I have been a moose member now for over eight years and the last two have played in the golf event for special Olympics at the Venice moose. Last year our foursome was fortunate to come in tied for first place with three other teams in the B flight and one team was thrown out and wouldn't know our luck it was us. Not a problem had a good time and for a great cause. We came back this year with the same foursome and by all accounts were put back in the B flight. This was evident by the separation of all the golf carts prior to starting. The A flight was on the right side and were sent out first to start and our score card stated we were starting on the eighth hole in the letter B after for the flight. Our table like last year stated 8B for our flight and starting position. Will wouldn't you know we performed better this year then last but still no clue how we did until winners were announced. The A flight winners were announce then the B flight. When the B flight winners were announced the 3 rd place was a 68 and 2nd was a 67 and now our foursome was excited because we shot a 64. Will the 1st place winner was announced with a 68 and even the speaker had the look on his face like how can this be first and third have the same score. Well you should have seen the look on his face when I walked up and said how can that be when our foursome shot a 64. Well he said he didn't know and called for a Bob Anderson who I assume was running the tournament, but prior to Anderson showing up He still handed over the first place winnings to obviously not the winners of B flight. Well when Bob Anderson finally shows himself and I ask how someone with a 68 can when first place when our foursome shot a 64. His reply without even asking who we were was that we were in A flight and I said no we are in B flight. That's what our scorecard said that's the group we went out with and look that's what our table placard says 8B which designates B flight. His response was no that doesn't mean anything the flights aren't determined until the scorecards are all turned in after the golf tournament. I said that isn't what everyone has been told nor the way it is explained. He then said that is the way we f------ do it.. Now we had two women sitting at our table as well and he again repeated that's the way we f------ do it at the Moose. As you might imagine we went to happy and he had a few more words of profanity before he disappeared. We spoke to a couple of other Moose executives who had no clue how the golf tournament is run or how it should be run. There answer was to offer us a free dinner on the Moose Now with the first place winners receiving 400 hundred dollars that doesn't seem like a good response. Before I go any further this isn't about the money and we told them that. The sad part is our foursome was going to donate the money back to the special Olympics. The issue here is we have a serious honest and ethics question and that really calls into question the integrity of the tournament and Bob Anderson who I guess runs it. This is the only golf tournament I have played in were scores are kept in a back room and now we have learned the flights aren't even determined until all scorecards are turned in. Every other tournament the flights are predetermined and the scores are posted for every participate to see as they are turned in. That at least eliminates the temptation to select a winner other then the foursome with the lowest score in each flight. I as a member I would not and will not encourage people to join an organization that clearly doesn't have the ethics that it claims to have and allows a person like Bob Anderson to represent the Moose with the foul language in front of women who were not part of our group and then disappear without resolving the concerns of members. But simply say well that's the way we f-------do it at the Moose doesn't seem to be a good response. It would be great to see an audit of the tournament and just how much money the charity received because unfortunately the actions of some individuals calls into question the integrity of the entire tournament. I would also like to see the lodge donate 400 hundred dollars to the charity as we were going to do.
