Monro Muffler Brake service

Went in for an oil change, check engine light and a 30 point safety inspection. What I got was a $850 quote for power steering sensor replacement, power steering flush, diagnostics, brake system flush, brake shoes, brake hardware, brake drums, brake caliber, and they forgot my oils change. There was also a $38 misc. charge that did not get explained. Knowing the power steering sensor was anywhere between $20-$40 and an oil change usually goes for $30 at most I told them to fix the check engine light, do the oil change, and write up the quote for the brakes. $414.73. For the work done. I did not get a quote for the brakes, all I got was a list of parts. When I asked about the work they denied any justification and would not support the work for the brakes with the supposed brake test they do on vehicles. When the slips where brought up there where safety test for other vehicles but not mine. Upon further investigation the shop left my brake calibers exposed, no supposed leakage in the brake lines, no worn brake drums, and no need for repair. I could not double check the sensor due to the fact they cleared my trucks memory, I will also have to wait to get my truck inspected due to the fact my trucks diagnostics have been defaulted. This complaint was from 3/20/12. It was submitted to the BBB for review. I got no response from the company until the BBB passed along a message(3/4/14) stating Monro corporate office offered me a price match and since I did not reply they did nothing else.Monro has never contacted me and I refuse to except this. I have also noticed my review of this business has been removed from several sites. They are lairs and will steal you blind.

Monro Muffler Brake rip off

This place and other locations are a rip off... after the trouble i had with them yesterday trying to charge me $1300.00 for a job that cost $500.00 at other places (manikin) and then refusing to except there own coupons.. ( well i decided to do a little more investigating) i called up 2 different Monro mufflers and asked them how much it would cost to replace a muffler and a tail pipe with the cost of labor included. Both locations gave me a ruff estimate of $377.00 to the dot well im like same place different locations both $377.00 so then i called two more Monro Mufflers and asked them the same question only this time i informed them that i had a 30% off a muffler job coupon...so after the guy acts like he is calculating things up yada yada Now get this they both say from both locations... wow that's a pretty good deal man with that coupon.. with the 30% off your total will ruffly be about $377.00... wtf i figured yesterday after dealing with the fricking crook Greg from Monro Muffler 5501 Allentown blvd shop 162 Harrisburg pa [protected] that's( GREG) that i might just be dealing with a bad dude trying to get over... but it seems to be general practice with this company to rip off its costumers when u go to there web page the 1st thing you see is(in big print) the company you can trust...If its one thing i have learned is trust worthy people don't go around broadcasting how trustworthy they are... if i met some one and they had to repeatedly tell me how much of a good person they are i would stand clear from them just as well as this company ..

Monro Muffler Brake sloppy workmanship

I recently took my Audi A3 to my local Monro service garage to have brake pads replaced. Upon inspection of my vehicle, the Monro manager indicated my CV boots were torn and needed to be replaced. This was confirmed earlier by my Audi service people. He also advised replacing front axles because they may have been compromised by the intrusion of dirt and pollutants. I confirmed this possibility while investigating on line. I paid to have all of this work performed in good faith.

Now the bad stuff...First I was told the wrong axle had been delivered by the supplier...had to do without our only car for 2 days and the weekend until they could complete work. When I picked up car, and drove home (3 miles) and took my wife to work next morning, I noticed a tapping and scraping sound from the front end. Immediately returned car to Monro to inspect problem. They indicated a bolt in the axle assembly had loosened and had been hitting the tranny case and punctured a hole through which transmission fluid had escaped, causing damage to the tranny. NOW MY CAR IS WITH MY AUDI DEALER LOOKING AT A TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WHICH WILL TAKE A MONTH TO LOCATE AND INSTALL! Because a careless technician did not pay attention to details.

Monro Muffler Brake bad customer service

Yesterday I took my vehicle to Monroe Muffler to have it looked at. I had a terrible vibration in the front and shaking all over the road. They advised me that I needed to replace both the front inner and outer tie rod ends and that it could possibly break if I did not do it right away. Fortunatly for me I knew that their price estimate was way to high because I had taken it to Sears a couple weeks before and was given a estimate that was less than half the price for the same work. The reason I went for a second opinion is because I had a friend take a look at it and he had advised me that he did not believe the tie rods were the issue after I had been to sears. Any how I had my friend do the work that same day and when he went to replace the tie rods he noticed they were not bad at all however we already had it apart and had the parts so we went ahead and finished the job. After a test drive it was just as bad. So he investigated a little farther and could clearly see that there is a u joint that is about to fall right out of the truck. Good work Monro Muffler diagnosing a problem without thouroghly looking into the problem. I specifically told them that it was worse in 4 wheel drive. So had I agreed to pay the $1427.95 for the work they had advised me to have done. I still would not have been able to drive my truck. Please get a 2nd opinion before allowing Monro Muffler to do any work on your vehicles.

Monro Muffler Brake still getting robbed heavily $ $till a broke mechanic

This job is still making me suffer despite the fact I graduated an a student from m.T. T.I. July 2010 and I love being a mechanic. Because this is what was taught as a little kid from my family members who are fellow mechanics. This is my element so I should be breezing through with no problem. But thats not the case management still robbing the # out of me. My pay $till at $7.40 per hr. I still dont get a lunchbreak, but its automaticly tooken out of my paycheck. Plus they still keep trying to play us tech. S against each other. They pass out jobs to who they feel isn 't complaining & complies to being robbed. Then inturn they take home nice paychecks. As for me i'm the lowest paid in the shop. And it hurts me to see everyone else making good money. Knowing I do top of the line work. Anyway I don't get mad at other tech. S. Because I know management is behind evrything as is the corp. Also they still want me to live at work. Like I don t have priorities at home. Not to mention they know it ain't easy to find employment. Thats why they do what they do. But there's an old saying {ever dog has it's day}. Listen, the same # is going on since I started. But it's a hell of alot worst. Who-ever is reading this. It's all true! If your employed with this company. Let's stand the f* up & fight back! You know the name contact me. I know the economy is terrible right now. But that's no excuse to be discrimminating, under paying, racism, treating employees like #, this black balling ain't going to last for to much longer. So please if anyone feels the same way I do. Contact j da mecanic stop being quiet about #. We are not robbots, we are human beings, let's stand the f* up & fight for our f*ing blood, sweat, & tears do not be affraid reply for justice. I have a family & bills to pay, do you.

You really should find work at another shop. My boyfriend worked there for a month. Five years experience, PA state emissions and inspections liscence and only got paid 9/hr. You have some schooling so you should try and work for a dealership. They start out making at least 12/hr and also pay flat rate. He found a job with a dealership and makes what he made in a month there in two weeks. Monroe charges more than a dealership does for labor on cars. Ford charges 80-82/hr while monroe charges 105/hr.

Monro Muffler Brake unqualified employees

I went to Monro to get new tires and an alignment. They did not replace the valve stems that are part of the one price package deal with the new tires, and of course during the installation of the tires, the technician broke a valve stem. The alignment was totally off, as I realized driving onto the interstate right after. My car was basically jumping out of my hands. I went back to the Monro shop and they said that their alignment heads were going bad. They provided a service knowing that they machine was faulty. The alignment still was not good after the second time going there. The next day my tire was flat due to the broken valve stem. I had to fight with them to get them to replace the valve stems they were supposed to provide during the first visit. They still only replaced one valve stem. They would not give me a credit for the faulty work or the alignment. The ordeal was not solved even after contacting the customer service, and corporate headquarters. I turned to a dispute with the credit card company and it took so long that it was passed the allowed days to file. Now, justice still has not been served and Monro made money by jeopardizing lives and hiring unqualified employees. This is a horrible company. I understand people make mistakes but if a company is not willing to fix their mistakes and compensate for them, then what merit do they have in the service they provide? Anyone associated with that company should be ashamed of themselves and have trouble sleeping at night.

Monro Muffler Brake scammed, ripped off

I agree with all of these complaints. I took my truck in for an oil change at Monroe Muffler in South Attleboro Mass next to BJ's. The Manager (Mike Donnelly) told me that I needed back brakes. I said really, I just replaced then 20, 000 miles ago. So, I decided to get them replaced. He is the Suppossed Professional. I told him I wanted the old brakes back so I could show my mechanic. My mechanic was on vacation. I asked him before any work was done how much was it going to cost. He quoted a price. When I received the bill it was way over the price quoted. There was actually a fee on there he never mentioned. A $15.00 shop fee. Really! I was told that was for rags and then I asked why he never stated the shop fee. He replied well it is posted in the shop. WHAT AN ###! NEVER AGAIN WILL I USE THESE RIP OFF, [censored] BAG, ###S CON MAN COMPANY. I showed the old brakes to my mechanic and he stated I could of gotten another 25, 000 miles on them. The mechanic cracked 1 of the old brakes with a hammer. It is clear as day it was cracked with a hammer. WOW! I also got an oil change there. A week later the oil filter was leaking oil. The [censored] Mechanic did not tighten the oil filter enough. I had to pay my mechanic to tighten it properly and clean up the excess oil. IF YOU WANT TO GET RIPPED OFF - GO TO MONROE. IF YOU DON'T TRY TO FIND A HONEST MECHANIC! I found out later the manager (Mike Donnelly) was promoted to another Monroe. WOW! RIPPED OFF ENOUGH PEOPLE AND THEN TIME TO RUN! MONROE MUFFLER SUCKS!

Monro Muffler Brake rip off

I recently received a coupon for an oil change at Monro Muffler Brake. I went there for the 18.99 Oil Change in Waterloo, NY. My van had no problems when I dropped it off. The first time I used the brakes after leaving the shop the brake pedal went to the floor. I pulled over and discovered a rear brake line was leaking. I immediately took it back to the shop. They looked at it and determined that the part had coincidentally broke after I drove it away. Even though there was a pool of brake fluid where the mechanic parked the van. I disagree, the brake line broke because once they get your car in they go through it yanking and pulling on things trying to find things to fix and if they break something they don't feel they're responsible. I contacted Monro and file a complaint through there website and have not received a reply. They obviously don't care. If you receive a coupon from them throw it away. My $18.99 coupon ended up costing me over $100.00

Monro Muffler Brake disproportionate charge

Monro charged me a rate for fixing my brake that was disproportionately higher than its competitors and other local repair shops for fixing my brakes and rotors.

When I complained on their website, the customer rep, Mr. Christopher Johnson, offered to resolve the issue using their price match policy, for which I was no longer eligible (given the timing of my discovery) and noted to him. Nevertheless, I complied with his instructions, after his encouragement. Subsequently, he agreed to refund me the $100 excess charge, however it was in store credit, which was unacceptable to as a result of my sense of mistrust for the company and my lack of interest in returning to the company for any further care of my car.

I was reasonably questioning the integrity of the company and their business practices as I had experienced them as having taken advantage of me. Mr. Johnson insisted on a store credit refund so I asked to be directed to his supervisor, Mr. Terry Haschmann, the director of customer service who provided the worst model of customer service I have ever experienced. I am truly appalled that he holds such a position, given my previous experiences in the retail and hospitality industries. Mr. Haschmann lacked basic skills of demonstrating courtesy or empathy and cannot imagine that the CEO or board of directors are aware of the way he is representing the company. He truly seemed to require a basic training in customer service.

I am interested in contacting either the CEO, Mr. Robert Gross or the V.P. to report my experiences with their company and request my refund back in the cash value that I paid to them, given that the excessive charge was an error on the institution's part and not mine. My loyalty to the company has quickly disappeared and has been replaced by a strong distaste for the company. I have not only stopped providing them with my business, I have also been discouraging all my family, friend, colleagues and acquaintances to avoid doing business with them, especially females, because they fail to fulfill their mission of providing fair, service that is of optimal quality. Even worse, the do not maintain their doctine of "reasonable pricing", or excellent customer service.

Please let me know if you can provide me with the contact information for the V.P or CEO of the company as I do not intend to relent on this issue due to my worry that they will continue to behave in such a manner and continue to take advantage of disempowered consumers.

Monro Muffler Brake bad employee treatment

I was in shop 21 in bradford Pennsylvania a few days ago. I overheard the manager and technicians talking about their work schedule and the company. they were forced to get rid of their third tech and they are working 8 day stretches, and the store manager is working 7 days a week from 7-7. This is not legal and will not be tolerated. I am writing on their behalf because they were saying if they spoke up they would be fired. they have no family life, and the store manager has a heart condition and has missed his last 3 appts due to not having a day off. If they get sick, there is nobody to cover, so the other tech has to work the entire day. they were told by the market manager mark penipento they could not hire anyone else. forcing the store manager to not get days off and the techs one day off a week. They are getting wore out. I felt so bad for these guys, and thats why i am speaking up. Something has to be done here. they are getting no breaks, as the cars keep coming to make numbers and there is not enough personnel. the one tech is 60, and the other has diabetes and they cannot get a break? But monro takes it out of their pay? They are open 7 days a week and running two techs and want NO OVERTIME WHATSOEVER! i already have a call into the labor board and i will take it even further if need be. No employees should be treated this way.

Monro Muffler Brake careless and dishonest service

Throughout the past few years of taking my vehicles to Monro, I have experienced service which can only be described as going downhill, fast. I will recount my most recent experiences.

6 months ago - I took my 2002 Ford Focus in for an inspection. They said the vehicle was in great condition but would not pass inspection because they needed to replace a brake line that had been rubbing on the front wheel. I thought to myself, "How does the brake line even have enough slack to reach the wheel?" I foolishly agreed to have it replaced. $180 later I had my car back with a new inspection sticker. Once home, I looked at where the brake line is vs. the wheel. There is no way that what they told me was true. The lines aren't long enough to reach the wheel, even if they came loose from where they are attached.

1 month ago - my 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix needed an oil change. I usually do oil changes myself, but since it was the middle of winter, I took it in. The service was quite speedy, but due to my prior experiences, I checked the oil level for accuracy (back at home... I should have checked it in their parking lot!). The oil level was about an inch above the "max" line. Not wanting to drive 20 min back to Monro, I drove up on my ramps and drained 1.5 qts of oil. Very careless Monro.

2 weeks ago - again, 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. I found a coupon online for a free flat repair at Monro. Thinking that it would be difficult for them to mess up a flat, I took in my tire that had a slow leak . Got my tire back and checked my air pressure the next day. Whoops, it's down to 24 psi. I realize I could have gotten another flat on my way home, but how likely is that.

1 week ago - my girlfriend's 2001 Kia Rio. She brought it in for a brake check since every so often her rear right wheel would make a clunk when she applied the brakes. They didn't find anything wrong with the brakes but wanted to replace the flex pipe since it was "falling off the manifold" (their words). She said no thanks and took the car home. Today her car is at a different mechanic who is replacing the back brakes which have locked up since the visit at Monro. He said there is nothing wrong with the flex pipe and was surprised that Monro didn't see a problem with her brakes.

All in all, Monro was my first choice for automotive repair but I will be taking my money elsewhere from now on. I wanted to give them a second, even third chance after my most recent experiences but they have struck out. Be wary and ask lots of questions if you decide to go there. Thanks for reading my rant!

Crooks ripped me off and they almost burnt my car engine. On Feb 7th, I stopped at Monro Auto Service in Binghampton as my Subaru was leaking oil underneath and smoking somewhat. They said I needed a new oil pan and gaskets. They kept the car over night as they did not have the parts.
I noticed that when they delivered the car next day, it was still smoking but they said it was the oil residue from the day before that was burning off. I asked - are you sure? They said yes and charged me $417.00. I got back on I-81 headed south for about 30 minutes and stopped at a rest area. The car was leaking oil just like if they had never fixed it with hardly any oil left in the pan. I had to wait till next day and took the car straight to a Subaru dealer where they immediately identified the cause which was a leaking oil pressure switch and replaced it. Back on the road and it never leaked again. Shame on you Monro. Real crooks.

Monro Muffler Brake overcharging & dishonesty

I took my car into Monro Muffler/Brake & Service in Tallmadge, Ohio because I was having trouble with my brakes. They told me my rear brakes were bad (that part was true) and that my anti-lock brake system was bad. The total estimate for the brakes was $2100. They also said my coolant was leaking into the engine, contaminating the oil and the cost of fixing this would be another $900. My boyfriend said there was no way...take the car across the street to the dealer. So I did, and guess what? There was nothing wrong with the anit-lock brake system. It cost me $320 to fix the rear brakes. And the dealer only charged $385 to fix the problem with the coolant leaking. There's a huge difference between Monro's charge of $3000 and the dealer's charge of $705. DON'T GO TO MONRO UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE SOLD UNNECCESSARY PARTS AND OVERCHARGED FOR THE WORK YOU DO NEED!

Monro Muffler Brake rude racist behavior

The check engine light of my car came on while driving towards Niagara Falls. So to ensure that it is not risky to drive the car, I went to the closest Monroe Muffler. I told him that I am a regular customer of Monro Muffler at the branch closer to my house and he could check the details. He refused to service my car and said that you would have to pay me $95 for me to connect my 5000$ machine to your car. Then when I said that it does not take that much to even change oil in my car. All I wanted to know is the error code so I could decide upon driving the car back home. He then went on to ask me what my profession is and that then he mumbled something and then said " You know what.. its my shop .. I don't need to talk to you guys" and went into the repair shop leaving us stranded. I swore never to enter any other Monro Muffler even if I had to throw my car into junk !

I don't care about the fee not being outrageous. I got the error code from Advanced Auto Parts for no cost. Most of the car shops in my area are ready to do it for no cost. However, there was no reason to ask what I do for a living? Was he going to check my car only if I was the Mayor of Buffalo or something?
Well it was just the manner in which someone treats you. I could get a machine to check code for $30 from Advanced Auto Parts. No way the cost is justified just to scan the code.

I agree with you, when you enter these parts of NY is like you are now in another dimension . Do not ever use the services of businesses where their conduct is inappropriate . If you feel something is weird, 99% of the time you are right . There are plenty of businesses that want to provide services to everybody with courtesy and professionalism. Business and people like the ones you encountered are overall in our state dinosaurs about to be extinct and forgotten .

Monro Muffler Brake complaining about the manager - al cappon - norwalk, oh shop

Below is the context of the letter that i've mailed to monro's corporate office;

To whom it may concern;

Ideally, i’d like to see this letter land on the company president’s desk but I understand that i’m a customer and that he is probably too busy to handle every complaint that comes through the corporate office. (after reading other complaints on this website, I do now believe that the company president will feel too busy to deal with me)

I’ve sat on this situation for a week because I didn’t want to write this letter with pure adrenaline because when I left your norwalk, ohio store, I was piping mad – but with good reason. Please read on.

Tuesday, november 23, 2010 – I had an appointment to get a full service oil change done at the norwalk, ohio store managed by al cappon because no body can beat the price of the oil change and i’ll give you that, the deal is wonderful. During the tire rotation portion of the oil change, they found a bulge in one of my tires in which I sincerely thanked them for finding because I was getting ready to hit the road for the thanksgiving holiday.

Upon getting this bad news, I initially called my wife for the two of us to discuss this issue because that’s what married couples do. I returned to the store to ask al for the most cost effective / economical tire, he quoted me a price of $224 … plus installation and disposal of course so it would have been over $300 by the time it was all said and done. I again asked if there was anything better he could do, he could not. So again, I called my wife because I wasn’t about to drop $300 without first talking it over with her – again, it’s what married couples do. Al seemed agitated that I wasn’t giving him an answer right away. My wife and I decided that we’re going to shop around, and that surely we would be able to find a better deal. I told him that if he couldn’t help me out with a cheaper tire, than I was going to take my business elsewhere and that I wanted the bad tire put back on my car. Up until this moment, things were civil.

Again, he seemed agitated that I brought my wife into part of the decision making process. He entered the shop from the lobby, swinging the door open and fraling his arms around – tells his mechanics to put the wheel back on and said something about me, but I didn’t make it out. Upon coming back to the counter, he was red faced and still mouthing off. At which I told him that after this transaction to remove me from his computer system because I wouldn’t be back and there was no reason to keep my record (which of course, I know there are reasons for marketing & auditing purposes). He said something else; that I don’t quite recall to which I replied calling him a smart # and that this wasn’t the first time that i’ve had an issue with him but it would be the last. At that point, he was even brighter red, finger pointing, snarling, spit coming out of his mouth, calling on tom (his assistant) to handle me because he couldn’t anymore, telling me to get the f*&^ out of his store and that they would call me back in when the bill was ready. To which I did, which was fine. I made sure I kept eye contact with him the whole time I was standing outside while he was making some kind of small talk with another customer in the lobby, probably about me, which was fine. Words don’t hurt me, they just piss me off. I paid, he handed me my change, I turned to leave – he told me that I needed to sign my receipt, to which I scribbled something across the name spot and I left. I’m generally a very non-confrontational person and all I said that later on could be construed to being out of line was me calling him a smart #, but if he can’t handle that, he has no business being a manager of a shop and dealing with customers.

Upon getting home, I filled my wife in about what had just happened and showed her the bulge in tire. She and I both agreed that it needed attention, but not from monro, not the way we’ve been treated. So I called around to a few places and found very gently used tires (same amount of tread wear to what I already had on the car) at maxi tire for $85 – it is a bridgestone compared to my other tires being firestones. Got it installed, went on my trip.

Al could have kept me as a customer with a little more effort and better attitude, yet, now i’ll take my car up the road for oil changes and pay twice as much as monro charges but service and attitude outweigh cost every day. Read the book, "customer satisfaction is worthless, customer loyalty is priceless" by jeffrey gittomer and you'll see where i'm coming from.

I don’t normally write these kinds of letters of complaint, I guess mainly because I am a business manager myself and I know how it feels to get a letter either directed at me or to me about one of my employees. But like I said, I waited a week to type this letter and it wasn’t the first time that i’ve had an issue with al cappon, which makes me wonder – how many other people have had issues with this man? I’d be willing to bet that this isn’t the first time you’ve heard something about mr. Al cappon in a negative manner. Do you have video surveillance in the stores? With sound? If so, I request that you watch the tape from 11/23/2010 – you won’t be impressed.

Let me state that tom (who showed me the bulge in the tire) was wonderful as was andy (who did the oil change).

I will completely leave it up to your discretion whether or not you want to contact me to follow up, either at the address above or by email at *@yahoo.com or by phone at *-*-*. But I do request that I do not hear from al, as nothing he can say will change my opinion of him.

Monro Muffler Brake wrongful termination

Monro Muffler Brake is a fire happy company. I have been with them for almost three months. The first mounth was training and then placed into a failing store as manager.
Now, this store has been on a decline for about a year but just last week the zone manager (in a screaming rage) told me it was all my fault! This was just after he fired the market manager (a 16 year employee). He was swearing, constantly using the "F" word and so on.
Today (While on a Dr.s leave) the new market manager fired me!
In the three months I've been there I know of Three managers and two assitant mangers fired by this zone manager. A foul mouthed, arragant, conceited idiot.
I have over 40 years in the automotive service business and know you can not turn a destroyed store around in 6 weeks.
Perspective auto perfessionals: Stay clear of Monro!

Very unhappy with customer service and repair. Not happy at all. My elderly Mother brought in her car for an inspection and oil change to Stone Rd Monro muffler. After $600 later the manager said it was ready to be picked up. Thinking It was readyand inspected, I went to pick up the car for my mother. I drove off I started to drive away and noticed the engine light was on and no inspection sticker. Went back in and spoke with manager and asked why is there no inspection sticker he said he had told us? This was never even mentioned to me prior to me picking up the vehicle. He said he would once again need it another day to find out why the engine light was on. VERY VERY UNHAPPY. I would never ever bring a car to a Monro Muffler again. Please do not use Monro Muffler. I totally think my mother was ripped off because of her age.

Monro Muffler Brake beware

I took my car into monro for an oil change and by the time I drove home (5 minutes) I had no brake fluid in my car. I took it back in to have it looked at and they refused to take responsibility for the damage. They say that is just a coincidence that the brake line just happened to go as I was driving off of their property. They are charging me another $75 to fix what they broke. I have since looked online and found numerous other complaints about the same behavior. One story is exactly the same as mine. I argued with the man at the shop for half an hour to no avail. My wife then called the customer service number and was also treated very rudely. These people can not be allowed to get away with this.

I believe that either they are very careless or that the company is actually having their employees break things after luring customers in with a cheap oil change. It turns out that they have had almost 700 complaints filed against them with the BBB in the last 36 months!

Monro Muffler Brake it took me an hour and 15 minutes in order to get a ten minute oil change

I checked the company opening hours and it indicates 7:30. One guy shows up and doesn't begin work on a simple oil change for Customer #1 until 8:10, Customer #2 & customer #3 (myself)waiting. Meanwhile the one other lazy employee bothers to show up around 8:25 and the manager shows up around 8:35.Bottom line - it took me an hour and 15 minutes in order to get a ten minute oil change.
