This is a mastiff rescue org, who had a mastiff posted for adoption on per finders
I filled out an aplication. After being contacted by her I opened my home to a "Home Visit Inspection", provided 5 referances (that all check out), gave my vet info. did everything she asked.
During this time (3 weeks) I had visited the dogs several times and had fallen in love with them. I found out that the one she posted came in with another dog and she was asking that they be adopted together (she did not post them together). I had no problem with taking both.
On the 3rd week of this procees she called and told me I had been approved, asked if I had dog food and told me I would have to sign a contract that let her keep part ownership. I told her that I was not looking for a CO-Ownership, and asked if she could email me a copy of the contract. At this time she became very angry. About 5 minutes later she sent me an email saying I was not approved to adopt these dog.
This is bad policy. A rescue org should promote rescue, she did not. People like her demote rescue. She set me against rescueing a dog because I do not want to fall in love again to have the object of my effection pulled out of my hands.
Please do not let her do the same to you.

If you want to rescue an animal, find a reputable rescue org.
Do not resuce from a control freek that does not have the animals best interest at heart.
The complaint has been investigated and resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.
There are always two sides to every story. I am Mooch's Mastiff Rescue and there was no "co ownership" per se in the adoption agreement. However, the adoption agreement states that I can check on the dog and, if not happy with it's conditions, can reclaim the dog. This is what this lady was having issues with, which sent up the last red flag thereby disapproving her for adoption. The first red flag was when she said she had a mastiff and had never taken it to a vet. Only to a mobile vet to get it's shots. While that did concern me, all of her references checked out and said the dog was very well taken care of, but I had to ask for additional references from her that knew her previous mastiff, rather than the 3 she originally supplied on the application at the same telephone number at her church. The second reg flag was when it was very hard to get her to let me meet her husband who she claimed was "very sensitive". When I finally met him, one of his comments was "he was not ready for all that slobber again". Mastiffs slobber. The final step was to sign the adoption agreement, which she could have asked for at any time to review, and I certainly did offer to let her review it, she then went into a raving fit about "co ownership". There was no "last minute" surprise of 2 mastiffs, she knew from the first telephone call that I wanted these 2 adopted together I just hadn't had time to put the other one on the website as she replied immediately after the first one was posted. While she did visit the dogs here several times, most of the time she did not pay that much attention to the dogs, she talked about opening a grooming shop and her religious beliefs, which is OK, but when doing the home check, the grooming shop that she claimed was ready to open any day, I could not even look at (which was on her property) as renovations had not even started. She also had a bird that she did not list as one of her pets. Both were surprises. I am not a control freak. I want my rescues to go to their forever home and I didn't get the feeling this was it. She had a small breed dog she had just gotten from another rescue who did not do a home check, she did not have to fill out an application, and they never met her as she picked the dog up from their vet's office. After my telling this woman she was not approved when she refused to sign an adoption agreement, I got countless long rambling e-mails and telephone harassing calls that quoted the bible, spoke of witchcraft and had veiled threats in them all together. One of them, after praising rescue and what they do, said she was purchasing a female mastiff with breeding rights from a breeder, which is definitely co-ownership so this woman makes no sense. Her e-mails were not normal. I called the police and they got involved and saw first hand how she reacts when they told her not to contact me again and she called right back ranting and raving. The policeman was very surprised as his first call to her she came across as she did to me at first, very religious and kind. Then she changes. I'm sorry this lady took the route of slamming me and what I do.
I would never adopt a pet that was co-owned by anyone else, rescue or not. Is this common? There's another complaint here that indicates a rescue organization (White Paws) wanted a lot of control and even threatened to take back a dog out of spite, not because it wasn't being taken care of.
It is very suspicious if anyone refuses to let you see the contract ahead of time. You were wise to ask for it.
This group just seems shady all around: telling you at the last minute that you had to adopt two, not sending you the contract, suddenly "UNapproving" you...
It's a shame you fell in love with the dogs and got disappointed, but you really may have dodged a bullet if this is the way they behave.
I am sorry but we wish to have co-ownership regardless if you have been approved or not to prevent the animal from living in the same conditions before rescue. Unfortunatly there have been owners that turned out to be worse then the previous owners even though they "checked out"
