Previously, as parents of two students at Moohan, we became concerned about the erratic behavior of the lead instructor/new owner. We attempted to amicably terminate our contact with Moohan Martial Arts, but the new owner refused to cooperate. On three separate occasions, we tried to arrive at an arrangement that would satisfy Moohan, but without success. For this reason, we unilaterally terminated our contract with Moohan, mainly because we felt compelled to protect our children. To document our reasons, we are posting this to the Complaints Board. We are certain there are many other parents who have similar complaints to ours. To summarize, our concerns fall into three areas:
· First, the lead instructor appeared to have abnormal interest in our 10-year-old daughter. We saw him touching our daughter in a manner we felt was objectionable. Additionally, we were uncomfortable that the lead instructor/new owner called our home on three occasions to ask about our daughter.
· Second, the lead instructor was observed hitting students during class. We disagree with this behavior and find it inappropriate.
· Third, the lead instructor lied to parents regarding an important commitment. We do not think this behavior sets an appropriate standard for our children.
Moohan later contacted us, agreeing to the termination of the contract if we would make payments, which were very one-sided and unfair to us. (Essentially, they were asking for large payments for services that they had not provided.) Moohan refused our counter-offer.
It should be noted for parents considering placing their children at Moohan that there are other issues as well. Moohan has gone through many different instructors and staff in a short period of time. The high turn-over is reportedly the result of the erratic behavior of the lead instructor/new owner. We feel this pattern additionally supports our claim.
I do not know Mr. Seo other than 1 meeting. I was looking to move my son from Master Pius Martial arts cause we moved away from the school and i frankly didnt like Master Pius playing favorites with some of the kids (what i interpreted as playing favorites). I went to moohan. He demanded a 1 - 3 year contract. Seo spent the entire time saying he was a 10th dan and the only 10th dan in Georgia. Master Pius is a 8th or 9th (cant remember i think he moved up since this occured) Dan and he is friends with most of the martial arts community. Had SEO been a 10th dan (which clearly he isnt) I would have known about him. The class seemed fun the instructions were good. I was impressed the kids learned weapons cause Master Pius only teaches that to the black belt club. But then SEO began insulting Master Pius. Saying he didnt know what he was doing and blah blah blah. He showed ZERO respect for an Olympian who had been nothing but friendly to him and who had taught my son TKD from the time he was an awkward seemingly autistic 8 year old to now a very confident 11 year old. Respect for your Senior and Jr Belts is something SEO didn't show and he was more interested in the $$$ than the actual talent of my son. He even said that the Korean Certificates in Kukkiwon did not matter to him and that if my son transferred he's make him a white belt and he said that without even evaluating him. Thats when he proceeded to say Master Pius was not a real martial artist. That screamed I want all the money i can make off this kid. SO now i drive over an hour to Master Pius. I would recommend any parent who is looking to have their kid in TKD to either go to the Moohan in Sandy Springs (i met with the teachers there, he was respectful and patient with my son and offered to do private tutoring to help my son get ready for his tournament since master pius is so far away from us and with traffic we couldnt make it to the competition team class and he offered a month to month contract) or to go to Master Pius which has 6 months 1 year etc contracts as well as momth to momth and is a quality teacher. IDK if SEO owns moohan sandy springs but whatever school he does teach at, i wouldnt go to. He seems creepy
This place is a joke. Seo locks you in with a contract and tries to threaten you financially once you figure out all of the lies, the dust settles and the smoke clears. Look at the revolving door of instructors; even they want nothing to do with the guy. If you're looking to endure hardship and dissatisfaction, try this place out. He is greedy and a very strange guy. Just do yourself a favor and stay away... consider this a formal warning. Don't blame me or anyone else on here once you find out for yourself.
Moohan Johnson Ferry is not affiliated with the other Moohan locations. They may share the name, but they share nothing else. I know both Master Hwang and Grandmaster Seo. I like them both. But overall, I have always preferred Master Hwang (owner of Sandy Plains Moohan and the original owner at Johnson Ferry - he sold Johnson Ferry location to Grandmaster Seo in 2010 and has had nothing to do with Johnson Ferry since that time). Great instructor and leader. He respects his students, their families, and most importantly, his staff. His school has an overwhelmingly positive, family friendly atmosphere. Even when students are disciplined in class, it's done with great respect. I would not recommend a 3 yr contract with either school. One year only. So many things can change in that length of time.
i completely agree. Seo is very strange and we also removed our children. He had a staff member who was indicted in Cobb county for child abuse and he would not address the matter. We ended up losing about $3K but it was in the best interest of our children. My advice is to stay away from any TKD School with Moohan in the name. This is nothing but trouble.
This place is ridiculous. They treat it as a business, not as a school. There is not much to learn. I have been here for over a year now, and I realize now that I haven't learned a lot. The contract is also very hard. I completely agree with this complaint. I have seen a lot of people leave, and everyone who has had made the right call. Don't join here.
Moohan Martial Arts on Johnson Ferry Road is led by Grandmaster In-won Seo an 8th degree black belt, soon to be 9th, and several well qualified black belt instructors. The staff alone is reason enough to continue to be a student at this school. Along with several high ranking instructors, each class is strict and fun at the same time. They cater to kids as young as four and teach them discipline and focus while having fun in every class too. I have had nothing but good experience from the Moohan staff and continue looking forward to the instruction of the black belts. I would recommend this school to anyone especially parents with young kids who need better discipline and positive influences in their lives. The black belt staff is very friendly to all students of all ages. You wont regret reading and signing the contract to enroll at this fabulous martial arts school.
We transferred our son from Moohan to a different martial arts academy after the new ownership decided they did not want the expense of sending a competition team instructor to act as coach for our competitors at the 2010 Jr. Olympic Qualifier in Daytona. Since USAT rules only allow qualified instructors in the ring as coaches, parents were not permitted, and so the team had to fight in sparring matches with no coach in their corner. One boy on the team was hurt pretty badly during a match. The new owners and instructors just did not measure up to the previous ones in any way that mattered to us. The USAT Jr. Olympic events are serious venues for competition, several levels above what you find at local tournaments. Not to send a coach (all the other schools present sent at least 2) was, to me, extremely irresponsible and showed lack of commitment to those students who made THEIR extra commitment to the competition team. It just so happened that our contract was up, so we chose not to renew and started attending another school. But I do believe that the parents who wanted out of their contracts after Master Hwang sold the business, and all of the masters and instructors that the kids had come to know were let go should have been given the opportunity to cancel, or perhaps transfer to Master Hwang's new school.
Ealier I wrote a comment supporting Grandmaster Seo and his school. However, after attending the school for a longer period and seeing how many of my parent freinds have been treated both at the school and with the complete inflexability with the contracts, a new similar theme has arose and I have change my opinion. I am a parent at Moohan Martial Arts on Johnson Ferry Rd. It has come to my attention that one of his main instructors has been accused of inappriate touching of a child at a nearby school. The cobb county police are involed. I have a child there and yet they let this instructor continue to teach! I find this very disturbing that this would be allow to happen. The instructor should not be allowed to interact with our children until this has been resolved! Please Moohan...use some common sense!
Can YCWMarietta provide some specifics about inappropriate touching of her/his 10 year old daughter? Was Master Seo calling because she had not come to class or for other reasons? Their office called our home when we did not come to class for a few weeks.
It is obviously a very serious allegation to say you are concerned about how he touched your daughter. Since you remain anonymous and this posting is meant to aid others considering enrolling or keeping their child at the school, it would be helpful for you to provide the information for our consideration. Otherwise, it sounds like you are upset about your contract and are fabricating things so that we can air your complaint again.
A mans name is on the line here people. If these accusations are being made simply because of revenge and distain for this man shame on you. I have been going to Moohan for over a year and have never witnessed these false accusations. Mr. Seo is a great man and a wonderful teacher. I would speak on his behalf any day. Read the contract and quit being so childish. The rules are written in black in white!

I know that Mr.lee was slave. When Mr. hwang and Lee was middle school, they learnd taekwondo from mr.seo about 1 year.
That's why he can treat him. I'm a shame of Mr.Seo

I am a parent at Moohan as well as my child. I have been here through both owners as a student and a parent of a student. Mr. Hwang, the former owner, was actually Master Seo's student in Korea. I've enjoyed both owners and have great respect for each of them. However, the level and quality of instruction has taken a huge jump for the better. Grandmaster Seo is an 8th degree black belt, and brought another one of his students, Mr Lee, from Korea who is a 7th degree black belt. The difference is amazing! Also, a contract is a contract anywhere you go and change of ownership happens often in business with no effect on the contract terms. This is especially true when the product paid for actually gets BETTER! These folks that complain about such things are not in Martail Arts for the benefits it provides for them and their children, but for an activity that will entertain them with little to no commitment involed.
Mr. Hwang sold the school to Mr. Seo.
When he did that, he sold the properties not the students.
The students are neither merchandises nor slaves that can be sold at whatever price.
After Mr. Seo had taken over the school, all the instructors and manager quitted.
If a student is not satisfied with the new owner or his teaching, he or she should be allowed to
leave.
When the parents signed up for a long term contract, they expected their kids to be taught by
Mr. Hwang or the instructors he had hired. They have never expected that one day a stranger
would buy the school and fire everyone.
Of course, people who like Mr. Seo can continue to attend Moohan.
This complaint badly distorts facts and fabricates claims. Mr. Soe is a man of great integrity who treats his students with the greatest respect and propriety. As for the contract, the two grounds given on the document that can be used to break this legal agreement are 1)injury or illness, and 2) moving a distance from the school. I know this because I have signed the same contract for both myself and my son. I have the greatest respect and admiration for Moohan Martial arts and recommend it highly.
We are having a problem with Moohan as well. We have taken our children out of this program and they still tried to collect monthly payments. We wrote a letter, meet with them and Moohan said we must produce the original contract to cancel it. What! We need to get together on this. We could have a class action...
Moohan Martial Arts are independently owned they are not a corp or franchise.
Grand Master Seo is a Good man who does care about his students but not in any way being implied in this complaint. He has been doing this for over 30 years with no complaints like this before.
This complaint seems like someone grabbing at straws to try and get out of a contract
