Microsoft unauthroized charges on my credit card

I checked my credit card bill and saw a charge from Microsoft billing bill.ms.net for 39.99 that I did not authorize. I used my credit card for a one time purchase of points for my boyfriend and apparently they took it upon themselves to charge me for something I didnt buy. I googled it and apparently I am not the only one with this issue. I will have to take care of this on Tuesday because of memorial day but I wanted to file a complaint so no one else would have to deal with this. I will no longer be purchasing anything with my credit card from them and most likely wont buy anything at all in the near future

Microsoft beware! console banned on xbox live

beware when you purchase a used xbox 360 on ebay or anywhere else because it is most likely being sold because its original owner hacked the console so that it would play burnt games, i learnt my lesson just this pass week, i bought my kids a 360 for christmas and we never had the live points so my kids never attempt to play online at xbox live but i just purchased them some gold points to play online and when we tried to connect and sign up on the website i recieved a message on the console that said that the console was banned for what i suspect is something that the previous owner had done to the console. i contacted microsoft via email and recieved and automated message back stating that if my kids console has a certain number or code on the screen then that means the console is banned for life from connecting to xbox live because the system was illegally modified. i knew nothing about the system being "hacked" and yet my kids can not play online because of the previous owners wrong doing. the only way to can tell if a xbox 360 is not legal is trying to connect to xbox live. so buyers beware and spread the word around

traumahawk-
How would one know if there were no stickers on it if they had no prior knowledge of an Xbox? If the stickers were on fine, that would give someone a clue, but if they didn't know that it came with the stickers...they would be none the wiser. Not everybody knows about consoles being modifed as you assume. That's why the poster has used this site, to tell those of us (you obviously excluded) that don't really have prior knowledge of these gadgets that this is a problem. So to answer your question about not knowing about it...I would hazard a guess that most of us don't.

I hope this mother used paypal as well.

how did you NOT know about that? that is why you only buy an xbox from an authorized resale store/site. before you plug it in to xbl you can check the "DO NOT REMOVE THIS STICKER- VOID IF REMOVED" stickers that are on the system over the screws. If they are removed the system has been tampered with. you're the idiot that bought a system from a bad dealer or some shmuk on ebay dont try to pin it on anyone else but yourself. you should have asked if it was modded before you bought it. (and if they said no, and it was, you contact paypal and get your money back for a bad sale on ebay, you DO use paypal, right?)

Microsoft xbox makes it difficult to block purchases on credit card

I have been allowing the monthly fee for XBox live to be debited from my credit card each month for convenience. Charges other than the monthly fee started showing up on my card, primarily because my son didn't understand what he was doing and purchased points online. I called Xbox and had them to put a hold on my card for any purchases outside the monthly fee. My son got a gift card so he could purchase the points online, however he couldn't use the point card because there was a block. I called Xbox and asked them to take the block off temporarily so that he could use the point card. Here is what gets crazy, if I take the block off for this one transaction I can't put the block back on which again now my card is susceptible to random charges. Can someone please explain how such a sophisticated company like Microsoft has not developed a way to either make the point card transaction and the credit card transaction 2 separate transactions or why can't a block be put back on. It's another way for them to get revenue and it is definately not to the consumers benefit.

My 15 yr old had been doing the same thing with his father's debit card. X box is in my household but he's memorized the card no. From his father's. The suggestions made from the pd since it wasn't me he stole from...run it over (the xbox). From my mother. ...pawn it. Lol. I think my mother's idea is best. But x box should make that a part of parental control. Blocking purchases.

So after XBox blocked your account...Were you still about to play with a Silver account? Were you still able to reload points with a game card? or were they all blocked...I am with you, how can a company like Microsoft not be able to manage something as small as credit card charges and game card charges...maybe Bill Gates needs to go undercover to find out what is really going on with his company...

Microsoft inappropriate ban and bad customer service

I am soooo frustrated with x box live. My son's account was permanently banned without warning or explanation for account theft, phishing or solicitation-none of which is true! They will not explain this ban, send you to forums to post a complaint which is then not answered. Repeated requests for explanation are stonewalled and promised return phone calls do not happen. Then we saw my son's tag online being used by someone else! I have been told that they don't ban without reason, and don't make mistakes, but clearly that cannot be true.
They claim that they do not have any contact with their live enforcement branch AND that the live enforcement team has no phones! REALLY? This seems a scam. What other company can take the money you have spent on the service and points and just confiscate them without explanation or proof? The moderators are loose cannons and judging by the number of complaints all over the internet, this is an ongoing problem. PLEASE COMPLAIN to your better business bureau and to microsoft and anywhere else you can, so we can get them to be more accountable. I believe they think they are too big to have to respond appropriately and they are dealing with mostly young people, and also take advantage of that. But NO COMPANY should be able to treat it's customers this way without feeling the wrath of consumers! LET"S BAN BAD X BOX LIVE BANS TOGETHER!

The problem is and this also happen to my son's Xbox line account he's been banned for cheating, unauthorized changes to his avatar? and other things that require a serious knowledge of hacking the MS system. None of which he did! I get email that he banned until 12/31/9999. I called Xbox line they weren't rude but not terrible helpful. You have go to this mysterious enforcement team and send a message (which they are supposed to return with answer in 48 hours, have done it yet) Allegedly my son was suppose of got warning over Xbox line. He didn't. If he did something wrong why don't they contact the person who's paying for all this, namely me! I will follow up with complaining the BBB and the Massachusetts Attorney Generals Office there is not die process here. This also interferes with the Netflix account for viewing movies via the xbox, which I also pay for. If the keep cutting off people for these reasons without any recourse no one will be on Xbox Live anyway.

Well, from all the comments that dont agree with you, it shows who and what kind of people they are, ... the same, .. I have been online in xbox for the past few months, and I, being 40 years old, even have to change from room to room every other agme due to hearing all the so called (people) say the n word and other racial slurs that make them feel more like men in which they are not.
Its ashame the we buy machines that they make, and buy all the extras for the GREAT experience, and pay for service for internet with our money, and then pay for xbox live sevice to ( enjoy all these wonderful things they sell us) and then have to try to find a way to really enjoy them without wishing we could just take it all back, get a refund from ALL involved- xbox, internet, best buy, time card companies, and DTE.
If we are going to be able to stop this issue, before it breaks out into civil war again, which it will one way or another, then the FBI needs to take steps to stop the fools from being fools and let us adults and our children enjoy what we pay for without being transformed into trash, and haters of all from what we are forced to hear.
It doesnt matter what setting they have or you can choose from.
If so, ... is xbox trying to say its ok to be racist, but you only need to be on the racist channel? This would only tell me that xbox is also racist to allow this to go on and to be possible. ?
HEY? MAYBE THATS IT?

My console was banned yesterday. I did not modify or repair my xbox. I did not cheat it any way shape or form. They will not talk to me about it. They refer me to the fourms. After I tried to post on the fourms my post was deleted, because you cannot talk about banned console. I am an honest person, and I would like to know why console has been banned.

yesterday i got banned from xbox live for 2 weeks. i checked my email to see why and it was because of me having my name as " general yankee pwnyurass ". i am still amazed at how xbox can find this offensive. mabe it's because ### is a swear word in america, but it's not in england. i'm going to ring xbox and demand my account to be unsuspended and i'm going to ask for a free month's xbox live.

Microsoft console banned

My son was console banned from Xbox live yesterday without any notice or any reason when we called to ask what happened no specifics were given to us nor do they have too? He has had Xbox for years and very much enjoys playing online. I would like the specifics as to why my son was banned. As a parent that is my right and when microsoft allows minors to sign up for the live service without my consent verified? I feel the company is not very responsible to its minor consumers. They have no right to take his rights or mine away when they are not very responsible in the begining and expect these kids to read all those pages of terms and conditions which I printed up last night. They just want to play your games and with their friends. As a parent I feel I should have been notified if my child was in violation of these so, I could make a decision as to what? if any? violations were happening? What I should do to fix. I don't know because microsoft appearantly doesn't have to give you any answers or specifics? They can pick and choose how and who can stay on their network and of course keep their money too! Minors are called this because they need to be taught and guided not just punished and banned without any notice or explaination. Even our great legal system has to abid by this but, not microsoft? Apearently, Microsoft makes my parenting decisions for me. The way I see it you are not teaching these kids that when they get banned. They can go buy another console and pay you more money and get right back on the system. Wow! That's not really a bad system for you? Sounds like a really good system for your company? Where or what is the lesson being taught? After reading how to file complaints with your company it sounds like I could make any complaint about anyone if I wanted to get rid of a player if I didn't like them? I can do it right after each game I played? You don't think this is happening? If my child was swearing and that was the reason? Don't know though? The whole system should be shut down cause that's what the kids are all doing online. When you promote games like Call of Duty don't expect kids to say "Please" and "Thank you!" Maybe you should revisit complaints and violations and give these kids some sort of notice after a game if in violation so, they can learn proper behavior or have a chance to defend themselves! A very concerned parent!

Generally they ban people for explicit things, racism, excessive swearing or threats. Or if the console has been modded/they are cheating.

Take your son's gamertag (ask him, he'll know what it is) and go to the X-Box Live forums on xbox.com and ask them there. They have a forum dedicated to people asking about bannings and stuff - if you are lucky they will tell you the reason. Be warned though: it could be something you didn't know and will not be proud of it. This kind of thing happens a lot and Little Jimmy is always defended right down to the bitter end.

Prime example is one that made the rounds a couple of months prior - a very angry mother got on the Live forums demanding to know why her son was banned from using Live. The moderator searched the boy's gamertag and found the reason - he had been showing himself naked via the camera on UNO. A big no-no and the woman promptly stopped on the forums.

Microsoft UK Lotto
If you fell for this scam, please shoot yourself now
Below is yet another example of an truly ludicrous and unbelievably phony lottery, this one using the name "Microsoft UK Lotto". This is really one of the most pathetic scams attempts we've ever seen. If you fell for this scam, we suggest you lock yourself in the basement and have people slide food under the door. Don't ever go outside again. It is too dangerous for you. Really.

There are many signs that this is a fraud, not the least of which is that Microsoft never has and never will sponsor a lottery, of any kind. Bill Gates has made that pretty clear. And, by the way, Microsoft is not, does not, and will not ever send you to DisneyWorld. They don't "test the internet", nor sponsor email lotteries to "promote use of the internet".

In addition to the usual clues, notice the gibberish writing, excessive/incorrect use of CAPITAL letters, lack of decent punctuation. The sentences don't even make sense. Hardly what a professional (i.e., real) lottery would do. Note the other clues to an obvious fraud that we have highlighted in the letter; keep confidential, selected by a random computer lottery of email addresses, use of free email accounts, etc.

Here is a typical scam lottery winning notification.

Microsoft multiple charges

I purchased the Microsoft Office 2007 Suite for what I thought was the advertised price of $59.95 plus $13 for the back up disc. DRI charged my card 3x for one purchase. I wound up paying triple the amount advertised...don't purchase from this company. You can go to college bookstores and find the same discount...don't give these guys your credit card information because they will charge you over and over again.

I was charged twice as well! I am in the process of trying to get the second charge reversed. They were completely different amounts and the charges were different days. I am VERY upset.

Microsoft fraudulent activity

We just had an unauthorized charge to our checking account from MICROSOFT *BIBILL.MST WAUS for $ 19.99. Realized that the only business with Microsoft was when we purchased our Yearly Membership for XBOX LIVE at the beginning of the month for $ 49.99 and now this... In reading the other complaints it was helpful for us to determine that the charges were in fact from XBOX LIVE. It's unfortunate that a company with so much revenue get's a bad name for activities like this. BEWARE! BILL GATES KNOWS SOMETHING US LITTLE PEOPLE DON'T LOL! I SHOULDN'T OF LET MY BROTHER IN LAW TALK OUR SON IN TO XBOX ELITE SANTA CLAUSE ALREADY HAD THE PS3 AND HE HAD TO RETURN IT FOR THE XBOX THE DAY OF SCHEDULED DELIVERY :-)

GOOD LUCK

my sons account was hacked in to. he was actually locked out of his own account. his password stolen. over 600 dollars was downloaded from my credit card. xbox customer service refused to refund my money even though their own people stated that because i don't have a hard drive it would have been impossible for my son to download all these games. they also refuse to send me a letter stating the outcome of their so called investigation. so now i have to hire a lawyer. how can i trust xbox again. now my son can no longer use his xbox because microsoft does not back up their customers

Microsoft microsoft store complaint

Four days ago I attempted to order Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade - (Download), for $219.99 at the microsoft store web site. I also opted to have a DVD copy shipped for an additional $14.95. Upon clicking to submit the order, the instructions stated I would receive an email containing the link to download the product.

I waited hours and hours and then for a whole day and did not receive any emails or confirmation. I logged back on to the microsoft store web site, and was able to check the order status which was still shown as "Pending".

About 34 hours after placing the order, I called their contact number and spoke to a customer service representative. They told me that sometimes orders get randomly chosen for review, and in those cases I should receive an email from microsoft 24 to 48 hours after placing the order. I told them that in such cases where they are choosing to delay processing an order for a customer, they should at least minimally send an immediate email to let the customer know what is going on. They made no such effort and did not integrate that sort of consideration for the customer. I was assured by their customer rep that I would be emailed or see a status update on the order within the 48 hours after I had placed the order. The customer service rep gave me a reference number to copy down.

The 48 hours from the time of order passed and I received no email whatsoever from microsoft, and no status update of the order on their website (still "Pending"). After a few hours more, I called the microsoft store contact number again and spoke to a representative. They were apologetic but could not provide me with any useful information. They said the order was still 'being reviewed' and they offered to cancel the order if I preferred. I reminded them that the sole purpose of online product (Download) ordering by customers is to get the product quickly, or have reasonable communications etiquette with regards to the customer. I told them that treatment of customers in this way, no communicating anything at all for 48 hours, not giving any order status at all via email/web site for over 48 hours, shows a serious lack of consideration to the customer by microsoft. I asked the customer representative if all the microsoft customers get treated in this way. Again they were apologetic, but could not give me any useful information or updates about the order, at all. At this point I had called them twice, whereas they had made no consideration to to update the customer (myself) during this process for over 48 hours.

Although I expected no credit problems, I called my bank's card services department to see if the order had been attempted and if so were there any problems. They told me there had not been any transaction come through yet, from microsoft or for that amount. Microsoft had not even attempted to transact the order yet, after all this time.

During all this time I had a system I had planned to upgrade and was at a work stoppage due to microsoft's extended and unexplained delay. I did not know whether to just go out and buy the product at a store myself, or just keep waiting - because microsoft did not show consideration enough to inform me or let me know any updated status of the order. Ultimately, I got tired of waiting and went straight out to Office Max and bought myself a copy without any issues at all.

These problems with the microsoft store were in no way credit related from a customer standpoint. I had ordered many items, had plenty of reserve to spend on orders. Microsoft apparently chose to withhold processing of my order without any explanation at all.

After four days, I finally received an automated email from microsoft store, (image attached). It stated that a problem was encountered and my order was not placed, and that if I preferred, I could attempt to place the order again. 'Come now!' - Do they really think I would want to risk going through all this again!? Their email also stated the email address was not monitored. Everyone, is the true current state of Microsoft's attitude toward customer care. They have become so big with their monopoly they have so amassed, and thus their value model reflects no actual concern for any individual customer. That's long gone.

I buy from them because of their monopoly and have no choice. But, if given another choice of an equally suitable product, I would definitely choose the non-microsoft product. They are not listening to customers. They only incorporate features in their product after someone else does it first, and then they take it or buy the company, or both. This type of customer treatment is why I hope the likes of Google and others will continue to be a thorn in microsoft's side, and ultimately I think it should be broken up like the oversized telecom of long ago. Something has to get their attention, because they pay no attention to customers anymore.

Microsoft bad service, cheating customer

Put an online order on Feb 9, 2010 for Dell Adamo Pearl using online coupon. Order confirmation from microsoftstore.com received right away. On Feb 10, 2010, received another email from them said Order has shipped, including a UPS tracking number ( I chosed next day air saver service). My credit card was charged on Feb 10. Feb 12, nothing showed up and then call customer service. Put me on hold for 10 minutes and told me order actually not shipped yet for a couple of reasons they didn't exactly know. What the F**K. Talked to supervisor who can say nothing but apologize. The item was out of order. What is the real reason? Bad management, no committment. How come you've charged your client's cc and then after two days, you just told you customer you don't have the item in stock.

Go to hell. I used buy.com for many years, they never let this kind things happen for once, never. I look forward to the day google kills MS.

don't be cheated, don't waste your time with www.microsoftstore.com

The Microsoftstore.com website makes it next to impossible to buy anything with its security and verification methods. Even worse, through 6 techical support and phone sales calls...neither can their employees and customer service figure it out ! After 3 days of trying to buy a notebook computer for my college daughter, a MSS tech service employee finally told me that Microsoftstore.com is having reload issues. Their tech support and customer service are mostly off-shore /3rd party contractors who walk me through the same fixes that don't work to make the website function and take the order. They show at least 12 attempts to buy this laptop and none work ...noone at MSS.com can decide how to fix their website problems. They have great offers on laptops for students and software but I am beginning to wonder if they really own the inventory and are simply trolling for customers to set up Hotmail accounts... Bad service, bad customer service knowledge, bad software...don't even bother as you'll waste considerable time and better to pay a little more and buy from a merchant who can actually load online systems that function. Haha...a software giant who can't figure out how to make software function.

I ordered games for xbox360 on Black Friday. Star Wars Kinect for $9.99. Microsoft store cancelled the order due to oversell, and still charged me the full amount on my card. When calling, I was assured they did not charge me the extra for the cancelled order...bank account says otherwise. Not good business to oversell, then cancel on customers during the Christmas season. Its 2 weeks later, I am scrambling for the game, and have to pay $40 more for it. Don't purchase through the website. Terrible customer service.

Someone got into my account and is requesting $2900 from those in my contact. Saying I am in the UK and needing money for a tictet to get back to the US. I want this investigated to find out the source. Plus, I need to know what to do immediately. I do not want a identity theft created. Plus, I do not want anyone in my contacts to send money. Please get ahold of me to inform me of the solution to this problem. My cell is: [protected].

The fact that you are using a free account from a third party solution shows that your IT team isn't doing their job, the business team is putting customer information into the ether, and your company as a whole could be liable for any number of federal violations.

I hope that you've let someone in your chain of command know of this screwup, and you should talk to your IT staff about some security awareness training.
