerable people out there such as myself being a new home owner and not knowing about door to door sales. I'm a salesperson myself and i know what this salesperson did was unethical and misrepresenting. Nowhere on the contract does it show a set monthly payment or anything. It disgusts me to know that with all of these complaints out there the government allows them to operate such a business.

I had a rep from morEnergy come to my house saying that my water tank was no good and government was eliminating my type of water tank and they would give me a deal on a new one. Would cost me nothing so the order was pending and they would call me for a confirmation. I called them to say I was cancelling the order. Well ten minutes later I receive a call from service guy saying he was on his way to install new tank. I did not receive any confirmation call and this was all done in one day. What kind of a company is this and is the government with them.. To me it is all a scam. Does anyone disagree with me

JUST SENT THIS TO morENERGY; CAN NOT BELIEVE THE SERVICE THEY PROVIDED! To Whom It
I have tried to stay calm, spent hours on the phone with morENERGY...
We were first of all mislead, with FALSE INFORMATION. WHEN let into our home, they left our laundry room in a mess. The packaging was left for us to clean and dispose of. That evening when everyone was home, we heard a horrible noise coming from hot water tank. We called, and explained. This was useless, as we were told, it’s normal. There was nothing they could do. This was very annoying at night, disturbed our children and ourselves, called back, same answer. We wanted to speak to a manager? Someone to take care of this matter. NEVER did receive a called. Did not matter when you called, you always received a representative, that had no answers. We were always told, some one will call us, and never hear anything.
This morning, Thursday.Aug.11th.2011 I wake, go to have a shower, we have no ‘hot water’ I turned the tap on, and let it run? nothing, only cold. So ANOTHER CALL, 10:00am this morning. My information is taken, and again, told I will hear from someone, letting us know a time that someone can come and have a look at it? I called back at 12:10pm, as I have not heard a word from anyone. This is something I am not going to stand for. I have a family, I have children, we NEED HOT WATER. I am given the same response... I will hear from someone, letting me know when they can come take a look at it? SERIOUSLY? WHAT KIND OF COMPANY, PROVIDES THIS KIND OF SERVICE, UNACCEPTABLE! 3:00pm still nothing? So I call, again, yes I am upset and frustrated with this entire situation. The service that has been provided from the beginning, should of been a sign? The representative, said to me “There is nothing she can do” She has put out a call, and someone will get back to me, when they are available to come out. STOP, right there...I am done, I no longer want to be a customer, to a business that handles ALL their matters this way. I am then told, You will have to buy out the contract? Are you kidding me? My husband was told, MorEnergy" working with Enbridge customers to replace their old hot water tanks. We would get is on a monthly rental payment just as Direct Energy, would be much more energy efficient. Of course they would remove the old tank, and replace it and any piping needed.
She replied, you’ll have to take this up with your husband? I told her, the house was in MY NAME, I DID NOT SIGN NOTHING. She said, yes I have the contract? So I asked for a copy...NO she could not send me a copy, as she did NOT have it, she would have to send for one, and then send it to me..
My husband, came in from work, now its 4:58pm...still have heard not a word, to when we will have water? So ANOTHER call... and still there’s nothing they can say, or tell us, it’s out of their hands. All they are aware of is that, we will receive a call, from a contractor when he can make time to come out? We told her, to come pick up the hot water tank, and she replied “NO” you will be invoice for the balance owing.

A guy from MorEnergy came to my house yesterday and told me that he was from Enbridge authorized dealer and needs to see my hotwater tank. I asked him couple of times whether he was from Enbridge and everytime he replied he was from Enbridge authorised dealer. I asked him to show his ID what he has been hiding in his pocket. And I saw he was from MorEnergy not from Enbridge. When I asked him why did you told he was from Enbridge and again he told me he was from Enbridge authosized dealer. I guess this is their business tricks to get customer by confusing people and by telling lie.

I agree mor Energy is a scam. They installed a water tank and furnace on Oct 16, 2010 I have been paying full price since. The water tank is suppose to be 11.95 plus tax, they take out 19.07 the furnace is suppose to be 1.00 plus tax for a year they have taken out 50.79 every month since Nov.2010 plus the 1.00 per month. I put stop payment on those amounts so now Mar.1 they took out a different amount 53.82. I don't know what else to do except get a lawyer.

All the people on here that have anything positive to say about MorEnergy are likely to be working for the company. Anyone in my town I have talked to that got taken in by this SCAM are very unsatisfied with everything that has to do with this "company". i myself have been double billed numerous times and when I call to inquire about my bill there is NEVER anyone in the billing department to speak with and it takes 3 or 4 days for anyone to call me back and then they talk in circles and are very rude (much like the "postive" response peole on here). this company is pure BS and they will get what is coming to them in the end...HE__! this is the only place this company belongs.

RUSS P --- this is my exact situation. I purchased my property and my lawyer was asked upon closing to provide a void check to be used for the hot water tank rental monthly withdrawl. I am now having problems with my tank, and have called morEnergy several times -- with no response from anyone. I have no copy of a contract so do not even know what the previous owners have signed on for. I don't know how to get service or how to get out of the agreement, if its even possible. I am beyond frustrated by the lack of customer service! I suppose putting a stop payment on my monthly withdrawls would probably get someones attendtion.

This is my complaint to the Better Business Bureau regarding morEnergy:
I purchased this property in October. The purchase agreement indicated a rental water tank. (only). Prior to close I called morenergy asking for a buyout of the unit. I was informed that the buyout for this two year old unit was $2200! I was informed that I'd also have to buy out the service contract (RE1237--)that goes along with the unit. That aside, the person I had purchased the property from was, at the time he signed the contract, eighty-two years old. The salesperson had sold a contract to a man who would not be free of it until he was well over a hundred years old!

1. I don't believe I should be bound to a (service) contract in someone else's name. I am happy to purchase the unit at fair market value. Barring that, I'm happy to listen to whatever a reputable salesperson might have to say about a new and more reasonable service contract.

2. Preying upon seniors or the infirm is a disgusting and reprehensible practise and morenergy should lose their license to operate.

Account Number: RE1237--

Consumer's Desired Resolution:
Cancellation of the service contract with the previous owner. Happy to entertain a new (reasonable) rental and service agreement. Failing that, the opportunity to buy out the tank at fair market value.

Well, the body of this complaint is NOT the issue at hand for my complaint originating in November.
However, the response that it is a 3rd party responsibility is interesting.
I have talked to all parties involved. Direct Energy (the supplier) stated that the problem lies with morEnergy. morEnergy has been contacted and said it is the responsibility of a 3rd party finance agency. The rep of the finacial agency said it is a problem with Direct Engery.
Does this sound like a run-around to you? It does to me.
My original complaint was about a water heater scam foisted on me by morEnergy. I bought out the water heater at an exhorbitant rate rather than take an 85 yr old man to court.
I am STILL being charged for the rental of same water heater almost a year AFTER morEnergy was paid for the unit.
It is, in my opinon, morEnergy's ultimate responsibility. It is their contract regardless of who sends the bills out (Direct Energy) or who is administering their finances (whoever they are).
So, NO, this response is not acceptable.

Wasaga Beach complaint - we have just found out that our recently deceased 96 year old Mother has been caught up in the same scam.

We are in the process of determining what the options are ?

Can anyone recommend any resources to deal with this issue ie. lawyers, organizations, Better Business Bureau, government Ministries newspapers.

At this point some fool with an accent is calling the parents house and leaving intimidating messages, calling her by her first name, and demanding she pay up. They were advised a month ago she passed away. Thank God she is not here to deal with this character - she would have been scared to death.

You need to know what your looking for when it comes to buying something for efficiency. Buying something from home Depot that says its efficient means it hits the bare min of efficientcy, and getting something something from morenergy or direct energy is the top of the line in high efficiency. For example why do you think when you buy a T.V at the brick for lets say $999.99 and then you go to walmart and see what you think is the same T.V for $799.99 or less. It not the same look at the model # and you will see that it's different and the quality is not the same as the one from the brick. There built to suit walmart and it's pricing and same goes for the brick, as it does for funaces ect.

My experience isn't regarding a Hot Water Tank, but a High Efficiency Furnace. But I have to say that I feel that morEnergy "may" be a legit company, but they don't have honest representatives. The representative that came to my house wasn't very honest. At first he said that it'll be $1/month for the first year, and $49.95/month after the first year for a High Efficiency Furnace until it was fully paid for. But once I saw the the papers that I had to sign the $49.95/month was a rental fee... not a payment to eventually own the unit, but a monthly payment ~ forever, as long as I have their unit. I'm like no way, I want to own the unit and not pay for it forever. He asked for my SIN number which I didn't give because it sounded fishy, then he said that they'll have do a credit check to be approved by their company to finance the unit on a monthly basis so I won't have to rent it, so I listened to what he had to say. It was sick... $49.46/month for a 15 year term which equals $8, 902.80 for a High Efficiency Furnace. I can get the most expensive High Efficiency Furnace at Home Depot for $2, 699.00 which is the (Model 1802G) plus installation. Then there was another option, it was to get a approved by TD Bank for $58.33/month for a 10 year term which equals $6, 999.60 which is still way too much to a furnace. NOTE that all this is an incentive to get a government rebate for making your home energy efficient. I'm all for energy efficiency and government rebates, but not at that cost. The rebate was only $250.00 which is no comparison to the price difference in the purchases. Yes, I will have saved money on my monthly energy payment, but all those saving would have just gone to MorEnergy. Oh yeah I almost forgot, you can buy out their High Efficiency Furnace for $3, 746.25 in cash plus tax, sounds over priced don't you think, when you can go to Home Depot, and no I don't work for Home Depot.

At the end I didn't purchase the unit from morEnergy, I'll just save to purchase a High Efficiency Furnace from different sources for a more economical price. Also here's an attached scanned promotional offer that they gave me. It looks nice until you do all the calculation.

I had a MorEnergy Sales Rep come to my ooor in March 2010. I was in market for a water heater as mine was 15 years old - rented from Direct Energy. I had called Direct Energy for a new tank but they said they would charge me for the new venting pipes. The MorEnergy rep was pleasant, professional and helpful. They agreed to install vent pipes at no charge. I signed the rental agreement. I did have a few questions and concerns in the next few days and all were answered through the Mor Energy customer service line - everyone was very helpful.

The removal and installation was done by a local company subcontracted by MorEnergy. Installers were fast and professional. I did have a small issue with "double billing" - Direct Energy charged me at the same time MorEnergy did but I e-mailed the subcontractor and within days received a reimbursement of the amount I had paid to Direct Energy (via my Enbridge bill) after I didn't have their tank anymore. The issue was caused by delay in returning the old tank to Direct Energy and that is why the subcontractor reimbursed me.

So bottom line is that I had a very positive experience.

I have a contract with morEnergy to supply my natural gas and they cancelled it b/c the cancellation fee from my previous distributor was too high. They did not notify me of this and now it has gone to collections. I HIGHLY recommend not dealing with this company. They are giving me the run around.

Go and check on BBB again, man. Mor Energy got a A-!. Enbridge, which was Comsumer Gas before, sold all tank services to a British company called Direct Energy, which got a F on BBB, After the market deregulated, mor energy, a Canadian local company came into the market and offer tank services. MorEnergy has agreement with Enbridge and your rental will paid thru Enbridge bill, plus you have a fixed rental rate in 10 yrs.

A Morenergy agent recently came to me and said that they are there on behalf on Enbridge and showed me a laminated piece of paper with the Enbridge logo and company info. He said that they are replacing old faulty pipes that leak carbon monoxide. I showed him the pipes and sure enough, he said they were the old ones and that I am eligible to have them replaced at no cost. He produced a contract and booked an installation date. He asked for a copy of my Enbridge bill and mentioned that I would see Morenergy's name and a small charge on my monthly bill. I asked why there would be a monthly charge if they were just replacing my pipes for free. He then mentioned, well with new pipes, you'll get a new rental. I got mad at him because he neglected to mention that! He said the new tank is more energy efficient so I'll save in the long run.
I'm a single, first-time homebuyer so this stuff is all new to me, so I held on to the contract and told him that I would ask my parents about it and get back to him. He seemed upset, and asked me to call them on the spot! I told him to leave and asked for his card and said if I needed his services, I would call Enbridge.
I just checked out the BBB and their rating is F for contract, sales, customer service, billing and various other issues.

To the person with the caps lock stuck on, you are an idiot. Using caps is like trying to be the loudest one in the room. Morenergy is a completely legit business. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you get to "yell" about it on the Internet. Give your own head a shake.

Lisa is absolutely correct about what she said, it's a recently de-regulated market and morenergy is just another competitor. I encourage everyone to use absolute caution with door to door people. However if they leave their number and some info and it looks good, give them a call back after you have done your research If its a scam I'm sure that whoever you talked to will have hightailed out of town already and/or its a fake number.

Use your common sense and no one will get scammed!

Hi there. I live in the GTA, and I too had a visit from a Morenergy Agent. I, however, recieved much diferent information!
Morenergy, Enbridge Gas, and Direct Energy are three entirely different companies. Enbridge is obviously a utility, and sold out their water heater sector years ago. They sold their water heaters to Direct Energy. More recently, water heaters were sort of deregulated, so that more private companies were able to compete with Direct Energy. This is awesome, we now have choice!
It sounds to me as though there was some confusion as to whom owned your old hot water heater. This could be an agent mistake, or an administration mistake on the end of either companies (Direct or More)
I'm so sorry that you did not have the same, positive experience that I did. The agent you spoke to must have been confused, or dishonest even.
My instalation went very smoothly. The agent was kind enough to show me how I could bundle my services and save extra money on my monthly rental fee. He did not pressure me in any way, and was happy leave his phone number so that my husband was able to ask questions when he got home later that evening.
I really like morenergy, maybe you should give them a second chance!

Lisa
